Clue #49 - Persephone (16.5) Retrievers of Truth & More!

We received reports of a new Hanso ad appearing on the ABC show Boston Legal with a link to the site called Retrievers of Truth at the end. In addition to revealing the new website on the Hanso commercial, "Retrievers of Truth" was handed to us on the IGA page of the Hanso site. When Persephone's countdown (from Clue #48) ran out, there was a noticeable change to the IGA page. Parts of the Mutant Cell/Normal Cell comparison began flashing and, if you put the cursor over the circles, you will see the words "Retrievers of Truth" appear on the chest x-ray.

If you go to this site and enter your email address for the newsletter sign up, you will receive a rather random message with many odd words. One of those words was "porter". If you go back to the Retrievers of Truth page and enter "porter" in as your email address, you will be taken to a secret Verizon employee message board.

Amongst the many interesting and relevent discussions listed in that message board, you will find a reference to a site: www.richerdeeperbroader.com, which is a Verizon site. If you view the source code for that site, you will see an arrow pointing to the word "Parthenogenesis". This is the password that must be entered on the IGA site in a hidden textbox to the right of the "Education Outreach experiments at the Institute for Genomic Advancement" description of the image. Entering this will take you to a series of pictures with a clear reference to the Dharma Initiative.

Thanks to bgoal, Scott, BellyOfDesire, Christopher, Stingray, Gary, Matt the Pale, M2Saint-TheTruthTempest, 007surge, and Raegan

Hey guys and gals,

Just wanted to say another big thanks to all of our regulars here for helping us stay on top of the new clues and for your patience this week while we're a man down with David on vacation. We'll do our best to keep the frontpage as up to date as possible over the next few days and just ask for your continued patience if it takes a little longer than normal for clues to reach the front page. Thanks so much for all you guys do to contribute to this site. It's a blast playing this game with all of you!

A new site. THAT is what would REALLY please the masses.

And I LOVE how all the books are "sadly out of print."

The Yellowstone National Park facility and it's whistleblower seems to be important.

It's also important because I've lived in Montana and can say "I KNOW WHERE THAT IS!" in comparison to Luxemburg or Switzerland, etc.

Go to www.retrieversoftruth.com.

In the place to Sign up for the newsletter, instead of an e-mail, type:
"porter"

Then, the page will reload. Go to the Sign up again, and put in:
"porter"
one last time.

That, or keep putting in "porter" till it works for you. Have a party of it.

Then, well, the rest is self-explanatory.

I already posted this, and maybe is a simple reference but it seems more relevant with the dog site. From Wiki: Jeep "is a reference to a character from the Thimble Theater (Popeye) comic strip known as Eugene the Jeep. Eugene the Jeep was a dog-like character who could walk through walls and ceilings, climb trees, fly, and just about go anywhere it wanted; it is thought that soldiers at the time were so impressed with the new vehicle's versatility that they informally named it after the character.

I bet Hanso is trying to build a dog just like that.

After you sign up for the newsletter once, anything you put in there should bring you to the "underground" website. You will probably have to type it in a couple of times, and be sure to click on "go" not hit enter.

I'm working on getting a video of the commercial up on youtube, but having a little trouble with that... sorry, but will get it worked through.

Here's the reply e-mail from the dog site:

You're about to enter...

First let's start this by saying, "thank you."

There's a word into which dreams can come true. This email is your
gateway to that word and more that will open your mind and your
consciousness.

Imagine a field - a field of yellow... yellow labs running free,
playful, and enjoying each other's company. But in their hearts they
are not complete. They miss an integral part of their being and the
thing that makes their existence complete. That one thing is the "word"
for which we all search - mankind and labkind.

But first a story.

I was checking into a hotel and a dapper porter escorts me to my room.
As we're going up the elevator in total silence I decide to ask him
his name. He replies, "Mandrake Wig" and immediately starts to explain
the odd name, his German ancestry, and his mother's preoccupation with
botany. He ends the story by saying, "my friends just call me Manny."

We continue talking about our lives, hopes, and dreams as I'm getting
settled in my room. When he's done I offer a generous tip but he
refuses saying, "Let me give you a tip, a single word that will enrich
your life, as it has mine." I accept.

The next day I go to the front desk to leave a tip for Manny. They tell
me no such person works there. I question everyone with no luck. I
think about what he told me and write down his name so I don't forget
it. As I write I see something in the letters. I rearrange a few and
create the words, "waking dream."

