Lost Experience Podcast Episode 3

A special guest, an opinion about the Hugh McIntyre Interview, more insights about "Bad Twin", and more listener feedback. Make sure you stay tuned to hear an exclusive interview at the end of the podcast.

Click HERE to launch iTunes, find our podcast, and subscribe.

Sorry that we can't afford mega-bandwidth. We're not making a dime on this thing. Thanks for all the feedback! Keep it coming. If you want to mirror the podcast, send us links and we'll post them.

*Interesting note: After the podcast, we started receiving emails that there was a "hack" on savejoop.com. Basically their banner has been changed to flash and every 30 seconds there is static and it says "Don't believe the lies." I'm now officially mad at Shaun and will pester him until I get a straight answer.

Bogus that the Speaker can't be on the cast. ABC can eat mah shorts on that one....who is really evil there...ABC or Hanso?? hmmmmmm...

Not good putting Sean on the spot for free t-shirts....off aire maybe...but not on tsk tsk...

and I felt a little "led by the nose" with the whole "special interview" comment at the beginning....If you'd told me it was Sean and not The Speaker or DJ Dan or whoever...I still would have listened...

Kudos for mentioning folks like Bellofdesire. :) He's gooooood.

I - Uhhh.... Bring back William pleeeeeeeeease!
II I wasn't planning to pick up Bad Twin, just hoping to scrape along by with the summaries, but Daniel's point about using page numbers / letters as cypher text brings up a good point. This book is going to be the common reference point now so that P can post a clue like 83/1/7 and we'll go to page 83 look at line 1 letter seven etc...
On one hand it makes it easier for everyone now so that we'll know where to look for some clues (hopefully some one will recognize it.) However now it means I've got to buy the book. Oh well....
III Daniel, there's actually a third camp really, that thinks that both the events on the show and the ARG are mutually able to exist in the same world. Persephone had a clue relating to McIntyre about not believing his lies, maybe we weren't supposed to believe that LOST is fictional. From Gary Troup's Bad Twin Bio we know that Flight 815 did crash, so the events on the show which he claims are fictional could be true. That said, the ARG hopefully will stay away from the Island altogether. If it's learned a lesson from The Beast (The A.I. game that ran in 2001) if any information is given out, it'll just be easter eggs, akin to seeing Sawyer in the background of Boone's first flashback, it's cool to recognize, but utterly meaningless.
IV It was great to hear you guys giving some shout outs to regular contributors, way to go belly0desire, DeDJeZTeR et al...
V From lamebrain's comments about you guys on iPod/Tunes whatever: What makes your podcast special, is that with solving this game, it takes a community, no one's gonna come up with the solution to every puzzle for themselves, and turning to the blog/forum for help is necessary. Your podcast is just another medium for people to use to get help. Keep up the great work with it (Just uhhh.. leave Jeff off in the future!)
VI Dudes, the accents, errrr..... I could tell you were having fun doing 'em but er... kind of thought about skipping ahead a bit.
VII Can you confirm whether or not Speaker is Damon?

Keep up the great work, always fun to listen to the 'cast

I bought the audiobook so we audio-philes better not be left out of the possibly cipering...

Was in bed listening to the podcast before going to sleep and I ended up which my jaw agape while doing the rock n' roll sign with my hand that wasn't holding the iPod.

Guys, I'm blushing. Seriously. Guess I don't need to mope that I'm never mentioned in the clue thank yous... audio shout-outs rule! Text ones drool! :)

Alright. Real life calls. And I'm not sure that we should separate the worlds all together yet. Don't think it's ever going to be in the way we've been thinking of in the past but still... LOST is fictional and are using real-life facts like Hanso. Though Hugh said Dharma was cancelled in the 80s...

Really, we just need a human aspect to it. The characters from LOST are the only human aspect we have thus far. We need it to feel connected to the story and follow along with the mystery of the experience to the extent that we have thus far. Until the people behind the Experience give us more of an emotional connection... we're gonna keep reaching for the connections.

We NEED it. I NEED it. And they've got to find it again.

GGGTTTC as a genetic sequence, although partially makes sense (it would code for the amino acids glycine [GGG] and then phenyalanine [TTT]), is missing a critical point. Part of how you would read such a sequence is called a "reading frame" in which you find a three-letter code (the three letters is called a codon) that signal you to "Start" reading (or, in the cell, for the transcription to start...most of the DNA we possess doesn't do anything...the cell needs to know what is important and what is not and this is the mechanism it uses to do this). There is no start codon in this short sequence, so there is no reading frame AND there is one base left over. A single base cannot be read as anything significant without two other bases and a reading frame reference.

So, thanks for letting me use my knowledge a bit for this game because I can't really do much else fast enough!

Not sure about the ruling out of show related stuff. I mean if we are to assume the show is based off information assertained from Hanso (assuming Hanso as real) then there is still every reason to reference information from it (the only thing it would theoretically rule out is considering characters from Lost to be directly involved). There are three people/groups that have had used info about Hanso and have been spoken out against by Hanso. Persephone, Gary Troup and the makers of Lost. If we're supposed to be getting info from the fictional book Bad Twin, why shouldn't we be getting info from the fictional show Lost? Take the blast door map for instance? The quote about mouse holes is on the door, in the show and was also used by Persephone in an in game clue! That takes us directly to the other info on the blast door which is the perfect place to hide game related info amongst all the other stuff. So maybe a character from Lost won't come out in Lost or the game as being Persephone, that's fine, but that doesn't mean that there aren't clues to be found in the show and if it is meant to be metafiction and not fiction (in the game world at least) then we could find clues for the show in the game. Why not? Again it may not be that Mittlewerk is HIM but there could for example be information about the projects if they are based on information about the in game version of Hanso.

