Clue # 84 - Fragment Codes "M6XY398" & "3ZGT" & RoT Update

Fragment Codes
Over at The Lost Ninja's Blog our next glyph fragment code has been found. "M6XY398" is of Mr. Beardy saying, "After the Cuban missile crisis, both nations decided to find a solution. The result..." The next code, "3ZGT" was found on a page at The Fuselage . The transcript of this one reads, "The precise location of the facility is known only to myself."

*See Clues 77-80 for more info on glyphs, fragment codes, and hansoexposed.com or check out Matt the Pale's summary of all the found fragment codes at...Matt the Pale's HansoExposed Video Fragment Code List

Retrievers of Truth
The RoT guys updated their page and BroadBandBeatnik is back and was also at Comic Con and has this picture from the show.

Thanks to Lavenda, DazzedElf, Lost Soul, Pilferk and Sid for being the first to e-mail us this update.

So what happened to the whole "hidden all over the web" aspect of this? We're hearing them on podcasts and now they're being fouund in the real world? It's cool, but why are they changing the rules?

I'm proud of myself ... I actually waited until *after* I'd found it to hop on here :)

Sean - I think the certainly have a plan. But what puzzels me is that RB said scour the web for them and yet they have been in the real world too. Which is cool. But it is a conflict of what she said. And as far as finding them. They have either been handed to us from one of the 3 major blog operators or just magically apear from mysterious posters like Catseye...this has not been too much fun...the fun part has been putting the pieces together...but big deal! I want to have to use team work and some brains to find these glyph codes...In act one the clues were good and the methods to figure them out were amazing...this seems very ho-hum to me....

thrasher, I totally agree with you. What's the point of having us go through all the trouble of hunting this video piece by piece if they're just going to put it right out there. And I notice we've never had to check pages inside of pages ... you go to the main page, and BAM, either the glyph is there, or there's a direct link to it. At least with some of the other clues, you had to go to the site, find the link that led to it (and it was usually some innocuous link like the one on the Aussie message board for the sound file) and then figure it all out. This ... not fun.

i agree thrash. this whole part of the game should have been more like an internet scavanger hunt. the outcome of the game would be controlled by the players. instead, tptb are guiding us through every last inch. it seems to me that it would be more fun if we had to find the glyphs on our own.

I understand they have to release things gradually or else obsessive people will just find everything, but just feeding these things to us through the sources they've used so far has been pretty basic. They haven't been hard to find and as a result it's just been about people spending more time online refreshing pages to get on the leaderboard rather then actually doing anything clever. It's a fair typical design for online games really, rather then gearing the game to the skilled player with less time they gear it towards the obsessive power gamer that simply has too much time on their hands.

This is getting boring now, yes.

I hope that TPTB are reading these message boards and are taking us, THE FANS, into consideration as they tweak the game...this truly is not much fun. I thought they would be pointing us into a direction and then off we go and find it...not posting them on sites we all check daily...So, yes I am salty, and yes I am not enjoying this phase...The fragments are cool, I can't wait to see the entire thing....other than that...meh!

It would have been kinda cool if the glyphs were already in the sources we've downloaded and seen over the first two episodes. Had they thought that far ahead. I mean why couldn't Rachel think ahead like that. She just had to say to herself "there is going to be something big at some point and I'll need a code system", yes.

I've really been enjoying the game, but I have to say, this phase is just not good for anyone's enthusiasm.

We get a heads up on hansoexposed that another fragment has been released, so we all start searching through the sites on an absolutely fruitless hunt, thinking that we have clues from Manny or Wally that we need to decipher.

Then 12 hours later, Lost Ninja just happens to be strolling past a glyph posted on a pole? C'mon now. I'm willing to suspend disbelief to a pretty great extent, but Rachel jumped a plane to Australia after Comic Con just to post a flyer???? And the in-game Australian blogger is the one that finds it?

I guess that leaves the 12000 rest of us just sitting back and waiting for Speaker and Lost Ninja to just happen to stumble across a glyph in their Cheerios.

*sigh*

I don't think they thought through how to release 70 glyphs/codes into the wild very well. Rachel said to scour the internet...

