This post is just to alleviate the lag from the many comments in Clue #71. There's a lot of good theory discussion going on, and we wouldn't want the discussion to stop because of lag issues.

Dang!

I posted this on the previous comments but we all switched so I thought I would bring it over.

Caught up at last.
Sorry I wasnt around to answer your question experimentalfilm but I saw someone beat me to an answer.

Thanks for the replies. As I was going through the comments I noticed that many mentioned what I did. But one thing.

It was mentioned but I am thinking maybe important. There definately was another hacker on the THF site. WHO??? I am still thinking that P might not be RB. If this is not the case then I feel the other hacker will come into the game at some point. But someone IMO intended to impersonate P on more than one occasion and the obvious person to me seems to be RB.

And I think it is only fair game that this is discussed as it came up in DJDan podcast. Was that supposed to make us question it.

Of course - as I said in my previous post "they could be messsing with us".

And I forgot to put in the person that DJDan didnt shutdown in the podcast. I, at the time, thought that the next caller was this caller. Thanks for letting me know of the Rose/Bernard link. I think the fact that it wasnt shutdown seems likely to be significant in some way.
It is almost as if DJDan is toying with us. Giving us some kind of cryptic clue. He offers many things to throw us off course such as "fruitles" and the fact that he quickly went through and "shutdown" all the calls. He usually picks up one significant one in his podcasts doesnt he?

Do you guys think there's any possibility that Penny Widmore is Rachel's mom? The last we actually saw her it was about 2000/2001 (in LOST time) She could have been in her 40's (do you think?) Therefore, she was about 20 years old when she had Rachel. Penny didn't seem to have been married yet. She became engaged to Desmond (her father put a stop to that) and she was engaged to someone else now (in 2004 LOST time). So Rachel was "out of wedlock" from her past. Now, as the fact that we're assuming that Rachel's mother is dead: We know that Penny isn't dead (as of 2004), but Rachel could have been raised by someone else or was adopted since Penny wasn't married and in her circle that was frowned upon. But, feeling guilty about that, Penny Widmore made sure Rachel got a good job and career at Widmore Corporation. So Rachel's adoptive mother or whomever raised her is the person who is now dead!

All this is just off the top of my head. I'm trying to think how Widmore Corp. is going to play a bigger role in this story, since that's where we seem to be headed.

Ok, I just put this on the other thread, so I'm puting it here too.

The whole "good ones - bad ones" thing always makes me think of Jekyll and Hyde.

Doctor Jekyll, studying the duality of man, creates a potion, injects himself and becomes Hyde.

From Wiki -

". . . a confession from Jekyll which reveals what occurred when he realised that every man has two aspects within him – good and evil – which constantly wage war upon him. Acting on the theory that it was possible to polarise and separate these two aspects, he created a potion that could change a man into an embodiment of his evil side, thereby also making pure his good side. After using the potion on himself, Jekyll became physically smaller as his evil nature became predominant; this persona was called Edward Hyde. After a few trial runs as Hyde, Jekyll soon began to undergo this change regularly in order to indulge in all the forbidden antisocial pleasures that he would never commit as Jekyll. However, the Hyde aspect himself began to grow stronger and beyond Jekyll's ability to control it with a counter-agent."

Maybe the psychological testing on the island is more physical.

Ok, I'm reaching. But I did think of Jekyll and Hyde. :)

Maven, I don't think that's realistic. I think RB has a firm belief that her mom is dead and Pen wouldn't go into hiding from her own child.

Admin:
The way we we see it is that Speaker and Lost Ninja had no idea either. The fact that Lost Ninja updated his blog (at the time) to say that it was just his opinion of RB=P shows IMO that he couldnt say he was sure either. It seems to me that they have now just jumped on the bandwagon because Rachel mentioned it ONCE. Despite all our goings on the fact she mentioned it once (and reluctantly it seemed to me) only suggests something fishy. It coming up again in the DJDan podcast makes me think fishy even more. (unless as I said they ARE just messing with us or the DJDan podcast is pre-recorded so has no connection to our comments on the subject but if that was the case it would suggest in itself that we would have issues believing this which would still make it a deliberate act making us argue over P=RB for either reason put above so I dont believe this one and the fact that we have all been complaing recently makes me think that it would be too bold of them to "mess with us" right now. Could be wrong about that though.

