Clue #37 - Persephone (10) Peter Thompson Busted!

*ANNOUNCEMENT* Sometimes clues and passwords on contingent upon the user completing previous steps. If you are having a problem with a password or clue, make sure you have "logged in" to the Hanso site in the newsletter section, followed instructions in previous clues, etc. If you get stuck, backtrack.

On to the clue...
Check out Peter Thompson's page in the Executive Bio Section...There are transparent letters flashing on his picture (see pic below). Look carefully (and quickly), the letters spell "survivor guilt"

There is an invisible field in which text can be entered under Peter Thompson's picture. Click on it and type "survivor guilt" and hit the enter key. Another Persephone hack! She takes you to a desk with papers on it. From there you learn about 3 events from Peter Thompson's past. Turns up more corruption. Hmmm...

See if you can find Persephone's message, "Don't believe his lies." Also look for DR. MARVIN CANDLE. For a peak at the screens, see the SCREEN CAPS page.

*Credit to Jonah, DH, Cory, Chris, Kris, Kendra, Matthew, Jesse, Ivan, Maria, Alex, James, Elaine, John, Courtney, Jake, I'm sorry...you get the idea (For those of you that had this an hour before we posted it...forgive us...and thank you for your patience...we're doing our best to keep the rest of our lives intact :) and still stay ahead of the game! )

There is an invisible field in which text can be entered under Peter Thompson's picture. Hover your mouse below his picture. When it changes to a text position cursor you can click and enter survivorguilt and hit the enter key. It will take you to a desk with papers on it. From there you learn about 3 events from Peter Thompson's past.

In the show, there have been two or three references to Tallahasee...one being that Kate had been there. The Globoco Oil case file mentioned that the chemical spill was off the Florida panhandle - that's where Tallahassee is. Is that a stretch or what?

the words are saying "Don't believe his lies". If you right click to "pause" the flash you can slowly figure it out. It's kind of tough though :)

I think the the person in the coat is Persephone

So, if I'm following so far, Persephone has hacked the Foundation and led us to clues proving that the PR Guy doesn't always tell the truth and the Lawyer has represented big companies accused of doing Very Bad Things. And one of them may have cheated on his spouse. Add that all together and we now know that The Hanso Foundation is ... a corporation!

Maybe after some more serious skullduggery and fancy Flash graphics, it will be revealed that THF has some highly trained accountants who are working over the company books to show ... favorable financial performance. Evil.

If you keep watching the poem you got, it changes into a series of numbers: ie - 1:9, 1:20 etc

(would post a pic but cont from this comp, workin!)

If you Printscreen this and then go through the poem, the first number refers to the line, and the second number refers to a letter in that line. So 1:9 = Line 1, letter 9.

Going through it, it comes together as: Alice In Wonderland

(Yes, I DID just create my Blog with this user name to post this! Haha!)

Don't know if this is Game or not, but might wanna keep it tucked away for future ref!

P.s. It doesn't work in the "But who wrote it" field!

What is not the connection: Christianity, God, California, Miyagi, Dojo, Cobra (Kai), 1984, George Orwell (Orwell), new speak, crane, wax, burial, corner (and some others I can't remember).

For those of you who don't know what Queens Cross is, it is a church in Scotland founded in 1899. Consult: http://www.glasgowarchitecture.co.uk/queens_cross_church.htm for more.

Sorry if this seems redundant!

Spoiler alert

The ? hatch was the pearl... hence the pearl orientation video... this only means that the person (Desmond?) who wrote the map on the blastdoor had the wrong name at that hatch... if the cv iv is even designating a hatch... those numbers and letters CV I, CV II, CV III...ect. might be something different all together... since the ones at the swan hatch are closed off since the incident... we have no way of knowing what they are as of yet.

