Clue #49 - Persephone (16.5) Retrievers of Truth & More!
We received reports of a new Hanso ad appearing on the ABC show Boston Legal with a link to the site called Retrievers of Truth at the end. In addition to revealing the new website on the Hanso commercial, "Retrievers of Truth" was handed to us on the IGA page of the Hanso site. When Persephone's countdown (from Clue #48) ran out, there was a noticeable change to the IGA page. Parts of the Mutant Cell/Normal Cell comparison began flashing and, if you put the cursor over the circles, you will see the words "Retrievers of Truth" appear on the chest x-ray.
If you go to this site and enter your email address for the newsletter sign up, you will receive a rather random message with many odd words. One of those words was "porter". If you go back to the Retrievers of Truth page and enter "porter" in as your email address, you will be taken to a secret Verizon employee message board.
Amongst the many interesting and relevent discussions listed in that message board, you will find a reference to a site: www.richerdeeperbroader.com, which is a Verizon site. If you view the source code for that site, you will see an arrow pointing to the word "Parthenogenesis". This is the password that must be entered on the IGA site in a hidden textbox to the right of the "Education Outreach experiments at the Institute for Genomic Advancement" description of the image. Entering this will take you to a series of pictures with a clear reference to the Dharma Initiative.

We should start investigating every thread in that forum. Anyone find something revealing in the Source Code? Although I wouldn't expect something that obvious, however. I think our greatest clues may lie in the content itself, or at least somewhere "new" that we don't conventionally search for in a website.
They appear to be like a forum that is studying the Lost Experience...mentioning how if you call the hotline you get "Breaking Strain", and how teh newsletter "hacks" the site, as well as watching Hugh on Kimmel. Except for the people posting, the Hanso Foundation is a REAL "evil corporation" in their world.
Also tehy appear to be working in the Hanso Foundation headquarters. They mention how Mittelwerk walked by their desk. I think it's better for me to just tell you to read every thread.
Some other possibilities - they are the people who created the "dog site", just as a distraction for their real activities?
They are all obviously Anti-Hanso. "DSLerator" is interested in a conspiracy theory about them.

The dogs don't matter. The site is there so that you can type "porter" in the newsletter box and get to the hidden board. The rest is really just there to throw you off.

An observation on the international-ness of TLE... unfortunately the sponsors may be the problem here... the first Hanso ad had no refernce to a real-world company did it? So no conflict with US and international sponsors. But these later ones? We haven't seen another add, and unless there is a change I don't think we will.
The Ninja book drop was I guess a move in the right direction, but other than a message from the Ninja and marked text there wasn't much else to it was there? Maybe they should have had someone from Hanso show up and make a scene... and make a news segment out of it!!!

I have seen that. Clearing cache files or cookies may work but I just closed the browser and went back to the site again and it worked fine again.
patch it seems to do that if you have recently "logged in" with porter. If you wait an hour or so (not sure how long, btu as a ball park figure) you should be able to go back to the original version of the site
patch, I'm up at 6 normally any way, so yeah... I'll be here, there and everywhere. Might even get on a bit earlier just in case

To get back to the Dog Site after having gone through the "Porter" password, just delete or add on the "www." It's the same issue with some people not seeing the new clues and their cache... just backwards this time.

Do you get the feeling that the creators of the Lost Experience are watching us to obtain feedback or to play off of our speculations? The Retrievers of Truth seems to have a lot of similarities with fan boards and blogs like this one. That may just be their way of recognizing the fan base. It could also be an attempt to pass on misinformation based off of our own speculation.
When we speculate, I'd say we'd be lucky to be 10-20% accurate. If our speculation is almost dead-on, then it starts to become something that is too good to be true.
This may seem paranoid, but I think we would be wise to scrutinize all potential clues for the possibility of misinformation.

Just found a simple way to get to the comments faster. It's most likely common to Blogger, but I hadn't really noticed it before. If you click on the date under the topic header (the date to the right of POSTED AT), you'll get all of the comments without the images. Sure it strips away the avatars, but with 400-600+ comments that can be a good thing. Most of the oldtimers probably already knew this. I pass this on to the newbies or others like me who really didn't notice it before.
If it was obvious, then it would have had a big flashing light saying "Click Here".