She didn't really say that. She said she had hidden clips everywhere the web, and glyphs would find their way to a trusted few. I think we've now figured out who the trusted few are...but yeah...too easy, and too frustrating if you ask me. I want some cryptic clue that will lead us to like ABC.com and then we have to actually look for the glyph. I do not like the OH there it is aspect of this whole phase.

Good morning, all!

In case anyone is interested, I finished the Hatch jigsaw puzzle last night. I'll have some photos tonight that I can share. I couldn't get any good photos of the back because of the glow-in-the-dark, but it's part of the blast door map, featuring the arrow station. I compared the notes that I took to a photo of the map from Lostpedia, and it looks like the puzzle version has extra notations.

****possible spoilers****

Here's what I saw that looked new:

Arrow Station
Primary function
restocking and staging area for DIHG

hub of DIHG
road system or other major route of overland travel?

suspected shutdown date 10-28-84

final destination in case of code 42?

possible terminal for subterranean EFP tunnel network

I'm not sure if all that is new, or if I just didn't see it, but there you go. There's also a long string of numbers like tapdawg found on his puzzle, but I was too tired to keep re-glowing the puzzle enough to write them all down. If anyone wants to see it, I can try again tonight.

I've had a closer look at the exact times fragments were released and found and my theory is this:
First came the wristbands and Rachels appearance at comiccon, so people were introduced/alerted to Phase 3.
Folks figured out the first two fragments (on HE) but it was too late for the wristbands, so between 6 and 12 hours later Speaker and Ninja put them on the web.
Then Rachel gave us one, followed by the one found (?) by the elusive catseye (in France?). No one else found it or shared it, so again Ninja jumped in and gave it to us after having been prompted by a blogger.
The next one came from Speaker c. 7 hrs after release (had it been out there somewhere?)
Then came two from Britain - the EW one was found within minutes, Channel 4 within less than 2 hrs.
The next two from DJ Dan and Rachel herself were found within 5 minutes.
#15 came at 23.51 GMT on the 26th (mid-day in AUS) but still had not been found about 12 hrs later - which is when Ninja stepped in.
My guess is that TPTB put them out there - God knows where - on the web and in the real world and if we haven't figured it out 6-12 hrs later, they spoonfeed them to us. We are just too dumb... or are we? Please listen PTB, if you put them out in the real world you're gonna have to give us a hint or two that a relatively intelligent person can figure out (or our 12,000 strong collective brain at least). Otherwise I might as well go down to the village shop here in the West of Ireland and check cereal packets for fragments, or maybe dog got it tatooed onto her belly last night...? Seriously, it's like going on a scavenger hunt, going in f****** circles, arriving back at base only to be handed the spoils. Here you are! The answer was right here all along but I wasn't gonna give it to you until now!

But with only 12000 people playing the game and a glyph being able to appear in any random place? They would never get found.

Well, how many people played I Love Bees? That game had players running around answering payphones at specific coordinates, and a code was not activated until a certain number of phones were answered to make an area "hot". It would be great if Manny's pictures actually led to clues in the real world, I just don't think they want them to!

It's odd really. The real world stuff seems to have been a bit badly thought out. Most of the people at the comicon had no idea to look for glyphs because the site had literally only just been launched. They combined a publicity stunt for launching the site (nice as it was to have Rach there live, that was what it essentially was) with the first whole batch of clues for said site. Okay, I get that they didn't want to miss the oppertunity for the clues, and getting Rach there was a must, but they should have launched the site earlier rather then putting the T-Shirt stunt.

Then there is this Poster ninja found. I mean did they just put a poster up at a random location somewhere on THE PLANET EARTH and then when no one found it (duhh) they sent ninja to pick it up. Okay, not the best plan.

The Manny photo's are a good plan, but it seems to have backfired as he apparently picked the three locations in their respective countries where no experience players live. I mean I could hop on a train to Oxford, but I can't really afford the time or the money right now. Maybe by next weekend but I have a feeling they will have given up on that by then.