So personally I'm going to keep open minded about finding clue information in the show or considering information from the game for speculating about things in the show. If I'm wasting my time fine, but if we ignore, for example, the possibility of Persephone referencing something from the show for a password or url (considering the show exists in the game world and therefore is a valid source for Persphone to use) then we may miss something vital.

My thoughts on savejoop.com- during the podcast I headed over to the site and saw the flashing banner, and the only reason I could see a connection to ABC would be so they could add clues on the site. Not sure though, but something to keep an eye out for.

6/01/2006 09:43:00 AM
Blogger Matt the Pale said...

I think you just experienced the real power of the game. What if, in the ARG, ABC is in cahoots with the Hanso Foundation? And they, in turn, are in cahoots with Shaun, or maybe Shaun himself is playing the game as if it's real?

Your post makes you seem a little thrown off by this new turn of unexpected events -- and that's good, because it shows how deep the game goes. You don't know *what* is going on... and now you've been placed inside the game without even realizing it.

Or maybe you're just playing us.

6/01/2006 10:40:00 AM
Blogger ShoxTP said...

It does seem very fishy that he would cop out like that. I do believe he has been "Compromised" and that he sold out to ABC. why we don't know but only time will tell in this "Experience"

6/01/2006 10:47:00 AM
Blogger Greg said...

If you're into the game, the (simple) flash addition is definitely a neat way to garner more attention to the shirts. And if ABC HAS decided to hide something within the site, let's hope in this case, SaveJoop isn't making extra money off of it and that they're doing it just for fun like you said. Not because I don't want to see RandomShirts avoid profiting from their efforts, but because that DOES seem like a breaking of the trust you thought you had, and that's not cool.

In other words, I think you may be over-reacting, but if your inklings are correct, then it is totally fair for you to react negatively. Fight the power... uh-- I mean, Namaste.

Matt & everyone,

I was thrown off but I don't know if that is a good thing or not. Should a game have that much power?

Anways, I deleted my last comment because I just got off the phone with Shaun. He said he had read my comment. After talking to him for a second, I remembered how friendly he was and felt bad about the tone of frustration that I took in my last comment. I apologized to him and wanted to apologize to everyone that read it. I got a little too into "the game" and became personally frustrated. That was my fault, not his. He was way cool about it.

He is playing the game with us and playing it well. His final word on the phone was "Until you see an actual clue on savejoop.com, you have no reason to believe that we are affiliated with ABC" and that's all he would say. I pressed him little for a direct "yes" or "no" and he still wouldn't give it to me. I've looked over the site and don't see anything "persephonish" so for now, don't think that there is anything to get too excited about. But I'll be watching...

This game has got me spinning.

Blogger Matt the Pale said...

You and I already know the answer. Savejoop.com is undeniably affiliated with ABC. I can give you a concrete reason for this:

You said yourself that the Speaker could not come on your podcast because it would be seen as an endorsement.

You think it was an accident that Jimmy Kimmel mentioned savejoop.com on his show?

Amen, K.Barrick and Fenris! I still think the ARG is pointless unless it ties back to the show at some point. So, put me firmly in that camp. Persephone has told us not to believe his lies, so I think Hugh (on Kimmel) talking about the show being "fictional" and Dharma being ended was bogus.

I FINALLY got my computer to cooperate with me so I could listen to the podcasts. What a chore! But the payoff was awesome...thanks for the shoutout!

FINALLY I was able to share the stripped audio from the savejoop.com flash file. (There are 2 sound files - one is just noise, and this one actually sounds like something...but not quite sure what).

That's funny... They talked about my "pukey radio voice" comment.

the whole point of DJ Dan talking about jeep monster and sprite is that he SOLD OUT. he bad-mouthed Hanso and now he is sponsered by the same people that sponsor Hanso!!!! it seems that whenever someone even remotly accuses hanso of anything, they get silenced, bribed, or bought out.

I am going to die if I don't get some straight answers regarding JooP! Of course, ABC has recognised SaveJoop.com as we have seen from the interview with "Hugh McIntyre". Anyways, I think ABC could've paid SJ to do that. anyways i will ttttyl

Listened to the podcasts. They were all good.

I took your advice and sent an e-mail to Hugh Mcintyre as if I thought The Hanso Foundation and SaveJoop.com were real.

I basically tore him apart telling him how immoral what they were doing was and how they need to stop. I hope/doubt I'll get an e-mail back.

And, if I can figure out how to make a resume [yeah, lame] I'll post them to HansoCareers.com.

I remember when I first came across the site, I e-mailed them and said, with a subject of Organ Courier, "What happens if organs go missing?"

Well, this is my first post, so I guess it's okay for it to be a little long? I just wanted to get on here and let you know I'm trying to do my part, and I love Lost and the Lost Experience, and can't wait for more clues to come in.

I want to do everything I can to help further us along.

Well, see you in the pixels,
Kyle Michaud.
