Afternoon Losties!

Now that we're around the 40/70 mark, I'm wondering exactly what the big revelation in the video could possibly be. It seems to me that there's now just a few bits of Alvar's orientation vid to fill in and then just a few more TWM parts for afterwards. Although the vid is good in that it ties in the island, the beginnings of Dharma, the Valenzetti equation etc, I thought there was supposed to be something HUGE about this video, hence why Rachel had to go "on the run" and also why we've spent weeks chasing the drip feed of glyphs.

Let's hope TPTB have got some aces up their sleeve.

do you think they will drag the game into the first 5 epi's of season 3? I beleive they are scheduled to premier on Sept. 29th which is a little over a month away.

I thought the idea behind TLE was to give us something to follow over the summer and keep us interested in LOST during the lag. But based on how slow the frags are coming (2 - 4 a week) this could take several weeks to finish.

If we have to wait until those bars are released to get glyphs i'm gonna be ticked. The bars aren't being handed out for 2 more weeks. It took 3 weeks to get 35 codes. Now we are on week 4. If they move at their same pace though we should have the other 35 glyphs by September 1st. The week the Apollo bars are distributed should be the start of ACT 4.

From one of the clips it appears there will be static over the critical part of the tape. I think all we will get out of this is that Dr M is addressing his minions to go out and stick to their story. At best it just points out that THF is up to something - good or bad we don't really know yet.

Apparently DHARMA was put together to solve the world's problems through science. That's a recipe for disaster if there is no moral philosophy behind it.

Some "scientists" believe the only way to "save" the world is to eliminate human life on the planet. I wonder if this ship is their own twisted version of an Ark - filled with their genetically selected, and controlled, population of neo-humanoids...did they actually say the rooms on the ship were meant for people? Save Joop could have some dark, alternate meaning.

"Damn them! Damn them all to hell!"

I haven't thought about that before, but that's interesting.

Since they are only going to show 6 new episodes before another break, why not continue the game through the episodes, and into the next break? That will give us somthing to do until it restarts in ... when does it start up again?

I agree with Dazzedelf that this new clip goes after RGMR, with a clip or clips missing.

I can't decide if we are missing a clip (or clips) between "chocolates" and "rxmhjh9y". "Overpopulation" continuing the "n" sound into the next frame could work, especially since the last washed out frame of the first seems to match the first washed out frame of the second.

Lol, I just read the new code in the last comments and we were already on 35 here. Seems post numbers are back up again since the live DJDan show. I guess they needed the boost in the middle.

The segments are slowly starting to get more interesting. I'm getting the impression the real twists as far as the ARG go will be in the Mittlewerk stuff and not in the orientation video as we seem to be completing the video first. Although a starting frame of one of the orientation framents hinted at perhaps a breakdown of the different stations on the island and that would be a huge bit of show juice (more so then simply knowing why the created Dharma, although that is cool in itself).

Belly, yeah locations of the fragment codes have started to hot up a bit along with the content.

I suppose once again it's just bad design. Of course they couldn't give exciting stuff first and of course they had to be more creative with the more important pieces. So that means to begin with you have the less interesting pieces given out in less interesting ways. I'll keep my fingers crossed it keeps it's current momentum (which isn't the streamroller of Act 1, but at least it's moving forwards).

In teh grand scheme of things I agree that the orientation film is going to be in the middle - from the way this is panning out Mittelwerk is going to have to give some form of introduction to the presentation and meeting, if anything to give the science team true understanding of why they have been assembled.

Thoughts:
Interestingly though I'm beginning to doubt if Mittelwerk really is up to no good. Unless the guy plans on using the END result of DHARMA v2 for nefarious purposes, I'm not too sure how he can spin his words and Hanso's message into "let's create something evil".

The orientation film looks to be entirely untouched from its original filming back in 1975, and from what we've seen is does add a lot of weight to theory that THF did indeed start off benevolent and has been corrupted.

But like I said, giving the science team such a benevolent message I can't really see how Mittelwerk can spin this into an act of evil.

It might be anticlimactic but I think having THF and Mittelwerk benevolent after all this and Rachel Blake is insane/vengeful/got the wrong end of the stick would have more impact than "oh dear they're bringing about the end of the world and Rachel Blake is Alvar's granddaughter".

Certainly for me that would suck...

That's like making yourself out to be God. No matter how benevolent he is, Alvar just doesn't have what it takes to do that. Maybe we need to sit TVM and Hanso down and show them Bruce Almighty?

Shakey - Yeah, whatever it turns out to be that DAVE has done (I'm refering to Mittlewerk as Dave for the day), it will be interesting to see how it fits in with the apparently good meaning Dharma set up.