I've been looking for other hidden nuggets, and there is a hidden Dharma link at the end of the active projects page. It's just the Swan Orientation video, but there are some different camera angles.

Well, at least Thrasher has SOMETHING to ease his pain until this countdown clock winds down. As far as this advertising thing goes, I just rolled my eyes at the Verizon site this morning. Was it wrong of me to have not bothered to click on anything? Probably. There could be something ARG related like in the last Sublymonal update. I did notice one intereting thing about that one, though. When you type Persephone in and it begins to tell you about the mythology there is a line prominately displayed that says "Persephone had no stable position at Olympus". Coincidence or are they trying to tell us something? As an aside, I do really hate the Sprite commercials these days. They're just...dumb.

Hi guys. I made it back in time. This site is so slow. Almost unusable.
Anyway.
When I got onto my PC someone had installed firefox so I went to view the Hanso Site with this. Went to get the countdown but when I hit the link (screen flashed I think) then everything disappeared except the three circles in the background. The hidden link to move circles was there too. The background sound was of birds chirping like in a wood or something. I do not remember the sound but it probably plays somewhere else on the site. These pictures were flashing showed some distortion (background snow effect) before I clicked the link. I notice that they do not have this interference in Internet Explorer. Anything in it. And has anyone else experienced this? Is this the site updated. Time was about an hour and a half or more before timer got to 0.
I had to close page to get out of it. I could not get this back. I am back to Internet Explorer now (I hate Firefox, always have despite having used it many times) and all seems back to normal.
When I tried to post it was 1.5hrs away from countdown reaching 0. If I get the comments page at all the letters verification pic to enter comments is never there.

I can't believe it. Hanso have finally come up with a list of official clues so far and how they were MEANT to be found. See here. It came from the ROT forum page. Inside I have been crying out for one of these. And it will be updated. Not too quickly I hope as that means that everybody would know the password(s) before trying to work them out (they always seem to get worked out straight away anyway) Probably old news but I loved this find. (apart from, does it suggest that everything else we have worked on, although interesting, holds no importance to the game at all but just gives us insights into where Hanso is coming from (like getting to know the characters in the show) I guess though that as I have mentioned earlier, this knowledge will make things more fun later. That is why the work being done here is so important. Most sites seem to stick pretty closely to the clue at hand but we go the whole way. This new research blog should hopefully aid in the quest to "Find out all there is to know about Hanso and associated Don't know. just thinking aloud really. I will stop there.

The reason they get "solved" right away is people are cheating and decompling the flash code and looking for the password in the ActionScript.
I sent a message to "The Speaker" that they need to start encrypting thier SWF files.
BTW, anyone think that Blogger.com went down because of The Lost Experience? :) I noticed the comments stopped working right when the timer ran out.

I see. I should have guessed that passwords would come up in decompiling the flash. Bummer. I see where belly0fdesire gets his niggles about it from. Still I think TPTB should be more careful. Encryption would be a way to go. I am sure someone could crack it but it would buy us time.
I wonder if it possible to mention when these major clues come out (about once a week it seems) NOT to mention the password if it was found elsewhere other you truly working the clue out. (I am not getting at anyone. I know all too well how easy it is to want to tell something not been mentioned in the forum what you have found). Maybe it couldn't work but I like the idea of brainstorming a clue together properly. Like we do when digging up Hanso stuff.
Maybe we should have a dedicated blog on this site (outside of this main blog) for when clues come up and those wishing to pursue it together properly can. Seems feasable. It would be pointed out that "cheating" in this particular forum is not allowed as it would spoil for those who want to play properly.

I know that pursuing clues in own blog was meant to be the idea of this site but as there is so much more to say I feel that they need their own special slots. I like the idea. It makes me look forward to the next REAL clue more than I did this one. (a bit of a let down really due to coming across all the posts telling password. Once I know I just can't help myself.

Okay, I have read through this thread (although admittedly not thoroughly), and I didn't see mention of this. On the emri.perception.net page, through active projects, the first link, for the Life Extension Project, opens to a press release. If you click the bottom of the press release, it jumbles all of the access denied messages for the other links, and opens a text box with a submit button. Does anyone know if this leads anything, and what the password is?