I mean I suspect there isn't actually anything there anyway. Also I had a vision of a newspaper article saying "man breaks back falling off shark. Was said to be looking for a "Glyph"." yes?

final destination in case of code 42?

possible terminal for subterranean EFP tunnel network

Also, the numbers were above the other info - judging by your map, they would be off the area shown. I'm guessing that if you get all four puzzles and put them together, you'll get the full map. The image on this one only covers the left side.

The front was cool, but didn't really show anything that we didn't already know about, I don't think.

We could only sit there and wait for you super geniouses to feed it to us. So, this is a little like what you are feeling, that is why! It is our turn to have a chance to be first.
That said, I am disapointed that the glyphs themselves to not lead tot he next glyph...that would have been the best way to play! I spent about 8.5 hours after the first three glyphs desperately looking for the pattern that lead to the next glyph only to have it spoonfed again and NO CONNECTION to the other three! I thought for sure even Jim and Pam working together could figure that out! Thanks a lot to TPTB for not giving us at least that much of a treasure hunt!

The real challenge is in making the HE site work properly! For example....Quit losing my clips! and when I put them in MY order, let them play...do not replace with static! i think what makes it boring is that we aren't really progressing in the story...

before when rachel posted we would be furthering in her story and her progress...

Now we just get clips about 2-5 seconds long that shw us precious little more about what's going on and thus we are bored.

sean, martin: we will never see the real equation for three reasons. 1) it doesn't exist, it cannot possibly exist 2) if they made one up, tptb know the intelligent fanbase would tear it apart 3) if the want to preserve the reality of the arg, releasing it would give knowledge of the "date of armageddon" to anyone who could solve it, causing worse things than what thf is doing.

only read the first half of the post but agree with the general sentiment that is phase is not as fun. the first waas involved hacks, and the second was hidden videos. Some thought and cleverness had to go into that phase. This phase does not involve any thought whatsoever. It is just an accident of timing. who happens to be the first to refresh the IG pages. Is it me or is the game progressively being dumbed down?

Yeah, I have not been the first to figure out the previous clues and hacks but I reveled in other's intelligence and ingenuity.

michaelp: It's an aspect of all of us working together. You can save that URL on your clipboard and post it to a blog or chat group like this one. It saves you the labor of writing all the glyph codes in the order you think they go.

That's also the theory behind the "send" link -- you can email that URL to anyone.

Okay, I understand the frustration folks are feeling for how these glyphs are being presented. I am/was still half hoping they were spoonfeeding the first few so we could catch on and then start making them more of a challenge, but we have found a fifth of the fragments already... so TPTB, if you are lurking, We understand how it works!!! Start making it interesting again! ;)

That said, we are a fifth of the way through, so this can only drag on another couple of weeks, right? Wait, what am I saying? Not two more weeks of this please!!!!

I do think that this phase would be better if we could find glyphs and piece together the Sri Lanka video while simultaneously keeping tabs on Rachel's progress around the world. But I have a feeling that would be logistically and narratively way to complex to manage for TPTB.

Just keep telling yourselves that the payoff will be worth it, and meanwhile watch some season 1 DVDs.

On a separate thread of thought... something mentioned earlier today/yesterday about stuff from here in the ARG making it into season 3 started me wondering...

Now, let me make clear, I am just throwing this out there, but do not want to start another spoiler bomb conversation like i accidentally got into yesterday (I swear it was the boredom that blinded me)...

I was thinking that the "Beardy Hanso/Not Hanso Dharma guy" orientation video can easily be discovered/shown early in season 3. Without discussing how Season 2 ended, this makes the most sense to me since this film is from 1975, and one can imagine that it would give our losties a greater understanding of the hatches and their prior inhabitants, etc.

Yes, I realize this is a "Captain Obvious" statement for many of you, but c'mon, it's a slow day! Anyhow, I think this is the easiest connection for the writers to make in season 3, and though the idea of Rachel eventually getting on the island would be neat, I don't think that as likely... but this is just me thinking outloud...

Do you guys really think this is a bug?

Let me explain...when I placed my clips in sequence that I think is correct I then go to view my sequence to see how it plays together. At certain points in my spliced video it goes to the test (fuzzy) picture instead of what i have there. So, I restarted my browser like so many suggest, and when i return 4 of the clips are in my storage tray and only the ones that played correctly are in the timeline withblanks where the "fuzzy" test shots were.

