Clue #34 - Persephone (7) ERI, Compass, Jeep

We've got another (sponsored) website with tons of information. Here's how we found it AND how the general public found it:

1. We noticed a change to the Hugh McIntyre Bio and the Electromagnetic Research Initiative page...We couldn't figure out the password for Hugh, so we started at the ERI page thinking maybe the hacker Persephone would hook us up. (From CHRIS) Make your mouse find the coordinates...

X: 629
Y: 291

Then we clicked on that exact location causing the screen to warp (thanks to another clever hack by Persephone), click the same spot again and it takes you to...www.letyourcompassguideyou.com .

1. Everyone else watched LOST and saw the Hanso Commercial (again) but this time it tells you explicitly to go to www.letyourcompassguideyou.com

The title of this new page is "permissum vestri complector rector vos" which is Latin and roughly translated it is: your permission to surround and guide you...or basically is says...let your compass guide you :)

Anyways, on that site you find a funky compass and feel really stupid after playing with the spinny thing when you realize that there is a link just to the right of the compass that you need to click.

On this parchment/compass drawing there are some small, seemingly out of place numbers printed on it next to 108. "DI9FFTR751". These numbers have also been seen on some Dharma issue materials on the show!

Check it out what you find:

Look around in all these files, there is plenty to see! (HERE IS A ZIP file with most of the important stuff) Why order so many Jeeps?

-Check Peter Thompson's inbox for a string of binary numbers. (From the Index of /usr, click pthompso/, click mail/, click INBOX, Copy and paste the link http://www.adcott.net/binary into your computer's Internet browser and Adcott's Binary Translator will load, Copy the binary code from the same email as the Adcott web address and paste it into the Binary box and hit decode, Voila! The password "THE MOUTH PIECE" appears)

-Keep an eye out for Buddha...he's also telling us the password. (Pssst...it's "the mouthpiece").

-Watch the jeep commercial from Hugh's inbox has a message at the end with the Dharma Logo. It reads ECHO ME UTEP HIT. Rearranged that turns into "The Mouth Piece"

There is lots of juicy info in here, check it out and we'll start a list of significant findings (anyone notice Peter Thompson's signature?)

Also, it's all in French, which I do not speak.

Of course daimlerchrysler.com is a huge website to explore, but I don't even know where to start on it. I went to the Jeep sub-site and then searched for the Jeep Compass, which has the slogan "Let your compass guide you"... which according to the Latin translation I pulled up online is roughly:
permisson: authorization
vestri: you (plural)
complector: embrace
rector: a leader
vos: you (singular)
Huh? Any thoughts on this? I'm don't know Latin grammer, so don't know in what "order" these words should go in English.

I had trouble with the password and finally got it by trying to sign up for the newsletter. After you get "logged in" by Persephone you should be able to enter the password in. (I also have done all the other stuff with the compass too, so I don't know if that is part of it.)

Ok so that's the deal. You have to be "logged in"...which is dumb because I got to the compass site via my logged in Hanso site. The compass site, in turn, linked me to a Hanso site where I was not logged in. So.

if it's not working for you, go log in and view persephone's first message, then "the mouth piece" will work

So in peter thompson's mail folder on the compassguide website, there is the jeep proposal. On the 4th page, it lists the specs for each jeep type. One of the Jeep Compass' is blacked out. If you goto the official jeep compass' website you can download a pdf with all the specs you can choose from. I dunno if there is anything here but im trying to figure out what feature they dont want us to see. Any ideas?

Ok people - I really have read everyones suggestions! Pinky swear! I've followed the whole litany of things Im supposed to do:

went to http://www.letyourcompassguideyou.com

then put my mouse over the 108 degree seciton - got this screen: http://img119.imageshack.us/img119/6276/lost17jb.jpg.

I got the console window - screen2 http://img131.imageshack.us/img131/9126/lost20tv.jpg

Ive answered with both yes AND no...

Ive entered "the mouth piece" and Ive gotten nothing.

