Clue #46 - Persephone (14) +1, Hole 3, Save Me
Thanks to our faithful chatters in our comments (I think they actually beat the Speaker on this one...talk about setting world speed records for subverting authority!), we noticed that Persephone's numbers (at persephone.thehansofoundation.org ) have changed to read "+1". Speculation led us to hole3.thehansofoundation.org and we see a broken link to a photo with the file name: t9agen75.gif
A guy named Matt spied the picture before they took it away (Way to go Matt!). Below is what he gave us.
Next, someone named Duality "randomized the pallet" and zoomed in on the left eye and it looks like our picture contains the message "Save Me". This is very interesting because last week, someone named Kyle converted the Hole2 picture to audio and sent us a NEW LINK to videos with unusual sounds. We thought he was crazy when he told us he thought it said "Save Me"...now he's got us wondering if he's onto something.

the image appears to have a very distinctive chin dimple, however none of the images on thehansoufoundation.org has a dimple on their chin...

They don't look like they overlay. Hole 2 is wearing a tie. Hole 3 is wearing a t-shirt (I guess). If the image on the blog is a copy of the original they aren't even the same size...

We saved this picture from hole3.persephone.org before it went down. It's not just me -- some other folks over at the tail section and unfiction saved the exact same image.

I have tried copying the older image over the new image by firstly making the white background of the older image transparent but nothing looked any good. I don't think its anything to do with that.

Slightly off topic now we have new clue but if you multiply the answers you are to put in the map section 10.5 x 42000 x 2.55 and then TAN you get the answer 0. I feel there is probably a code or clue in there somewhere.

I brought the image into Photoshop, removed some of the noise, and did a little bit more tweaking.
It seems that viewing it at a reduced size makes it a bit easier to see the facial features.

Although Speaker said that if the image isn' there it is because of the server being busy I agree with jd. It is genuinely as if it isn't there anymore. If you right click the red cross where the image should be and choose show picture it doesn't try very hard. If the server was busy it would time out then come up with that cross. As far as I know anyway.

I agree with you...I think it has something to do with q-tangents based on the other posts on tangent numbers...I'm not a math person...lol...so I'll leave it up to that.
If I stretch my imagination, I can hear "save me" in that audio clip, however the "save me" is definitely under the eye.
It can even be seen if you zoom in using Paint. Check it out for yourselves.

This gif has 16 colors which make up the image. I changed one of the colors in the palette and the words stood out like a sore thumb! I also darkened the colors that were actually used to make the image.

This is quite probably true.
lena: it's a filter in Photoshop, but you can see the same thing by clicking on the link I put ^^up there or by zooming in on the eye in Microsoft Paint... randomizing the colors in the image just makes it stand out a lot more..

Lol, I still have MGI PhotoSuite 8.05 lying around, so I opened up the image. When I did that, 16 squares open up in my window in greyscale -- that is the color palette for this particular gif. I changed them one by one until I found the one that changed the text for "save me." Oh, and I darkened the others to make it easier to read.

Using this method will not work with the hole2 image, of course, because there are only 2 tones in the image: white and grey
lostluvr29: according to the Speaker, the heavy traffic to the site is why we are having trouble viewing the image... strange excuse to me... I would suspect just as much traffic to hole2 and we had no problem viewing that image, but I agree that we should not discount the file name as a clue just yet... maybe TPTB were testing how fast we could get a copy of the image before they remove it, who knows?

Because no-one had figured out what the picture that was at hole2.thehansofoundation.org was for, somebody (can't remember who) decided to feed the file through an audio program pretty much just for the hell of it (tried everything else). When played back it sounded like save me but was really hard to tell. The guy who did it put a number of other images through to see what he could find and couldn't find anything so it was semi-reasonable to assume that maybe, just maybe it did say save me. Most thought wishful thinking but this latest clue seems to have strengthened the theory.

kyle's posted a lot of useful info in these blogs and maybe I'm wrong, but I can't hear "save me" in that audio file. I didn't save it. Could someone that saved it upload the file to another hosting site? Both the links provided by Kyle are down.
I believe the program used to convert the image to sound was Adobe Audition, which you can download a trial version of if anyone wants to play around with it...
I went back through the mathmatical forecast web page. When you click on that border area of china and mongolia, you get the whole she was an employee of the foundation written backwards. Well, the first 50 times I went through it I had the volume down. Someone go do it and tell me what you hear with the volume up.

