About a month ago I had I thought the Alvar Hanso and Joop were one in the same. I even posted it at the message board at this site. The life extension program has to be an animal human hybrid experiment. Why else would that primate virus spread to human beings so quickly! Is Alvar Hanso Joop! I believe he is.
I also messed around with the audio from the Jeep ad from a couple of days ago! I slowed it down and raised the pitch on it. Here is what that guy sounds like....

I don't think the joop thing is anything more then a herring. But there are a couple of Flowers of Life sites that have been registered recently but aren't up yet. Something to look out for anyway. The genuine site has been around for years (I found 2 old genuine sites and they have both been round for years so not even worth a mention).
Anyway, the Flowers thing seems the key info in the podcast.

I liked the original Hugh McIntyre better. I thought he really fit into everything a deceptive businessman should be. The new one looks too casual. i cant really explain it.

in regards to this "don't trust rachel" thing, if we don't trust her, who are we supposed to trust? from the get-go people said "don't trust P" and "don't trust DJ Dan" - but if we can't trust any of these in-game personas, who the heck are we supposed to rely on for information? You have to assume that some people in this game are going to be telling the truth, or you're not going to get anywhere. What would the X-Files have been if no one trusted Mulder or Scully? Think about it.

That, combined with the French issue (why would a Danish restaurant have to so fear French solicitors that they'd have to put up a sign?), makes me doubt the veracity of Ms. Rachel. Not throw it out the window, just doubt.
With all the technology we've been exposed to in Persephone's hacks, and the THF site in general, we shouldn't have to expect that a wedding picture should look that junky.
I've anagramed that sign to death now. I've said on IRC and I'll say it here. If it is an anagram I'll eat my hat. I have "Deep Costal Prog", "A Spaceport Lodge", "Polar Cage Depots". "Go Toppled Caesar", "Page a Closed Port", and several that have already been mentioned. Personally I think the angle is a load of "Castle Grade Poop" (which is also a possible anagram).
Anyway, I did a frequency comparison between R and P and it didn't look the same. But it is inconclusive. I looked up some proper voice comparison techniques and it's a lot more complex then what I did. I'm not convinced P is R, just because R seems a bit more amature, but then that's Hackers for you. They seem clued in and smart while hacking but then they turn out to be some spotty 13 year old kid. *shrug* Jurys out. The post today seems to suggest R wasn't Hughs girl, but I think the majority didn't go for that one anyway.
As for the Flowers thing, I posted a link in a previous clue to a theory from another message board that seems to tie in.

I don't think it matters if we trust Rachel or not. Either way we need to follow her lead for information. Once we have it we can debate it's value. I don't see the harm in just going with her right now. Although if she asks to meet you in a secluded location it may be wise to check the area for black vans with little radar dishes on the roof first.
I wouldn't think anything of the "pas de colportage" sign except it stands out so much. If it was naturally on the door like that it would be harder to read - see how the door itself is slightly out of focus? I am sure it means something, as to me it looks like it was intentionally put there.
The sign is French and in English means No Hawking...not like Stephen Hawking, though I considered the pysicist, but as in no peddling or selling of goods outside the restaurant...although I did search for Pas De Colportage and some interesting literature about religion and Allah and stuff came up once I tranlated it...don't know the correlation.
My point, however, is maybe it is No Hawking we need an anagram for.

Reguarding all of the nitpicking of Rachel's photos --
Remember that everything in TLE is essentailly an in-game fake. Albiet a well-paid in-game fake, but a fake nevertheless. So technically speaking they could only do things as well as a good computer whiz over here in the dark could.
1) A few people have mentioned the Alvar Hanso / Joop connection that DJ Dan forwarded in his podcast. I am kind of surprised there hasn't been more of a reaction to this. It is positively ludicrous, no matter what kind of treatments Hanso receives (or received), it is simply not possible that a human could be transmogrified into an ourang-outang. It's just ludicrous.
2) Cryogenics, which I've seen theoretically linked to Hanso, is also simply not advanced to the point where a human being could even be revived. Now, if he was stored, it is within the realm of possibility that Hanso has gone missing whilst the HF attempts to recreate him through cloning. There are scientists and organisations - particularly (surpise!) in - currently working on the process.
3) Xenotransplantation seems to be a more likely connection between Hanso and Joop, as this is an actual recorded occurrence.
4) The links being established between the Hanso Foundation and the slave trade in the eighteenth and nineteenth century are not surprising, given our previous exposure to these kinds of elements in the show itself (black rock, locke dissuading eko from becoming a slave to the computers, as well as the sense that the DHARMA Initiative (and the HF) in forcing people in completely inappropriate ways into different kinds of experimentation.
5) I am growing increasingly suspicious of Rachel Blake and the information she is dispensing. Doubtless much of the intel she's dispensing is legitimate. The Mulder and Scully allusion made earlier in these comments is an interesting one, but it is flawed. Rachel is an "insider" (at least formerly) to the HF or to one of its subsidiary corporations.
Her role in this adventure seems to be more aligned (on X-Files terms) to Deep Throat, X, the Well-Manicured Man, or Marita Covarrubias - all people who gave enough information to tantalize, but never at the cost of their own interests. I posit that Rachel Blake may be up to something not dissimilar. I have further thoughts on RB, particularly on her historical and literary namesakes, but that can wait.
6) Rachel has to be in her mid-twenties, as far as her age goes. Is it really plausible that a person of this age, who sits in a car right in front of the archive building, or pursuing Mittlewerk wouldn't have been spotted or apprehended yet by some of the HF's goons? I mean, if Mr. Paik knew enough of Jin's intentions to send an operative to follow him to the Sydney airport when he was on an ostensibly official assignment from Paik, then doesn't it make sense that a girl in her mid-twenties, broadcasting all over the internet could be tracked and captured?