The word he gave me that day was - YOU.

Yours truly, Dr. Vincent "Wally" Bole

Oh yeah! In case anyone didn't realize, either Matt the Pale or Matt the Pale under aid by my mind through telepathy, realized the genius of putting in "porter" to get to the -real- site.

Here is a quote from the e-mail you get from signing up for the newsletter:

"Imagine a field - a field of yellow... yellow labs running free,
playful, and enjoying each other's company. But in their hearts they
are not complete. They miss an integral part of their being and the
thing that makes their existence complete. That one thing is the "word"
for which we all search - mankind and labkind.

But first a story.

I was checking into a hotel and a dapper porter escorts me to my room. "

Thus, we got "porter" as the word to put in. It led you to the reality. The "porter" led you to the true site.

Get it everyone? ^_^

We should start investigating every thread in that forum. Anyone find something revealing in the Source Code? Although I wouldn't expect something that obvious, however. I think our greatest clues may lie in the content itself, or at least somewhere "new" that we don't conventionally search for in a website.

They appear to be like a forum that is studying the Lost Experience...mentioning how if you call the hotline you get "Breaking Strain", and how teh newsletter "hacks" the site, as well as watching Hugh on Kimmel. Except for the people posting, the Hanso Foundation is a REAL "evil corporation" in their world.
Also tehy appear to be working in the Hanso Foundation headquarters. They mention how Mittelwerk walked by their desk. I think it's better for me to just tell you to read every thread.

Some other possibilities - they are the people who created the "dog site", just as a distraction for their real activities?
They are all obviously Anti-Hanso. "DSLerator" is interested in a conspiracy theory about them.

Websites mentioned:
www.richerdeeperbroader.com - probably meaningless, like the Jeep ads.
http://www.andyfoulds.co.uk/amusement/economists.htm - kind of funny. maybe be useless, to add to the "real forum with real people" illusion, but...can't be sure.
http://emri.perception.net - true mystery. Definitely something of interest there.

jd. Case in point: First clue "breaking strain" from calling a HANSO phone number shown on a tv commercial.

That was a clue where Persephone went something like this...

"It's... the BREAKING STRAIN. -BREAKING STRAIN-. In case anyone didn't realize my emphasis in an overly obvious way, I'm saying: B.R.E.A.K.I.N.G STRAIN. Got it? Well, awesome. Don't forget, BREAKING STRAIN, kay? Awesome. BREAKING STRAIN"

Ok a few things about this new site. First off that dudes face has definately been photo shopped. Secondly if you click on the more link below it, it goes to a bio page and there is a picture of a woman named valeri bole the wife of "wally" bole. You can tell as well that the head has been photo shopped onto another body. Not sure if anybody else remembers her but one of the first on tv cooking shows starred Julia Child. Pretty darn sure that that is somebody elses head on julias body. So why all the goofy cut and paste photos???? Also somebody earlier was saying that they didnt think the site seemed legit because it wasnt swf, but think about this long and hard. This is an interactive game. Anybody working on the game from ABC has access to everything that we do. Therefore they can see all theories see how quickly stuff is solved how its solved. They can easily come up with something to throw us off or make us second guess. If we start to think that every legit site is done in flash then they will possibly try to slip important information by us by doing a crapily done site just like the retrievers of truth. Also just kinda popped into my head in closing here. Dont forget about the "retriever" (his name eludes me at this late hour" on the show. Is there some kinda link about his significance on the island.
Think about it.

Wait........you can't. There goes that theory.

I think that the countdown is going to lead us to a bogus side clue that is not real. Why would persephone announce her intentions before hand? It is like sending someone a letter saying: "I am going to hack your site in a day. Please don't have your IT team working on a fix."

Doesn't seem smart.

Also , the password to the secret forum from the Retrievers of Truth site is porter, Porter was Walt's Step-Dad's, the man who gave him the dog, last lame...I just simply cannot believe that the Lost experience game has NOTHING to do with the show. I think they exist in the same universe and the game was created by the writers to enhance the show and to keep people busy during the summer until Season 3 starts

"DSLerator - Ugh! By the way, M. is in with the boss. I can swear I just saw him snatch a folder off the shelf!!"

"iobiSeeingYou - Get back in your cubicle!"