I'm not sure if someone else has mentioned this at any other time but the shark has actually been on the show before, dharma logo and all. One of my friends noticed it during the episode where the Michael and the guys take off on the raft. I think it is when Sawyer is in the water that there is a close up of the shark, and if you pause it, you'll notice the dharma logo.

I may just need to spend more time there. It just seems like a complex/scientific word to get from a verizon telecom site.

It's a form of reproduction that doesn't require any involvement form the male of the species... not sure yet how this will play into the game, but it's a password for now... I'm sure, of course, that we are supposed to research this like everything else and not just think of it as another password.... time will tell
I'm not at all disappointed in the clue today. It did have us wait through the countdown for it, but this is the first direct tie-in with the show, other than the strange images of Marvin Candle, that we have seen in the game so far. We actually saw the island and the shark that was seen in the episode that is re-airing tonight. This is awesome. The game is going to take a very favorable turn, and people can put to rest their doubts of the game and the show being related.

I was starting to worry that Hanso was counter hacking this website. Fortunatly there were other places to turn for the info. Apparently you can find parthenogenesis by googling japanese mouse and mother (or was it father) which were mentioned on the new site retrievers of truth. The password for that site you can find from the message sent to you if you join the mailing list (providing the mail doesn't get routed to your spam box).
Not a lot of info to go on, but it's seems persephone is validating DJ Dan. Interesting it's the full Dharma logo, not like the shark in the show but exactly like DJ Dans. I guess this is the distinction between Game reality and show reality. It suggests the makers of lost had a source of info on the shark and worked it into the show. Nice.

Parthenogenesis is pretty interesting stuff. It is a form of asexual reproduction. Many different species use it to reproduce. Basically what happens is that the female produces an egg that doesn't need to be fertilized by a sperm. It develops on its own. Maybe the most interesting case of parthenogenesis in vertebrates is its occurence in many species of whiptail lizards that live mostly in the southwest. They have all female populations but still simulate sex to achieve maximum fertility. Very strange. One possible downside to parthenogenesis is that all of a females offspring are identical or almost identical to her. So if she is susceptible to some kind of disease or something, it can wipe out her and all of her kids, their kids' kids, etc. It sounds like that dude on the Retrievers of Truth site may have been produced this way. Not quite sure how all this may fit in but the biodork in me is excited to find out...

This may be nothing, but I looked up "parthenogenesis" on wiki and on that info page, down towards the bottom, is a link that says " see also:Gregory Goodwin Pincus" who seems to be the co-inventor of the contraceptive pill. His first break in his work was when he was able to do invitro in rabbits in 1934. It also says "His experiments involving parthenogenesis produced a rabbit that appeared on the cover of Look magazine in 1937 and led to his dismissal from Harvard University." I thought this was just *really* interesting considering the character Goodwin of the others.
What do you all think? AM I grasping too much?

I said that decompiling the flash is cheating... we are intended to look at source code, which is how we know about Persephone's "standby"... but we ARE NOT intended to decompile flash files to get passwords and hidden images that we were never intended to see..
we could have also gotten parthenogenesis by searching for japanese mouse on google... but looking at the HTML source code isn't considered cheating...
I'm honestly no longer going to judge what is cheating and what is not cheating. Wizardry was righ earlier when he said that TPTB should be putting more effort into locking down their SWF files, but we shouldn't pat anyone on the back for decompiling flash, which anyone could learn to do in 10 minutes... meh...

I don't think viewing the source code of the HTML files is not cheating - there have been several clues/hints/etc delivered this way. It's very easy for anyone to view the HTML source code, just select "view source" in your browser.
However, what some ^evil^ people are doing is "Decompiling" or hacking the flash files that make up the Hanso site. I think this IS cheating, because it is not something that 99.99% of people would be able to do.
The flash files contain all the images, text, and code for the web pages. They are just looking in the code for where the password is checked and posting in the forums. This method involves NO problem solving skills, but will get you a shout-out from David for being the first to "solve" the clue.
The whole thing is then solved in reverse. Start with the password, then find somewhere that has the password. I think this is how most of the clues have been solved lately.

From that distance it is way too vague and when you blow the pic up it gets way too pixelated to make anything out. You may be right but I'm not able to make anything like that out.

