Clue #66 - Rachel Blake Iceland Post 03 & DJDan 6/30

Rachel Blake Update:
Rachel Blake = Persephone! She's finally cleared it all up for us, and Rachel IS in fact Persephone so the debate has been laid to rest...She has been busy in Iceland and has already posted twice today. Scroll down for Iceland Post 03 then back up for more comments on Mittelwerk. It looks like she's headed for Italy next...

DJ Dan Update & Podcast:
DJDan's site was updated on 6/30 before his podcast was up. He's got Thomas Mittlewerk in his sites and has a new Sprite Ad on his page. He also had a new podcast that Rachel lead us to. Rachel Blake's blog linked us to the RetrieversofTruth message board (to get there from the retrieversoftruth page, you have to use "polar bear" as the password) and the podcast URL is in the "By the power of gravy...I HAVE THE POWER" thread. Valenzetti stuff and Rachel/Persephone calls in. Uber interesting stuff...

Thanks to Thraser76, Faith ^_^ and devondude for being the first to email!

For those without speakers:

“Coming to you live from the fire in your belly…D.J. Dan! You’re listening to DJ Dan…shutting down the man!”

DAN: And I’m here talking to Rus…

RUS: Russel!

DAN: Yeah, yeah. Russel Andrews who, uh--

RUS: --who’s here to tell you we’re in a lot of trouble and most of us don’t even realize it!

DAN: Russel?

RUS: We have an ecosystem on the brink of—

DAN: I’m trying to be polite here! Russel! Tell us, what is your job?

RUS: As I’ve already explained, I’m a mathematical forecaster and—

DAN: Nah, nah hold it right there, just hold. My listeners hear “mathematical forecaster” and already…(makes pop/click sound with mouth)…they’re disconnected. Now Rus, tell me: what does a mathematical forecaster do?

RUS: Basically, I use algorithms to forecast systematic—

DAN: EHHH! You use math to predict the future but Rus, nobody can predict the future.

RUS: That’s not true.

DAN: I repeat: nobody. I don’t care who you are, what you do, who you pray to, what kinda computer power your packing, what kind of degrease/degrees (?) your holding, what kind of…tarot cards, and star charts, and tea leaves, and coffee grounds, and pig’s blood, and moon runes, you can never, ever predict what is coming out of my mouth RIGHT NOW. Come on, give it a shot. Try, try, try, SIX backward church dummies, you know, Madagascar, huh?

RUS: S-So what?

DAN: So I just proved my point?

RUS: L-Look, DJ Dan, if what I’m saying is so far off the mark, tell me: why would the UN hire Enzo Valenzetti in 1963 to apply the laws of statistical probability to predict the future? Of mankind?

DAN: Enzo Venza-what-a-whata?

RUS: Enzo Valenzetti...he-he was the greatest mind in mathematical history.

DAN: Then how come I ain’t heard of him?

RUS: Because he died before his prime. He was piloting a plane from Naples to Paris and it just—disappeared. H-he was killed! Killed, DJ Dan. Uh, to hide the truth.

DAN: And what truth might that be?

RUS: After the Cuban missile crisis, the UN decided to fly my field to the prospects of humanity. They hired this [pres-something?] grad student, Valenzetti, to come up with this equation that would help look into the—

DAN: Aright, right. Rusty, Rusty, Rustel, what did this equation say?

RUS: N-n-nobody knows. It was an oral presentation to the UN, and then the whole thing’s been suppressed. And he-he developed it on his own in seclusion.

DAN: Then how do you know this Valenzetti equation even exists?

RUS: Because a book was written about it. I’ve been trying to get my hands on it for years but it’s out of print, and somebody just bought the original publisher.

DAN: Looks like a real conspiracy theory, Rusty. And who, praytell, bought the publishing company?

RUS: The Hanso Foundation.

DAN: SHUT DOWN!! Very clever Rus, very clever, but I’ve seen enough parlor tricks in my day to know when I’m being had.

