Clue #91 - Fragment Codes "VOU8VPNPS5X", "750NZF8X", "NZ59", & "e82kni8l"

Fragment Code "VOU8VPNPS5X" was found at the physical location of King's Comics at 310 Pitt St. in Sydney, Australia! This was hinted at by the Lost Ninja in THIS POST. The video fragment is of Mittelwerk saying, "So now we have to take radical action."

Fragment Code "750NZF8X" was found in a text messaging service in the UK mentioned by The Other Girl in her August 3rd post. The text message gives you a link to a glyph that can be seen by clicking here. The video fragment is of Mr. Beardy saying, "The equation is the brainchild of the mathematician, Enzo Valenzetti."

Fragment Code "NZ59" was found in an Australian Yahoo video on this website. Click "Watch Ep 223's Secret Clue" (Many people have been having trouble getting this Yahoo video to play). The video fragment is of Mittelwerk saying, "So when you go in, you have to keep up with story."

Fragment Code "e82kni8l" was just emailed to us and it works. We discovered that it was found on THIS Korean Lost website. The video is of Mr. Beardy saying, "D.H.A.R.M.A." is an acronym for Department of Heuristics And Research on Material Applications." Still not sure of the details about how/where this code was found (please email us if you know)

Thanks to Shannon, Esther, Matt, Rob, Scoutpost, Lucamu, bman_numero_uno, Nat, Sean, & Jen for emailing us about these codes!

*Check out Matt the Pale's summary of all the found fragment codes at...Matt the Pale's HansoExposed Video Fragment Code List

One day I'll actually be here from the off. Ah well.

Also looks like I'm going to have to actually start paying attention to what tOG has to say for herself from now on.

I guess the focus of this act really is the three go-betweens.

Anyway I guess that it will be dead for the rest of the night too now. Nevermind I'm planning on seeing a band anyway.

One more thing - "keep up with story"? I'm not sure that is what it is. It could be "keep up the story" or "keep up his story".

I've been tossing around a few ideas in my head about the new TVM clip: "So when you go in, you have to keep up with story."
At first I had though maybe it has to do with the hatches, the quarantine, vaccines, and the fake sickness that Kelvin had Des believing in. But now I am wondering if the story doesn't have something to do with the mythos behind the Valenzetti Equation. Mittlewerk is showing the video telling about the Valenzetti Equation that some DHARMA recruits see. However, the folks watching the video know the true story (which we don't yet) and are being asked to keep up with the story that tells of the UN rejecting the equation, Valenzetti's unknown whereabouts, etc...

kylelane, I get a similar feeling, but I think that, instead of the glyphs meaning something, when we get all of the clips aligned correctly, the string of letters and numbers in the codes will be a cyphertext that can be decoded.

You know, I hate to moan, but I just got to say. It's typical that the C4 (the UK channel showing Lost) clue is one you had to spend money to find. I mean whatever network Lost is on in Australia just put the clue somewhere in public, no problems there someone will live near. What C4 did was make people send text messages, thereby bagging the greedy so and so's a nice fat wad of cash for their single segment of video. Not only that but of course giving C4 a whole load of mobile numbers they can then sell to advertising companies or just use to spam you themselves.

Just wanted to say that.

Anyway back to biz: Macus - Yeah I agree with you. I can't see DJDan doing it live at midnight PST. Although from my point of view, as the UK is in BST (GMT+1) at the moment it would be either 2am or 9am. On a sunday I'm probably more likely to be awake at 2am, but either way it's going to be tough. Not impossible at least. I guess finding a time that is good for all three countries would be near on impossible.

Hi everybody!

Here's a thought (or naive wishful thinking), but it seems to me that very soon the pace of the glyph-release will have to pick up as we will be filling in more and more of the gaps in the video and it won't be too hard to make some connections between words and phrases even if we don't have the exact clip. Of course, my money is on McBeardy's "I'm..." sequence being finished last.

I have noticed that we have "lost" a few of our regular contributers lately and I have asked myself the same question. Why am I still doing this? Well, I have to beleive that there is going to be some sort of pay off here. I have spoken to a few of you about this and Matt the Pale hit the nail on the head in a letter to TPTB about how this is not a true ARG, but more of a story that will unfold and we will get to "play" along. It is unfortunate to have miss certain people and I hope they come back soon. Think about how great of a community this is. It has truly grown bigger than anyone of us could have hoped. It has spawned so many great things, from the Research Team, to a cool chat room, to some true friendships. No matter how this ends, with a bang or a flutter I will truly remember the cool people and the friendships that this "game" has created. Thanks for the inspiration to write this Belly.

marcus, you are right, a week from now and Australia can no longer be spoiled! Still a long way to go for the UK though :(

Knowing that Javi basically wrote the ARG and no outside (as in ARG pros) helped I am not surprised at the way the game has gone. I'm trying to stay on the positive side, but have to agree that it would have been nice if this had been more true to the ARG way. Ah well, if has been fun, mostly cool people and gets the old brain matter ticking a bit

trasher76: I think the answer to why people are losing some interest in the ARG is simple: phase 3 is bloody boring... And worst of all, there's no "sense of accomplishment" with this type of clues. The only thing that really matters is who enters the spoon-fed code first.