Now this appears to me like this guy DSLerator works at THF, and also apparently moderates these message boards... Maybe there's more than one mole inside THF.

Also, I don't recall hearing anywhere else that Mittlewerk was off the premises, and this sounds like he was kicked out of THF.

La Ville Du Chien Jaune Université outside of Troisvierges, Luxemburg. =

"DSLerator - The way things stand now with HANSO folks lurking around our offices, how can you be sure you are not developing programs for the talking monkey people?"

Probably means that Mittlewerk and the Hanso guys are at the RoT headquarters.

Another interesting quote:

"Fiberoptician - No way have I been writing code for a talking monkey sponsored project"

Does this Fiberoptician design THF's webpages?

LOL m2saint.

An observation on the international-ness of TLE... unfortunately the sponsors may be the problem here... the first Hanso ad had no refernce to a real-world company did it? So no conflict with US and international sponsors. But these later ones? We haven't seen another add, and unless there is a change I don't think we will.

The Ninja book drop was I guess a move in the right direction, but other than a message from the Ninja and marked text there wasn't much else to it was there? Maybe they should have had someone from Hanso show up and make a scene... and make a news segment out of it!!!

Back from dinner...

Trevor: my flatmates and I have been religiously downloading Lost since about halfway through season one. Go, bittorrent, go! For some reason I can't get the ABC.com eps to work, wonder if it's just meant to be one of those in-country things? I know the BBC runs some shows off their sites, but only within the UK.

Truthiness Tempest: Don't worry, New Zealand. You'll have your day in the sun. Now, what do you know that I don't? (ps, I'm a sister)

I agree with the point re international brands - I mean, obviously Sprite and Jeep are well known, but I'd never heard of Verizon before this show / ARG (which I guess means that the publicity is working). That said, there haven't been any of the subLYMONal campaigns here either; I'm not even sure if the lymon drink was released here way back when. But then, how many countries is Lost shown in? I remember something in one of the press releases about working with 17 networks or something like that. Who knows.

I mean, I'm well into this and all, but was hoping for something a little more akin to the A.I. ARG what with telephone calls and emails and door knocking and all that sort of craziness.

Nonetheless, play on :D

Truth Tempest - I was thinking something similar, only the Seminole are in Florida and the Inuit are in northern Canada / the Arctic; my friend wikipedia tells me that Inuktitut refers 'is routinely used to refer to all Canadian variants of the Inuit traditional language, and it is under that name that it is recognised as one of the official languages of Nunavut and the Northwest Territories.' Arctic makes me think of that spoilery bit in the final (not sure who hasn't seen it) - although the daylight outside their spoilery hut implied to me that it was Antarctic.

I don't know, maybe it's like saying 'how about in Swahili?'

So much close reading - eyes boggling -

NOTE:

To get back to the Dog Site after having gone through the "Porter" password, just delete or add on the "www." It's the same issue with some people not seeing the new clues and their cache... just backwards this time.

I've been coughing the whole night through and so I'm skippin' screenprinting. :( but the good news is I get to stay at home next to my computer ready for the next clue. :)

Bad news is I'm still coughing up a lung.

Defintely Verizon tie in.

But I think TLE creators are poking a lttle fun at all the blogs as well.

FROM ROT HIDDEN SITE:

HOW IT STARTED
We've discovered that our beloved company, Verizon, is being used by the Hanso Foundation to further their plans for global domination - think rebel alliance vs. evil empire. We couldn't just sit on the farm and not get involved. So we got... involved.

THE ROT
We didn't want this job. We tried to ignore what was happening. But we saw something no ones else seems to have noticed... yet. The devil is not in disguise, he walks among us. He is the Hanso Foundation and he wants nothing less than our very souls. So we packed up our apathy and climbed the nearest electronic rooftop and shouted. And this is our voice. Open up your eyes, throw off your tattered skepticism and read in... the TRUTH

If you go to http://emri.perception.net click on the picture and it shows a message and then turns into a fax.

If you tab through the document and hit enter between the "terms of use" and the adress to the site it gives you two backwards url.

/evawkcohs/bup/moc.aidemorcam.daolnwodpf//:ptth"=esabedoc

and

www//:ptth"=egapsnigulp

The rest is unreadable to me at least, it's hidden behind the fax.

Oh well can read it all if you ctrl+a and copy/paste it into notepad or similar. Seems to be links to plugins and flashplayer and coding for colour and size of the page.