RACHEL: Maybe you shouldn’t be so quick to shut down your callers, DJ Dan.

DAN: Ooohh, a feisty one! You sound waaay to hot to be one of my conspiraspies. Who am I talkin’ to here?

RACH: Here’s what I know: Remember your Vik Institute show? Mental hospital run by the Hanso Foundation, full of number-crunching savants in a mysterious dark basement?

DAN: Yeah, yeah.

RACH: I know for a fact that it’s full of mathematicians and those savants? They’re running an equation over and over. It’s just like what you said. Mittelwerk doesn’t want a data trail.

DAN: So, uh, so so what, you think they’re running this Valentiki equation?

RACH: Guess you are as smart as you look.

DAN: Ho-ho-ho-ho. If I wasn’t married I’d take you to the Puerto Rican beach where I grew up and marry you on the SPOT!

RACH: Too bad you’re married!

DAN: [Spanish that would take to long for me to do]

RACH: You want to know what I’m wearing? Something cute. Too bad the Hanso Foundation wants me dead. You’ll never get to see.

DAN: Wait a minute, who is this really?

RACH: Persephone.

DAN: Persephone? Talk-tur-Perseph-Tonya! Quick! Trace the call! Trace the call right now! Trace it, come on.

TONYA: Trace it? With my pencil?

DAN: Jus-ah. DJ Dan, more in love than ever before.

“You’re listening to D.J. Dan…shutting down the man!”

On the previous clue comments we've been discussing why Mittelwerk is going to Sanremo, Italy and not Sardinia (where every website I know of that deals with Valenzetti states he was born in 1920's). He died/disappeared piloting a plane between Naples and Paris. So why Sanremo?

Maven: Like you previously stated, GidgetGirl must know something we don't. Either that, or someone made a serious booboo. They'll probably come out and say the Sardinia information was false or that GidgetGirl meant that he LIVED in San Remo but was BORN in Sardinia.

Just a thought.

like i said before, Sanremo is between Naples and Paris - maybe that's where his plane disappeared (aka where he was last seen), and that's why everyone is heading there - maybe Mittelwerk has him tied up there.

also, i agree with whoever said that JJ Abrahams seems to have a penchant for Italian geniuses...first Rambaldi on Alias, and now Valenzetti on LOST...it's interesting, at any rate.

direct observation or participation...

Actually, retract that. ARGs have release dates and scheduled formats behind them. They expect us to keep up.
For example, we got ahead of schedule yesterday with the RDB site, so we won't have those clues to catch up on tonight.
Like trailing behind, we're mostly just along for the ride.

I think the direct observation or participation clue has been translated into "experiences"...someone last night said you could plug each word into the http of the richerbroaderdeeper site and if a "/" showed up automatically...it's the right word. They're prolly gunna have a Q&A session like they did last year with Josh and Maggie, and you'll prolly see me ask a question if they do... It would be pretty cool if Rachel were there tho... we'll have to see. My primary purpose for going is also the art... I got to see and talk to Michael Turner (personal fave), Jim Lee and Jae Lee last year... missed Todd McFarlane, but he doesn't pencil anymore, which kinda sucks.. he was just answering questions about his toys I believe, so I didn't make it a priority to get in there.. this year, hopefully they'll have some of the Lost toys on display or maybe even for early sale!

I will have video from the Con tho, the evening after it all goes down... word...

Blogger mochi said...

acts4food: No characters from the ARG are "offically" scheduled to speak, but I simply have a firm belief that they will. SDCC is huge, this is the third year the Lost crew/creators will be there, and the fact that TLE ARG is occuring at the same time is too much of a coincidence for something cool/big to not go down there. Let me know if you do end up going via email/IM. Getting a group together is first and foremost.

So, really, until a link to some offical announcement of the ARGs involvement is provided to me, I think I'll sit and theorize.