It seems to me that on alot of the clues there have been numerous different paths that could have been taken to receive the needed answer/clue/password. Alot of people are just taking the easy and obvious way out by decompiling the flash and in some cases checking the source code. Googling, reading between the lines, anagraming, etc. etc. is alot more tedious, but could be alot more fulfilling to those of us that actually want to "play" rather than wanting to be recognized or just wanting to know the end result.

It looks like the top to a martial arts uniform though I don't think it's white. My husband calls it a "gui" (sp?) The neck of the jacket where it comes together in the front looks too high to be a labcoat. It also looks to me like it kind of wraps around or crosses over in the front.

You don't really need to know HTML to find something in the source code. Usually it's something obvious and plain text like on the Sublymonal site:

There MAY be another way to find the password besides looking in the HTML ... but one of the problems with the cheating is that people stop looking for clues. The "The Mouth Piece" clue has several different places where you could find the password.

If you're keen on this kind of research, I believe you may find something of interest to Hanso Foundation in the myth of Kaguya-hime. I'm starting to pull it together myself but it will take a little more time and correct observations before I can announce it... if I do at all. TPTB are watching, after all.

I find interesting the links between parthenogenesis and stem cell research - in the USA, parthenogenesis is one of the types of research banned by the federal government, despite the fact that parthenogenetic embryos / stem cells would eradicate the need to harvest such material from foetuses. I just watched the Season 2 season finale, and Kelvin/Calvin's suit doesn't have a logo on it, though Desmond's jumpsuit does. But, the guy with the shark doesn't seem to have either the quarantine suit or a jumpsuit on. It's a jacket of some sort. though it does look like he's wearing a hood as well as something over his face.
And, then again, [I don't know if I've been staring at it for too long/if I want it to be this] it looks as if the person could be female? Like I said, I could be looking at it for too long, or wanting it to be, but it kind of looks like there's some bust in the chest.

My friend watched the tivo version of the last season finale back before new years. He told me he had slown it down and zoomed in and the sharks that surround the raft all contained Dharma logos on them, so I think maybe this clue is just making that clue already given in the show a bit more visible to those who did not catch it?

it's a matter of this: if you access it using thw www from the beginning, then you have to use it for all the clues... if you didn't use it from the beginning, then you need to NOT use it for all clues... consistency is the key to this issue... as long as you consistently log on using the same address, you shouldn't have any issue... it has to be the same addres that you put your log on to the newsletter on...

The Logo on the shark..the Swan Logo..is a different looking logo then the other Swan Logos we have seen on doors, items , etc. Yes, I know, Im talking from TV show and arguments have been made to keep this seperate..but something like this and other events I believe have linked the two loosely. I haven't heard anyone mention that there have been sharks in the new over the last few years because it is suspected that they reproduced via parthenogenesis. (A simple google search of parthenogenesis+shark will pull up these articles.) It could be that theh ovaries were taken so that they could be harvested. If the sharks were genetically engineered to begin with, then being able to make copies of them without cloning them would be a nice advantage. I know that there are some instances of growing human organs inside of genetically modified animals, but they could be taking this so many ways. I'm looking forward to seeing where they go with it. I'll keep up the research so we're ready.

Have we already established that the shark may be fake in some way. Reexamine the skin flaps, especially the ones on the right? It folds and has definite wrinkles, sort of like what happens when you quickly rip open a Christmas present. Excuse me for assuming, but I'm pretty sure that skin does not tear and fold like a covering, which is what we are seeing on the shark. In addition, the dharma logo appears to be faded. If it was a tattoo on the shark we wouldnt see that fading. It clearly looks like it was stamped on like you would do for a product like a robot.
Please tell me that I'm at least onto something :-)