Go to Executive Bios

Click on the picture of Peter Thompson ( Upper Right )

Peter Thompson's Bio opens with
Letters for S U R V I V O R G U I L T flashing in the foreground

Place your mouse cursor just below the Bio picture ( Center Screen )

The cursor should go vertical to a text cursor " | "

At this point enter in the words

( you should see them on the screen )
followed by the "enter" key
The Screen should change

If this does not happen then I believe you have followed all the steps

Hi, I haven't been keeping up with this too much and someone may have already said this, but, the image that appears in the background of the three pictures (the person with the lab coat) is the guy on the WWPDP page under the "Press Release" tab. Also in the text to the left of his picture, the cursor changes over "miracle", Although I haven't been able to get it to do anything.

Hope this helps.

It's not the wwpdp guy , but the guy from the orientation videos...

And the miracle thing has never done anything... not yet anyway... maybe it will... maybe it won't... try reading the blog before you post... If it isn't from the last clue it has been thourhly discussed under its own section... take some time to read the clues if you are going to play the game...

dedjezter, I'm sorry if repetition is making this game harder for you to play, but maybe you can help me out. I have read from the blog clue 1 up to the current, and I didn't see anything mentioned anywhere about the "miracle" word changing the cursor.

You said it's discussed under "its own section" -- where would someone look for that? There don't appear to be any blog entries about the WWPDP. Do you mean that we should read all of the hundreds of comments under every single blog entry before we dare post something we found?

I personally found something on the Mission Statement page yesterday, but I suppose I'll wait to share it until... well, I won't be able to get through all the comments and sidetracked discussions on every entry, so I guess I'll just not risk frustrating people with repetition and keep it to myself. I'm sure there's nothing to be said that hasn't been said already.

I hope not everyone feels the way you do, though, because I would much rather read something twice (or ten times) than not see it at all. The excitement of discovering something on your own is legitimate even if you weren't the first one there, in my opinion, and I appreciate that people are sharing that excitement here.

that helps me find discussions of specifics.
hope that helps....

It's all good and I'm not offended. I am glad you could find it quickly, but if Clue 21 is about a press release (not about that page), how would anyone know to look in the comments of that particular clue?

I guess maybe I am not as rabid about this as some are... and I feel like you never know when someone will repeat something that made no sense when everyone first saw it but suddenly clicks into place just at that moment.

We can agree to disagree on whether posts that seem irrelevant or repetitive are good or bad. :)

Meanwhile, the thing I saw on the mission statement page was that if you take all the acronyms of all the active projects, an anagram starts out DHARMA FILM but I couldn't get any farther. Also, the descriptions under the logos do not match on two of them, and I was wondering whether that was deliberate. I hope it's not a repeat of info, but maybe someone will see something in it that I do not. I'll wait to post finds again after I've read all the comments, so we both get our way, deal? :)

Blogger jackbauer'shappyplace said...

Sorry to bring this up again, but I've got something to say about Dedjezter's postings too.

Stop being so arrogant dude...I've read a bunch of your postings. You like to puff out your chest and say 'This theory is right' and 'That theory is wrong'. How do you know? Did you design the game? Are you a writer for the show? For example, are so sure that The Pearl is The Question Mark? Why? How do you know? The Pearl orientation film is labeled 5 of 6. On the blast door map, there are 6 hatches around The Question Mark. It's a perfectly valid theory that The Pearl is one of the 6 hatches around The Question Mark and not The Question Mark itself.

For you to shoot down other posters (like Ross) who throw out ideas and theories about the game and/or the show is wrong. It's ok for you to disagree but try to curb your comments with things like, "I think The Pearl is The Question Mark".

It's also really arrogant of you to try and tell others what they should and shouldn't post. How are you affected if somebody posts something about a clue that's already been discussed. Do you have to read it? If you already know about it, skip it and move to the next one. Don't go out of your way to flame a fellow poster. That just inhibits the discussion of ideas that these boards are meant to encourage. Plus, what takes longer for you? To skip to the next one or type out a post telling people not to post ideas about old clues.

