Clue #99 - Fragment Code "GLLV8B"

Fragment Code "GLLV8B" was found today by Team Lena (story below). The video fragment is of Mittlwerk saying, "But I promise you, someone is going to help."

*Check out Matt the Pale's summary of all the found fragment codes at...Matt the Pale's HansoExposed Video Fragment Code List

What Happened?
We posted with a quote and a link to savejoop.com. On savejoop.com, if you click where it says, "this commercial" you will be taken to a youtube video that is an amatuer commercial for a new "Glyphs Can Be Fun" t-shirt. At the end of the commercial, you'll notice the phrase, "myspace.com/randomempire" flash across the right side of the screen. If you go to that myspace, you'll find a blog post with the following message "CRAFTED GNOME: David told us he needed to hide something here and he said anyone familiar with Rachel Blake would know what to do. He said that there were 2 pathways to Rachel's latest code and that he wasn't sure which would be fastest: CONFIDED FOR US or TIGHTEST PROPHET CUE." These clusters of words were taken as anagrams for "FRAGMENT CODE", "FIND US FOR CODE", & "PUT THE PICS TOGETHER."

Most of the top 10 commenters from this blog (all that we could find email addresses for - we're so sorry lhorse007) were entrusted with pics/pieces of pics that, when put together, would reveal the code. Also two of the administrators of this site had "Glyphs Can Be Fun" t-shirts and decided to give them away to anyone who could find them today. Ultimately, William (from our podcast/Young Wallace, blogger name) was wearing the shirt and Lena (from Team Lena) found him in Oregon. She posted a few pics of the shirt and the rest is history!

Thanks to everyone who engaged in this glyph hunt, kept a good attitude and an open mind, and complimented our efforts to assist Rachel Blake as best we knew how. What a great team effort!

Lol, one of the first things I did was go to that MySpace site ('cos it was linked from the TLEC MySpace and I was wondering where they could have hidden it). But I didn't check the blogs. Ah well.

I still hate this act. But I would say that this was the best done Glyph puzzle so far. If only this had been the first glyph and I hadn't already all but given up caring about this act I probably would have put the effort in to pass the test.

Kudos to you admins.

For the record:

It has came to my attention (thanks to matt the pale) that an imposter posing as one of our friends here posted some very mean and hurtful things.

Try and remember this when you see someone posting something mean! IT MIGHT NOT BE WHO IT SAYS IT IS! I saw the two EBlogger profiles myself! They were almost IDENTICAL! (sorry forgot to save them) I couldnt believe it! But it did make sence that one of my personal favorite posters didnt seem to be themselfs today!

Hope we dont have to see this happen anymore, but just be careful!

There is ONE thing that is EATING at me...

In the video with David wearing his shirt, it clearly has something on the back.

Today when I received MY shirt I was expecting to find something on the back. Sadly, there was NOTHING there.

I am gonna bug David to tell me what is on the back of HIS shirt! LOL

Well I think TPTB started to see how much TLEC is involved in the ARG and somewhere along the line I guess they are kind of now "in game" sorta! The thing I wonder is, TLEC going to be in game for good or just this one time!?!

I am still trying to grasp the fact that I was able to get my hands on an actual INGAME clue today! Still in a fog really LOL.

It will forever be a personal keepsake to remember the TLEC and the game!

Looking forward to DJDan tomorrow!!!! He is one of the most interesting things in the ARG to me besides the video research that is!

Listen the fact is these fan sites were built to involve and interact more people to the lost experience and Lost in general...instead they alienated many people, people who didn't have programs on their computer that could reverse audio and video files etc.... people who weren't almost losing their jobs at work to do this...I love lost, by rewarding this site...it should have been a reward for EVERYONE that has ever participated here...not just the admins...cause we have all spent some time....instead it was just an inside joke and another test.
Where was the reward for those of which have been loyal to this site? Id rather this site NOT be in-game.

8/11/2006 04:33:00 AM
Blogger Apex Zombie said...

wrangler, the people who were given the pics were supposed to be (and I think they were) shared with everyone so they all could figure it out. Some of the people didn't check their emails. Someone decoded the whole thing before everyone else and got the shirt, and they shared it with everyone.

I still don't get why everyone has a problem with this? People don't get upset when Ninja posts a clue. Heck, he doesn't even make a puzzle before he posts it. If Speaker were to post a clue in real life, would people be this upset?

I mean, it's been this way all throughout the game. Someone figures it out before you, and they get the kudos.