Oh, and that HE website has a huge bottleneck: the login phase. They load every flv each time you logon! That's just silly.

Lavenda, that's interesting about Javi. I didn't realize that. Certainly explains the flow. Also could explain the relative lack of adaptability to the players' requests for more challenges...if he's not an ARG guy, he might not be as innovative in changing on the fly. And he may also be quite busy on the show etc.

Thrasher et al...I just don't think there's a lot for us to hash through in this part of the experience. Before, we were finding things out about organ harvesting and life extension and disappearing executives and mysterious islands. We had loads of things to ponder because we were trying to connect all these random and intriguing dots. Now we get a 2 second snippet that just doesn't lend itself to too much research or analysis. (though we managed to burn up a boatload of blog space on "I'm...")

Belly - Dane Cook is a great and funny comedian...I have heard of him but I don't know him....I am a bigger fan of Jim Gaffigan...

Lost - You are correct! This is boring and there is no sense of accomplishment to be had anywhere. Before, even if you were not first to find a clue, you could retrace someone steps for yourself and get some satisfaction. What this tells me is that TPTB are not really listening to us. At least not in this phase of the game...the die has been cast I am affraid...

Thank god we should be getting a new podcast soon....right? David?

Yes, well said, thrasher. Totally agree. Before this glyph thing started we had plenty to think about and research. Now it's just a waiting game since no frag so far has given us anything earth shattering. We've only seen things either confirmed or things a lot of us already know and suspect. No big reveal will come until that last frag is placed in the sequence.

Although we're all complaining now, I still find this a wonderful "experience". Great discussions, meeting great people, great trivia, and the beginnings of great friendships. I sincerely hope this "family" stays together once this ARG is over. We'll always have plenty to talk about...we'll always have Season 3, etc. and how our theories from the ARG factor in. I hope this blog continues in that vain (hear me, David?)

I agree Maven, I think it would be cool to continue this blog, or a new to discuss the show and things we find and see on it...

I am not sure I would have th etime to create one, but I would be interested in doing so with some of you. That is if David does not see the need to continue on with this one...

To liven things up a bit I want to pass something by you guys.
I think I cracked the timestamp code on the print-out from the Pearl Station. I made an entry on the relevant Lostpedia site at http://lostpedia.com/wiki/Log_printout
under "Theories".
The log printout shows the hours and minutes that have passed since an event in the 28th century BC. For example: 41602050 hours would represent 4749.09 years. We don't know what (island) time period the print-out covers but it can reasonably be assumed to be between 1985 (the incident) and late 2004 (log printed out). This means that 0 on the log would represent a date sometime between 2764 BC and 2745 BC. An important person in that time period was Fu Hsi, legendary ruler of China (traditional dates: 2852 BC-2738 BC). According to tradition Fu Hsi had the arrangement of the trigrams of the Yi Jing revealed to him supernaturally. The trigrams form part of the Bagua which is used as the symbol of the Dharma Initiative. Assuming that the number of hours passed since Fu Hsi's birth year 2852 BC were taken as the start of the log, the last previous printout was probably taken in 1997.
If my theory is correct "The Pearl" may have been manned until 1997.

I agree Maven. I don't regret being involved in the experience for one iota of a second (whatever an iota is). But the actual content itself just seems to go downhill. It hasn't helped that the story at ROT has fizzled, Mandrake seems to be acting without any kind of purpose at all and DJ Dan is apparently on holiday. It's all led to a very very empty act.

Still the community itself has shown again and again we can entertain ourselves even if TPTB can't!

My pleasure, thrasher76.
In fact, there is more (from Wikipedia on Fu Hsi):
In the beginning there was as yet no moral or social order. Men knew their mothers only, not their fathers. When hungry, they searched for food; when satisfied, they threw away the remnants. They devoured their food hide and hair, drank the blood, and clad themselves in skins and rushes. Then came Fu Xi and looked upward and contemplated the images in the heavens, and looked downward and contemplated the occurrences on earth. He united man and wife, regulated the five stages of change, and laid down the laws of humanity. He devised the eight trigrams, in order to gain mastery over the world.

re: log print-out and Fu Hsi / Dharma logo (see above)
It's Fu Hsi's death year 2738 BC that falls within the range but 2738BC plus 4749 years would yield a date in the future (2011). So neither his birth year nor his death year could be the "start date" for the purposes of the log. My guess is it's the year the trigrams were "revealed to him supernaturally" (haven't yet found out) or perhaps some other significant event in his life (e.g. the year he became ruler of China).
In legend he seems to be ascribed with civilizing mankind which is interesting in the context of the prediction of the time when mankind is going to extinguish itself.
Another interesting reference is the five stages of change. Remember how Mandrake Wig always goes on about change? Also we now know that there are not 3 but 5 stages to the ARG!