Unless of course I have missed something and Lost Ninja and Speaker HAVE given us a solid lead or confirmation of this. If so then sorry.

Just to throw it into the discussion, now that we have a solid tie to Widmore, Bad Twin (though I still can't figure why TPTB had such a problem with this book and Hanso bashing) mentions that Alvar Hanso sat on the Widmore board, but that his position was taken over by Mittlewerk. This being a work of fiction, possibly nothing to think twice about, BUT something got Hanso to take out all of those ads against Bad Twin. Just thought I'd give it a mention as it's an in-game way that Hanso and Widmore are tied together..also the book mentions Widmore having environmental violations in obscure corners of the Earth (obscure like where a huge boat that doesn't exhist might go?). That's my two cents...

"I hope that if it was a hack that messed up the newspaper images, that it was the first images of the pages that were hacked, and now Rachel has made the site secure again with the proper images up now. And that it has been so long since her last post because she's been busy verifying how secure her site is now."

wizardry --

I am in the camp that RB=Persephone, and feel that certain clues would now othewrwise be almost as non-sensical as those that caused the stir in the first place. For instance, her chat conversation with WTK where she clearly calls herself "Rachel" and makes an anagram of Persephone reflects that BEFORE the game began, she used inside information (some file) in March to cancel the Jeep deal with Hanso, because of what the Foundation was doing (presumably in Africa). There would be virtually no reason for a "plant" to do that, at least not before the game began. I think DJ Dan's reference today was as much as anything a tribute from the writers, of which Javi is one, to the abilities of fans like those here to catch errors that have required in-game explanations (weak or otherwise) to reconcile them.

I also think if RB is not Persephone, it makes Act III a little awkward because TLE won't have a lot of time to tie their common anti-Hanso goals together. Assume that RB is trying to mislead the public. She's doing so by discrediting the company's principals. Yet, even before we met her, that is exactly what Persephone was doing to.

I have never subscribed to the notion that she isn't who she says she is. I realize many will disagree with me. And I know there are ways to script shock solutions. Nonetheless, I think we'll see RB's agenda continue as it has been the past few weeks.

Yes it was you lhorse007 that mentioned the IP addresses of those sites being the same. So how was that site discovered? Has it been referenced in game yet? If not then maybe no passwords will work until it is meant to go live.

Although "allveggie" was obscure it did have relevance as a passowrd. Mittelwerk was a vegeterian (vegan maybe I cant remember). I still cant help but feel that we were supposed to get that before Rachel posted the info. It seemed like a really hard one to come up with though despite the relevance. If anyone can reverse engineer that last password so that we could understand how it was supposed to be figured out then maybe we could get this one before Rachel posts.
I may be way off here in that there is no way we could have got the allveggie pasword without Rachel and even if hansoexposed.com is ready to go live yet but just in case.

I survived a horrific plane crash and am stranded on an island somewhere Northeast of Australia and Southwest of Hawaii. In the event that I am never found, please forward word of my fate to my parents.

It seems that you need to start travelling towards the Pacific Ocean while we narrow down the location of the island.

Glad that you're safe.

I read 'Bad Twin'. In the book Arthur Widmore said that AH was a gentleman. Everyone on the Widmore Board except Cliff Widmore believed TWM was dangerous. If you consider the theory that TWM has something to do with AH's disappearance and not in a good way. It's possible TWM pushed the ads against 'Bad Twin' because he couldn't even handle a work of fiction saying something against him. I think in the Gary Troup interviews he eludes to the fact that some things aren't entirely fiction as well.

