Clue #63 - Rachel Blake Copenhagen Post 07, Gary Troup Info (8), Save Joop & RoT

Rachel Blake Post 7: Post 7 is up over at Rachel Blake's blog. She commends Linmoo for finding Mittlewerk's map but says that "this doesn't seem to make sense!". She says she saw another map on the ground "near the zero degree latitude line" that her camera didn't catch. Also, GidgetGirl is back in the comments and has provided a link to her blog, in an attempt to gain Rachel's trust and convince her that she's "in a position to share things that nobody else knows about The Hanso Foundation". Rachel references the letter from Armand Zander that Persephone posted on one of her hacks. Looks like Rachel's headed for Iceland!

Gary Troup Video: Gary Troup's latest interview (No. 7 of 9) has been found on Myspace. For those you who cannot access MySpace, evil^^ from our comments has uploaded it to Youtube.

Savejoop.com Update: When we tried to visit one of our favorite sites today, we instead saw an announcement that they had reached 10,800 signatures and a message stating that for reason they could not disclose, savejoop.com had to be shutdown. But they gave a link to a MySpace account, where they supplied us with a better explanation that "some people did not find it too funny" and gave a link to www.sitonamonkey.com who was "keeping the cause alive".

Find the post titled "108" and read through the comments. Early on "savejoop" tells that, after reaching their mark and trying to contact Hanso, they started getting ALOT of heat for it and were trying to find a way to show us the documentation. THEN they provided this link and this link, asking for passwords. The passwords were found to be DI 9FFTR731. This gives us a letter from Peter Thompson and a restraining order. Looks like THF means business!

RetrieversofTruth: There's chatter on the message board over at RoT again. Looks like these guys truly are able to be reached through the use of AIM. Have had any conversations with them? Post it in the comments!
Some people have received this message from DSLerator on AIM:
Here’s your next hint: 25 15 21 18 - and if A = 1, B = 2, etc., then this message = YOUR.

I still find it hard to believe that it was a mistake for us to find the Island in Canada. all the people behind the scenes have to know that if they give us something to do, we're going to find a way to accomplish it.

She told us to find the island, so we did. She gave us the image to use to find it.

She wanted us to find the Islands near Canada

What i'm confused about is why is the equator so damn important? I think that's a clue to something else that has nothing to do with finding an island.

6/27/2006 11:48:00 AM
Blogger BadgerKyle said...

This may be COMPLETELY wrong (and most likely is). . . but pilsbaryfroboy and everyone else talking about the canadian islands . . . is it possible that when the electromagnetic incidents happen, it fluctuates the location of things? Such as the canadian island suddenly going through a type of teleportation to the equator? or maybe the earth suddenly switches and has its magnetic fields messed up, so that the equator runs through canada for a second; meaning that the north pole really becomes close to the equator . .even if it is only for a second?

I'm just rambling because I'm bored at work . . .any thoughts?

6/27/2006 11:52:00 AM
Blogger oxillini said...

Seems so darned convenient though, that the island of interest was one she didn't film. I still think that we weren't supposed to find that island without being given more information, i.e. more info later would have shown this island to have been on the equator. I'm sticking to my "a lazy intern is in big trouble" theory.

6/27/2006 11:54:00 AM
Blogger oxillini said...

badgerkyle: changing the earth's magnetic fields and it's poles wouldn't change latitudes, because this is a grid civilization set up, this is not a physical or natural constant.

boofmcboof: i agree. i really thought that when those islands were found to be in north america, then the more interactive "real" portion of the game would take off. guess not.

Agreed Ox.

I think they have underestimated the community a few times and this was a major screw up. But they probably filmed these clips before the ARG started and didn't realize how good we could be at finding stuff.

Blogger Idaho Girl said...

It's a contradiction.

They expect us to be able to check source codes to find things, decode various number strings, rip audio to play it backwards, etc.

But not expect us to find the real piece of land???

6/27/2006 12:02:00 PM
Blogger Nai said...

it suprises me that they would have underestimated us this much... Lost fans are incredibly dedicated... we pick apart every frame of every episode looking for things like shark tatoos, hieroglyphic slot machine reels and go so far as to play messages by a backward talking soaking wet walt in reverse... they know us way better than that...

Blogger BadgerKyle said...

ox - I know that it is a creation of man with regard to lat/long, but is it not base on where the poles and axises are? In that case, if something was messed up big time, it could possibly or potentially change the poles, and therefore our system of measuring it would be out of whack, with the island hypothetically being at the equator . . . I was just rambling however, so I don't mind being proven wrong!

6/27/2006 12:08:00 PM
Blogger oxillini said...

idaho: that's what seems so funny to me. it's like "work hard to find these clues guys! oops! not that hard! look over here at this smoke and mirrors." The audio on p's site had to be recorded and played backwards, but they assumed we don't know how to use google earth or that no one playing the game is from the area, even though the participants stretch from Canada to New Zealand and back again. I picture the team behind this having a pretty heated meeting on this topic this week.

don't get me wrong, I'm still having a good time and it certainly beats working.

I'm not really sure what's going on and I'm not 100% convinced this link was important. But in any case - it's hilarious. They have the Growing Pains theme playing on their blog.

Blogger Idaho Girl said...

LOL Agreed again Ox.

I would even be more ok with it if it weren't such a lame cover up on the part of Rachel about the maps.

Especially to use land in one of the countries that watches Lost and is participating in the game.

6/27/2006 12:12:00 PM
Blogger oxillini said...

badger: (OT - is that a reference to the U of Wisconsin? If so, Big Ten in the house!) The system of latitude is based upon the magnetic poles, however, all the maps in the world wouldn't change when the fields changed. That would take years and create mass confusion in transportation. I genuinely believe this is a screwup we're just supposed to accept and move on. no biggie, i'll just keep playing.

