Clue #99 - Fragment Code "GLLV8B"

Fragment Code "GLLV8B" was found today by Team Lena (story below). The video fragment is of Mittlwerk saying, "But I promise you, someone is going to help."

*Check out Matt the Pale's summary of all the found fragment codes at...Matt the Pale's HansoExposed Video Fragment Code List

What Happened?
We posted with a quote and a link to savejoop.com. On savejoop.com, if you click where it says, "this commercial" you will be taken to a youtube video that is an amatuer commercial for a new "Glyphs Can Be Fun" t-shirt. At the end of the commercial, you'll notice the phrase, "myspace.com/randomempire" flash across the right side of the screen. If you go to that myspace, you'll find a blog post with the following message "CRAFTED GNOME: David told us he needed to hide something here and he said anyone familiar with Rachel Blake would know what to do. He said that there were 2 pathways to Rachel's latest code and that he wasn't sure which would be fastest: CONFIDED FOR US or TIGHTEST PROPHET CUE." These clusters of words were taken as anagrams for "FRAGMENT CODE", "FIND US FOR CODE", & "PUT THE PICS TOGETHER."

Most of the top 10 commenters from this blog (all that we could find email addresses for - we're so sorry lhorse007) were entrusted with pics/pieces of pics that, when put together, would reveal the code. Also two of the administrators of this site had "Glyphs Can Be Fun" t-shirts and decided to give them away to anyone who could find them today. Ultimately, William (from our podcast/Young Wallace, blogger name) was wearing the shirt and Lena (from Team Lena) found him in Oregon. She posted a few pics of the shirt and the rest is history!

Thanks to everyone who engaged in this glyph hunt, kept a good attitude and an open mind, and complimented our efforts to assist Rachel Blake as best we knew how. What a great team effort!

1st time poster,
I just started following TLE 3 weeks ago, mostly because I was in Santiago Chile and didn't know TLE existed. I found this blog when I came back to the states and have been lurking ever since trying to catch up on everything that happened in Acts 1&2. I feel like I am caught up enough to post, too bad I go back to college in a week and thus will disappear to lurking again.
Just wanted to say I think the admins did a great job today!! They had the best idea in Act 3: combining both a real world option and an internet puzzle option. My money is those people complaining are either 1) jealous they haven't received a glyph to do something with or 2) worse than spoiled 16-year olds who are pissed their parents won’t just give them a car because they deserve it.
TLEC was entrusted to reveal the glyph, they were obviously going to do that. They were not holding up a critical piece of the game. There are 37 more out there. Take a deep breath and enjoy the game for a while instead of just being handed clues without having to work for them.
Sorry for the rant, but I have really come to enjoy this blog and it makes me mad to have people come in and try to ruin it or bad mouth our admins.

Lol, one of the first things I did was go to that MySpace site ('cos it was linked from the TLEC MySpace and I was wondering where they could have hidden it). But I didn't check the blogs. Ah well.

I still hate this act. But I would say that this was the best done Glyph puzzle so far. If only this had been the first glyph and I hadn't already all but given up caring about this act I probably would have put the effort in to pass the test.

Kudos to you admins.

For the record:

It has came to my attention (thanks to matt the pale) that an imposter posing as one of our friends here posted some very mean and hurtful things.

Try and remember this when you see someone posting something mean! IT MIGHT NOT BE WHO IT SAYS IT IS! I saw the two EBlogger profiles myself! They were almost IDENTICAL! (sorry forgot to save them) I couldnt believe it! But it did make sence that one of my personal favorite posters didnt seem to be themselfs today!

I am gonna bug David to tell me what is on the back of HIS shirt! LOL

I don't get this. The glyphs go from either being a case of checking a website, to being on a flyer in a totally random place to now this? The way this glyph was set up makes absolutely no sense. Why on earth would you guys be chosen to release a glyph?

8/11/2006 02:43:00 AM
Blogger HansoLow said...