Hell, if anyone has a right to be angry, it's us people in places that don't even get acknowledgement. New Zealand gets episodes before Australia, but we don't even get a blogger. Glyphs get released in the middle of the night over here. But it doesn't matter. No one has ever withheld information about a glyph, it's always been shared.

Morning All!! This was very cool!! Thanks so much David for making this cool. I want you all to know that even if TPTB did not listen to us, David did. I do not know how he got the clue, perhaps, Lost Ninja, Speaker or on of the other contacts we have that have released a code. But no matter, David understood that we were upset and wanted to have a puzzle, a hunt. And bpy oh boy did he deliver. I hope TPTB were paying attetnion to this.

I am so jealous LENA!!! I want a shirt to! Perhaps David can have shirts made that say, "I wasted my summer 2006 playing TLE on TLEC!!"

Seeing the pictures all together now makes me feel good, because I had LLV8 as a code possibility, I was missing the other parts...meh!

It was so much fun! Thank you again David! And hey TPTB, pay attention, this is how we roll!

hey admin - nice job with todays clue. thanks for trying to wake everybody up a little (including myself). a couple things:

1. i feel like a big dolt - was ranting on here the other day about the slow pace of the game etc and admin blogged in response to "remember: Glyphs Can Be Fun". perhpas admin was trying to steer me in a direction but of course i was dense. sorry admin, my bad - ill try to be more observant ..
2. how DID u get this clue? does this mean admin is, at least partialy, ingame?

seems like the people in charge are releasing the clues to a few who in turn are responsible for releasing them to the rest of us, in whatever ways they deem fit - which is cool, and props to admin for taking an interesting direction with it - but does that mean those people not part of the player community anymore but rather part of the game provider? - (im sure that could be phrased better but its very early here) - i guess its all good as it doesnt make that much difference to most of us individually, but it seems like the lines are getting a little blurred as to where the game starts, whos in on it, etc - just an observation.

anyway thanks for an interesting day ... waiting to see what happens next

David, William, all pictures getters, everyone...the hunt was excellent. It was so much fun! For folks that are upset, and can't figure why TLEC got a glyph, ponder this: Rachel and ROT have mentioned specific players on their blogs, why wouldn't Rachel reward a Bolg responsible for helping her, with a glyph. Someone above mentioned this breaking the 4th wall...how so? Do you really have to be in-game to be a part of the game? Anyway, excellent job guys, I was dreaming of LL, v8, and b's all night:)!

Ange the dharma logos on the show have that kind of thing going in some are a white image on a black background and others are a black on white. I think that relates to my theory about the electromagnets polarity. The magnet was suck metal towards it then when desmond turned the dharma key it pushed metal away( the quarentine door flying in the air). I think it all ties to the yinyang/bad twin/ evil doppleganger(marvin and mark) thing they got going

remember when locke was talking to his phone sex operator that he was pretending to be peg bundy. He had an electromagnetic stimulation device on his legs to keep the muscles stimulated in his legs. I think the polarity switch may affect peoples behavior more than anything, MY other theory spoiller!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! on Fenry Gayle and the others is that they are infertile and Fenry made locke question his faith in the button so that he would stop pressing it so other ship and planes would be attracted there, much how I thought Kelvin purposely let desmond see the hole in his suit to get him to question the button and leave the hatch, remeber kelvin was goinh to take the dharma key and fenry had no way of knowing desmond would be back with the key. Fenry wanted that crazt light thing to go to its total conclusion...

i still think the game should move a little faster - remember that the puzzles etc are fun but the payoff is not really a real clue but 1/70th of a clue (the video) ..its an awful lot of work to put in for minimal returns .. seems like before the frags started there was more substantial reward for the efforts being put forth; when rachel put out her vids we got complete vids, daily for a while, not 5 second pieces of vids ... it would be nice if there were another line the game could explore simultaneous to the piecing together of this video ... perhaps the apollo bar thing will lead to something interesting .. I am really hoping it doesnt just lead to another tiny fragment of a video, the final contents of which are mostly already known about (awkward grammar there sorry)

Some things I think you guys have the right to know:

1. What happened yesterday...I don't know for sure but it was most likely a one time deal. If it happens again, you'll know it and I promise I won't mess with you. I know it was weird and maybe off-setting but I couldn't pass up a chance to help Rachel Blake.