Has anyone noticed that the clues in the projects section have something to do with the actual project...the electromagnetic clue used a compass which uses the poles...this clue is on the mathmatical forcasting...it has to be solved mathmatically I beleive...they all have something to do with where the clue comes from...Math wizards have at it, not my best attribute!!

I think we need to assume that the key to the gif file codes is Q9 and T9. I don't know what to do about the chinese version, but surely there's someone familiar enough with text messaging to sort out what various messages can be spelled out using agen75 in T9 lingo (sadly, I am chronologically incapable of thinking this way). Isn't "75" translateable as "is okay"? That seems promising. The first word could be "Chen", but I don't know anyone in game with that name. Text messagers, help!

It was apparently a hidden image in the swf file used when you enter the mittelwerk clue (heir apparent I think). I got it while browsing through the folders found here under mettelwerk. This link was posted above by nashgirl.

That picture that wisardry posted, when inverted looks like an eye, also, there is an arrow in the middle on the right side pointing into the pupil. also, when you sharpen it and zoom in there are some weird colors and patterns. anyone seeing the same?

What does "gematrain" mean?
In a sense it is one person Hole2 is Alvar Hanso before he disappeared in 2002. He may have been the altruistic founder of a philanthropic group (The Hanso Foundation) whose initial aim was to bring peace and harmony to mankind (and all that goody-goody two shoes dreck.) However his goal was quickly subverted from the inside by shady dealings and crookedness from guys like Thompson and McIntyre. Hanso saw his dream being crushed and was planning to make some changes, but his crooked underlings found out, kidnapped him, re-educated/brainwashed/cloned him to bring him back as Thomas Mittelwerk (who I think the Hole3 is) to lead the Foundation in its crooked "starting wars so you don't have to" business.
Persephone is either :
a) a close colleague of Hanso who saw/had knowledge of the kidnapping and took off to save her own skin, and now in her guilt is looking for help (us) to save her boss.
b) related to Hanso and again, trying to use us to bust Hanso
c) Hanso's subconcience/soul/memories that are manifesting themselves through the web to say "J'accuse!" He/it might not realize that he's disembodied from the Mittelwerk host. At this point he may have even forgotten he's Hanso. The foundation could have even stored his "old self" in Joop and created a new persona for the body, complete with plastic surgery as a final insult to Hanso.
I think Hanso / Persephone is telling us to "Save me/him" from his new corrupted form.

I'll bite. It seems like there might be something to Namibia, since (1) it is spelled wrong on the map, and (2) it is apparently shown in the small hidden image that someone (sorry, I forget who) found in the Indian Ocean. Maybe it's significant that in the small hidden map the Tropic of Capricorn is visible -- which "connects" Namibia to Brazil. Iran could be the third apex of a triangle, but I see no other connection. (And that's unlikely as a clue, since the triangle would cover a huge part of the globe.
Interesting: The "small map" of Namibia ("Nambia") shows part of Zambia, which is a suspicious hanso location. Also, there's an "I" missing from Namibia ("missing organs", Candle's glass eye, .)

The Magnus = Hanso's father is an interesting theory. I've often thought that he could be Hanso's twin, but I'm sure it's too early in the game to tell for sure. Thank you for posting this theory though. I don't really think the numbers in the hole 3 filename is indicating a date, it just doesn't sound right to me.

