Clue #43 - Gary Troup Info (7) USA Today Ad from Hyperion

Thanks to Cindy, we found out that there's a half-page ad in today's USA Today about 'Bad Twin':

"The book the Hanso Foundation doesn't want you to read".

Dear Loyal Readers,

Since we were founded in 1991, Hyperion has published thousands of titles from hundreds of respected authors. Hyperion stands behind each and every one of these books with pride. We do not take accusations of libel lightly and certainly not when they mask an attempt to censor one of our authors.

The Hanso Foundation has lashed out at Gary Troup's book "Bad Twin." Before publication, this meticulously researched book was carefully vetted by our legal and research departments. All of Mr. Troup's claims about the Hanso Foundation have been verified as true.

Having failed to stop publication in the courts, the Hanso Foundation is now waging a PR campaign in your newspapers, offering no evidence to back up their wild claims of inaccuracy. If you want the truth, unfettered by Hanso Foundation propaganda, we encourage you to read "Bad Twin." The truth is in there in black and white.

Thank you and good reading,
Robert S. Miller

I was just in a Walmart store this weekend picking up some baby formula, and they had "Bad Twin." I didn't buy one yet however.

I've read it. Read it in about 7 hours. It's not that long. As a stand alone book, the story is just OK as the end is a bit lame. The thing that makes it interesting is that it's about the Widmores. Hanso and Mittlewerk are mentioned a couple of times, but nothing really significant. This blog has pretty much everything Hanso related from the book. I got it at Borders for 30% off, thank God! It wasn't worth the $21.95 regular price. Wasn't even really worth I ended up paying for it. =o/

SPOILER!!!!

I've thought since the beginning that Karen DeGroot may be Persephone and I'm still totally open to that, but after last night maybe Pen Widmore is our gal? She's obviously using her resources to find Desmond and has her own station(s) set up. "Pen" is usually a short for Penelope, but it could be a nick for Persephone. On the other hand, would she use her real name or a name similar to her own? Who knows? I'm just doing a bit of random theorizing.

I agree with ProJoe, why use a screen cap when they obviously had access to the actor playing Locke's dad. Does anyone remember what construction company Michael worked for, could it Widmore Construction? Seems these 2 companies are intertwined some how. What language were the guys in the snow hatch speaking? And one last thing, the hatch door that fell on the beach was pulled inward toward the magnet from the ceiling of the 'snowglobe' they are in..

I think that they will continue to go a little mainstream with clues...perhaps a 60 minutes special on Hanso Foundation or corporate corruption...they did state that it would encompass all mediums of communication...perhaps they will call us at our homes since they have our information they aquired from our own government wire taps...lol

It almost seemed like turning the key was like a re-set button for those close to the hatch...Charlie seemed very confused when Claire asked about Locke and Eko, but it could be being blown into a wall by TNT as well...I am still interested in the 'other' hatch door that slammed to the ground, could it have come from the top of the dome they are inside? Think: Truman Show...which would disappoint me...but it is plausable, how else could these experiments go on without public scrutiny...very interesting stuff to go through, too much for my pea brain right now...

Kelvin said that they key was the only way out and made it all go away...since the dooms day computer is broken how will they push the button? Do they even need to anymore?

I also think that 'Henry Gale' is one of the Widmore's and is there to oversee the experiment continues, did you notice he did not seem affected by the lights and sounds when the device was going nuts?

It is going to be a fun summer, I cannot wait until the new season. Perhaps the DVD of season 2 will exclusive content that will be helpful to the game.

Ora,

The hatch door was made of metal and everything metal was being pulled toward the center of the hatch, unless it was blown into the air from the TNT, but it would not have travel that far, I think it is a mystery yet to be solved or it has no relavence...no worries.

SPOLIERS!!!!

Maybe she is just trying to find the island itself, who knows at this point. BUT she did have the picture of her and Des on her bedside table so obviously she still cares and she may know that he ended up there. Entombed by her evil father perhaps? She is a Widmore and may be privvy to project information. In BAD TWIN the Hanso Foundation has offices in the Widmore Industries building and the companies are closely linked. I think she knows he's there, but doesn't know where "there" is exactly (Henry Gale told us that even God couldn't see that island) and has been trying to locate him and has set up her own project (the guys in the snow)to that end.

Ross: I do that because while I, and others, want to discuss things we already know about the show, there are people in other countries that are behind us in the series and don't want to know what's coming up for them. It's a courtesy to them to put a spoiler warning when you're going to discuss recent events in the series.

Deannacat - While I agree with you not wanting to ruin someone's fun, wouldn't their fun be ruined just be reading the main page of this site? Theorizing on things from the main page does not need to be listed as a spoiler when most people read the main page first. I am not trying to start an arguement just wondering why we are wasting our energy on this topic.