At best, the BIG REVEAL was that we as a community are nuts. We're high on the LOST Experience, and what better way to heal a drunk man than to kick him between the legs? Knock him into his senses.
We've known the tv show was tied in ever since it was mentioned on the Jimmy Kimmel interview with Hugh McIntyre. He lied about everything, and one thing said was that the show is made up. Thus, if he is consistent, it was a lie. So, LOST, as part of The LOST Experience, is real. (not to mention all the past references to the crash of Flight 815) So, LOST is part of the Lost Experience. We get it.
Maybe that was what this was; to remind the Hanso crazy masses that this is the -LOST- Experience. Not the "Stick It to the Man" Internet Hippies Brigade.
Anyway, the countdown was shoddy and unpersephone-like. The message that came after the countdown was unpersephone-like. We didn't hear her voice once in this one saying some snide remark about how Hanso likes kicking puppies. -That- was unpersephone-like.
See where I'm going with this?
The Speaker is even not calling it a message from Persephone. He said it was from Persephone, "or maybe not, we don't know". Come on. -That- was unpersephone-like.
She is a woman of branding. Boastful of her skill and no Sprite sponsor. I heard her say a racial slur about Lymon once. I mean, -that- is how hardcore she is.
So, no Persephone. No true clue.

What I actually see is a palm tree on an island. Look at the wavy base of the image, sort of sand-like. The swan logo is almost flush with the bottom of the circle. Then follow the tree trunk up to the left and then over to the right where there seems to be leaves, unlike the single head area of the swan.
If you don't see it, just stop and think about how much sense the swan STATION logo does not make on a shark. (unsupported conclusion, i know)

As far as the parthenogenesis stuff. I can tell you that when you write science, it is very typical (haha, see?) to use qualifying words like "typically". The reason for this is that a negative result doesn't prove anything. In other words, just because you haven't seen a male in a population does not mean it can't happen. It might just be very rare, and you haven't come across it yet.
To know for sure if this is why they are using the word "typically", you'd have to hunt around to see if you can find an example of a male in a parthenogenic population.

Holy mackeral, I remember reading that book a couple years ago. The golden retriever was super-intelligent and could even communicate in English if given the proper method.
I remember that the monster/creature was murderous and especially hated eyes; it ripped the eyes out of everything it came across; the monster was also sentient.

To me, they almost look computer generated. That man in the first shot, REALLY looks computer made.
The guys at ROT are into webdesign, maybe couple of them are into graphics HUMMMMM??
Also, one more thing about this. During the change of scenes, did anyone take note that there was a blast like sound? I am almost sure that sounded like the season fanale when the blast thing happened and that bright light and MAJOR sound got to everyone!! That same bright light can also be seen in this too!

I have been following the game for about a week now and have devoted an enormous amount time to Lost since I started watching it last Wednesday. I watched both complete seasons this week.
Anyway, I think I have a little insight. Having lived in Asia (Taiwan) for 5 years, I have noticed a huge amount of Eastern philosophy and religion injected into the series. Here's a brief list:
-Namaste
-The Hanso Foundation Logo (Yin-Yang)
-The Dharma Initiative Logo excluding the middile station symbol. When I lived in San Francisco, I noticed that many Chinese families have this hung above their door. Of course, there was not a station symbol, but a mirror.
-Last night's ROT email continuously mentioned of searching for the "word", sometimes it seemed to be "world" purposefully misspelled (no "l"). Daoism frequently refers to searching for the "word", too.
As for the symbol on today's shark, I am hesitant to deem it the "Sea Station" because the part you (m2saint) outlined as a jellyfish goes well into what was the solid-white border of all other sybols. I do agree that it isn't the Swan symbol. The palm tree on the beach seems pretty plausible.

Yeah, I see what you mean, but it does pretty obviously look like a jellyfish. Though, I admit it would be a bit unique from the other symbols to be so intricate. Regardless, I could see the lower jellyfish just being a third leaf on the seaweed.
So, I believe that it is starting to show that this is evidently a true new symbol, as it doesn't look like the Swan, Arrow, or Flame. It is the new Sea Station.

In my blur of excitement I spammed on and on about the irc channel on the blog. I just wanted the Admins and the locals (you know who you are!! :) to know that I only started the channel as an accutrement to the teamwork here. It is by no means an attempt to cease conversation here. I'd turn my computer off first!
There are far to many realtime channels and forums that are just ugly and unfriendly. I just created a space for blogspot folks to chat real time and kick around a clue or two before posting. We had some fun last night I must say.