...and people thought that I was crazy to look at the sound of the picture! Just a shame I couldn't quite make it out. Thinking back "Pale Sea" isn't to far from "Save Me" soundwise. Ah well.
fenris: yes, I remember you're initial post regarding the sound produced by running the image through Adobe Audition and saying it sounded like Pale Water or Pale Sea, and almost like Obey... I think taking this route on this image is fascinating, however I still don't think this is how we are supposed to interpret this image.
I can't make out "save me". I mean, if we were looking for "carpet pinata" we could probably convince ourselves that it's in there. I think this is supposed to be interpretted differently.
Sounds a little bit like Kit from Knight Rider running over a cat, imho.
I think if this was the way were were supposed to interpret hole2, it would be much clearer. It's quite a stretch to arrive at the conclusion that the sound is saying "save me" and I don't think TPTB would be satisfied with putting out a clue that makes us stretch our imaginations so far. They could have easily made the "save me" perfectly clear. It may be correct, and if not, then at the very least it is fascinating, but I don't think we should hang "hole2" clue up quite yet.
Still driving me crazy... they had better not let this go without us figuring out what the correct interpretation of this clue is.

Yeah, that is why I didn't follow it up (and I didn't post the sounds, because, well I'm too lazy to sign up anywhere I can upload it). I remembered seeing a program on the Judas Priest trial where the defence got the jury to hear "I asked her to get me a peppermint, and so she gave me one" backtracking on one of their records. I've also listended to a few questionable EVPs in which you can hear virtually anything if you are listening for it. Really if it is a genuine clue it's a bad choice of delivery. But the way it ties into everything else does make me think it is genuine. Just they used a "code" that was never going to give a definite answer. At least I feel less mad for trying it anyway.
Anyway, I am wondering now if Alvar and Magnus Hanso are indeed the same person and if they are the one that needs to be saved and is Persephone. Which makes me wonder if the "she" that used to work for the Foundation is a she from the show. Either that or Alvar is a woman and the "used" to bit is because she was overthrown. I think the maddness is back.
Alvar is, I'm fairly sure a name for light-elf. Good spirits from Norse/Germanic mythology (which makes sense if he is Scandinavian).

Technically it's Alfar but Alvar may be another version or it may be where the name came from or something. We haven't had any norse mythos yet and it's entirely possible with the Scandinavia link (and I'm better with Norse then Greece myths anyway).

The reason I'm asking is because I think we're being pointed in that direction -- I typed agen75 into my cellphone as a text message (with T9 predictive text turned on), and I got agensl, which I at first took to mean "angels," but now I feel quite certain it means angles, after reviewing nb's information and also this picture:

Also we have yet to decode the meaning of "q9als2002.gif" . . . I don't really know what to do, unfortunately. I do know, however, that q9 is a similar method of predictive text to t9.

Just a ramndom thought but the gif image is in gif 89a format. This is pretty far fetched but... If you start numbering letters at a=1 b=2 c=3 d=4 e=5 f=6 g=7 h=8 i=9 j=1 k=2 l=3 m=4 n=5 o=6 p=7 q=8...
Then the fisrt part of the q9a corosponds to the gif standard used in the image. Maybe (I said it was a stretch...) the file name is telling us that we need to change the format to see the answer. The Speaker told us that we weren't looking at it right. Maybe we need to convert the file to another format to see the answer.
I know it's out there but I'm brain storming and have no way to follow up on it. Are there any imaging experts out there that know if there is a 28a gif standard and if there is any way of converting from one to the other?

Hey, I don't know if someone has already posted this and if it is even relevant, but if you go to http://www.oceanic-air.com/seatingchart.htm and click on "Pre-Board Check In," you will have to re-arrange the name Ethan Rom to "Other Man." This then starts a cut-scene of Walt's abduction. Afterwards the seating chart to starts flashing particular seats and other quick messages, including changing Flight 815 to Flight 777 after you click on Jack's seat. I'm not sure what this means.

I saw a copy of the hole2 image in polar coordinates which looked like it could have been something. Could it be that we need to convert the home2 image and then perform a trick similar to the hole3 image on it???
About the Hole 2 audio. It is not supposed to say save me.