And like ademat said...listen to the Official Lost Podcast, the one right after the season finale, if you want audio "confirmation".

OK I'm getting concerned about DJ Dan.

Either he's too much of a typical conspiracy theories (i.e. obsessed with his own convoluted theories he ignores/doesn't know about anything that doesn't directly tie in) or he's not what he seems.

Now I could buy him not knowing about nanotechnology because it's not a massively known field at this point in time, but the way he was questioning his caller sounded like he was just playing dumb to get more info out of him.

But this latest podcast where he just shoots down the Valenzetti Equation and dismisses it as a prank call is just wrong.

I refuse to believe somebody so obsessed with THF would not know that Alvar Hanso bought up everything to do with the Valenzetti Equation. Any anti-Hanso person worth two hoots knows this (as do we all through the information gained as we've played)!

So yeah, DJ Dan's not adding up any more. I'm not going as far as saying he's Peter Thompon just because they're both from the same place, but unless DJ Dan is just a crackpot (and it would be a shame to learn that after all we've done) I'm convinced there is something suspicious now...

the uber femme - An article on Lostpedia (before it SHUTDOWN!) had E. Valenzetti as being born in Sardinia. Being a fictional character, we can't really verify this with a birth certificate or anything, but SPEAKER stated that the article was "very accurate".

Blogger mochi said...

shakey: Perhaps he has to play dumb, so that he draws less attention to himself. It tends to discredit him quite a bit, but if he has any sort of information he shouldn't have, which we expect he does, then not only would he have to play the fool occasionally too cover for himself, but it also helps to explain why he's moving around all the time.

Do we have a transcript of the article before it went bye-bye?

Blogger omniscient said...

That's a very interesting point, Uber Femme. Where did that information come from originally? Gary Troup does not mention it in his video. The only thing that is mentioned is that Enzo Valenzetti went to Princeton and that he's a Mathematician. I don't know where all the additional info came from.

shakey, I have to agree. We've suspected DJ Dan for a while now, and he just seems to be getting more suspicious. He loves to dote on Persephone and her hacks, but then doesn't seem to know anything about the information P gave us. It doesn't add up. This may all be a part of the podcasts being out of order, but now we have this one that seems to be "real time" almost; due to the interaction with the podcast, RB, the VIK stuff, and RB's posts on her blog.

This brings me to my questions/points:

1. If this is a "real-time" release, then it's after the "sell-out" podcast.
2. If this one is not out of order, why hasn't DJ Dan heard of mathematical forecasting? Didn't he LOOK at THF.org?
3. Since we are fairly certain that he has looked at THF.org since he has mentioned P and her hacks in the past, why play ignorant and try to dismiss it?

Yet another perfect example of not knowing who we can trust. We still don't know P/RB's motives, we don't know who Gidgetgirl is or her motivations, we surely don't know what DJ Dan is up to, the RoT guys don't know themselves what's going on.... aaaaagh! So, who CAN we trust?

Blogger Shakey said...

I entirely agree mochi that he'd have to play dumb in order to remain low-key, especially after the threatening call he had a few podcasts back.

But I also agree that it's discrediting him and entirely unnecessary.

Let's be honest, the very fact that he seems to move around is to ensure his security so he can continue SHUTDOWN the man. But now all he's doing is shutting down his listeners and his credibility.

Truth be told I still think something's going on more than just him playing dumb. I guess we'll see how things pan out...

I'd simply love to know why we can never seem to get a full podcast from him that doesn't start in the middle of a conversation with someone (like a caller) or is cut off prematurely. I guess all of our videos are plauged like that, though. We never get the full story. We have to put things together by ourselves.

Unless the ORIGINAL source of this Sardinia information can be located...I think we have to assume that it was a guess or it was unfounded. Speaker might have meant that the article was "fairly" accurate, but not ENTIRELY accurate. This would back up GidgetGirl's claim that he is from San Remo. Maybe we just took the original information as being too valid...

oo7surge: welcome to the world of the hacker and conspiracy theorist!

