Clue #23 - We Think Persephone = Rachel

From Andy on 5/6:

"I've reverse engineered all of the shockwave files and extracted code from them...and...

There is one thing I have learned that seems important: in the source for the letters section, they reference the red text that is printed "The Hanso Foundation, setting world speed records for subverting authority." with the name "RACHEL." This could mean that we will see the name Rachel pop up sometime in the future, either as Persephone's real name or another hacker of the site. I encourage everyone therefore to keep an eye out for the name Rachel on Lost."

5/8 email from Andy:

"So, while I was waiting for the major May 8th update and obsessively checking the last-modified dates of each of the swf files, I noticed that Joop_2.swf was modified this morning (the file that deals with the letters and whatnot). I took a look at the file and noticed nothing
different, so I downloaded it and looked through the code.

It turns out that the ABC people must have seen your post regarding my info on Rachel, because they've renamed the function in the script so the word Rachel isn't there anymore. Apparently, they didn't want us to know the name yet, and it was important enough to conceal that upon finding that they'd left the name in there and I'd found it/you posted it, they promptly stripped it out.

So, it's not much, but it's an update - and it shows that ABC is watching you."

Everyone needs to give due KUDO'S to my man Andy! It looks like he may have given us a cool sneak peak at what is to come...

Based on the phone messages with Persephone's voice and the voice that reads the red text on the letter, they sound the same. Is there any way to test them, see if they match up?

(Hehe, I know they do that stuff on tv all the time)

So... Why is the Valenzetti Foundation website a hoax?

There's a high level of detail put into it. There seem to be logos hidden in some of the pictures on the site. The logos look like they might be the Hanso Foundation logo or the Valenzetti logo itself. (Oh, and one of the diagrams has alchemical/Rambaldi symbols in it.)

Also, this site leads to a site by a supposed comic book letterer. If you check out the samples of comic books he has, they share several themes with Lost. Also, in one of them, a high school student is wearing a hat that says "Nave India" on it. This of course, seems to be linked to S.K. Nave, who is also connected to the site.

In fact, Nave's site is run by her granddaughter, Rachel Nave. With the recent interest in the name "Rachel", I think this might be important.

Ok where does it say Rachel on the Hanso site? I went back to the letters where "subverting authority" was written but I didn't see the name Rachel anywhere.

Good calls j.

I played the A.I. game back in 2001 and one of the biggest complaints players had was how simple it was to figure out if a site was part of the game or not. You could trace all participating sites back to Dreamworks the same way you can trace the Hanso site and The Widmore site back to ABC. Maybe the folks behind the Lost experience are clever enough not to make everything out there so easily traceable. Until something is flat out confirmmed as a fan site I don't think we should dismiss it as such.

Now heres my question... where does the first mentrion of the Valenzetti Foundation occurr? To my knowledge it doesn't come up in the show.

Blogger Gishtler said...

I think it will pop up. Here's why I think the site is fake though: Watch the Gary Troup interview (clip 3) on the topic further down on the page. They mention a Valenzetti Equation based off the work of a famous mathematician. This makes me think someone saw the name on the map, and decided to make a site without really knowing the whole story. Is it possible that there is a Valenzetti Foundation? Yes. But, due to the evidence, I would have to say someone jumped the gun to try and trick all of us.

Neil -- Valenzetti shows up on the blast door map, bottom-left ("Valenzetti-related research activity"). I don't recall it being used anywhere else so far.

Aloha -- Based on Andy's comments, "Rachel" likely shows up in the code that presents the red lettering, not visible to the casual observer though. For example, maybe the code refers to the "subverting authority" message as RACHEL_MSG1.

I am the Andy that submitted this clue.

Regarding the rachel information, it shows up upon decompiling the shockwave aplication http://www.thehansofoundation.org/swf/extra/Joop_2.swf , which contains all of the data regarding the letter.

Here are the lines of code:
txt = 'The Hanso Foundation, setting world speed records for subverting authority.';
writetoField(rachel, txt, 35, afterrachel);

As you can seee, they refer to the field in which the text is written as "Rachel." It's not something we're meant to see; however I have found it for us.

So far, it's the only thing that's been changing in a timely manner.

White squares to red.
Red squares to "Time is UP"
Words scrawl across screen (some are "attack" "compound" and maybe "deception")
Question mark.
Red Reset blinks.
8:15 blinks on the screen.

If this is a "clue" that should be e-mailed...oops. I can't be bothered right now to e-mail.

I just found something REALLY interesting.

Accoording to the Last-Modified HTTP header sent back upon loading http://www.oceanicairlines.com, it was updated at EXACTLY GMT 22:15 - 10:15 PM GMT...

This means that in a GMT - 2 timezone, it was posted at 8:15 PM, and in a GMT + 10 timezone, it is 8:15 AM tommorow (May 7th).

So, what are in these timezones? Well, GMT+10 is Sydney, Australia! And GMT-2 falls mysteriously in the middle of the Atlantic ocean, with a few islands being it's only occurances.

What I meant is that when the site was updated to show what we see there now - the .gif with the words and the time "8:15" in it - it was exactly 8:15 AM in Sydney.

Simmilarly, it was exactly 8:15 PM in a couple of islands in the middle of The Atlantic Ocean.

A freind of mine told me that a while back he checked the source code on the Geronimo Jackson web site and it included the phrase "Magna Carta". Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but to my knowledge the first official link between Geronimo Jackson and the album title Magna Carta came from the phone line, but that source code is a couple months older than than the phone line. Wouldn't that seem to imply that whoever made the Geronimo Jackson web-site would know something about the game? Taht maybe that site is part of the game.

5/07/2006 12:39:00 AM
Blogger phnord said...

neil: maybe it showed the album name on the cover of the album found on the show in the hatch? I'm not sure.

8:15 IS a time - the first update was posted at 8:15 in Australia, and the second one 8:15 EST. The times were exact; the chances of that being coincidental are practically none.

However, obviously 8:15 also references the subset of the numbers (4,8,15,16,23,42), as well as Oceanic Flight 815 - the plane's flight number.

Another thing to note is that 8 and 15 are the 2nd and 3rd numbers in the set, which implies another number in the set: 23.

First time poster...and I don't know where to put all this! I also apologize if this is old news/debunked etc...I just don't have time to keep up with everything. And someone please tell me if I'm wasting my time!

So, has anyone acknowledged the fact that the "Rachel" in the code could refer to Rachel Nave, granddaughter of S.K. Nave? There's some stuff I read above about M. Sontag @ GPC listing Nave as one of his favorite authors, and some other stuff (in-game or not?) about suspicious circumstances around S.K. Nave's death. I just don't have the brainpower to put it all together...except for this: a knave is another word for a jack. Not very subtle, but interesting.

Something else that I don't know what to do with. In Rachel Nave's amazon list(http://www.amazon.com/gp/richpub/listmania/fullview/1TDA72A9PXIMY/ref=cm_lm_pdp_title_full/104-6985386-8733503), she mentions a tesseract: Four-dimensional hypercube; its vertices are (+/-1, +/-1, +/-1, +/-1). It is a polychoron formed from eight equal cube cells that are perpendicular to each other at their faces. It is the tetraspace analog to the square in planespace and the cube in realmspace. In some literature, the term tesseract refers to the inner projection of a tetracube into realmspace, which looks like a cube within a cube.

Anyway, just wanted to get that all down before I forgot.

Could the pic of Alvar, theorized in some places to possibly be a woman, be S.K. Nave? Related to Jack?