And lastly, according to your last post, "ignorance is bliss and some here are very blissful". I would consider you the most blissful of all.

quickly...i know this may not be the best place to post this, so sorry about that! Ive been wondering could Persephone be Karen De Groot (helped start Dharma initiative). In the orientation tape she looks a lot like the blonde/closet/creepy woman. Plus...that bit in the most recent clue, about working for criminals...persephone is clearly part of the organization.

5/20/2006 11:53:00 PM
Blogger jackbauer'shappyplace said...

It's definately possible. We know that Persephone has some connection to Dharma (from the 'newsletter' logon at the start of the game). But I think the "I work for criminals" clue is confusing. Is it Persephone saying it about herself or is it Persephone saying it about Peter Thompson?

Just a late response to T and Hanko and that, and for anyone still reading this who cant get any of the little password boxes to work, remember you have to sign up to the Newsletter first.

Not 100% if you need to do this every time you exit the site and go back in, but you DO need to do it at least once, so that contact with Persephone can be made and the hacks open up. I think the newsletter actually remembers your IP or something, cuz whenever I use the website from a comp i havent been on before, its goes up like the first time i did, but remembers me from then on and says welcome back...

If you find yourself not being able to make them work again, just try checking up on the newsletter login again. Works for me!

Blogger DeDJeZTeR said...

Dear JackBauer,

I never said I was right about those things. It was just my opinion and an attempt to further the conversation... so who is being arrogant here, you or I. Also what I meant was that the blastdoor shows the text "The Pearl?" I THINK that it was stating that the pearl IS the "?" or that the writer of the map thinks it is or doesn't know where the pearl is. I never said that this is right and you are wrong.
If thats the way you took it, then who am I to disagree with you... Practice what you preech... I just said what everyone else had been saying in order to reitterate the point... We don't know... hence the (Desmond?) I was being just as skeptical as the next guy on that point.
Also I have Never Flamed anyone as you so delicatly put it... I just think that there is a lack of information when it comes to the posts people are throwing up. True it is not hard to skip to the next post, but it is diffucult for everyone when the next post and the next post and the next post are all the same information that has been repeatedly covered. If people would just take some time it wouldn't get so frustrating for everyone else trying to get the valuable information they are looking for... in example the need to sign into the newsletter repeatedly. I have no quarells with you or anybody else, but the new comers are finding it hard to get the info they need since it is all acattered about at random... My attempts are not to judge but to help keep things in a controlled layout so that it will be helpful when warented.
I too would consider myself BLISSFUL at times... yes. Because even I have repeated myself in different sections, to try and get to the bottom of things or bring up a debate about a specific clue that has come to the forefront of the conversation.
The only Flaming being done was what you just wrote. I mentioned that the CV's in the diagram were not part of the hatches as a whole and that Karen Degroot is on the boat at the end of season 1 (see the woman who throws the bomb) she looks and wears the same seashell necklace as Karen Degroot is wearing in the orientation film. But I try to say these things in a way that isn't going to spoil the show for those who have only seen the first couple of season 2 episodes in other countries.
I am not judgeing people for there opinion but trying to shed some light on what they have said. If you think that is wrong, that is your problem and if you really don't like it that much just skip it and move onto the next post.
All this confusion and now even this post are just making it longer and harder for the new comers to get the info they need. So again I am just trying to help and if you feel personally attacked that is your OPINION just as I have mine and Moonunit has hers (Zapppa?). The point is to work together not work against.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned it, I did a real quick Find on the site and it returned nothing, so here goes.
Through the Paik-Heavy site, if you click on the slow air demo link, you can get to a website by Peter Thompson at http://www.squidoo.com/phi-eri/, the first post there has four links on it: 1998, 1994, 2001, and Clair Nims. Each link takes you to what appears to be the same page, where the numbers 76,73,69,83 are written in a vertical column spanning about twelve pages. The very last set has a link on the 3 in 83, which just returns you to the phi-eri site. At first glance this is useless, but I looked at the .php file names in the address bar, and each is different, and all are clearly in hexidecimal. If you convert those names into ASCII text, they each say a single word. Untrue, False, Helpless, and Hopeless. I can't remember if they are in that precise order though, and I don't have my notes in front of me. Also, in light of the "Survivor Guilt" password and what you learn by using it, the numbers 1998, 1994, and 2001 correspond to the years in which Peter Thompson was involved in litigation for the Oil, Nuclear Power, and Tobacco industries, wherein a lawsuit blaming each industry as the cause for an increase in cancer rates was filed. The last link of the four is also related, in that Peter Thompson states I work for criminals, always have always will. Or something like that. Because if Clair Nims is an annagram for Criminals.
Though this is just kind of an interesting bit of info at this point, the really interesting part is at the bottom of the page, where there is a post titled Follow Me.
There are several links, that force you to take some unrelated quizzes, which you have to sign up for, all for the purpose of piecing together the name of a .php file. If you click on the Answer link, a page shows up that just says Try Again, or something like that, and it links back to Phi-Eri. But the address ends with abcd.php, the idea being that you replace a,b,c, and d with some values that you get from the quizzes. I'll save everyone the trouble and just tell you that you should replace abcd.php with g22ab. This takes you to a message from Peter Thompson, which you can read for yourself, but at the bottom is more hexidecimal. Which says "offline for a couple of days", and a link of hex which says "will update Monday" that just sends you back to phi-eri. Sorry this was such a long comment, but you should definitely check it out.