Ive clicked on the newsletter again just to make sure - still nothing.

Im in Safari, im hitting enter/return to log myself in as there is no login button. There is a login button below, by the word "Login", but there is not a login button in the Hugh area where it says "Please login for press release". Just an area to type (where I typed "the mouth piece", "mouthpiece", and "mouth piece")

NOW any suggestions? (and sorry for the long post, this is frustrating me!)

Interesting observation. The angles on the compass website that appear when you point to 108 degrees are followed by a number; example 36 degrees is +0.726542. This tickled my old math brain, so I confirmed that the numbers following are the TANGENT of the angle in degrees. Simple, and I have no idea at this time what it means, but intriguing none the less!

Thrasher76, Westengirl29 and Deannacat, the "date" on the electromagnetic page is actually the coordinates you need to get to by hovering over the diagram next to the picture x629 y291 which will also take you to the compass. That's how I got there and beyond...

So it is a clue, but you already found your way to the compass..

Hey all. I'm not sure if anyone's picked up on this yet... From the looks of the files in www.letyourcompassguideyou.org/usr/hmcintyr, it looks like he was online, performed a quick search, viewed a file, copied two files and deleted them both. One file was and rfp (whatever that is) and the other looks to have been a contract. The vimrc files are just source files for vi, that's why vim .screenrc tells me he was viewing (possibly editing) a file, one called .screenrc. The login/logout files describe what actions to take upon login/logout. I'm not entirely sure what the other X files are for... but they look to be configuration files or environment set up files. These guys work with computer systems every day - more than likely linux/unix based systems. Also - on a nerdier note - it looks like BOTH *conspirators* use vi rather than emacs. Awesome! :)

Any thoughts or comments?

vos : you (pl) / YOU can't catch me, i'm the gingerbread man."

Anyone got any ideas what connection this might have?

Interesting - When I reloaded the Hanso site this morning, the picture with the XY coordinates was not under the Magnetic Research section. It looks like it did yesterday morning.

Could it be that the puzzle was only for those of us "early adopters"? Once everyone saw the commercial, then EVERYONE knew about the Compass website, so the puzzle to get there was no longer needed?

Reminds me of last week, when the "early adopters" got to see the red and blue text boxes that you could see the text through, but the next day both boxes were red and no text was visible.

Is ABC giving a bit more information to those of us who are "ahead of the curve"? (or who know enough to read blogs that are!)

I'm new here...second post, but wanted to answer a few things if I have anything wrong let me know also, have a theory at the end of this post that needs a second opinion:

That weird date is the coordinates you need to set your mouse on for the ERI page. it isn't a date at all it's telling you to click on the spot where the mouse matches the numbers given.
October 62, 9291 is X:629 Y:291.

Also not sure if they want to clear it up or not but the loose Latin translation...it is Let Your Compass Guide You, just in Latin :)

Also, I know they want to challenge everyone but don't overthink things. In Peter's inbox message the binary code listed is followed by "URL:http://www.adcott.net/binary/" That site was created specifically for the purpose of cracking that code. If you go to the main page it states strangely enough "there is no website here" when you hover your mouse over the adcott logo. Also, don't rack your brains about the "hidden message" on the newspaper ad that says Happy Mother's Day, that was an actual advertisement that seems to have been imprinted on the scanned file under hmcintyr news_ad.jpg, that's why it appears backward.
I don't think the Alvar Hanso reels on youtube are legit, because the listed names and symbols of the stations on the island does not match up with the symbols or the names shown in the final video Locke had seen in "The Pearl" station. The only thing that can explain this is if the misinformation on all the reels including the facilitator's name change was on purpose so that each research station had different information given to them to help compartmentalize the experiments done by each seperate research station.
This is just a HUGE leap but on the JEEP poster the clock face reads 8:56, and the fireman is aiming at the summer portion of the "Around The Year" disk.
Can it be a date, maybe in the summer? 8=August 5(5th), 6(2006)? Just throwing that out there...