Blogger bacchusyappy said...

This "experience" has been dealt out very carefully (minus the early mentions of Rachel in the source code).

So I doubt TPTB would allow Rachel's most recent video to focus on the wrong maps. Maybe those were the right maps for now.

They are just testing our ability to look broader than a 1000-mile radius of some point in the Pacific Ocean.

This mystery is one of global proportions, and those islands looked fairly uninhabitable. The perfect place for maybe a new DHARMA Initiative? Or a hiding Hanso?

6/27/2006 12:13:00 PM
Blogger oxillini said...

bacchus: but tptb told us to go find the island and we did! and then they said, nope not that one, try again. they acknowledged that the island in canada is the one they used, but not they one they wanted us to find. if they want to just deal out the plot, why ask the players to do anything? if they want to keep the players involved, why the takeback on the island?

Yeah, I'm in agreeance here. If they wanted us to play along, they'd make the clues either easier to follow, dead obvious, or incorporate us somehow. Realworld... in dunno. It's already very realworld, with all the ads and the book and whatever. I dunno. I just feel like we're getting yanked around on this.

I hope it all makes sense in a little while.

Killing the game through player inactivity? Sounds like a riot. /sarcasm/

Couple of things about the Myspace site for Save Joop. Links to sitonamonkey.blogspot.com. Fairly ridiculous but perhaps something: when you get to photo 108 (which unlike the other photos is not spelled out), you get to a black and white pick of a girl on a horse ( not sitting on a monkey). They also noted that SaveJoop was shut down after 10,800 signatures‚ clearly no coinky-dink (though still unclear whether it's in-game.) Check out the comments at the 108 photo. Apparently they're going to post some documents. We're also told to check savejoop.com later.

"I was trying to learn my lines for a play can you help me?

We live in a world that has walls, and those walls are guarded by men with agendas. I have a greater responsibility than you could possibly fathom. You weep for Joop, and you curse the Hanso Foundation. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know. That Alvar Hanso disappearance, while tragic, probably saved lives. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on My Space, you need me on My Space. We use words like truth, honest, freedom. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something... trying to understand something. Why are we here and what does it all mean? You'll have to wait and see...

Thanks you Aaron Sorkin and Drama Teach for inspiring me.

Check back tomorrow... afternoon for something new that might give you a couple of things to add to your search."

Gary Troup Interview:

Gary Troup: I'm an inveterate bachelor, I mean, I never even thought about coming close to getting married until, you know, I started doing research for Bad Twin.

Laird Granger: Which required lots of travel to Australia?

Gary Troup: Eight times actually [Granger laugh]...uh, I'm kind of a research fanatic, and a large part of the book takes place down there.

Laird Granger: Of course your love for deep-sea fishing and the Great Barrier Reed had nothing to do with it? [laughs]

Gary Troup: Hey hey, come on, that's research!

[laughs]

Anyways, either coincidentally or by fate there is this incredible woman; Cindy. She's a flight attend-- [cuts off]

Hmmmm...more questions than answers I suppose....

6/27/2006 02:00:00 PM
Blogger christy said...

My own personal opinion is that it started out OOG, but then with the signatures and the attention it garnered, it became in-game. If this is supposed to be taking place in real-life currently, the Hanso Foundation couldn't just ignore the 10,000 signatures and maintain the suspension of disbelief that they are a real organization.

Also, it's pretty cool.

But I would be posing some questions to the admins here, since we know they were the original registrars of the web site savejoop.com and let the guys over at random t's use it. They still own the site itself (correct me if I am wron here.) So they would have to know about it being in-game now, I would think.

Wait - is this site in-game? AM I IN-GAME RIGHT NOW?! :^)

You and I already know the answer. Savejoop.com is undeniably affiliated with ABC. I can give you a concrete reason for this:

You said yourself that the Speaker could not come on your podcast because it would be seen as an endorsement.

If I am honest - if I had realised savejoop.com was merely loaned I would have thought the thing to be some kind of hoax anyway because surely admin would have wanted in on the act somehow.

Many plugs for savejoop.com came from here. Including the interview from savejoop.com owner. Admin was obviously in contact with these guys.

Seems to me that this is how it all began and now admin has been squeezed out of the hoax because TPTB are now involved. Hence the comments at the beginning here.

But that does not make sense to me if admin actually owns the domain.

That should explain it.

ALSO, GUYS.

I quoth David from TLEC podcast #3, at 30 minutes 42 seconds, as he is discussing the savejoop.com guys: "And just so our listeners know, I'm letting them use the domain that I bought, it was only like eight bucks, but I'm letting them use it for free because these guys, they convinced me that they really were Lost fans, fans of the Lost Experience..."

(30:42)

This is different, for a number of reasons. For one, savejoop.com was, at the time, selling t-shirts. Therefore, this would have been an endorsement. I think you'll agree with me when I say that a shout-out is not the same as an endorsement.

so does anyone else think that David the Administrator is in cahoots with the people from randomshirts.com? http://sitonamonkey.blogspot.com/ clearly states "About sitonamonkey.com
My name is David"....

matt. I kind of thought that david meant endorsing a blog other than the official blog. Not referring to anything else. I could have been wrong there as well I guess.

I dont think the mention of savejoop.com was a hoas. I think it was real hence the reosan why I think the site to be in game now.

I do not think david is in game though. I am sure I do not know all the facts yet but I dont think so.

My Savejoop T-Shirt's, I bought a black one and gave the yellow one to my stuffed monkey [check out myspace.com/louielovesya] came with a delightful poster! It was a good quality T-shirt.. I think the company really does exist because they sell other shirts as well..

No, he can't be -- he refers to the game, so he can't be an in-game character. However, that doesn't mean that he's not working with people related to TPTB.