I am new to this type of conversation, and not very computer literate, so please bear with me! I have performed the compass task and came up with a lot of stuff that does not make any sense to me and I have failed to see any response to it on the blog discussion I have read.

Have others of you solved it?

I found this; DI9FFTR751 Does this help?

If you have not solved the compass segment just move your pointer around the outside of the compass until it is over the 108 degree point, then the hidden messages appear.

Also, have any of you checked into the other hidden sites, like Black Diamond Group, LLC and Cbeyond? I have not seen any of you mention these either. Regards, Ron

Thinking about this clue...'A mouse does not rely on just one hole'.

I wonder if it might have anything to do with the links to THF on the other LE websites. For example, if you click on the grainy pictures of (not) Alvar Hanso on DJ Dan's website you'll be taken to THF. Also, on the Gary Troup website (garytroup.net), in the links section of the site, clicking on the Bad Twin logo at the top of the page will take you to THF.

I tried going to THF through these other links and didn't notice any difference. But thought someone else might want to try to see if they noticed anything...

Looking at the Jeep picture in Hugh McIntyre's INBOX. The guy with the hose is spraying the Virgo symbol of the Zodiac. Virgo was named after the Goddess Demeter. In Greek mythology Demeter had a daughter, her name...Persephone. Maybe it's just a coincidence but maybe there is something to it. Also the numbers that make up the name of that file translate to 'missing organs'. I don't know but it seems like there is something more to that picture than just 'The Mouthpiece' password.

The marvin candle site reeks of fansite-err....ness to me. You never know, but not only does it look like a fan site (due to the fact the text is all backwards, which seems pointless) but also because it relates more to the show than the experience.

www.MarvinCandle.com has got to be a fansite.
it is too cheezy and stupid for it to be something legit to the game.
(especially the spooky lost numbers in the back)
but sharp eye beka!
keep looking.
and we'll keep the real abc team running.

This probably isn't the appropriate thread to post this, but I just noticed that the opposite side of the map that "Henry Gale" drew to find his balloon looks to be the title page of the novel, "The Brothers Karamazov," by Fyodor Dostoevsky, which could be a reference to the Widmore brothers in Bad Twin. Perhaps pointing in the direction that Henry Gale is actually Alexander Widmore. Maybe?