My order is NOW like this using #1-#15 slots on the timeline...
#1-4HO
#2-748L
#3-OHGE
#4-blank
#5-GMX18BCJ
#6-blank
#7-88CH
#8-7HKBH
#9-blank
#10-blank
#11-3GTVI0M11
#12-RRGYXS
#13-FVH7N
#14-IG3X
#15-VDADOS7YREO

My question is, is this a bug or a helpful hint???

Please tell me I am not the only one experiencing it this way!

Now...I know some of you think it is not really worth trying to figure out the sequence just yet but I refuse to wait until the 60th clip, that would be NUTS!

Blogger CJ said...

Hey everyone, I just scanned the comments to see if anyone said this yet and I couldn't find it, so here I go...

You'll notice that many of the clips start with a very quick, one-frame shot of something else (many of which are a shot of Mr. Beardy's face, either close up or far away, and then other video footage of something else, like the UN security council shot, for example). The key to putting these videos in order is recognzing these quick initial frames to many of the videos. AND, thanks to them, it is clear that the newest video (M6XY398) of Mr. Beardy talking about "After the Cuban Missle Crisis..." follows DIRECTLY after the video clip discussing the cold war between the US and the Soviet Union (XIGZ2Y10S2). The reason we know this for sure is because at the end of the cold war clip, a plane takes off into the sky showing the blue sky in the background; when you start up the clip with Mr. Beardy discussing the cuban missle crisis, the first frame is a single shot of that EXACT sky, hence they are back-to-back clips.

As always, don't hate me if I'm repeating something that is blatantly obvious to everyone. Thanks! :-)

Yes I loved the poster in Australia and it give me hope about this game, and the sentence that Speaker post on his blog is truly inspiring and mysterious. What i like is to research, to look into the bottom of it for clues for answers.

Maybe they slowed it down on purpose party for that reason? They don't want their fans fired over TLE?

Also I like being able to examine a few clips at a time and think more deeply about theory. If this is the equivelant of a musical bridge to the next verse, a change in tempo is appropriate.

It's more fun when it's faster and we have more to do but maybe it also isn't as good for us?

roomforhuman: Dharma is a philosophical parallel to "shen tao," or the way of spirits...otherwise known as Shinto. Not without deeper meaning is the connection to John 14.6: "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." Many gnostic scholars think Jesus could have met a Buddhist sect in his travels through the Eastern desert.

The blank screens just mean there's an empty frame in your ordering. I don't think we have 16 consecutive clips yet, so there will by definition be some gaps. The only difference is whether you as the user string all the clips together for ease of organization, or if you try to estimate their place in the final lineup of 70.

heather-
Thanks for compiling all the glyphs... I've been doing some Googling, and the only thing I came across so far that seems like it could be relevant to some of the glyphs is this page... http://www.sacred-texts.com/atl/ssm/ssm09.htm
Towards the end it has some glyphs that look like ones we've seen, like the swirly-looking "e" from the first glyph and a rectangle that looks like part of one of the others... They stand for letters, as well as symbols of objects or concepts. Not sure what this could mean yet, but it's a place to start!

I saw the direct link for the new frag on The Fuselage, but was wondering if anyone knew how to navigate to it from the Fuselage homepage. I don't recall a forum titled "Egg", but then again, when I was active on there, it was just in the Spoilers section :)

noble, if you haven't already created an account at the Fuselage, do so, otherwise you can't view the diary.

Once you have created a username and logged into the Threaded Board, scroll down, looking at the right side of the page, and under all the icon advertisements for the DVDs and books, you will see a "legal pad" icon with the word DIARY written across it ... click that and it will bring you right to the glyph.

Anyone here on the Shockwave.com newsletter/email list?

While we were hunting for fragment #16, I got this week's shockwave email whose subject read:

Use your puzzle magic to save a planet in Glyph

...So of course I wasted much of my search time on the shockwave site looking for clues.

Sigh... oh well...

