Clue #66 - Rachel Blake Iceland Post 03 & DJDan 6/30

Rachel Blake Update:
Rachel Blake = Persephone! She's finally cleared it all up for us, and Rachel IS in fact Persephone so the debate has been laid to rest...She has been busy in Iceland and has already posted twice today. Scroll down for Iceland Post 03 then back up for more comments on Mittelwerk. It looks like she's headed for Italy next...

DJ Dan Update & Podcast:
DJDan's site was updated on 6/30 before his podcast was up. He's got Thomas Mittlewerk in his sites and has a new Sprite Ad on his page. He also had a new podcast that Rachel lead us to. Rachel Blake's blog linked us to the RetrieversofTruth message board (to get there from the retrieversoftruth page, you have to use "polar bear" as the password) and the podcast URL is in the "By the power of gravy...I HAVE THE POWER" thread. Valenzetti stuff and Rachel/Persephone calls in. Uber interesting stuff...

Thanks to Thraser76, Faith ^_^ and devondude for being the first to email!

For those without speakers:

“Coming to you live from the fire in your belly…D.J. Dan! You’re listening to DJ Dan…shutting down the man!”

DAN: And I’m here talking to Rus…

RUS: Russel!

DAN: Yeah, yeah. Russel Andrews who, uh--

RUS: --who’s here to tell you we’re in a lot of trouble and most of us don’t even realize it!

DAN: Russel?

RUS: We have an ecosystem on the brink of—

DAN: I’m trying to be polite here! Russel! Tell us, what is your job?

RUS: As I’ve already explained, I’m a mathematical forecaster and—

DAN: Nah, nah hold it right there, just hold. My listeners hear “mathematical forecaster” and already…(makes pop/click sound with mouth)…they’re disconnected. Now Rus, tell me: what does a mathematical forecaster do?

RUS: Basically, I use algorithms to forecast systematic—

DAN: EHHH! You use math to predict the future but Rus, nobody can predict the future.

RUS: That’s not true.

DAN: I repeat: nobody. I don’t care who you are, what you do, who you pray to, what kinda computer power your packing, what kind of degrease/degrees (?) your holding, what kind of…tarot cards, and star charts, and tea leaves, and coffee grounds, and pig’s blood, and moon runes, you can never, ever predict what is coming out of my mouth RIGHT NOW. Come on, give it a shot. Try, try, try, SIX backward church dummies, you know, Madagascar, huh?

RUS: S-So what?

DAN: So I just proved my point?

RUS: L-Look, DJ Dan, if what I’m saying is so far off the mark, tell me: why would the UN hire Enzo Valenzetti in 1963 to apply the laws of statistical probability to predict the future? Of mankind?

DAN: Enzo Venza-what-a-whata?

RUS: Enzo Valenzetti...he-he was the greatest mind in mathematical history.

DAN: Then how come I ain’t heard of him?

RUS: Because he died before his prime. He was piloting a plane from Naples to Paris and it just—disappeared. H-he was killed! Killed, DJ Dan. Uh, to hide the truth.

DAN: And what truth might that be?

RUS: After the Cuban missile crisis, the UN decided to fly my field to the prospects of humanity. They hired this [pres-something?] grad student, Valenzetti, to come up with this equation that would help look into the—

DAN: Aright, right. Rusty, Rusty, Rustel, what did this equation say?

RUS: N-n-nobody knows. It was an oral presentation to the UN, and then the whole thing’s been suppressed. And he-he developed it on his own in seclusion.

DAN: Then how do you know this Valenzetti equation even exists?

RUS: Because a book was written about it. I’ve been trying to get my hands on it for years but it’s out of print, and somebody just bought the original publisher.

DAN: Looks like a real conspiracy theory, Rusty. And who, praytell, bought the publishing company?

RUS: The Hanso Foundation.

DAN: SHUT DOWN!! Very clever Rus, very clever, but I’ve seen enough parlor tricks in my day to know when I’m being had.

RACHEL: Maybe you shouldn’t be so quick to shut down your callers, DJ Dan.

DAN: Ooohh, a feisty one! You sound waaay to hot to be one of my conspiraspies. Who am I talkin’ to here?

RACH: Here’s what I know: Remember your Vik Institute show? Mental hospital run by the Hanso Foundation, full of number-crunching savants in a mysterious dark basement?

DAN: Yeah, yeah.

RACH: I know for a fact that it’s full of mathematicians and those savants? They’re running an equation over and over. It’s just like what you said. Mittelwerk doesn’t want a data trail.

DAN: So, uh, so so what, you think they’re running this Valentiki equation?

RACH: Guess you are as smart as you look.

DAN: Ho-ho-ho-ho. If I wasn’t married I’d take you to the Puerto Rican beach where I grew up and marry you on the SPOT!

RACH: Too bad you’re married!

DAN: [Spanish that would take to long for me to do]

RACH: You want to know what I’m wearing? Something cute. Too bad the Hanso Foundation wants me dead. You’ll never get to see.

DAN: Wait a minute, who is this really?

RACH: Persephone.

DAN: Persephone? Talk-tur-Perseph-Tonya! Quick! Trace the call! Trace the call right now! Trace it, come on.