There is a Wiki about this page:

Also, Hurly's numbers are in the list of numbers at the end:

4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42, 22, 23, 3*5, 24, 23, 2*3*7,

not that is matters but i thought this was interesting:
dharma (the word itself, not the lost-related one) has something to do with Buddhism, and Hugh's password appeared next to a Buddha statue in the Jeep ad.
Another non-experience related thing i realized that im sure many have already:
Henry Gale=character in Wizard of Oz, the Wizard got to Oz in a hot air balloon, the same way Henry(the LOST one) said he got to the island

Didn't find anything in the source code either. Except "2."

And if you run 2 through the ASCII translator, you get Ag== (I think the g== is a coding error for 'S', like what happened in the last number clue.

Nothing amazing really, I haven't got a clue!

not sure if this will help or anything but there's a hidden link slighty diagonal from the bottom left corner on so far every page I have checked on the Hanso site. Just move your cursor down and a little to the left, not so exciting though it just moves the background blue and green lights around, probably not that useful but just pointing it out.

Blogger belly0fdesire said...

2 doesn't give Ag... It's a smiley face symbol.

It's a little known fact that you can quickly and easily translate your own ASCii without a translation site by using the ALT key. In any text program, hold alt and press the numbers in with the key pad, then let go of ALT and the character will pop up. When you hold ALT and press 2, you get ☻. According to the ASCii chart, however, 2 translates to "Start of Text". So I'm not sure which is meant.

Another possibility I'm considering is that she is trying to direct us to use binary for the decrypting of another measage or something, but I can't find any signs of binary anywhere.

Or maybe the 2 is directing us elsewhere... maybe we aren't supposed to translate it, but interpret it and follow it's lead. I don't believe it would be there without reason tho.

I'm on dedjezter's side on the whole read the posts before posting your own thing. I'm not going to threaten or insult anyone who posts something that has already been posted, but it wastes space and time. It's rude to not be considerate and read the posts of everyone else before posting your own. How many times do you think the same questions or statements were repeated in Clue #29, and then after the first post, you have 3 more posts that explain the answer and then a few posts after that telling the original poster that it's already been said. Dedjezter's been an active player in this game since the beginning.... no need to start flaming each other in these comments.... maybe I missed something, but it seemed pointless to me

I ran 2 through the text protion and came up with mg== in base 64. However when 2 is ran through hex that is when you get ag==. So the question is which one is it and what does it mean. I went to check the numbers and there was now a symbol there. maybe something is going to happen.

HAVING TROUBLE WITH THE PASSWORDS STILL??? All you guys need to do is "log in." Go to the newsletter page and try to sign up. "Talk" with Persephone and type in "yes" and then "breaking strain." It opens up everything else (as long as you have the passwords :)

P.S. I find it funny that only 30 year-old guys are ending their posts with "Namaste". Stop...it's kinda gay.

Go to the grey border of the hanso site down where it says 2006 Hanso Foundation. From there go to the left where the rounded edge is. Take your cursor down slightly then to the left like a backwords L. It's a pretty large button so just circle around there. Post if anything besides just moving the circles happens.

i love it when someone named kull tries to make me look like a geek...but whatever. and i'm not out to ruin anybody's fun. these puzzles are already a little nerdy...its a little overkill to end every one of your comments with namaste. we all gotta read, including me, and i think everyone has seen the video so it is pretty redundant. that's all i will say on the matter. if you must feel like you have to do it so be it, but a few of us die a little in the inside each time you write it.

metz: i understand what you're saying, but you're right, this is a nerdy game. so if someone wants to nerd it up then i say go for it.

as for 2.com or two.com or whatever, if it's just a new site outside THF org that she's trying to point us to then we'll see it on the hanso commercial this week on lost. they're shamelessly blatant about that crap because most of them are commercials. i have a feeling 2 means that something more is coming...

so keep watching...