Does anyone wonder why someone as young as Rachel (probably just a couple of year out of college) gets a "severence pay" from Widmore Corp? According to wiki, it's usually sick or vacation pay owed to someone who retires or is laid off. How much could she have accrued over a few years of working? This comes back to a crazy theory I had today.

******************SPOILER***********************************

Thinking about the severence pay thing today -- may her mom, Penny, made sure she got a nice payment because she was guilty about abandoning her. I'm sure this is full of hold a mile wide!

I wonder if the producers are just saying that it's a real band to give some veracity and add t the intrigue. Unless, for instance, it was the college band of on of their friends, and it's a sideways shoutout that's become part of the Lost mythos?

So, part of this whole mystery about what THF is up to could also relate to the Earth's magnetic field. Some of you may have heard that it is currently in a state of "flipping" (my highly technical term...). I've been interested in this subject for a while as I think it has a lot to do with this supposed "global warming" thing that every newscaster likes to blame on pollution. Okay, here's a few sites to check out while I get my theory on THF more put together.....

Sue0214:

I think what you're thinking of is that shortly after it was revealed that the phone calls were the original clue, some sites posted translations of the Danish radio host who mentioned that the listener was listening to Geronimo Jackson. I don't recall ever seeing the lyrics or song titles listed.

HOWEVER, those same transcripts DID note that the name of Geronimo Jackson's first album was "Magna Carta." That also was what was originally posted on the original Geronimo Jackson website (since removed).

I don't know if anyone has tried "Magna Carta" or "magnacarta" as a password to the so-called new hansoexposed site yet. However, if not, I suppose there's no harm trying.

Hey there...just checking in. Saw the query re: severance. Yes, you get severance when you're laid off. Some companies are more generous than others. Especially if they are trying to get rid of a group of people and they don't want a lot of folks complaining. High tech companies are notorious for paying exceptionally well (even after the high tech bubble burst) and a six month package for someone who's been at a company for a few years is not unreasonable. I know at the company I worked at previously there were a few folks we wanted to get rid of...they weren't great team players etc...so we "restructured" the department and got rid of them. They all got six months plus a week for every year of service plus their vacation. If RB had worked at Widmore for a couple of years at a salary of say $75K, she would have had some change to bribe with.

What if those shout outs are going to be user names or passwords for the HansoExposed site? Some folks were really surprised but I noticed every name as very active participants in this ARG.

... I said it was off the wall.

If I remember correctly there was a lot of debate about whether or not the Geronimo Jackson site was in game. I can't remember if anyone ever checked the IP address before it disappeared. If there is a cached version perhaps someone can check it still?

I appologize if this has already been posted. I've been reading here for a long time, just don't have time to get involved in the discussions usually!

I've been wondering what the significance of the Alvar Hanso Narvik photo / cardboard cutout that DJ Dan mentioned in his podcast is? His entire podcast was dedicated to "Where is Alvar Hanso?" I did a search for "Narvik" and it came up as a port city in the Arctic Circle, in Norway.

I found some interesting info on the Port of Narvik here (sorry, don't know how to post links)

http://narvikhavn.imaker.no/cgi-bin/narvikhavn/imaker?id=45&visdybde=1&aktiv=45

...including some key points:

• Narvik has the country’s largest dry-bulk transit port
• The necessary infrastructure to handle all types of ships
• Deep-water quay with no depth restrictions
• Northern Norway’s only Gantry-container crane
• Ice free port, well shielded from wind and adverse
weather conditions

Some rough calculations between the San Remo port gave me just over 1500 nautical miles. A large ship traveling at say, 20 knotts could get there in what, 3-4 days? Could this be DJ Dan giving us, or Rachel, a clue to what port we should be looking at?

This has seemed by far the best place for TLE discussions and I'd love to hear your guys thoughts on this.

[REpost from much earlier deleted posts]
Wiz & LHorse --

Thanks, I sometimes think I go unheard when I'm reading everyone else's post, but I JUST caught up on this...