Yeah, the code isn't anything unusual. It's probably for part of the codes for the many high tech (to say the least) parts of the site. I'll run it by some other people and see what they think though. Whered you get that code from?
ANd everyone, It is NOT the swan. And the dog thing...like someone already said, a result of staring at the picture for too long.
I don't think the shark is real though. I think it is a kind of animatronic gizmo thingamajig. (don't you just love my super smart sounding lingo?) Think about it, that kind of a shot wouldn't leave a pattern such as that unless it's NOT skin...even for sharks. Besides, shark skin doesn't peel off like that.
And the Dharma logo on the shark looks more like the Lochness Monster than a swan. *Gasp* What if it is ol' Nelly? I mean come on, that would explain.....absolutely nothing....

at thelostexperience.com, there was a post regarding ROT where they pointed out a couple of interesting insights: the yellow lab in the photo looks much like walt's dog vincent. vincent is also the ROT man in charge's name. coincidence? most likely. but it keeps us talking and looking.
are the cells on the genomic page always shimmer or is this new?
finally going back to my original thought, that they are somehow tying in elements of the experience with the show, introducing a new station (the sea station) could be a way of giving us a special preview of what is coming up this fall. maybe it's our reward for staying faithful to the experience all summer.

On the blast door, only the Pearl (marked '?'), the Arrow, the Staff, the Swan, and the Flame are marked with a name. We have already seen all of them but the Flame in the show. Man, that was a lot to catch up on. Sorry I missed all the fun last night, but 2 weeks of sleep deprevation finally caught up to me. Here's what I've got to say about everything so far... may not be worth much, just my 2 cents. (sorry if I don't put any direct replies, just too much to go through)
1. Shark skin is more "leathery" than human skin. The peeling back seen in the photo is not uncommon, especially if it's been sitting in the sun for any amount of time. Just like cleaning a fish, once a cut has been made, the skin can be peeled back relatively easily.
2. I think any images made out of the sharks exposed wound is like trying to get everyone to agree that a Rorschach ink blot looks the same as they see. I don't believe that there is anything to see in the wound.
3. The background of the shark photo looks so have a loose column of smoke (possibly a show tie-in to the smoke on the island) which begins about where some have seen a "vessel". See my previous comment about the ink blot test...
4. The logo on the shark from DJDan and the one in our latest clue don't seem to match. DJDan's is on the tail, our clue is further up the body (right?). The logo on the shark from the show (screen caps a-plenty out there) is also on the tail.
6. ROT cover site is about yellow Laborador Retrievers and the doctor's name there is Vincent - I believe this was intentional to elude to Vincent the dog on the show, but doesn't give us any insight into how it would be used.
These are all IMHO, and I'm sure there were more at some point that I wanted to cover, but lost track. I think we may have more luck trying to find out how all of our players relate: Persephone, DJDan, ROT Crew, and even ourselves. Are we being played by one or more of these folks? Are they at odds with one-another, or cooperating? Are they all one-in-the same?

OK, my theory on the shark is: The sharkis from the "sea hatch" (Thanks Triple-T) is made of metal and washed up by the magnetic waves after John didn't push the button in the season finale. THe skin is peeled back B/C the metal is covered with a fake skin that could come right off. It is NOT the same shark as the one Michael shot. (for it does not have the same brand.)

Jade you're a little scattered but I get the gist of what you are saying. The ROT site is a front for the ROT forum. The pictures and some of the stories are jokes, but there are some clues such as porter. If you are worthy, and computer savvy they ROT group is welcome to have you listen in on their forum.
As far as the shark having a sea lab symbol, please give it up. TTT can you recant your theory in favor of an easier explanation for it rather than seeing a scene from the Little Mermaid in a Dharma logo?
It is either a palm tree, a warped swan logo, or something that we will find out about later...

Okay, so I realize that I haven't been blogging that long, so I don't mean to ruffle any feathers, but I don't see the dog or the sub - I think you guys are barking up the wrong periscope. I'm also against the robot shark idea. It's original, but it completely negates the parthenogenesis clue. I'm pretty sure that's one thing robots don't do.
As far as the skin of the shark is concerned, I've cut open a couple myself and that is pretty much what it looks like. It looks and feels like rubber, and it pulls back that way. I don't think there is anything to that.
I do like the sea hatch idea and the comments on the logo, but I wouldn't be splitting hairs over the exactness of the lines in the image of the logo. Remember, the people that posted this are the same ones that used a free timer they pulled of the web. They're lazy and they're sloppy. I'll take the quality of the logo with a grain of salt.
And finally, about the decompiling the flash issue. Let's not forget who we are up against. This is ABC/Disney; they have virtually unlimited resources. If they don't want us finding their clues so easily, than they should hide them better. I'm not going to shed any tears are impart any sympathy to them because we are currently better than them at their own game. Keep looking at the flash...make them step it up a knotch if they don't like it.
That's enough for now. Feel free to disagree...I have a thick, shark-like skin; I can take it.