For those who don't know, the favorite icon for every site is located at http://site_hostname/favicon.ico. For example, go to http://www.blogspot.com/favicon.ico , or more appropriately http://hole2.thehansofoundation.org/favicon.ico ... If it doesn't exist, it'll just show up with nothing.
This is probably just a screw up on the web designer's part... or maybe it means they accidentally deleted more than they should have from hole3.

Quick point, probably unimportant but NAMBIA scrambles to "I B A MAN" Perhaps a clue to Persephone's indnetity? Since we are not yet even sure what we are trying ot find out, identifying Persephone seems to be one of the things we would want to know.
Also, can someone who has a better grasp of all this than I do a comprenensive list of:
1 - The sites and passwords we have matched up
2 - THe sights we have found that we do not have passwords or activations for, and
3 - Passwords, or expected passwords (Like "save me) that we do not have a place to use.
This would be helpful to people coming in and for thoseo f us willing to spend some time "trying out the keys"

the only thing I have come up with for the q9als2002 is that a quinal is an agricultural measure in some country or other I can't remeber which.

Just a note on more angles, 108 degrees west of GM, basically runs through North America (Colorado), 108 degrees East Runs through China. Near where the pointer on the Math.Forecast map gives you where you get the whole "she was an employee of the foundation". of course thats in northern latitudes. Theory
Marvin Candle expresses a sense of emotion when mentioning the incident in the Swan Orientation Video. I saw this more as a sense of guilt rather than "hey, I lost my arm." Marvin Candle, or whatever his real name is, believes his actions or inactions led to the death of someone significant. I believe that person was Alvar Hanso.
The Magnus Hanso gravesite on the door in the hatch references Alvar Hanso with the title of Magnus - a great man.

Alvar Hanso was first and foremost a manufacturer of weapons, especially high-tech weaponry. His attempts to better humanity can easily be explained as self preservation.
He had already initiated the life extension program on himself based on the age of Joop. Remember, Hanso was selling arms during WWII, so he isn't some young guy, and the age of Joop means that the life extension program began much earlier than what we think it may be. Joop may just be the first successful experiment. How many failures did they have before that?
The eradication of disease, including mental illness, would be something of significant interest to a man that may live to be 2-3 times longer than the average person.
Cloning is the next logical step in the process. Even the life extension program doesn't guarantee a person immortality. This can explain Hanso's interest in genetics and experimentation with animals in apparently hostile environments. If it is possible to create a Polar Bear that can tolerate tropical temperatures, then could the logic be reversed and allow man to live in hostile environments as well?
Theory (cont'd)
With Alvar Hanso dead, well momentarily, a power vacuum was created among his followers and partners like the Widmores. Those loyal to Hanso, would proceed with a plan to clone their dead leader, a man by now they would view as being almost god-like. Other factions would attempt to take over, causing a rift in a once cooperative relationship. This might explain why we get a sense that there are more than one group of Others, and why one group refers to themselves as being the "good" ones.
Persephone has provided clues to the corruption within the Hanso Foundation. This SAVE ME clue is quite interesting. I think she is referring to Alvar Hanso - or more precisely his clone. If the incident happened recently, which I believe it has, then the clone of Alvar Hanso would be very young. It's quite possible the clone could be a baby.
Here's another point. I believe the Missing Organs are the Losties. The primary Missing Organ is Claire's baby - the Alvar Hanso clone.
When the others take the children, they do so because they are seeking Alvar's clone. The "Bad" Others seek him to prevent his eventual return, while the "Good" others seek him to restore Alvar - perhaps even accelerate his age and restore his memories.
So, why let Claire return to the Losties? I think the "Good" Others are more concerned with the "Bad" Others than they are with the Losties - who in their minds might just be Organ Donors for their members. Ethan did return to bring Claire back to the Others, and then Charlie killed him. If the "Good" Others showed special attention towards Claire's baby, who they beleive is the Alvar clone, then the "Bad" Others might figure it out and focus their attention there.
Yes, all of this is speculation based on the clues so far. Just trying to piece together a coherent message from the clues thus far.