I knew about HansoExposed.com, but the Admin passed through the previous board to this one (clue # 71) much earlier today and threw it back out there... since noone was connecting it to the possible GJ clue nor mentioning that password box, I kept hammering it and it seems you WERE listening... Woo-Hoo

But the Admin mentioned the new UN/PW box first today and it had already been confirmed as an in-game site

Wiz - you sometimes jump the shark trying to get your info out before someone else, but when you take your time I find your contributions worthwhile!!

Maven- I'd thought that was how you were entering the passwords, BUT yeah, typos happen to me too and i do go back [delete post], then repost when it's vital as to understanding the details...

Now, speaking of clues or NOT... what if instead of signing off with an obscure reference (Calabash was of knowledge in my life history, but not everyone's here), what if she started off with an in-game reference just so that everyone wouldn't spend hours on something that isn't a clue -- OH, wait, LMAO - for awhile I was the only one playing (out loud) with her reference to Geronimo Jackson, so if it's still RBlake and the password has to do with GJ; hopefully it won't be as obscure as "allveggie" was (there's no way we could have figure that one out!!)

g'nite all... I'm on the job being a hand double for some famous geezer for I don't know how long tomorrow, so I'm not near the keyboard... Give me some credit (no stickers necessary LMAO ;-) if I deserve it...

I'm crazy jet-lagged so forgive me if I'm quasi-hallucintating but I'm starting to think that "The Holy Flower" is a lotus, which, as has been mentioned, is the symbol of creation in hinduism. ( Not a stretch in the context of THF's use of the hindu "Namaste" and " creating a better tomorrow.")

Check it out ( from http://www.hindunet.org/faq/fom-serv/cache/39.html): "...It is described that when divine life-substance was about to put forth the universe, the cosmic waters grew a thousand-petalled lotus flower of pure gold... This was considered to be a doorway... Thus, lotus is the first product of the creative principle...."

And most tellingly, "The role of Lord Brahma was to re-create the universe after the great flood on this planet. In order to create the universe, He used the different parts of the lotus plant. "

Perhaps Alvar fancied himself a later-day Lord Brahma. Using the different arms of THF/parts of the lotus to recreate the earth after the Valenzetti equation plays out.

So perhaps er... LOTUS is the new password? Rachel certainly wants us to figure out what the holy flower means for a reason. Or maybe LOTUS is the overarching mission of the hanso foundation from which all other projects and intitiatives spring?

I should get some sleep, right?

One way to get into the whereisalvarhanso site is through the
http://www.whereisalvarhanso.com/Images/letter.jpg link chopsshaw posted (how he/she got there I don't know). Delete the "letter.jpg" and you are in the "Index of /Images", then delete "Images/" and you are in the parent directory and the actual "Have you seen Alvar Hanso?" page. Don't know if there is more but according to the file directroy, that's all there is. The source code contains a message ""Alvar Hanso was a friend, please help."
Chopsshaw also pointed out that the italicized letters in letter.jpg spell "help". Actually the word 'apologize' also contains an italicized 'e' albeit in the same font size unlike the other italicized letters. So: e help
The Dear [blacked-out name] appears to consist of 8 letters including the character q.
Any ideas?

Hey Oodles: That's weird stuff for sure. And oooh do I want to believe. But folks here are thinking it's fake. For one, on the sort of burnt page it says "FORM the desk of ALvar Hanso" Don't think they'd misspell "from". Also seems sort of a cheesy letterhead for the head of a global corporation.

Still waiting for that un/pw...

The DJ Dan podcast was good today, a bit longer than recently.

So do we all think that Hanso Exposed is actually by Rachel? If so, that would be the first domain name (apart from RB.com) that has been created for her... she's been posting her videos on previously established sites.
Makes sense though, "I've redoubled my security and established a new protocol in uploading", that she would start doing this, I'm betting we're gonna get a site with a changing password, at least that's what a smart person would do. RB has guts... but some of the stupid things she does... honestly.