I'm sure you guys have already noticed thice on Institute for Genomic Advancement page, if you place the mouse arrow on the two Red "Mutant Cell" you can see "Retrievers" and "Of" on the X-ray pic plus if you place the arrow
on teh top most Green-Red cell in the next pic - "Truth" is visible in the X-Ray pic.

I completely Agree! This does not at all appear to be from Persephone. Her clues usually have actual files or pictures as evidence as well as witty, sarcastic one-liners. The shark picture was obviously computer generated. (as Lena also suggested) The water had that fake jello look to it.

I find this interesting too. Stem cell research/harvesting is used in gene therapy...which is basically a way to heal diseases and afflictions by taking healthy DNA and using it to replace unhealthy DNA. There are even theories that stem cells can be used to grow an entire body to harvest organs and limbs from.
4. On the wikipedia connection..I think the game makers use this site because it is one they can actually add to and it is widely known among a wide range of web users. If they give us a clue on say primates..and they wanted us to know that a specific breed of primates is found in only one location of the world....they can go in and edit the wikipedia entry to contain the data they want us to learn. It gives them a little more control over how quickly we can pick up the clues if we are floundering.

I had read somewhere about some people believing that memories of our ancestors are written in our DNA and that they can be accessed via dreams and spiritual guidance...so that was my first thought on how this tied in with the genomic research page...but that doesnt seem to be the case. The word given to the DSL dude on the ROT board was "you"...so I wonder where that is going to fit in with waking dream..?

Vincent Wally Bole: Yes his name is Vincent, but his middle name is Wally, which can be a nickname for Walter. Walt can also be a shortened version of Walter. Something to think about.
The Shark: We all saw the shark photos on DJDan's website. But DJDan is a corporate whore, and we're all not so sure he can be trusted. Now add to this that the shark clue we just got is questionable because it may not be Persephone (after all, she was threatened in a previous clue). So maybe the whole shark thing is bogus.
Retrievers of Truth: Thinking strictly in-game here, think about this site. It was advertised in a commercial (my mother saw one air during her ABC soaps, although I've not yet seen it). If this commercial was put up by the Hanso foundation, and the forum on that site led us to parthenogenesis which led us to a possibly bogus clue, could the entire thing (sharks, ROT, and the timer) have been a ploy to throw us off completely? Consider ALL of the questionable sources here.
Strictly out of game: I've been amazed more than once at the different mediums the creators of this game are using to make it happen, between television, the internet, and print. With all of the different sites and codes and clues, does the game stop there? Has anyone considered the creators of the game could be sending us trolls, researchers, and codebreakers, just to move us along? Imagine we all got caught on a really difficult puzzle. Could the game move on on their end if we couldn't solve the current clue? Not all that easily, if they want to lead us in a particular direction.
So how many of the major cluefinders on this blog alone really know each other? Who could be under ABC's payroll, making sure the game moves along smoothly? And could any potential trolls here now and possibly in the future come about so that other bloggers unite against a common enemy and strengthen the community this game has created? It's just a thought.

I know I don't post much here. And this is probably grasping at straws (which we seem to have a lot of at this point) But on the sublymonal site (see note below) I went and entered shark. I of course got the wikipedia definition but I noticed that shark pictures started popping up on the tv screens. I tested this theory by clearing my computer and starting over. The sharks are not in the rotation of pictures to begin with.
Note. I am adding this note as just a different take on the sublymonal site. I only keep researching it because the clock on the hanso site still changes. We really don't know when or if they will use it again.
Can anyone get a screen shot of these sharks. One picture is of a swarm if that's what you call it but if you keep watching there will be a picture of a single one.
If you think this is nothing just ignore my and I will go back to my wallflower posistion :-)

