Clue #70 - Rachel Blake Italy Post 04

Rachel's got a new post. It is about a boat she found called the Helgus Antonius. Let's keep our eyes out for more though!

Also, we have a few links that let you back into the old Hanso Site posted on our sidebar along with other useful information like Speaker's weekly round-ups and our Research Blog. Check it out!

Thanks to Annebeth for being the first to email us about this.

So have we decided if the translation is "Holy Flower" or "weekend antonym" (which is the translation from Swedish)?

And WHY can we now access THF site (albeit with a slightly different address)?

That is not a lower-case i, just a scratched up letter. Also, those containers are empty or loaded with feathers, because that ship is riding high!

Also, these photoshops are getting really bad, look at the picture of the ship leaving with the tug at its side, the ropes are still across the letters because TPTB didn't edit them out. Also, looks like they used MS Paint to black out the actual shipping co. on all the container ends.

I think talk of "Helgus Antonius" anagrams is a rabbit trail. There are soooo many possibilities. The helgus and antonius stuff in wikipedia are better leads.

I wouldn't take the Lake Superior islands off the table yet. Could still be related to the DeGroots (who were apparently just brought up in DJDan's latest podcast).

Ummmm, container cargo ships can reach the equator on the other side of the world babe. Where is Mittelwerk going???"

very disapointing pics. Container ships do ride higher than other vessels, but this one is riding way to high.

Not all containers (they are NOT called crates) have company names on them. Depends on whether or not they are owned by a shipping company or a container company which leases to shipping companies.

The HANSO container is a 40'

Also the vessel does not have its own cranes, which means it has to be going to a port that has suitable containter cranes. I am fairly positive that this vessel is too large to travel the canals to get into the great lakes, I am also not familiar with any shipping lanes in which container vessel travel from the ocean itno the great lakes.

Of course this is a container vessel which means that the vessel could easily got to New York, where the container would be transfered to a train or truck and then sent anywhere in the United States.

Blogger wizardry_eas said...

I saw mentioned about the mix-up between the back and side of the boat in the pictures.
I thought I was looking at the side in pic 2 as well. Now I realise that pic 1, 2, 3 and 5 are all of the back. But as someone already noted there seems to be less containers in pic 5. Why. You would expect more if anything if this was the last picture taken.

7/06/2006 09:52:00 AM
Blogger NobleLawyer said...

the pictures might not be in order. so one pic is where the vessel has not been loaded yet with as many containers.

noble: Thanks for the info. I also believe this ship (and her containers) is essentially empty. I had commeneted earlier on how the "blacked-out" ends of the containers were edited laughably bad. Long story short, there are loads of container ports this ship could be headed for (with its empty Hanso containers, SCARY) and we're supposed to sit back until at least this afternoon to hear where it's going.

however, that ship is not going to make it with all its containers if it is sailing with those containers in that configuration shown in the last pic. See that big U where no containers are on the back? That screws with the vessel's center of gravity. That ship will be rolling like mad dumping containers on either side if she tries to cross the Atlantic like that - or any major shipping lane for that matter.

This site does seem to be too weird too be true: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Helgus. My apologies to Helgus if this is the legit site for her PhD thesis posting. It (mysteriously?) links to the Russian law firm site that hasn't been updated since 2004 and whose chief attorney is Eric Valdez-Martinez? That name rings a bell from the game, but a search of document came up empty for me. Who knows? Maybe it's linked to the DeGroot Private Academy thomas jefferson snodgrass passed today. Or maybe the Helgus Antonius is sailing to St. Petersberg?

oxilli - I am sure that the vessel they used for the last pic was in the process of loading/discharging, but in that pic they added the tug which is between the vessel and the piers (you can see the container cranes on the right) if it was coming in the tug would be on the other side. I am just agreeing that this is a poor job done by the ABC interns.

As a result I am putting little to no stock in these photos. Rachel will have to "spell it out" because this was just too poorly done.

I am sure we will learn that the vessel is one of those owned by that shipping company RB traced in Copenhagen which HANSO is involved with - btw, the copenhagen posts don't appear to be on RB's stop hanso blog anymore - I was trying to go do and check out that article about that shipping company.

GOOD MORNING!!! :)

I am on early! WOW!

Ok, thanks to matt, I was able to get up to speed on those news articles..

My spin on it is, the one that P gave us in the hack was NOT final copy. Maybe the pics in there are more or less, place holders.

The new version was the final print, as if she bought a newspaper and then compared them.

There are only picture differences and one place where the word "retraction" on the newer image is set to center alignment and is now in highlighted with black.

I worked at a newspaper for a short time and got to see how production works.

In a computer program, the publisher would create the file, send it to the editor for finale OK, then she would send back and he would send it to the printer.

I think the copies on the hanso site are pre-editor. Rough dafts so to speak.

The Flower of Life is a geometric pattern inscribed on many of the world's great pyramids and temples, dating back over 6000 years. Ancient civilizations are believed to have meditated on the shape of the Flower of Life for the purpose of manifesting sacred desires. The evolution of the universe is symbolized by the Flower of Life. On the 1st day there was a sphere representing the "Word". Each successive day the sphere rotated upon itself, forming a six petaled flower, giving mathematical reference to Creation. From its three dimensional shape all other sacred patterns may be found, including the Tree of Life, da Vinci's Pentacle and Plato's 5 Platonic Solids. A power symbol, when used for meditation, helps unlock deep memories by activating energy coding in the mind.

I don't know about the logical path being through the Panama Canal, but the draft of the canal ranges from 40-80 feet. More than enough draft for a vessel of that size fully loaded so, that should not be a problem.

AS far as shipping lanes, it would depend on where on the equator the equitorial island was. Also the island would need an appropriate container crane since the vessel pictured does not have any. That to me means it is not the lost island (unless the Lost island contains a container port which we have not been shown on the show).

Also the Panama Canal is fairly higly guarded and any suspicious vessel with suspicious manifests are checked so if one was carrying secret cargo that one did not want anyone to know about, it would be best to avoid any canals. i.e. the Panama or Suez.

o.k. so I predict that Rachel finds out that the Helgus Antonius belongs to the Allied Copenhagen Marine Merchants. And somehow finds the ports manifests or bills of lading and sees where the vessel is going.

My question. HOW THE HELL did Rachel get into the port? I have not been to any ports in Italy, but I have been to ports throughout the gulf coast, England, the Netherlands, and Denmark. One does not have the ability to simply stroll in to take walks.

Someone would have to pay alot of $$$ to buy out a whole ship of empty containers though. It's like the trucking industry, they only make money if they are shipping something. So why pay that much money for a ruse?

Sorry my bad OX. I was thinking that you were saying that the ship that was "supposed" to be leaving port was an empty ship. I agree with you on the fact that they screwed up and used some bad stock photo's "if the ship was supposed to represent a ship leaving port"

This may have been mentioned, I can't remember, but the helgus_3 pic and the helgus_5 pic are two different ships. Notice the generator type motor things on the back of helgus_3 versus the total disappearance of the generators on helgus_5. Not to mention the cut and paste of the ships name with the ropes that weren't taken out as previously mentioned.

7/06/2006 01:56:00 PM