Anyway, off-topic (or perhaps not...), but there's an interesting flash-ey type animation on time travel here

Click on 'Imagining the Ten Dimensions' on the left. Very intriguing, pretty easy to understand, even though it delves into complex stuff. Check it out.

Am partly excited by a new post but frustrated by it. It seems we're going round and round here. I think now that we know that Rachel worked for Widmore and not THF it adds weight to the thought I posted in response to the 12 podquest questions. That Mittlewerk recognised someone else in Rachel's face - presumably either father or mother. The way the man in her room acted made me think that they wanted to know who she was - if Mittlewerk knew she was trouble I don't think he's have any qualms or trouble in killing her straight off. That guy was looking for answers - we never saw that he had a weapon - if it was a straight killing surely he'd have had his guns out.

Mostly for Shelly, who posted above re Narvik (Nordland county, Norway):
Alvar Hanso in Narvik
Dagbladet article (in Norwegian)
- I think Narvik has only come in-game since someone discovered that the Alvar Hanso photograph depicts Narvik's town hall (there are pictures in the article).

It goes on to say that it's believed 'Alvar Hanso' is an old council worker, assumed to be the father of a football trainer who currently works at Tromsø IL.

If that's true, it would make 'Alvar Hanso' in the photograph 81 years old, while DJ Dan's latest podcast suggested he would be around 112 by now.

(in other words, I don't think we need to worry about Narvik very much - it's a TPTB cover-up job for using easily identifiable library footage!)

Nannie and Shelley - Narvik was first 'found' when the Orientation video aired on Lost (ie well before the game started), and someone recognised the building. I seem to recall that something else cropped up about Narvik later on, either in the game or in the show, but I can't for the life of me remember...

Morning All! David I like your theory, a lot!!! It kind of sounds like a Utopian Society that lostluvr29, Crossfade and some others have had in the works but never seemed to make it fit in the current situation...maybe now is a good time to add it to the Research Blog

At home today, resting my ailing back, again!!!

Aware of that:) The recognition of the building is what I mean by 'discovered'. In-game is referring to the fact Narvik cropped up in the Spanish doctor's letter to AH, where she'd been trying to contact him at his Narvik villa, which is I think why Shelly brought about the query.

My post was really to suggest that Narvik was only referred to in that later letter because the photograph location had been recognised - I can't help but see the Lake Superior islands turning out to be similarly unhelpful to the game, just because "we weren't supposed to recognise it" :)
Of course, conflicting viewpoints are more than welcome!

Thanks nannie & Pharma.. didn't remember the early in game tie in.

Your probably right that it's nothing then. I keep thinking we should be looking for a port, or Alvar Hanso, as that seems to be the main topic of Rachel's last 3 posts. The only other in game clue we've been handed is the DJ Dan podcast, just don't see much else there to go on.

Of course TPTB haven't really been following the story anyway have they? You search for the map location and find the Lake Superior islands.. and then end up in San Remo? May as well throw a dart at the globe to find her next location.. probably won't even be a port city!

Morning everyone! Just checking in...can't stay.
How come there hasn't been any kudos or further discussion related to JESSIEPAO's Lotus-related ideas? Has that been mentioned before and so everyone just let it go? I think it plays into the whole utopian-society-post-Valenzetti-event idea very nicely. It also ties in neatly the connections to Hindu religious ideas.

Jessiepao...thanks for adding that. I liked it and will be pondering it more.

Well that utopian society could go on after nuclear Armageddon. My post on the Resaerch blog certainly indicates THF could help a small group survive on a secluded island. that would explain the Lost TV show's Others obsession with "The Good Ones". Anyone working on a research post on utopian societies. It's been tried before.