Risky, I'm sorta curious about that my self. Did the LEC crew find the glyph on their own and make this treasure hunt their way of presenting it to us? Or did TPTB give them the glyph and then told them to make a game of it? (which ever the case, in my opinion, it was at least one of the most interesting code hunts so far).

8/11/2006 02:56:00 AM
Blogger TEAM Lena said...

Well I think TPTB started to see how much TLEC is involved in the ARG and somewhere along the line I guess they are kind of now "in game" sorta! The thing I wonder is, TLEC going to be in game for good or just this one time!?!

I am still trying to grasp the fact that I was able to get my hands on an actual INGAME clue today! Still in a fog really LOL.

It will forever be a personal keepsake to remember the TLEC and the game!

Looking forward to DJDan tomorrow!!!! He is one of the most interesting things in the ARG to me besides the video research that is!

Blogger biotronx said...

i personally loved that it was done this way. Rachel knew we supported her cause and trusted tlec with the glyph. there's nothing there that doesn't make sense. and this was one of the few times that this actually felt like an ARG as apposed to an Alternate reality STORY.

Great job guys! the only thing i would have done differently is to hide the pictures online so that people other than the top 10 posters could have had more opportunity to participate, but hey, the top10 obviously have dedicated more time and in turn deserve this little treat.

thanks tlec!

I am just learning about what has been happening here for the past two days, so my comments will probably be like I'm beating a dead horse.

This seemed like the greatest way to entice people back into the ARG. If this is the promise of gameplay, where these glyphs are "puzzle"-ized, then I just hope to stay hooked to the comments.

I used to be hard on the random shirts people for using this ARG to make money (Sprite, Jeep, Verizon, and monster.com, I'm looking at you), but now they've surpassed TPTB in the way to reveal a glyph to the public, in my humble opinion.

I am in no way clear about the new direction of the ARG from TPTB's perspective. I only hope gameplay begins to kick ass for all of us and not just the Top 10 Posters in TLEC.

Listen the fact is these fan sites were built to involve and interact more people to the lost experience and Lost in general...instead they alienated many people, people who didn't have programs on their computer that could reverse audio and video files etc.... people who weren't almost losing their jobs at work to do this...I love lost, by rewarding this site...it should have been a reward for EVERYONE that has ever participated here...not just the admins...cause we have all spent some time....instead it was just an inside joke and another test.
Where was the reward for those of which have been loyal to this site? Id rather this site NOT be in-game.

how come Main has now find 3 glyphs and is top of the leaderboard? Anyone know? I thought Lena found the glyph, and presumably #29 is still out there somewhere.

8/11/2006 05:01:00 AM
Blogger Fat Lazy Guy said...

wrangler, the people who were given the pics were supposed to be (and I think they were) shared with everyone so they all could figure it out. Some of the people didn't check their emails. Someone decoded the whole thing before everyone else and got the shirt, and they shared it with everyone.

I still don't get why everyone has a problem with this? People don't get upset when Ninja posts a clue. Heck, he doesn't even make a puzzle before he posts it. If Speaker were to post a clue in real life, would people be this upset?

I mean, it's been this way all throughout the game. Someone figures it out before you, and they get the kudos.

Hell, if anyone has a right to be angry, it's us people in places that don't even get acknowledgement. New Zealand gets episodes before Australia, but we don't even get a blogger. Glyphs get released in the middle of the night over here. But it doesn't matter. No one has ever withheld information about a glyph, it's always been shared.

Hello everyone. I missed the end of David's treasure hunt due to work/sleep last night. Bravo to everyone involved! And I retract my former cynicism over the use of savejoop.com :)

Just one question... where did the pics of the letter G and the Bumble Bee come from? As far as I could tell when I left, we'd put pieces of the V-8 Fusion drink bottles together, and some other folks were discussing LL Cool J (although I couldn't work out why).

This kind of puzzle solving is how the hunt for every glyph should be!! TPTB TAKE NOTE!

But no matter, David understood that we were upset and wanted to have a puzzle, a hunt. And bpy oh boy did he deliver. I hope TPTB were paying attetnion to this.

