How the Argos System Works
N.O.A.A. satellites orbit every 108 minutes or about 14 times a day. The satellite scans a 5,000 kilometer wide area as it passes. The satellite is within transmitter range for about 10 minutes. If the transmitter is sending then the satellite will receive multiple messages from the swan's transmitter.
Because of the earth's rotation a transmitter at the equator would be scanned once a day while a transmitter at the pole could be scanned 14 times a day.
When the satellite passes one of three main ground stations, it downloads the information to computers. The computers then calculate the location of the swan and send the owner of the transmitter an E-mail message.
The Shadow-A-Swan website then updates the archive for each swan, maps the longitude and latitude and calculates the distance traveled since the last reported location.

Well originally the ultimate theory on another site (the one who posted the theory that satellites had something to do with it) said that inputting the numbers was to stop the satellite from seeing the island.
Just a theory, but thats why me and hubby checked it out so thoroughly!
Somewhat off topic, but I was checking out the UK Big Brother website (channel4.com/bigbrother) and one of the sidebar ads features Joop and advertises the LEP project. This doesn't appear all the time, but it's in the ad cycle. Clicking the banner takes you to thehansofoundation.org.
Channel 4 is the station here that carries Lost, so there's the connection. Just interesting more than anything, I think.

It got me to thinking that Desmond in the show side of the house, not concerning the game side, missed one of the times of inputing the numbers which would throw off the whole "satalite invisiblity shield" type thing. Kind of off topic and silly but has anyone noticed that there are gramatical errors on the hanso website? On the main page the smog filled photo in the lower right hand side says ...and our our work for a safer environment. Nothing major or earth shattering, but it could be 'true' what Hugh said about his webmaster making a mistake since there are others.
Also the mha is not listed underneath the logos for all of the projects...

I noticed something yesterday. You know how sometimes we lose the clock on Hanso? I think that happens when you load the site during those minutes when OBEY is in the clock space. I reset my clock several times to test that and it worked for me everytime.

Remember that Henry Gale said that "Not even God can see this island" The producers said that we should listen and watch Henry very closely. Inputing the code so satellites can't see that place is a pretty darn good theory, IMHO. Also, he didn't seem to affected by the EMP or whatever it was. Need to go back and watch the ep again so I can check his feet when he's walking down the pier. He might have had only four toes! LOL! Interesting that DJDan was talking about the weapons. And here I thought Hanso was oh-so benevolent...
Hanso was also an arms dealer before being such a benevolent SOB! Henry seemed to be very unaffected by the electromagnetic meltdown and he seemed to look up towards the island...very interesting...maybe this is atlantis!
The Organ Courier job description says that a knowledge of martial arts, self-defense and exstensive weapons training essentail. Why would an organ courier need these skills? Could this be why we know 'missing organs'? Has the previous organ courier lost his cargo?

Thrash: I noticed, along with others, the VERY strange qualifications needed for those positions. Are they stealing organs? Why would you need tribal dialects and an ability for high speed travel? Also, highly gifted minds at the Vik Institute? Results of the "incident" perhaps.

Really? Henry had his hands on his ears. OK. I thought he looked like he knew what it was, too. Although, in Lockdown, and you tell me if I'm crazy, he didn't seem to know what was happening in the hatch when the lockdown itself was happening. He was in the armory alone and the look on his face made me think he was genuinely surprised by the noise. Also, their hatch appears to be caved in or a fake and their clothes suck. Maybe they're unaware that drops are still happening. He also said that Kate, Jack and Sawyer are going "home" with them. So where's THAT exactly? One last thing. Desmond thinks he brought the plane down and he may be right. But why was it so desperately off course to begin with? Can the EMP be so strong that it sucked a plane 1000 miles off course before crashing it?
Atlantis crossed my mind, too.

What the hell is going on in Korea that's pissing people off to this degree? In the original phone messages the "inquiry into the Korean off-shore project" is mentioned, but they won't comment about it and this job ad says that sea-based travel will be required. Inquiry into the project, eh? By who? Right after that is when Thompson comes on and yells that threats against employees of Widmore and Paik-Heavy etc. are criminal.