Did anyone (on the island) ever check what happened the day of the lockdown?
Locke never checked the log anyway because after seeing the video in the Pearl station he no longer thought pushing the button had any significance while Eko may not know about the Faux Henry indicent as he only moved into the Swan when Locke said he'd no longer push the button. The Swan inhabitants never seemed to tell the beach group much about what was going on in the hatch.
It was Desmond who grabbed the log and he only tried to find 9/22/04 once Locke told him the date of the crash.

kylelane: I don't know which is cooler cute little twins or that your DH is bathing them! Mine (not twins) are being bathed by Daddy right now too.

oodles: I think marcus might be saying that if the date of the crash and the date of Desmond's incident coincided then the island is running on the same time at the same rate as it's external world. A question I have is if Desmond's incident brought the plane, then what might Locke's bring.

marcus: Let's say the island runs on the same time as it's outer world. What if other times can be accessed in some way because of the electromagnetic effect? That could explain the weird moment when Hurley and Sayid got old music on the radio. Some science fiction posits that time *travel* isn't possible but other time *viewing* is.

Another idea is that the computer was using external time references instead of local island time references. Then the island time could be running at a different rate and the dates of the events could still match up.

Get you Twinkle,
I reckon island time = outside world time; I believe what Faux Henry may or may not have done is in the log; it's just that no one has looked yet.

Guess I should add:
***spoiler***

I too have wondered whether more planes are gonna fall out of the sky but it may only have been for the fact that Flight 815 swung around back to Fiji that it came close enough to the island to be brought down.

Your idea of external time references is interesting. However, if the island is, as I believe, between Fiji and Tahiti then it should by rights have been dark when the plane crashed (I guess it gets bright around 8am there?) The time (4:16) isn't really the problem - that roughly tallies with the flight time and path (the timezones in that part of the Pacific are very zig-zaggy); the fact that it was bright daylight is the problem (continuity error? better visual effects?)

Morning all (and Marcus in particular)

******spoiler warning*****
First of all, Marcus credited me with the "food drop through some kind of portal/conduit" theory". Can't remember who came up with that but it wasn't me so I'll pass the credit back into byteworld.

Last night, The Final Countdown (US, 1980) aired here, a sci-fi story in which the carrier USS Nimitz passes through a time-warp and appears off Pearl Harbour just before the Japanese attack. Just had to watch it (not least because my beloved Martin Sheen stars in it :) and it sure made me contemplate the timewarp theories again.
But I think I'll stick with Ockham's Razor (the dictum that one should always accept as most-likely the simplest explanation that accounts for all the facts). My theory is that island time and real-world time are not out of phase; we left the losties on November 27, 2004. Desmond has been there for over 3 years, following his getting stranded on the island in 2001. The log printout from the Pearl shows all the entries since the last printout (at an unknown time in the past) including the September 22, 2004 entry. It also shows whether Faux Henry did or did not enter the numbers (I presume he did and lied about it, otherwise we would have had an earlier 'incident' during lockdown); but no one has looked at the log for that entry (Locke because he no longer thinks it is significant, Eko and Desmond because they don't know about what Faux Henry said to Locke about not pushing the button).

The plane was in the air for about 8 hours. If it left on time it crashed about 23.00 Sydney time. I would put the island between Fiji and Tahiti in the northern Cook Islands area which is at Sydney time +4 hours. So then the plane would have crashed at about 3 a.m local time. Leaving the "it should have been dark"-problem out of the equation, there are a number of things that could account for the one-hour difference to the print-out (4.16 a.m.):
- The plane's take-off was delayed by one hour.
- The island is further east.
- The computers run on external time: The timezones and dateline are pretty messy in that part of the world (see http://www.worldtimezone.com/time-oceania24.php) and have repeatedly been revised in the late 20th century. The island that connects with 'our' island via the Pala Ferry and possibly the underwater cable Sayid discovered could well be in a different timezone.

As to "it should have been dark"-problem. Perhaps the producers had not contemplated that the show's every scene and every word spoken would be analysed to bits two years on.
It has been theorized that the island is not in the South Pacific but off the East coast of Africa (where it would have been afternoon at the time of the crash) but I wouldn't think that an airline pilot and two hardy sailors wouldn't know which part of the world they are in. Also, the Banyan tree is a native southeast Asia and overall the vegetation on 'our' island is humid tropical, not dry tropical as it is in the likely contender, the Cape Verde Islands region, where only interior valleys support lush vegetation whereas coasts and mountains are rather bare.

Anyway, methinks that the ARG is two years into the future from the show.