I am so jealous LENA!!! I want a shirt to! Perhaps David can have shirts made that say, "I wasted my summer 2006 playing TLE on TLEC!!"

hey admin - nice job with todays clue. thanks for trying to wake everybody up a little (including myself). a couple things:

1. i feel like a big dolt - was ranting on here the other day about the slow pace of the game etc and admin blogged in response to "remember: Glyphs Can Be Fun". perhpas admin was trying to steer me in a direction but of course i was dense. sorry admin, my bad - ill try to be more observant ..
2. how DID u get this clue? does this mean admin is, at least partialy, ingame?

seems like the people in charge are releasing the clues to a few who in turn are responsible for releasing them to the rest of us, in whatever ways they deem fit - which is cool, and props to admin for taking an interesting direction with it - but does that mean those people not part of the player community anymore but rather part of the game provider? - (im sure that could be phrased better but its very early here) - i guess its all good as it doesnt make that much difference to most of us individually, but it seems like the lines are getting a little blurred as to where the game starts, whos in on it, etc - just an observation.

anyway thanks for an interesting day ... waiting to see what happens next

The hunt was fun, I must say. The only disappointment for me is that David called it a race (in mid race). What we did not know at the time is that as a total player group, we did not have the same access to the finish line. Waiting on people to check their e-mail in order to get our clues was just painful. Still loved it though, it was one of the high points in the game for sure. Props to TLEC...

David, William, all pictures getters, everyone...the hunt was excellent. It was so much fun! For folks that are upset, and can't figure why TLEC got a glyph, ponder this: Rachel and ROT have mentioned specific players on their blogs, why wouldn't Rachel reward a Bolg responsible for helping her, with a glyph. Someone above mentioned this breaking the 4th wall...how so? Do you really have to be in-game to be a part of the game? Anyway, excellent job guys, I was dreaming of LL, v8, and b's all night:)!

Can I "defect" to TLEC please? I was getting my fragments from hansoexposedfragments.com ... They're not even acknowledging the truth about Lena getting the glyph for everyone. Their claim is that they saw it in the "Glyphs are fun" ad. What a crock of [insert your brand of animal feces here]. You guys here are more committed and determined so I take back the comment I made about being perturbed that the code had to be found half away across the country from where I sat but I digress ... Can I play too?

Although... in case of insomnia... any idea where on the ABC site to find the show?

Hey admins,

Just wanted to let you know this last clue has been the best part of Act 3, so far. I played the game for about 2 weeks when it started. I rejoined when Act 3 had already started and got caught up real quickly via TLEC. This is the first time since I got back into the game that I felt involved in the hunt instead of getting a recap of what other ppl found. You guys are awesome, and, hopefully, TPTB can borrow some ideas from yesterday and liven up Act 3.

Ange the dharma logos on the show have that kind of thing going in some are a white image on a black background and others are a black on white. I think that relates to my theory about the electromagnets polarity. The magnet was suck metal towards it then when desmond turned the dharma key it pushed metal away( the quarentine door flying in the air). I think it all ties to the yinyang/bad twin/ evil doppleganger(marvin and mark) thing they got going

I don't think so - it's been spoiled (is that a correct term) that Locke will be part of a group that goes off to save Sawyer, Kate and Jack. I imagine that wouldn't happen if he lost his ability to walk. Unless it happens slowly, over time.

remember when locke was talking to his phone sex operator that he was pretending to be peg bundy. He had an electromagnetic stimulation device on his legs to keep the muscles stimulated in his legs. I think the polarity switch may affect peoples behavior more than anything, MY other theory spoiller!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! on Fenry Gayle and the others is that they are infertile and Fenry made locke question his faith in the button so that he would stop pressing it so other ship and planes would be attracted there, much how I thought Kelvin purposely let desmond see the hole in his suit to get him to question the button and leave the hatch, remeber kelvin was goinh to take the dharma key and fenry had no way of knowing desmond would be back with the key. Fenry wanted that crazt light thing to go to its total conclusion...

