Clue #50 - Persephone (17) Hole 4 & Mental Health

Persphone's message portal, persephone.thehansofoundation.org was updated with new numbers translating into a new message reading "+1 timeless together". Naturally, check for a hole4 and you'll find that there is a new picture up at hole4.thehansofoundation.org. The file name is u8egnce86.gif.

Also, the Mental Health Appeal page has been updated (click RSS at the bottom of the Hanso site to see the update). There is an "Inquire Today" box which leads to another Persephone hack. The password was found by "Just Willow" and posted in the comments over at Inside the Experience. Here is how it was discovered:

The file names for Hole 2, 3, & 4 are: q9als2002,t9agen75, and u8egnce86. Persephone's message, Timeless Together, was understood to be a clue that we should take away the time or the dates from these sequences and then put the rest together. So, if you take away 2002/75/86 from the file names, you are left with "q9alst9agenu8egnce" and if you change the numbers to letters (9=i and 8=h) you get "qialstiagenuhegnce" which is an anagram for "light sequence again".

By typing that into the box, you'll find a letter related to the Vik Institute and a neat memory game that gives us clues about the "Department of Heuristics and Research Material Applications"....D.H.A.R.M.A.

Play the random Memory Game (it will drive you crazy). I got to 45 and gave up after that...had to get back to work....Wondering why I never got my Apollo bar at 42? CHEERS to "Idaho Girl"! She made it all the way up to 108 in the "Simon" memory game and confirmed for us that...NOTHING HAPPENS! (See the comments for Clue #51)

Thanks to Chad, Evil, Dennis, Rod, Rich, Justin, DH, Dave for being the first to email us this info.
Thanks to Just Willow for the password (and to pharmacopaia & julie for passing it on) and to Idaho Girl for having the discipline to make it to 108

definitely what I typed... I'm going to close the window & try again... anyway, a couple of things:

apologies if this is super old. But clicking the blank white corner of the box in the upper left hand side of the screen, below the mha logo, also brings up the vik inst. "tell us about yourself" box. interesting.

also, I haven't seen it on any blogs or discussion boards, but DHARMA greatly resembles DARPA, the US' Department of Defense crazy research arm. and I do mean crazy. the stuff they're coming up with is truly frightening - and that's just the stuff the public *knows* about. They also happen to have a "humanitarian" branch whose aims sound quite similar to hanso's. They visit "failed states" and make nice with the natives. (Ummm.... but I definitely don't know anybody who works for them and I certainly don't know anything about what I just wrote, nope, not me, don't know a thing... :) ) Personally, I suspect it's the latest paramilitary neocolonialist move, ie, we'll build you a hospital if you let the CIA camp out here for a while and don't tell anyone.

Anyway, not exactly a clue but does have to do with the knid of stuff the LOST creators might be thinking of. And something all of us should keep in the back of our minds. Not to sound like DJ Dan, but it's not what's on the news that scares me, it's what isn't.

Crossfade, Unfortunately we don't think it would be wise or productive to give over 100 people (around 105 "applicants") access to one blog. So not everyone will get an invitation to post. Of course...everyone is welcome to comment on the contributors' posts (as usual). I was thinking more along the lines of 10 or so contributors. So far, based on what we've seen in individuals through emails & comments, we have narrowed the field down to about 30. It's a very difficult task but we're wrestling with it as best we know how.

Hi all. Big hmm here. Together does suggest now is the time to try and find links betweent he holes, no idea about timeless. Or of course it could just be an anagram or code. The picture itself is interesting too because hole2 was made up of verticle lines and hole4 is made up of horizontal ones. Hole3 was just blury and we know it had a hint in it for something else. So perhaps it is just about using hole2 and 4 together. Unless of course it's reference to the names only in which case what is pic 4 (and 2 for that matter about).

I've already flushed it through my pic-sound program and this one doesn't sound like much (although I've still to turn it around and try other angles). But I'm gonna eat now so will check back in a bit.

Hi, I need some help from the molecular biologists in the house.
If you combine (suggested at ITE)

q9als2002.gif (from hole2)
- t9agen750.gif (from hole3)
- u8egnce86.gif (from hole4)
you get numbers and : equals Ngene AT GC

AT and GC are base pairs for DNA
Persephone’s Timeless’ could refer to Timeless gene (hTM1)
See article:
http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2003/10/031017073732.htm

has to do with circadian rhythms
Can anyone do anything with this ?

I think the "timeless together" refers to Hanso's picture and this newest pic. It probably means they are both in the same predicament..or the same thing happened to both of them..whether it be that they are dead and someone else is acting in their place at the Hanso Foundation...or they've been altered someway with the Foundations genetic experiments. I think the 86 stands for the "incident". The word "gene" can be found in the picture title and if you spell out the number 8, you get genetic huge...but that's about all I can make of it.

frenchie, I like where you are going with it and there may be something to this timeless gene idea, but the equals Ngene AT GC seems a bit generic and I don't know what Ngene would mean. Circadian rhythms refer the the 24 hour cycle your body goes through, so this would have more with making a body lose its sense of time throughtout the day (like knowing when to sleep or eat) than it would have to do with anti-aging (Joop). I have been running through the anagrams of the letters from the three hole pictures, even adding in hole to the mix. Nothing has jumped out at me yet, but I'll keep looking. Keep up the great work.

That sucked.

I've been thinking we may be onto something with the genetic stuff. There are genes called "timeless" and have to do with circadian rhythms as stated before. Remember that Persephone said she was on "no sleep"? There is some info about human and mouse clocks I'm looking into at the moment. Maybe that will bear fruit...

oh, "X" and "Y" are most often utilized in reference to chromosomes. All eukaryotic organisms (basically everything alive that isn't bacteria or a virus) have long strings of DNA called chromosomes. Chromosomes are made up of DNA. portions of DNA code for specific proteins. These are called genes.

The human genome is thought to contain more than 20,000 genes (though we're still not exactly sure yet because many times a gene's expression is tied to another gene's expression and there is quite a bit of "junk DNA that might serve some purpose...we just don't know).

In any case, I have never heard of an "X" or a "Y" gene. Genes are usually named in either obscure ways (for example, the genes that code for growth and development are called Hox genes), or based on what function they are thought to serve. As far as I know, there is no "N" gene...but then, I work in molecular biology, not genetics :)

Maybe the speaker did not mean anything by Par-4...but you have to admit it is interesting. Par - 4 is "Prostate apoptosis response protein" which is a "Transcriptional repressor" in "genomic" terms, it is a regulatory element that binds a DNA transcription control sequence to repress the transcription of genes. Which basically means, it can be used to "erase" undesired qualities in our DNA.

LT and rhettoric

N Gene was a shot in the dark, I got it from this:
« The recently cloned N gene of tobacco confers resistance to the viral pathogen, tobacco mosaic virus.” Made me think of the outbreak in Tanzania
(More specifically N protein gene sequence.)
The “n” could also indicate N-terminal

Anyways the logic goes like this
Timeless = circadian rhythms = seasonal depression (mental health)= light therapy = White Nights in Iceland

It’s weak, but it’s a theory –genetics and bio are far distant memories for me.
Am I taking this too far?