At the end of the day I have a strong suspicion that this is now intentional: the only people we can trust are those in this community we've built.

There is no denying the evidence we've been presented with. The information delivered by Rachsephone (OK that's SO bad!!), GidgetGirl and the RoT team do all point to the same premise that THF is up to no good and they are concealing this information. Even randomshirt.com are supplying evidence to support this fact!

At this point in the game, motivations are irrelevant as long as the information comes out and remains consistent: if GidgetGirl leads Rachel astray she'll soon find out. If DJ Dan turns out to be something else then he's not realyl given us anything new or exclusive anyway.

I feel this is leading up to Act 3 where WE finish this off.

Lav, me ole china:

Just a quick counterpoint before I head off to alcohol...erm I mean bed.

I don't fully believe that you need to "dumb down" language of a technical nature when dealing with conspiracies.

In the real world (assuming there is such a thing) the conspiracy theoriest who count usually are intelligent, resourceful or have specific skills to bring to the debate, as most conspiracies are based on technical details, sciences and the such. As a result, there would be no need for DJ Dan or Rachel to talk to the laymen because the laymen isn't listening!

Now although we players of the game are not conspiracy nuts (although I think we will be once this game is done!), we are still intelligent people - you'd have to be to keep up the design of the TV show for a start!

As a result I don't feel DJ Dan is playing dumb to get his callers to talk in layman's terms. He either really is a crackpot or he's dismissing the VALID information, and his reputation is going to mean that his listeners will also likely follow his lead and dismiss it too.

lol @ Rachsephone. Persephel works as well!

I think you're right about the building-up concept, shakey. Acts One and Two will provide us with the information (and socio-mental disorders) required to finish the Third Act and the game. Either that, or the Third Act will be so complicated, that only players that have been keeping up with the things the entire time will have the slightest chance of finishing it, due to the level of complexity, esoteric knowledge, and level of detail in keeping all of the facts, lies, and half-truths straight.

Personally, I look forward to it. Some corporation-made ARGs had prizes or contest puzzles at the end of them, to reward the players with something. Take the 2002 ARG for "Push". $1,000,000 for the winner of that one...

This is from the valenzetti foundation page: Enzo Valenzetti
Very little is known about Enzo Valenzetti, save that he was born in the island of Sardinia sometime in the late 1920's. Identified as a math prodigy from an early age, Valenzetti attended the prestigious Fibonacci State Institute of Advanced Sciences early in life - achieving the equivalent of a full doctorate before the age of sixteen - but his strident desire for privacy, compounded by a gag order placed on his personal information by the Italian government - reportedly in exchange for his services - has thwarted even the most intense of inquiries into his career and movements, and Valenzetti’s death silenced many who sought to tell his story. Similarly, Valenzetti has never published his research - but his reputation is legendary among mathematicians and scientists alike.

That would be pretty cool though if they rewarded people with something at the end...

6/30/2006 05:53:00 PM

mochi: Well, we have nothing else to go on. You would think the TPTB would have put out something somewhere about San Remo as his birthplace. Instead we have this supposed article from Wiki and the valenzettifoundation website (which I KNOW is not in-game). And, no, I didn't mean to infer it was THE island, but meant that it was an island (ha ha) since we are so obsessed by islands lately.

omni: Ah, that kind of sucks. Not like playing the game isn't one of the funnest things I've done in years, but I guess the incentive of a large prize at the end is just a little something extra. One of those "now that you all have spent 3 or 4 months of your life playing this game, here's the prize!" things. Who knows. Actually, this brings up another (non-important) question...

What makes us think that the ARG will end with Act Three? The show may very well continue for another season after that (I have no reference whatsoever on how long ABC has the show scheduled to run so far), so mayhaps the ARG will continue well into the next Season, or again during the next season break (the gap bewteen airing of a new season).