Regarding yesterday evening's incident involving a troll... One of my jobs here is to keep the blog clean and family-safe. I had an obligation to remove all offensive comments, including those with profanity and blatant and offensive insults. I didn't join in because the best way to get rid of a troll is to simply ignore it, however, trying my best not to infringe on anyone's right to express their discontent, however illfounded it may be, I had to sift through as the "discussion" was occurring to remove all offensive language, regardless of whether I agreed with what I was deleting or not.

TLEC did an incredible job with glyph from yesterday. This is what we expect from this ARG and if this entire phase had been played like yesterday, we wouldn't be missing the key players we are today. I heard "around the way" that this is supposed to be an "everyman's phase", whereas TPTB may have felt that the first couple of phases, which required more thought, technical knowledge and teamwork, may have alienated some people. However, it seems that it may have backfired, in that, some key players have dropped from the game, possibly never to return... meh... they will be missed and I hope for their return... if TPTB are paying attention to any of the blog's/forums out there, I anticipate the next phase of this to require more thought, and be more like what we were just treated to yesterday

i still think the game should move a little faster - remember that the puzzles etc are fun but the payoff is not really a real clue but 1/70th of a clue (the video) ..its an awful lot of work to put in for minimal returns .. seems like before the frags started there was more substantial reward for the efforts being put forth; when rachel put out her vids we got complete vids, daily for a while, not 5 second pieces of vids ... it would be nice if there were another line the game could explore simultaneous to the piecing together of this video ... perhaps the apollo bar thing will lead to something interesting .. I am really hoping it doesnt just lead to another tiny fragment of a video, the final contents of which are mostly already known about (awkward grammar there sorry)

Some things I think you guys have the right to know:

1. What happened yesterday...I don't know for sure but it was most likely a one time deal. If it happens again, you'll know it and I promise I won't mess with you. I know it was weird and maybe off-setting but I couldn't pass up a chance to help Rachel Blake.

2. I did my best to protect Rachel by hiding the glyph in a way that only the "good guys" could find, but I realize that I wasn't perfect in my execution. First, I mispelled TIGHTEST in my message to the myspace.com/randomempire people and that was a major screw up. Secondly, I failed to email all of the people that I said I would and caused some confusion. I didn't have lhorse007's email address and I just had a brain fart and think I forgot to email Crossfade. For that I am deeply sorry. I also emailed a few people outside of the "top 10" because I was trying to help move things along...this may have caused more confusion/alienation for some people and I regret it if it did. Hindsight is 20/20 and there are many things that could have been done differently...I have to keep reminding myself that I am only one man and this was my first try at something like this.

3. Here is a pic detailing who was emailed what. A couple of the pics were sent out twice and I kept changing the filenames to match the person's screen name that I was sending it to...therefore, I forgot who got what in a few instances. For example, the pic that was sent to wizardry_eas was sent to someone else as well and I forgot which one I sent to wizardry_eas. That is why his name is not listed but I know I sent him one.

4. The reason why I did things the way I did was because I was personally motivated to accomplish a few things...A) honor the faithful hardcore contributors to this blog while allowing everyone else an equal chance at finding a solution, B) foster a sense of community by making teamwork a necessity for success, C) balance variety and fun with urgency and intrigue by creating an online & offline path for glyph discovery.

5. I am grateful to Rachel for including me in this experience but I am also very exhausted. I don't know how she does it! I am also grateful for all of you who supported my efforts yesterday and couldn't be more excited about sharing the rest of this experience with you all. I am saddened by the hurtful comments made by a few and, while I wish the delivery was less harsh, am trying my best to understand and recieve them as constructive criticism. I think I'll be taking most of the weekend "off" to recover. :)

You guys ROCK! It was so cool watching everything go down yesterday. Everyone did great and I think we made Rachel proud. ;)

with the apollo site changing I got think 29 is still on there or something that means something. I still think the chocolate bar the lady is holding is the key, there are two layers to this picture. the obvious layer looks like the imprint on the candy bar,but if change your focus other characters appear. the last three being AVH

I must say that persanally, I dont have all the time that some others have to do research, etc., having a business full time with a family, and I think there are a few others out there like me. I want to tell all of you that I appreciate being able to piggyback upon your efforts and thereby enjoy the game. I guess it is one of the reasons I wish things would move a little faster, because I know that the way it is right now it is hard for those of us like me to feel involved fully - putting hours in a day every day in order to find a tiny piece of a clue - hours that I dont really have. I try to get involoved but it always seems to go past what I am able to do. But I want to thank all of you who do spend all the hours for making your efforts available so we can have fun too ...