The only things I can think of is that it's either a case that the only way to ensure survival of the human race is to firstly create your own little Utopian community and then wipe out the rest of the world (through poisoned choclate bars?) or that they aren't actually trying to create a community, but doing experients on how they can alter humanity to tackle the threats mentioned by Alvar in the video. We've seen mind control, genetic alteration, suggestions on nanotechnology, some kind of poisoning. It all adds up to an attempt to pacify the whole of humanity. Reduce our aggression levels, make us easy to control, but also make us immune to diseas and cause most people to be infertile to avoid over-population. Treating humanity as cattle for the sake of survival.

Actually I'm swining towards the later idea now.

As for the Orientation in the middle thing. Part of my reasoning is the amount of movement Rachel(?) makes. It would fit in if she was swining her view over to where the orientation screen was and then back to mittlewerk. Otherwise she would just seem to be swining the camera around a lot for no real reason. Plus there are a few bits of Daves speech that it would seem logical to have after the video (unless he's just showing it for kicks...which I wouldn't entirely rule out, it's probably like the company song on that boat). But at the same time, I doubt it would start with the orientation.

Jpike - yeah, in this instance I believe our memory and that of whomever wrote that on Lostpedia was correct. The Comicon podcast is long that's why I went to Lostpedia instead (no transcript there, I guess they thought it was long too) and I checked because I heard it wrong. I'm fairly sure I didn't now. Lostpedia is still not the best source to rely on to learn new stuff (like when it had Lockes dad on the board of directors at Widmore for apparently, no reason whatsoever and I started basing huge long theories around it. Grrr.) but it's a reasonable place to doublecheck stuff you already know.

By the way, you know the Lost jigsaw puzzles #1 and #2 that they were selling at Comic Con? (More info at lostoverlost.blogspot.com -Tapdawg's blog)

The 3rd puzzle, "LOST - MYSTERY OF THE ISLAND NUMBERS JIGSAW PUZZLE," was due out in August. Last I checked it was only available for pre-order online. Today I found a few places that were selling it.

I don't know when it became available. Maybe around the time glyph #29 was released? The puzzle is rumored to shed light on TLE.

I agree. I think the glyph search will be completed by September 5, the official date the DVD for Season 2 of Lost becomes available in the US. This is only a guess, but I think the DVD also will include the solution about the numbers, because millions of fans not playing the ARG nonetheless will want to know that secret.

I think the apollocandy bars will be related to Parts 4-5 of TLE (remember, ABC issued a press announcement in July indicating there will be 5 parts, not 3, as originally expected).

A few weeks ago, someone claiming to have put together the first Lost puzzle posted in one of the Forums (possibly The Fuselage) that what he saw in the blacklight on the back was a portion of the Blast Door Map that was in the upper right corner and previously hence unseen.

I don't know if that proved to be accurate, or was just a troll. However, it is consistent with the minimum info that Lostpedia contains about them.

Don't those popups change? I got Classmates & UofPhoenix

I very much think the September 6 NYC apollo candy bar distribution coincides with the beginning of Part 4. My guess is that the September 20 distribution in San Francisco will be the end of it, and the final two weeks leading up to the October 4, 2006 debut of Season 3 of Lost will be Act 5.

That's all a theory, mind you. But the press announcement saying their will be 5 parts was an official ABC press release, so I trust its accuracy.

While it's a very intersting idea, I personally doubt there will be clues in the DVD, because it would be too obscure what their purpose was to the hundreds of thousands of purchasers of the DVD who didn't play this game.

Now, having said that, it's not inconceivable that there may be easter eggs in the DVDs. We all know there often are, especially Sci Fi DVDs. So it certainly is possible, though I tend to think any easter eggs will be not be part of TLE, though they may be related (i.e., hidden links that give you a view of the now shut-down Hanso Foundation website, or fragments of DJ Dan podcasts).

I guess we'll know in a couple of weeks :)

What about all the commercials, the jeep compass backlight video, All the hidden stuff on the web that people who aren't playing this game bump into. I don't think ABC cares if stuff get to an audience who isn't "Playing the game..."

Know what I mean. Hence, they throw a piece of paper in the DVD Season that leads us to our next clue...I could so see them doing this...

Hey everyone - I have a question about Hansoexposed.com. I use internet explorer and the site never works properly - each time I save a sequence and log back in, most of the clips are where they were before I save it. And some that I didn't even move are in a different spot. For people that use Mozilla, do you have this problem? I have mozilla on my pc but I never use it. It's in getting fixed right now and once I'll get it back, I'll try the site with mozilla. Hopefullly I won't have any problems...

I think they should have overlapped Acts. Like overlapping Act II with Act III and Act III with Act IV. The glyphs, while pretty cool, have slowed down the momentum built up during Acts I and II. Another month of glyph hunting will be tedious.

So, what if an Apollo bar has the WheresAlvar.com molded into it, and a Golden Ticket-like glyph (the last ones)? That would tie Act III and Act IV together nicely.

Twenty years from now someone will be trying to cash in their unopened Apollo bars.

I would also not assume that TLE ends when the new season begins. I think it could end at Episode 6 - when we receive a good cliffhanger to keep us engaged or guessing until January/February 2007. I believe they've said that we'll know who "Him" is during episode one of season 3. Could that be Alvar or someone else?