I'm starting to agree with the theory that the blank screen/staticy screen indicates your frags are in the wrong order, but has anyone experienced where the player just skips a clip?? Because that keeps happening to me.

trouble with saving sequences on HE.com:
I was having trouble but figured a way to have it save my 16 frags in the order I want...
basically I drag each frag into a storage space and then drag it back into where I want it saved... did this for all 16 and then hit save... when the link pops up for the saved sequence, I clicked on it, and hit continue on the new screen, and it loads my sequence properly (you can verify that all your frags are there via the x/16 thingy)...

It's a pain to do, but once I started doing that, no problems...

I really don't think the static screen means anything about the order of the fragments. I changed the order of my fragments (see above) and I didn't get any static screens. When you put your fragments in order (in other words, take them out of storage), if you put them all next to each other, you won't get any static screens. If someone still gets static screens after they have placed their fragments in this way, then please say so. Otherwise, I think they just mean that there's an empty frame in your organization.

And the HE.com site is really buggy. I've had to re-order and re-save my clips a couple times to get the save to "take."

I agree with kyle regarding the static screens... HE is just unstable especially with the number of users logging in and saving sequences... for a while I thought it was saving someone else's sequences in mine's stead.

So.
I have them all together but in view I only get 14 and 2 skips in between.

we've discussed the clip-skipping several times here... it's just a bug on the HE site. People (myself included) have saved the sequence and had it skip over clips once, then go back and put them in the same order and save and it works. There doesn't seem to be any significance to the skipping...

Need to ask this again:
At http://www.garytroup.net/links.php - has there always been a clickable link to THF.org?
I was over the site with a fine comb yesterday after Speakers rambles and I don't remember it. Anyone?

oodles: Now go back to your page on HE.com, and see if there are two clips that somehow got booted back to Storage. Put them back where they were. Hit save. Once you've hit save, click on the link to view your complete clip. If you don't have __ out of 16 loading, then you know the save didn't take. Close that window, hit save again, and repeat. If they still don't take, save it and then send it to yourself. THAT link should finally have all 16.

This is what it was doing to me. I didn't change the order, I just had to re-save a ton of times and then all 16 fragments stuck.

I've found that in order to get all 16 fragements saved this works:
Drag them all to storage and then back down again. Then hit save. I've tried this a couple of times and it always works.

Blogger tapdawg said...

i don't think there's any special trick that you need to do in order to save them. It all depends on the amount of users online at the time you try to save and the servers... if theres too many users on then it gets slow and buggy and won't save.

7/27/2006 02:59:00 PM
Blogger tapdawg said...

think of it this way.

There's 13,000 of us... each with 15 clips...

that's close to 200,000 clips it needs to save... that's alot of information.

This is what gets me salty....this is boring and not fun...

I agree with Belly and many others that I have really enjoyed this game and still think it is a ton of fun...but this is kind of boring...we have not even seen that many of "us" on the leader board...and there are thousands of "us"...

Sorry for my Rant!

Static test screens and the HE Timeline:
I've been researching this and listening to people's comments. I don't have it figured out but here's what I do know.

You can put all the clips on the timeline next to each other, go to view, and then some of your clips get replaced by the test screen.

You can then change your order until all the clips will play in View and none are replaced by a test screen.

There is more than one order that plays all the clips with none being replaced by the test screen. It would require more fiddling than I have time for to figure out what calculation is driving when it skips one and when it plays them all.

As for skipping a clip without replacing it with a test screen or skipping around the clips, I don't have enough data yet.

thx kyle
I did a bit of reordering and now get 16/16 - not sure if it's due to reordering, saving, or luck.

7/27/2006 03:17:00 PM
Blogger NiteSea said...

so do we think there's any significance to the order in which these pieces are released? If you looked at the xml when the most recent glyph was released, it wasn't the 16th in the list, it was 15th... could that mean something or am I just stretching for something in the boring downtime between glyph releases?

nitesea,
was wondering about that as well - last night (GMT) #15 and #16 were released but one of them was taken down again, probably the one that was put back as #15 today. Might have just been an error (released too early).

I hate to repeat myself, but I will anyway..........Put all of the clips into storage and then drag them all down again. Hit Save. It will save all 16. It also dosen't matter which order they are in. I put them all out of order purposefully and played them in view mode. It played all 16 with no test screen skips.