Admin - I have no critizims at all about how you handled it yesterday (any critiszms were from the troll impersonating me).

I hope TPTB follow your example and hard work for future glyps releases

Admin- (David)
Even though I don't post much, I want you to know that those of us who've been lurking for a long time (speaking for myself, that is) really enjoyed yesterday. I appreciate so much all your effort. Thank you!!!

as for future glyphs I think DJ Dan will provide one or hint as to where to locate one. Maybe even the mysterious #29?

noblelawyer,
I didn't get home last night until around 11:30 (I met & gave a tshirt to "Scully" by the way!). The first thing I read when I opened my laptop in bed was your impersonator. My wife was freaking out and I knew something had to be wrong. For a second there I thought those painkillers had gotten to you or you were mad at me for not visiting you while I was in N.O. or something!

Well said David. I think the other bloggers on the other game sites just got a little jealous. Don't apologize to them, they should be apologizing to us and thanking TLEC for a great hunt. Kudos..

Maybe something to do with the bar code (185192) or expy date (OCT 23-06) on the candy bar?

whitefalcon - I'd like to back up what you say. I only have the time to post from time to time, and am limited to the amount of time I can surf looking for glyphs (and being in London, going to Sydney Harbour is a bit of a no no!) So I really appreciated the fact I was sitting yesterday evening with a pen and paper, trying to work out anagrams, and feeling a part of a community. Thanks to admin and all for a great experience!

yesterday's clue was the best thus far, with the javisminions.com clue a far second.

that said, we had essentially figured out the PUT THE PICS TOGETHER route but were paralyzed by one person's absence (i.e. Maven and his G picture). my only suggestion would be to have made each pic available to be found without having to rely on one specific individual.

other than that, it was very well done! thanks.

I still don't have a clue why that troll elected to impersonate noblelawyer. Fortunately, he was recognized as false pretty early, and even called himself a troll in one of those posts.

He was just a dis-satisfied curmudgeon, putulantly stamping his foot and crying "I want my own ARG, made just for me," like Veruca Salt.

I had fun yesterday, and probably came the closest I will ever come to resolving a clue in this game.

Noblelawyer, as I joked with Scully over at ITE, it was a fun working as a sub-team of lawyers (Scully is one too).

ryandrumz,
Maybe jealousy...but I try to give everybody the benefit of the doubt and put myself in their shoes. Lots of people have been deeply involved in following Rachel's exploits from the beginning and have never needed to worry about our little blog. I can see how it would be frustrating to suddenly feel like you're on the outside looking in. They don't know our names, our culture, our history, etc and it could be very confusing.

There isn't much I/we can do about it except be sensitive to it and be as understanding and helpful as possible.

admin, did you read lena's question about what appeared on the back of the shirt?

8/11/2006 12:21:00 PM
Blogger Administrator said...

dfizz,

Oh, I'm glad you said that! I forgot to mention that my plan was to distribute the "G" picture by midnight (CST) if Maven hadn't checked in or if nobody had found/posted about the tshirt.

Ultimately I would have liked for the puzzle to have been solved around the same time as the tshirt people were sitting down at their keyboards. That is next to impossible to coordinate!

yes, the race between the anagrams was very creative and definitely gave each side a sense of urgency!

dfizz (& lena),

There was nothing on the back on either of the shirts. In the video, I was wearing the yellow shirt over another shirt that was red. You probably saw the design on the red shirt showing through.