One interesting point to the Sri Lanka video is that the team of scientists are provided with survival training. That's from a video shot in 1975, when the island was set up with all of the cushy living quarters. Other than your basic island orientation - don't eat that, don't touch that, etc. - what does a group of scientists who are continually supplied with all manner of luxury items need with survival training? It doesn't sound like DHARMA is the benevolent organization that we are being led to believe.

8/15/2006 02:31:00 PM
Blogger RyaNDrumZ said...

AlohaPrincess-I find that it helps when you hit "save sequence" a bunch of times, then goto the link after the last save, then click continue when the new window pops up. It should then show a list of names (all recently saved sequnces). If your name is not on the list, then repeat this procedure until you see it up. Then it should be safe to log-out and everything will be OK...

Sorry I didn't put a lot of folks here in the top 10. I'm not sure if it's turned into a popularity contest (probably has_, but I didn't see it as that to begin with (and I don't think that is what Speaker intended). I put in people I didn't know much (or anything) about but am curious. So those that I've chatted to a lot, or just followed their ramblings a lot here I pretty much ignore. Mostly because I post over at ITE now and then, but not enough to really know people, I just put people from over there. I actually would have changed it slightly after posting it, but wouldn't want to offend the people who's names I would take off. Lol.

Of course realistically we know who will most likely "win", and that's not terrible exciting in itself. Maybe if Speaks repeats the excesive it would be more interesting.

Actually what has been interesting has been the way people have been voting. Okay, not the obvious votes, Willow, Wolfe and co, but the fringe votes. What would be really interesting to me though, would be to see a top 10 accompanies by some kind of justification and then the profiles can be made up of other posters impressions of that person. That would be cool (and because it's a top 10 you would only get the postive side so no space for tears).

Okay I can't type, messed up the word verification (little known fact - I do that a lot). But I can add an additional. I'm all for supporting people from here over there, although I've already posted a top 10. I could always just log on under an alias. I mean frag it, if it's going to be a popularity contest let's show the love. :) However I really don't think there are prizes involved except an ego boost for the winners.

Fenris, I posted 2 top 10 lists from TLEC on ITE. Lots of cool contributors here.Oh, well. If you noticed, not a lot of people are voting, but just the usual ramblings.

I do think there is something other than a popularity contest. Maybe the top 10 will be working for ABC for there next Lost ARG...

Maybe, but I was talking about within the context of the game.

OUTSIDE of the ARG world, it's anyone's guess.

Dawg _ I figured Act 4 was teh Appolo Candy Bars, but did not know that the video we are spending weeks putting together would be in the season 2 dvds. I hate to sound like a complainer, but knowing that kinda puts a damper on my interest in piecing together the fragments (My interest in searching for the glyphs had already wained).

I never win popularity contests, so I won't be stressing over waiting to hear from Speaker any time soon.

Lena, you're a gas! :-D I didn't catch that before.

RE Rachel:

I wonder what they have her doing. Is the actress getting paid for this time or not until her next appearance. Are they making her hide out somewhere or can she go about normal life? I mean, can you imagine if the actress was spotted buying groceries in LA?

How do we know that the video will be on the DVDs? Where did that come from?

what if we had a similar top ten thing here. except instead of asking those ten for profiles of themselves, we asked everyone else what they thought. i.e. are they tall/short male/female techie/jock etc.

I was wondering that too Dennis. I can't find anything on Lostpedia that says this video will be on the season 2 DVD's.

noiq --

Tapdawg, I've been supporting the notion that the Dharma video will be on the DVD as bonus feature based solely on surmise from the Season 2 DVD packaging (it's called EXTENDED EXPERIENCE").

Until your post, I wasn't aware that something was actually said about it at Comic Con. Didn't they show a heretofore unseen Dharma video there that was not permitted to be filmed, or I am getting my facts messed up?

Dawg - I rememember you saying that there would be an extra orientation video on the DVD's but not that it would be THIS video. I had been assuming it would be different from any we got inthe game.

Oxillini - I like that idea...maybe we can see what happens on ITE...but I think we could put something together here, and I like whoever it was that suggested a celebration for clue 108!!

ARG = Alternate Reality Game = ARGH!! What a pirate says!! Lena, too funny!!

OK -- I am not sure how I got my own name in that last post. I think I've been reading too many patent claims today at work... Sorry about that.

By the way, Spooky, this is REALLY late, but that apology was a very classy move. It's unnecessary, though. No one over at the Numbers Forum is responsible for the behavior of one individual, least of all you. I think we go on treating it for what many of us guessed it was from the beginning -- just someone being a troll for a day.

given the scope of this arg, i'm actually very surprised how few hoaxes and trolls we've had!

noiq you are too used to posting on ITE! so you addressed yourself (as opposed to me who inadvertently impersonated you on ITE as I do not often post on ITE).