Persephone would qualify as an unforseen human complication.
That could be someone not liking what they see or what they are being asked to do and raising a ruckus about it. A persuasive, open demeanor and previous experience in psychology and mediation are preferred. Sounds like they are looking for someone to talk irate employees or nosy public officials down. Someone who can put a more pleasant face on a situation and deflect criticism of the Foundation.

interesting novel from the 17th century...

THAT was a great find, Thrasher. The man that drew that map was into heiroglyphs, magnetism, geology and proposed quarantine and facemasks to prevent disease.
Is anyone realy adept at greek mythology? I took it in college, but never really paid great attention, how many toes did the gods have? Could that foot statue be an Atlantian tribute to the gods?

Atlantis may be a strech, since most accounts of it's possible location have it NW of Africa between Africa and the Caribbean...flights from Australia to LA do not fly in that direction unless conecting in an eastern city, non-stops tend to fly east over the pacific. Extremely well made, but I didn't seem to learn much from it. What I mean is, we already knew all that stuff about social engineering and science converging from the first Orientation film. And we've known since season 1 that the island had unusual magnetic properties. The only relatively new thing is the satellite deal (which we've already discussed in here today) and the idea of satellite tracking being used in the show was really just presented on Wed night. This was put up on the 13th, looks like. It could go either way, I guess. How's that for non-commital? =o)

My reasoning behind thinking that the video is fake is: nothing really that is "in game" brought us to the video. (unless you are in game t-emmer) spooky music
But, every clue that we have gotten is derived from something that is already determined to be in game. When the new stuff arrives IE sublymonal it is supported by another site or "clue" which is a secondary check to prove to us that it is in game. Now if we were to get a message from P or the jeep Budda or whatever that sent us to this video then I would believe it and look harder into it. But as for now I feel it is a nice video, but not in game.

Thrasher: Here's an idea. There were heiroglyphs used in the hatch on the countdown clock, right? Those were deciphered to mean death. Could the statue be a hind foot of Anubis? Consider this:

When I get to the site, I get a rotating Sprite can in a single yellow rectangle (the same shape of the TVs that was on the site when it first launched a few weeks back). Below that, is the text "Do Not Blink. Your Mind is Being Refreshed".
There is no place to enter a password, and the only visible link is the sound off icon.
It looks like they have changed the site sometime today; those of you who can still enter the password as of this posting probably have a cached version of the .swf file.

The video was practically pushed in my face when following the game. The link from Hugh Mcintyres mailbox to the jeep advert video had all sorts of key words next to it. Pretty much all pointing to this videos (and other(s) just as professionally made). It seems to me that it would be perfectly logical to find these videos by following the game.
The comparrison to the man in the video and the picture found at persephone.thehansofoundation.org (which has to mean something; it was a hard clue to find) is startling. Is this clue pointing us to the video? And the other video(s) to be found on youtube about the Dharma initiative?
I think that t-emmer23 made very good arguments for the video being something to do with the game, if not just to intrigue us.
I just wish someone could find something concrete.

I have seen the Hoffitt film, and it is definitely FAKE.
If you look at about 2:40 there is a "Hanso Industries Tracking Site" sign. Everything in background is blurry and moves around a little, except for the sign. This was OBVIOUSLY edited.
The Hanso logo on the building is a little too "shiny" and looks computer generated. The opening and closing screens would be very easy to add.
I think what they did is use some generic space/science educational video, and re-record the sound so they could add Hanso and Dharma references.
100 bonus points to someone who finds the orignal video.
Nice, we are getting points now, are the arbitrary like the ones given out on Whose Line is it Anyway? If so I demand 200,000 points up front!