Meaning it's mumbojumbo but it's still weird.

Do you get the feeling that the creators of the Lost Experience are watching us to obtain feedback or to play off of our speculations? The Retrievers of Truth seems to have a lot of similarities with fan boards and blogs like this one. That may just be their way of recognizing the fan base. It could also be an attempt to pass on misinformation based off of our own speculation.

When we speculate, I'd say we'd be lucky to be 10-20% accurate. If our speculation is almost dead-on, then it starts to become something that is too good to be true.

This may seem paranoid, but I think we would be wise to scrutinize all potential clues for the possibility of misinformation.

Whats the chance this Verizon board was here all along. Maybe this was the Hole2 thing she kept referring two. Plus didn't that letter about "Hanso starting Wars" thing have a Veriozn thing at the bottom. Check out the dates on thread. Or I am just really wanting to find purpose for the HOLE2 clue?

What do we do with "waking dream" now?

"Waking Dream"

That's interesting because I posted a quote of L. Frank Baum the other day on insidetheexperience.com.

Imagination has given us the steam engine, the telephone, the talking-machine, and the automobile, for these things had to be dreamed of before they became realities. So I believe that dreams - day dreams with your eyes wide open are likely to lead to the betterment of the world. The imaginative child will become the imaginative man or woman most apt to create, to invent, and therefore to foster civilization. A prominent educator tells me that fairy tales are of untold value in developing imagination in the young. I believe it."

That newsletter was quite nonsensical. I think "waking dream" and "Mandrake Wig" were obviously the messages we're supposed to get. I think they had to come up with the way to put those messages in there after they thought up those clues (if they are clues). Hence the newsletter not flowing very well.

good morning everyone...

KC Farmer.. I'm pretty sure they are monitoring this board as well as a few others...

I'm not going to have much time to post anything today, as I'll be in training all day (I'm beginning to think my company is owned by Hanso)... I'll miss whatever's going down in 5 1/2 hours... sucks, but meh... that's work.

Good luck to everyone today and Namaste

OK, I do think I have read through these posts here, and I apologize if this has been stated elsewhere and I am repeating this. Only my first post here so Sorry :) But has anyone noticed on the ROT site if you click on more under the Twisted Doc, on the next page he's got quotes from 9-22-05 in Australia and 9-21-05- isn't that when the plane went down? Is he supposed to have been on the plane? Maybe he was meant to go to the island?

O yeah, I also noticed that "waking dream" and "mandrake wig" are both anagrams- so somewhere in there is the real next password? or site? No good at word games, but I guess we'll have to wait.

I believe the message board is a clue as well as a "Holy crap people! Calm down with the craziness!"

OF COURSE people that have created the game are following along! First, there's Speaker who's some kind of important higher-up and then Second, if you were a part of creating this crazy system there's no way you'd sit on the sidelines ignoring the game. You'd be watching and PROBABLY playing along!

We're all merely players in this game.

Just found a simple way to get to the comments faster. It's most likely common to Blogger, but I hadn't really noticed it before. If you click on the date under the topic header (the date to the right of POSTED AT), you'll get all of the comments without the images. Sure it strips away the avatars, but with 400-600+ comments that can be a good thing. Most of the oldtimers probably already knew this. I pass this on to the newbies or others like me who really didn't notice it before.

If it was obvious, then it would have had a big flashing light saying "Click Here".

So, we know that the island has apparently given some people that which they thought they desired most: Locke can walk, Rose is cured, Hurley is desired by a woman (a stretch i guess...but maybe applicable).

The question stands then what did Vincent "Wally" Bole desire most? To BE what he worshiped...a yellow lab

Poof...you're a yellow lab.

he was in Australia the day of the crash and solidified ties with THF the day before. maybe they said "hey, want to be a Lab for real? Do this for us and you can be."

Do we know where Vincent (the dog came from). I can't remember..didn't he just wander out of the jungle and we ASSUMED he was on the plan and survived?

Wally is supposed to be fake.

Are you all not realizing that the dog site is a front for the hacker's forum? Read my previous posts please. Wally's face may be photoshoped just like the Julia Child chef picture and also each labrador picture because it's a "fake" site. There is no more meaning in the front sight other than the clues leading Porter to get us to the real substance.

It would be best to spend our efforts picking apart what is being talked about in the ROT forum.