So, aside from all that nonsense, how is everyone else's Friday night?

...and yes, I understand that the validity of the information can be questioned regardless of the original source. In either case, I think it's achedemic at this point anyway.

Mochi - TPTB in a press release or interview (don't remember the source) referred to it as a three act play. They also stated from the get-go that this would be a summer game to pass the time (i.e. maintain interest) between seasons.

Well, this is a temperate zone.

ARTHUR:
Not at all. They could be carried.
SOLDIER #1:
What? A swallow carrying a coconut?
ARTHUR:
It could grip it by the husk!
SOLDIER #1:
It's not a question of where he grips it! It's a simple question of weight ratios! A five ounce bird could not carry a one pound coconut.
ARTHUR:
Well, it doesn't matter. Will you go and tell your master that Arthur from the Court of Camelot is here?
SOLDIER #1:
Listen. In order to maintain air-speed velocity, a swallow needs to beat its wings forty-three times every second, right?
ARTHUR:
Please!
SOLDIER #1:
Am I right?
ARTHUR:
I'm not interested!
SOLDIER #2:
It could be carried by an African swallow!
SOLDIER #1:
Oh, yeah, an African swallow maybe, but not a European swallow. That's my point.
SOLDIER #2:
Oh, yeah, I agree with that.
ARTHUR:
Will you ask your master if he wants to join my court at Camelot?!
SOLDIER #1:
But then of course a-- African swallows are non-migratory.
SOLDIER #2:
Oh, yeah.
SOLDIER #1:
So, they couldn't bring a coconut back anyway.
[clop clop clop]
SOLDIER #2:
Wait a minute! Supposing two swallows carried it together?
SOLDIER #1:
No, they'd have to have it on a line.
SOLDIER #2:
Well, simple! They'd just use a strand of creeper!
SOLDIER #1:
What, held under the dorsal guiding feathers?
SOLDIER #2:
Well, why not?

When you are speaking to a lot of random people at once, you can't really make those assumptions. The interviewer is an intermediary and it's part of their job. Well, that's been my experience. Of course DJDan is working with a niche market, but at the same time a complete novice could come across it. Radio is so immediate... it's not like print media where you can go back and read over things to try and understand what you didn't catch the first time. With the possible Philidelphia Experiment tie-in... maybe the EMP somehow released the island from it's timewarp-bubble-snowglobe to it's original time. (it was already back in time when the plane crashed)

I have no idea where these ideas come from sometimes. Think I'll go and use my toaster to release the pressure from my head

Wasn't the philadelphia experiment teleportation and not time travel. I saw a documentary a while back on it and interestingly they made a sound when the ship teleported which was based on a description of a supposed eye witness, it was incredibly similar to a certain other sound....

Dude...I hate to say it...but that's probably BULLS**T. Anyone can open source code in notepad, type something in (add it) and then take a screenshot. More evidence is needed on that one...perhaps Speaker could clarify...

I still don't buy that Dick Cheever site after seeing a screencap of the sourcecode. It's in notepad, easily edited. the links to other site have not traditionally been the first line of the source code. And if the ROT guys are behind it... look at Manny's flickr images... much better photoshoping!

Evening all. It seems to have quietened down here on the blog. Anyone have any ideas what could be the final RoT word?

What could come after "Welcome. Your next video needs your experiences..."?

Are we awaiting the next RoT forum post to clear this up? Or are we just waiting for Rachel to arrive at her next destination?

6/30/2006 07:34:00 PM
Blogger mochi said...

sam: Both, apparently, although the last part of the RDB.com clue is likely ot come from the ROT crew.

fenris: Apparently, "and found" is, in order to push his non-canon blog.

Sam to the rescue:

I think TPTB have learnt about our combined guile and cunning and are now not releasing information ahead of time. Apparently someone tried experiences yesterday to no avail, yet today, tada!