Just to put in my own little observation, anyone check out the fly on the shark? It looks a bit Drosophila like, and maybe this is too much genetics homework coming out, but Drosophila is one of the main model organisms for genetic research, and we got to the shark from the genomic advancement project... Maybe that's information to tuck away for later?
Or of course, maybe it's just there because a dead wounded shark would have flies on it :)

Aylakat, I happen to know that guys that run this site, and I can assure you that they're normal guys working on the clues just like you with no help from ABC. I'd love to see the game get so complicated that we needed help, but it isn't there yet. They aren't giving us enough clues to be helping us run through them like we are; they would be dragging each clue out a bit more. The clues really haven't been that hard to handle.
mereuil, One of my majors was genetics and I'm right there with you on the Drosophila. I already had it stored away. I'm keeping track of just that sort of thing in case it comes in handy. Glad to see someone is right there with me. You also might want to look into the shark's pretty impressive immune system. That could prove useful information as well.

Desmond's girl is Persephone. She's connected to the corporations involved, has an axe to grind apparently, and has illustrated that she has hired geeks looking for electromagnetism hotspots...wouldn't be much surprise if she was the one exposing hanso as a villain. But the way Lost works is to get you leaning one way and then throw a curve that is teh most unexpected thing you could think of...like when all is said and done, Hanso is the hero of the whole Lost series.

1. SUbmarine image: on the close up what I think is being pointed at is not a sub, but a shipwreck turned on its side so we are seeing the deck of the ship. Maybe not.
2.If P didn't create this clue, we have to be careful about it. It's correct, she has a specific style about her that this does not have.
3. I don't think its related to the dog folks. From the postings they have them seem a little too nervous to do something like hack Hanso itself.
4.If the pictures are from the island, how did they get to "us." Or did this shark wash up somewhere else (Desmond mentioned he should be in Fiji since he ran away so maybe thats where it washed up at.)
5.I'm not sure we should discredit the authenticity of the shark logo. Sure it doesn't have the accuracy of the logos on the show. But have any of us tried to paint a logo on a shark before?
6. Don't have the shark episode handy. Can someone check to see if the sharls are all teh same species?
Sorry so long, but lots of questions for my first post.

They got one up and running on pop.thehansofoundation.org on port 110 and I thought at first it was a real server not part of the game until I received the quit message "Better luck next time" (all you computer bods go telnet the server and you'll see what I mean).
So far you can use anything as a username it's just finding the password (assuming at this point this IS a valid part of the game AND it's active).

So, I was looking at the t9agen75.gif picture and I noticed something... This something leads me to believe that our "clues" are being fed to us when the game creators wish... There are two different versions of this pic. The one that was posted and then removed almost immediately, and the one that is up now. The one that was orignally posted and the one that is up now at hole3 are different in that the D2O clue is not in the original posted pic. But it is there in the one up now...
Maybe a mistake by the game creators in which they forgot to put in the clue then realized it and took it down almost immediately, and posted the correct one... or could just be they are feeding us the clues by posing as regular board members...

If you look closely the alcove at the cave where the vessel/structure is inside (submarine)you can see a framed structure the surrounds the perimeter of the opening. This is to straight NOT to be man made. The above pic has been updated to make it more visible.

Incidentally, the emri.perception.net is the orginal Hanso website. The first time we saw Hanso Foundation in the show I googled it and poof! Up popped this site with all the access disabled for the most part. Maybe someone kept it or ABC wasn't ready to let it go. Seems to me that it was the original concept for the Hanso Site (maybe before the game was conceived or as some kind of prototype) although maybe more similar to the Oceanic Airlines website from last year. Just a thought ...

We made the decision to list this as a separate clue due to how different the access instructions and the results are from clue #48 even though they are accessed via the same page.
To view this new clue, go to the Institute for Genomic Advancement page on the Hanso website and click on the invisible textbox just below the picture of the scientists. Then type in the word "parthenogenesis" and press enter. You're greeted with pictures of a dark figure, some wooded areas, a beach, and a shark corpse with a Dharma logo on its skin.
Any speculations on where the game will take us now that the Dharma Project has been so prominently introduced? This alternate reality just got a lot more interesting...