Thrasher: Some folks from Britain asked that we do this for them two weeks ago. You can play the game pretty well even if you're behind on the show and reading the main page isn't going to spoil the show, just the game.

Deannacat, Sorry I was unaware that our friends across the pond actually asked us to do this for them. Not a big deal to me. There is not a lot going on at the moment so I thought I would chime in on the subject. I wish we had some clue to work on other than the faceless man.

Yeah, there's not much going on now. I was irritated yesterday when the clues were coming on and it was almost time for the recap show to start. I'd seen Revelations or whatever it's called before, but thought what the heck! Don't know when I'll get any Lost anytime soon, so I'd better take advantage!

No it appears to be someone's domain that they have deompiled the flash and put it here. This is not directly related to THF.org. Seems to be someone just trying to throw people off. For one it is lacking the htnl or php files. Lacking the xml etc etc. Nice try though.. Had me stumped for about 15 seconds.

I don't mean to but in here but something has been going through my mind.
I still haven't found a reason for the picture of what seems to be the guy in the video that was found in the hatch talking of why the button needed to be pressed.

This picture can be found at http://hole2.the hansofoundation.org

Going through all the clues, I came across a video (got from the same place as the video advertising the jeep which linked from hugh mcintyres inbox), that many of you will have seen no doubt, which is the video played in the hatch. The difference is that it is extended in that much of the first half of the film is not seen by the characters in Lost. I am sure I have seen all episodes and have never seen the beginning of this. There are other videos of the Dharma initiative to be found there that I haven't seen either.
In the video from the hatch, at a point before the "Lost people" got to see, Alvar Hanso is spoken about and then a picture of him comes up. It is the picture used in the Bios page and home page of thehansofoundation.org.
This is a clear link between "The Lost Experience" and the series Lost (Unless of course the video was manipulated but it seems fine to me)
It seems to me that the video came out before the Hanso website did so I would have put that question to Hugh on the show. I doubt he could have got out of that one.

More to the point though it seems to me that seeing as though this was such a difficult clue to decipher (hole and 2) the picture must have some significance somwhere along the line.

I mention it here really because this is the only place I follow and I'm sorry if this post is out of place. It's just that I do a fair amount of searching on bloggs etc. and I don't see much of a mention of this.

I'm thinking that there are too many scenes that involve him and him speaking that I haven't seen before. Where did they come from? Surely thats too much to edit. Entire sequences without the actors?

BellyofDesire: What a condescending jerk you are. How would THAT lead to moderating? That's just silly. Moderating will likely come from people being down right mean and telling others that they are ruining the site and should leave. If you would have read above, I put a spoiler warning in the original post then later explained WHY it was there. Folks who are behind the US in the series asked us to perform that courtesy for them. But you might not know what courtesy means judging from your tirade. Obviously, those who think that the show and the game don't tie in together didn't quite get the clue about a mouse not relying on just one hole. That's straight off the blast door map, sugar. A second season, fairly recent show if you remember. Therefore, speculating about the show and current events in it are entirely appropriate, particularly when spoiler warnings are given. Cprout was correct. Most likely we'll see very strong tie in's between the game and the show in season 3. If not, then all of this is a excersise in futility.

People I emplore you to calm down. This is meant to be fun, it is not real life. It is entertainment and free speech is still allowed in this country, at the moment. Take your pissing match outside. Let's work together to figure things out, a spoiler alert is fine by me, actually it is only a true spoiler if it is fact and not opinion. How much do we learn before a show airs? Tons! And we enjoy it, why else would be still be here doing this.

Peace & Namaste!

BAD TWIN has the entire Widmore clan in it as far as I can tell and there is no mention of a Penelope Widmore, which seems rather odd. To those who have read the book: Any guesses as to where she fits in the family tree?

Thrasher: You're right, it IS supposed to be fun! And it has been up until today. However, when someone directs people to other sites in a step by step manner as if speaking to a 5 year old, that's condescending and I don't take well to it. You can't blame someone for being defensive when they are being talked down to and told to go away. Would you have taken that post well if it had been directed straight at you?
Also, Belly insists that "everyone" feels the way he or she does. Obviously not the case. I've been on this blog literally from day one (that's how I know the Brits and Aussies prefer alerts) and there has been a lot of speculation, some of it very good and helpful. It's the LOST Experience, afterall. If it doesn't tie in eventually, (and in fact it already HAS) it's pretty darn pointless. I really don't get why people are enraged to the point of censorship about it. Big deal, don't read 'em.

Bad twin spoiler:

Mykull: Don't know. Arthur appears to be the patriarch in the book, but maybe he has a brother, Charles. Pen would then be Arthur's niece and Cliff and Zander's cousin. It's possible Charles could be running a part of the company while Arther's bunch runs another? Or Charles has stepped up, possibly by force, to fill Cliff's shoes in hopes Zander never get's his act together. Arthur is probably not in the best shape to take it back over, afterall.