IMHO, I guess we might have to wait for the final word. ROT guy said he would reveal it to us in person, my guess that means AIM (which I don't have!.

The RoTs have yet to tell us how we are going to use the words we've been collecting. Fiberopticon gave us specific instructions for his particular three words -- which was to put them after the final slash in their Verizon website. However, we have not received instructions on these other words we're collecting, but I believe that may come either tomorrow or Sunday. Perhaps even later tonight, but it's unlikely.

devondude: Yeh, I don't use AIM either, but it makes sense that RoT will use it again. I'm sure some kind Percepticon will post their revelations on here as soon as it happens :) I just hate the waiting, especially as this time last night all the coloured psd files were being discovered!

All in good time I suppose :)

Matt - Do you subscribe to Littletiger's idea of just adding all the words as directories after the RDB domain? You can definitely tell they're different to standard 404 errors... not only does a slash (/) appear but using MSIE the Word W logo in the toolbar is greyed out with any *real* 404 "Page cannot be found" errors, but becomes active when using the RoT words as directories.

Sam to the rescue! asked, "Do you subscribe to Littletiger's idea of just adding all the words as directories after the RDB domain?"

I'm not sure -- from what I understood from Fiberopticon's posts, there are two seperate sets of clues -- the clues that all the RoTs were giving us, and the clues that HE was giving us. [See note 1.] Now, from what I gathered, we were supposed to put only Fiberopticon's clues after the domain name of RDB. [Note 2.]

Main RoT Clues (no instructions on how to use): welcome your next video needs(?) your(?) experience(?)
Fiberopticon called this the "hint hunt" and explicitly stated that there would be at least seven (six + at least one) [Note 2.]

Fiberopticon's clues (put after RDB domain): BLOOD, MONEY, SORROW
Fiberopticon called this "special super secret thing-ama-whatsit," and he explicitly stated that there would be three of his own personal clues, which he refers to by saying "WORD." [Note 2.]

Note 1: If you don't get it you don't get it. - 06/26/06
DSLerator 3:57pm Yeah... hints to a clue that will lead you to a clue. The answers are words that are right in front of your face on the pages of http://richerdeeperbroader.com/.
iobiSeeingYou 4:21pm For security reasons, we'll be posting these hints in a lot of different places and you gotta find them. Then you gotta find the words that answer them. Once you get them all, and we mean all, you can use them.

Note 2: Spy me to the moon. - 06/29/06
Fiberoptician 8:27pm I spoke to this doctor friend of mine and he's agreed to help me the only way he can. A short PS with a WORD that will lead you to the first part of my special super secret thing-ama-whatsit. Parts two and three... humm.. I'll be back.
Fiberoptician 9:40pm Friday, The Drake will clue you into something he's been working on. There will be something in there for the hint hunt and there will be a WORD in there somewhere for part two of my sweetness.
Fiberoptician 9:50am Then on Saturday I will personally give you the final WORD that will give you the final piece of my super excellent secret spy stuff goodness. Oh but I gotta tell you how to use these WORDS...
Fiberoptician 11:05pm When you get a WORD, like the one today, Go immediately to http://richerdeeperbroader.com/, and in the address field type in the WORD right after the / and quicker than Vader can choke a flunky you gets the goodies.

In summary:
"Hint-hunt" = Main RoT words: welcome your next video needs(?) your(?) experience(?)
"WORD" = Fiberopticon's three-part clue: BLOOD, MONEY, SORROW

So, no, I don't think we're supposed to put the "hint-hunt" words after the domain name.

Mochi,
I had thought about the download but this game is infringing on my family and work commitments enough. I was aware of this prior to the podcast telling us not to overdo the ARG, in fact I thought Admin only mentioned that having received a good talking to by my wife! LOL!

I struggle enough with keeping up as the game seems to favour the US timezones and I seem to spend every morning catching up on hundreds of comments... So I guess AIM would only make things worse.