Matt - It is strange as I was doing my digging and found some cool stuff that may relate in greek mythology I noticed that the Jewish religion came up alot. Hitler himself actually searched for a mythic greek power that would give him ever lasting life and ultimate power. But alas he did not succeed. Many religions and Lost mythos are rooted in greek mythology. Read up on some of my early posts with some interesting things including a guy that was into alot of the same things Hanso is into, but in the 17th century. He even made a map that looks like our island hatch map...

sorry bout that, i knew you were looking up the myths, but i didnt know you found word for word.
Hi all, I've been working on the faceless man angle. I had a theory that hasn't quite panned out but is worth mentioning for the sake of at least ruling things out if nothing else.
I had a theory about the faceless man thing. I recall someone saying we were reading it wrong. To me that suggested that the picture is not infact a picture at all. It's a stream of data. Now it's not really my field to look at things in binaries and figure out codes from numbers but I am fairly good with sound and I recalled that there are programs that can convert images to sound. I dug one out ("The vOICe - learning edition") and plummed the picture through it. I tried different angles and speeds and a couple of the runs seems to show something that sounded like a voice. All well and good so far, but things like EVP and the supposed back tracking trials (ask Judas Priest about that one) has shown us that it's quite easy to hear something that isn't there in "noise" type sound when you are looking to hear something. I did run a few other black and white pictures through the program to see if it produced similar effects and they didn't. Of course that doesn't proove anything, but it suggested the sounds were worth further investigations.
I put the samples into Adobe Audition and did various things to it, like isolating the centre channel, EQ and noise reduction, but I didn't get close to finding any definite phrase. What is in there is either a fluke or an excessively complex clue. Having said that, the whole method of finding the face wasn't exactly A-B to start with so perhaps this is meant to be a difficult one. I thought I heard "Further down the wire" or possibly "Pale Water" (with the earlier part of the "words" being pressumed just noise at that point) through one of my samples and "Obey" in another one. I ruled out the later because it's something that is shown regularly on the main Hanso site and so has probably been plummed into entry boxes (and URLs) all over the internet multiple times already.
I couldn't clear up the "words" well enough to make anything out clearly. I suspect a different picture-sound program may come out with a different output too and there are so many word possibilities you may as well ignore it and just make words up until you find something that works. In other words, one big dead end. I may put mp3s of the files online somewhere if people are interested, plus the program I used is free so anyone else can give it a try from scratch too if they want. But I think you will be wasting your time.
As I said though, at least it is something to rule out and it shows people are still working on the face problem and haven't been sucked into the Sprite marketing frenzy.
I agree with you Alex. I read every single post under every topic on the site over the last three days. I now hope that I'm up to speed. I'm now staring to work through the Messages Board posts and getting close to being done. Whew!
I'm posting this here because this seems to be the most active clue people are on right now.
Has anyone noticed on thf.org Mission Statement the picture of the dove being released by two hands (which only show 3 fingers on each hand by the way) seems to have changed slightly. The white "smoke" or "feathers" left behind as the bird takes flight seems to be different now. It seems like it is a picture of something similar to hole2 man. I'm not computor literate enough to manipulate it. Or, like most of you guys, am I beginning to see things that aren't there as we wait for this long holiday weekend to end?

No, that just got added. If you subscribe to the RSS feed, you get updated when the various pages on thf.org get changed.
If you click on the "man" in Sudan, and the "$" in the USA, there are two places to enter passwords. Not sure what can go there yet...
Alright then. The RSS feed has confused me because it alerted to every clue/update except the second one... so either they had problems or don't always update it. Don't know.

If you go to the USA, click on the $, and type in 42000 and hit enter, there's a slight change. Now go over to Italy and click the syringe icon there and type in 10.4 and hit enter. Finally, hit the icon of the man in the Sudan and type in 2.55 and hit enter.
A circle should appear in the Indian Ocean. Click it.

Looks like the thf.org website has been updated today! I just emailed the people who run this blog, but I thought I'd post here too:
The RSS feed reports a change to the Mathematical Forecasting Initiative.
There is a new MFI Forecast Map that brings up a world map with several different icon types: people, oil barrels, syringes and dollar signs. Clicking on the icons gives you small pop-up bubbles with data for that region.
Clicking on the dollar sign in the US, and the syringe in Italy show pop-ups that have a text entry field. I entered some random text, but nothing happened. Looks like we need the right code...