Wizardry: I think the hex codes in the DJ Dan podcast comments are just junk. I accidently checked the comments in the Lost Experience Podcast Episode 6 and it has some of the same hexes. So I downloaded other LEC podcasts and they all have similar codes. So maybe its just a tracker for the podcast...but unfortunately I think they mean nothing. Sad though...I had hoped they were a clue.
Way to go kittenry. Nice read. I agree especially that hanso/joop is crazy. I feel that DJDan saying that is further evidence to suggest that he does have some crazy (and off the mark) theories and you just have to get the right ones.

just dwelling on the Xenotransplantation idea. I know of transplant stories in humans where people feel they have taken on some characteristics (or memories?) of the people they recived organs from. You could go a similar route with cross-species organ transplant so maybe Alvar is acting less human and more like Joop (and vice versa). Just an idea... you never really know what they're going to bring into this

No they are not new. They are what translated into ascii letters (see here) to give "evident agenda" which was the password to the "extra info" box on rachel blakes site when it opened.

trevorgladez: I don't think the whole Joop=Hanso things holds any truth, except for a possible simile between their actual ages. Maybe DJDan thought he was being clever by comparing the supernaturally long life spans of the two. But, you're right about that, at least. If it is true (and I don't believe it will be), then TLE really will have been a monumental waste of time.
Still.. I think the folks who are running this ARG are a lost smarter than to lead us on with such a horrible ending.
TG: I gather Rachel was letting us know that the original source of Alvar's wealth was based on the slave trade. I guess we all have skeleton's in our closets if we dig deep enough.

I think Alvar=Joop is totally off-the-wall. I think all the Life Extension stuff might have something to do with the missing organs clue and organ harvesting in Cape Town. Maybe THF was experimenting on Joop by transplanting organs that were failing. Alvar might be the first human to use what they tried on Joop.

Also, nothing important, but I noticed that the Perseph' site has a slightly different video than it used to, almost like it's subtly being updated so that nobody can catch onto it. I noticed that just as soon as the page loads, the woman's (P?) face flashes very boldly and then immediately goes pale and desaturated, to blend in with the black around her. I managed to nab a shot of that one single frame at the beginning of the Flash.
AND HERE SHE IS All rotated and unaltered. I just cropped around her to make the file smaller. We now have a very clear face for the Persephone site.
i'm not convinced that those are not just retail arms or warehouses. if the guys on ROT are working in a verizon office building, then what we need is a listing of their corporate offices, specifically. :/ it occured to me that if i email them, they might send me one. otoh, they might think i'm a terrorist.

But I can't help but notice the name CANDLE in there.
Maven, trevorgladez, etc. - I recall seeing something on Discovery (or Discovery Health) about "real-world" life expectancy altering. The point of the research was that there is a gene that controls a cells ability to "repair" itself. Basically, as a person ages and/or passes their reproductive prime, something in the body triggers the cells to stop repairing themselves. This is what we commonly know as the aging process. It is widely believed that if this gene can be found, then there may be a way to switch it so that cells will continue to repair themselves indefinitely. If our bodies continue repairing themselves, then greatly increased life-spans are possible. Immortality may be a stretch, but theoretically would be possible. In summary, our bodies die because our genetic make-up is programmed for it. If we change the program, life can be prolonged.
I know this wasn't all that was involved, but should be the general idea.

There's something I've been thinking about recently.
What's with the difficulty level? I mean, with so many people working on it, they could at least try a little harder to make the clues more difficult to crack. The only "difficult" clue (meaning, it took us more than a couple of hours to solve as a community) was that first Hole picture. And that wasn't even difficult by normal ARG standards.
What I was really looking forward to was encrypted files. Not ASCII or Rot13, but maybe truely encrypted files that would take even the experts a few days to solve. Or maybe something alluding to deep history that would take a good trip to the library or two to figure it out.
I'm not saying that it's not fun right now, but it's a bit too easy. I don't know about you, but I've been there and done that. This so far is just "hidden links" and "The Best Encryptian Ever: ASCII Binary, played backwards".
If ABC can read this, I'm just asking them to maybe up the ante a bit. Hanso is a huge corporation, here. If a bunch of normal people can solve all of Rachel's puzzles, then it only makes sense that Hanso could figure them out in a heartbeat.
mstk: I agree, up to a point. It's a huge ARG so far, with lots of people playing due to the popularity of the show, so it needs to quite litterally be puzzles and clues for the average viewer. I like the complexity of some of these clues so far, but I also agree that they could be much more complex. With how rich the Lost world's mythos and background is, I'm sure the people running the TLE ARG are putting in a lot of elements many people will never grasp.
I'd love a more exclusive game, where only the best cyphers and coders and cryptics understand the best clues, but I don't think it'll happen. Maybe towards the end of the third act it will get that complex. Things have gotten a little more difficult since the beginning of the game, of course, so maybe it's only slowly progressing. No sudden sharp learning curve.
Although, only a handful of players are finding the best clues. Many are just along for the ride.
mochi - that's kind of my point. The majority of us don't even participate in the clue solving, or when we try to, someone always beats us to it. Harder clues would give us hopefuls a greater chance of solving them, and plus it wouldn't affect those people who are just "along for the ride", beucase they don't solve clues anyway.
Well, let's just hope that things continue to get progressively more and more difficult as we enter into the second act.
And I hate just waiting around for the next podcast or web video. It makes the game uninteresting. It turns it from an active playable game into a waiting game.
Yeah, that's kind of what I mean. Maybe clues that took more than a couple hours to crack would make the game more playable.

There are always little pauses in between acts. They're building up, getting things running on a daily schedule, instead of a weekly one. It will get so much better. I can feel it down in my bones. My bones whisper me sweet secrets.