TONYA: Trace it? With my pencil?

DAN: Jus-ah. DJ Dan, more in love than ever before.

“You’re listening to D.J. Dan…shutting down the man!”

On the previous clue comments we've been discussing why Mittelwerk is going to Sanremo, Italy and not Sardinia (where every website I know of that deals with Valenzetti states he was born in 1920's). He died/disappeared piloting a plane between Naples and Paris. So why Sanremo?

like i said before, Sanremo is between Naples and Paris - maybe that's where his plane disappeared (aka where he was last seen), and that's why everyone is heading there - maybe Mittelwerk has him tied up there.

also, i agree with whoever said that JJ Abrahams seems to have a penchant for Italian geniuses...first Rambaldi on Alias, and now Valenzetti on LOST...it's interesting, at any rate.

shakey: Perhaps he has to play dumb, so that he draws less attention to himself. It tends to discredit him quite a bit, but if he has any sort of information he shouldn't have, which we expect he does, then not only would he have to play the fool occasionally too cover for himself, but it also helps to explain why he's moving around all the time.

Do we have a transcript of the article before it went bye-bye?

6/30/2006 05:19:00 PM
Blogger Dr3dPir8 said...

shakey, I have to agree. We've suspected DJ Dan for a while now, and he just seems to be getting more suspicious. He loves to dote on Persephone and her hacks, but then doesn't seem to know anything about the information P gave us. It doesn't add up. This may all be a part of the podcasts being out of order, but now we have this one that seems to be "real time" almost; due to the interaction with the podcast, RB, the VIK stuff, and RB's posts on her blog.

This brings me to my questions/points:

1. If this is a "real-time" release, then it's after the "sell-out" podcast.
2. If this one is not out of order, why hasn't DJ Dan heard of mathematical forecasting? Didn't he LOOK at THF.org?
3. Since we are fairly certain that he has looked at THF.org since he has mentioned P and her hacks in the past, why play ignorant and try to dismiss it?

Yet another perfect example of not knowing who we can trust. We still don't know P/RB's motives, we don't know who Gidgetgirl is or her motivations, we surely don't know what DJ Dan is up to, the RoT guys don't know themselves what's going on.... aaaaagh! So, who CAN we trust?

6/30/2006 05:25:00 PM
Blogger Benthic said...

I'd simply love to know why we can never seem to get a full podcast from him that doesn't start in the middle of a conversation with someone (like a caller) or is cut off prematurely. I guess all of our videos are plauged like that, though. We never get the full story. We have to put things together by ourselves.

6/30/2006 05:32:00 PM
Blogger Carol Dunstan said...

yes... DJDan is odd. I had a little suspiscion that DJDan was playing dumb to ask questions on his listeners behalf, to get people to explain things in a more simple way for laymen to understand... we all know technobabble can be utter confuzzling at times. But that still doesn't seem to add up. At the same time Rachel has been doing a bit too,, hence all the doubt she was Persephone. Hmm, something to ponder...

Everyone: Check out TLE Research Timeline. There's a link on 1963 when Valenzetti presented his Equation to the UN. It says he was born in the 1920's on the ISLAND(!) of Sardinia.

Blogger Benthic said...

lol @ Rachsephone. Persephel works as well!

I think you're right about the building-up concept, shakey. Acts One and Two will provide us with the information (and socio-mental disorders) required to finish the Third Act and the game. Either that, or the Third Act will be so complicated, that only players that have been keeping up with the things the entire time will have the slightest chance of finishing it, due to the level of complexity, esoteric knowledge, and level of detail in keeping all of the facts, lies, and half-truths straight.

Personally, I look forward to it. Some corporation-made ARGs had prizes or contest puzzles at the end of them, to reward the players with something. Take the 2002 ARG for "Push". $1,000,000 for the winner of that one...

mochi: Well, we have nothing else to go on. You would think the TPTB would have put out something somewhere about San Remo as his birthplace. Instead we have this supposed article from Wiki and the valenzettifoundation website (which I KNOW is not in-game). And, no, I didn't mean to infer it was THE island, but meant that it was an island (ha ha) since we are so obsessed by islands lately.

6/30/2006 05:57:00 PM
Blogger Benthic said...

omni: Ah, that kind of sucks. Not like playing the game isn't one of the funnest things I've done in years, but I guess the incentive of a large prize at the end is just a little something extra. One of those "now that you all have spent 3 or 4 months of your life playing this game, here's the prize!" things. Who knows. Actually, this brings up another (non-important) question...

What makes us think that the ARG will end with Act Three? The show may very well continue for another season after that (I have no reference whatsoever on how long ABC has the show scheduled to run so far), so mayhaps the ARG will continue well into the next Season, or again during the next season break (the gap bewteen airing of a new season).

So, aside from all that nonsense, how is everyone else's Friday night?

Even thought the Valenzetti Foundation page is OOG (so far as we now know), that part looks like it was just about copied from the Lostpedia entry. I read the Lostpedia entry several times when it was up (never thinking to take a copy), and that sounds pretty darn close if it's not a word-for-word copy.