2. I did my best to protect Rachel by hiding the glyph in a way that only the "good guys" could find, but I realize that I wasn't perfect in my execution. First, I mispelled TIGHTEST in my message to the myspace.com/randomempire people and that was a major screw up. Secondly, I failed to email all of the people that I said I would and caused some confusion. I didn't have lhorse007's email address and I just had a brain fart and think I forgot to email Crossfade. For that I am deeply sorry. I also emailed a few people outside of the "top 10" because I was trying to help move things along...this may have caused more confusion/alienation for some people and I regret it if it did. Hindsight is 20/20 and there are many things that could have been done differently...I have to keep reminding myself that I am only one man and this was my first try at something like this.

3. Here is a pic detailing who was emailed what. A couple of the pics were sent out twice and I kept changing the filenames to match the person's screen name that I was sending it to...therefore, I forgot who got what in a few instances. For example, the pic that was sent to wizardry_eas was sent to someone else as well and I forgot which one I sent to wizardry_eas. That is why his name is not listed but I know I sent him one.

4. The reason why I did things the way I did was because I was personally motivated to accomplish a few things...A) honor the faithful hardcore contributors to this blog while allowing everyone else an equal chance at finding a solution, B) foster a sense of community by making teamwork a necessity for success, C) balance variety and fun with urgency and intrigue by creating an online & offline path for glyph discovery.

5. I am grateful to Rachel for including me in this experience but I am also very exhausted. I don't know how she does it! I am also grateful for all of you who supported my efforts yesterday and couldn't be more excited about sharing the rest of this experience with you all. I am saddened by the hurtful comments made by a few and, while I wish the delivery was less harsh, am trying my best to understand and recieve them as constructive criticism. I think I'll be taking most of the weekend "off" to recover. :)

You guys ROCK! It was so cool watching everything go down yesterday. Everyone did great and I think we made Rachel proud. ;)

I must say that persanally, I dont have all the time that some others have to do research, etc., having a business full time with a family, and I think there are a few others out there like me. I want to tell all of you that I appreciate being able to piggyback upon your efforts and thereby enjoy the game. I guess it is one of the reasons I wish things would move a little faster, because I know that the way it is right now it is hard for those of us like me to feel involved fully - putting hours in a day every day in order to find a tiny piece of a clue - hours that I dont really have. I try to get involoved but it always seems to go past what I am able to do. But I want to thank all of you who do spend all the hours for making your efforts available so we can have fun too ...

Maybe jealousy...but I try to give everybody the benefit of the doubt and put myself in their shoes. Lots of people have been deeply involved in following Rachel's exploits from the beginning and have never needed to worry about our little blog. I can see how it would be frustrating to suddenly feel like you're on the outside looking in. They don't know our names, our culture, our history, etc and it could be very confusing.

There isn't much I/we can do about it except be sensitive to it and be as understanding and helpful as possible.

cattygirl, the red shirt was one I had designed for a group that I took to do relief work in New Orleans. The front said "Give For Nothing" and it was a reminder to the group to serve the people of New Orleans wholeheartedly without expecting anything in return. The back was a Louisiana License plate that read...

Louisiana
JHC 06 (Stands for "Junior High Connection 06")
7 JULY (Stands for the month that we went)
CC (Stands for "Celebration Church" the group that set up jobs for us and provided housing and meals)

That being said, Shouldn't DJ Dan have updated by now. He said 12 hours before the live cast he would give us more info. That would be 1:00pm here in New York and it is now 1:45 pm, he could be late, but I figured if they gave a time stamp they would stick to it.

TLEC Admin, It was a good hunt even though you chose to segregate most of the players. Some would say that you simply gave it away to those who felt most comfortable with leaking it out there.

scoutpost & thrasher76,
About the tshirts. Randomshirts.com has offered to sell "Glyphs Can Be Fun" tshirts and also the old "I Heart Joop" shirts again. I could probably get them to do a TLEC one too. There are just 2 problems with that: 1) People will question my/our motives. I'm totally not in this to make money and have yet to make a cent on anything...but if people catch a whif of greed in me, they'll eat me alive with all kinds of accusations. 2) Surprisingly, the Save Joop shirts were not great sellers in the grand scheme of randomshirts business so they aren't super pumped about doing the work to add them to their storefront. They actually have a lot of irons in the fire right now - just came out with a new clothing line called Zasur (zasur.com). Please don't go there looking for clues :)!

Ded,
Not exactly sure what you're saying. I was pretty confident that the people I sent pics to would be willing to share whatever they got as soon as they got it. I viewed sending emails to those people as equal to posting the pics on the frontpage of this blog...I knew that they would get the word out and everyone would have a chance to see them eventually. I kept in "in-house" b/c I doubted that people from other blogs or forums would trust me and respond. Make sense?