I also tried to get in from every link I found on the web. I wish I had never found out about the game cuz I have lost countless work hours just trying to catch up. Not being able to play is driving me nuts. Any sugestions would be great and thank you for being polite, people on other boards are never that nice to noobs.

oxillini, if you're right, then there are 2 possibilities. either

the entire crash was on purpose. kelvin diliberately worked it out so that desmond wouldnt push the button, and cause the plane to crash.

or

it was an accident. the crash was unplanned, and was a major setback for what the others were trying to accomplish.

sean: it all gets too messy when tying the show to the arg due to the 2004/2006 thing. perhaps thf is working towards a utopian society on the island with no knowledge (yet) that the losties and dharma are still there. maybe dharma was cancelled but never really stopped. ever see office space? it's like milton was laid off but no one ever told him.

Jumping on the Jessiepao bandwagon for the moment.

If LOTUS were a new password, do we have a box requiring a password right now? There's a new login box on hansoexposed.com but I couldn't get Lotus to work there in any fashion.

sean: hmmmm. yes that does throw a wrench in the works. perhaps contracted that out (to widmore?) and it never got cancelled. i think at this point i'm really stretching and i should probably back off this theory for now. it would be an awfully sloppy accounting department not to notice the cargo bills keep coming to drop things at this island THF hasn't used in some time. perhaps this can all be explained away by underpants gnomes:

step 1: collect underpants
step 2: something
step 3: post apocolytpic utopian society!

it's just that simple.

Try this:

That should take you to the old Hanso site. I'm not sure if all of the clues still work, but if not, you can find links to everything on the clues site.

And don't be afraid - everyone here is very nice! :)

Morning all:

jdgdtt: Welcome to the game! It must seem so overwhelming to you. The link mentioned is on the side of the main page. "Old Hanso Site". Another way to get into this obsession is to scroll down to the beginning of this blog and work your way up. At least you can see what's happened so far and eventually catch up. Good luck, and ask any questions....

Still nothing new yet, but a lot of great ideas out there. I, too, like jessiepaio's lotus idea. I always thought that THF guys were trying to protect themselves from the VE's eventual apocalypse and were trying to extend their life so that they can outlive the aftermath and create their own world.

Sorry about your back, Thrasher. Hopefully, rest will be all it needs!

Maven,

Yes! Actually, when I first saw it was when this whole magnetic earth popped back into my mind (it has interested me for a long time before Lost). The thoughts that are circling in my brain are to do with the extraordinary EM properties on the island. THen the link to EM and nanotech.....Valenzetti Equation and possible doomsday.

So there are two possible lines of thought - 1) THF is trying to PREVENT a drastic climate change that comes with magentic pole change/flipping or 2) they are trying to HARNESS specific areas of weak earth's crust to CAUSE a magnetic field change.....

All their other projects are to do with either 1) solving the problems caused to the human population byt change in climate or 2) changing humans to their own liking - maybe creating a supposed Utopia?

Sorry if my rambles are too way out there....

Random thoughts: I like Jessiepao's thoughts on LOTUS. Also, Haggard's book, THE HOLY FLOWER, is about an immortal gorilla. Haggard's Alan Quartermain books take place in Africa.

Then again, Mandrake Wig's pic of a ship, Vapor de la Carrera, is out of Argentina.

Good Morning! After everyone left last night I tried out my off the wall idea. A combination of user names and passwords using the "shout outs" didn't pan out... I didn't think it would but I tried. :)

I like the Lotus Flower idea, it definitely fits the theme.

I wondered if there was anything to all the capitalized words as well. I thought perhaps there could be another message hidden among the emphasis. I pulled all of the words last night and then got tired. Here's what I have

HACKED
I'M NOT SURE
GOOD
REAL EVIDENCE
HAD
WHO
REALLY
RESPECT
KNOW
TON
FORGIVE ME
TEAM
THOUSANDS OF DEAR FRIENDS
SILENCE
TRUST
ARRIVED

Then there are the italized words... deserve and right.

I know we don't think the Penny Widmore blog is real but she posted again yesterday claiming that the new post wasn't Rachel which was a popular idea for awhile.

Anyway, I have to get ready for work. I was late yesterday, LOL.