...and yes, I understand that the validity of the information can be questioned regardless of the original source. In either case, I think it's achedemic at this point anyway.

Mochi - TPTB in a press release or interview (don't remember the source) referred to it as a three act play. They also stated from the get-go that this would be a summer game to pass the time (i.e. maintain interest) between seasons.

It all get's complex with the fake sites involved and of course the flaws of an information source anyone can write too. Having said that, that is what I've always said about the internet. You can't really trust anything you read on the net.

Hmmm, can you trust anything you don't witness first hand anywhere?

Which is probably why there will always be doubts about everything you see and every "fact" in a paranoia filled ARG like this.

I've suddenly got a feeling I should be less cynical about things in this.

I'm hoping that the end of Act 3 somehow flows into the beginning of Season 3. Now, I know there's an issue with 2004/2006, but this being television, TPTB can make 2 years go by since the end of Season 2, and we'd all be on the same page.

SPOILER###################################

I realize the certain Losties would be held prisoner for quite some time, but they can just say they've been held captive that long.

It's just a dream I have that would reconcile the ARG and the show, and have it all make sense timewise. I know it's silly, but, hey, it's only a television show!

going on in the finale of Season 2 other than just the captives. What happened to the guys in the hatch? How's everyone else reacting to those who went on the hike? Where do the Others go to? I think skipping 2 years would skip right over a lot of the drama and suspens built up. Just MHO.

shakey, I didn't necessarily mean dumb down... but at least explain things more to those who are not familiar with anything related to the topic. Those familiar with a topic can get used to conversing about it with others who are familiar with it and are working from a common background. When you are speaking to a lot of random people at once, you can't really make those assumptions. The interviewer is an intermediary and it's part of their job. Well, that's been my experience. Of course DJDan is working with a niche market, but at the same time a complete novice could come across it. Radio is so immediate... it's not like print media where you can go back and read over things to try and understand what you didn't catch the first time. But yeah... don't know that DJDan has that attitude, it's just something that crossed my mind. And well... I'm not familiar with Mathematical Forcasting being a common conspiracy theory.

007surge: I know it doesn't make sense. A lot in TV doesn't. This 2 years discrepency has been bugging me lately, and it's one way of erasing it. We are constantly asked to suspend belief and just go with it. Having 2 years go by with no explanation or changes would be totally ridiculous and upset many of us, but it would take care of the 2004/2006 thing. And, of course, they would never do it.

oo7, I am in agreement. I think it would be a travesty if they just glossed over 2 years like ~that~ (snaps fingers). We haven't spent 2 years covering 2 months to spend the off-season covering 2 years. That said...

Just like the Twilight Zone episode "Patterns"!

The man who must continue to make assorted gestures, counting, and repeating forever to keep the world intact. People think he is crazy, but when he is finally stopped, everything starts falling apart. Planes fall out of the sky and all sense is lost. It starts going into chaos until his psychiatric doctor takes it upon himself to run the numbers and gestures again, restoring order.

It has to be run all of the time and never stop or catastrophy.

Maybe he simply figured out the pattern and wrote it down.

The LOST writers are admitted big fans of The Twilight Zone and have made references to it before.

Something to think about.

sophie - thanks. :^)

I think there is a good summary in the comments yesterday about the ROT clues, but basically we got one clue (blood, i think was the first one) and then the awesome people on this board deduced the other ones before the clues were released by linking three colors: red, green, and blue - to words associated with those colors: blood, money, sorrow.

That is probably the worst explanation ever - but the basic jist of it is that the big brains on here figured out the pattern before the clues were released!

Sorry, was gone yesterday and just checked my personal e-mail. Got this from theretrieversoftruth.com ...

--------------------------------
Dear friends,

I want to thank you all for registering for my newsletter. Things in the world
of Bole and the Retrievers of Truth are very exciting as of late. The RoT is
getting worldwide recognition and I will be appearing on several television
shows in Korea and Australia in the very near future.

The other day I was walking along the river, Bien Ecouter, near a friend's home
in Switzerland. I was contemplating the nature of things and eating a
buttercream torte when a yellow lab came out of nowhere and blocked my path. I
stood motionless for what seemed like an eternity stunned by this intrusion all
the while wondering what the creature's intentions were.

The yellow lab is a highly evolved creature, as I have stated on my website and
in my many books. When they venture into our personal space it is usually for a
reason and at this moment I could not fathom what this particular stranger
wanted of me? Had he heard of me from other retrievers? Did he sense my
willingness to communicate? Was this all just a coincidence?

After a few seconds our eyes locked and we communicated. He stated his name was
"Wand Prowess." He then stated that I should remember his name, "not as it is
but as it can be." Then he began what seemed like a poem, "In the Pacific I'm in
the ocean bare, when I'm up north I'm the sea bear." I tried to question both
statements but he just looked at me, turned and as he was about to walk away he
said, "I'll leave you with two things to ponder" and he then turned and ran off.
These are they:

Maslow's hierarchy

Keep who's eye on the prize?

I only tell you these tales of my journeys to entertain. But I do hope these
incidents in my life will inspire you to look more deeply into your own.

Yours truly, Dr. Vincent "Wally" Bole
