Thanks for taking the time ezrasace.

Since the ad has a pseudo glyph in it, it's clearly legit.

It's also clearly a ploy to make us spend hours researching through the Verizon site. I can only be grateful that it wasn't a sublymonal ad.

I was actually going to run to the corner and pick up a copy myself. Thanks ezrasace for the heads up on the Britney cover. You saved me a trip.

Fenric? Wasn't that from Doctor Who?

I think I am actually just off on one. To explain a bit, it's the Verizon add. The ROT guys said stuff about "The bottom of it" and I noticed what looked like the tops of letters at the bottom. There was what looked like the bottom of letters at the top, so I cut it in half and matched it up. It kinda linked up...but, it didn't really look much like a word or string of letters even. I mean you can kinda see maybe an A at the start and some W's but it's not very likely to be genuine.

Ho hum.

I'd like to bring up again the question of this video's authenticity. The only clue we have is the telephone message (which is probably real). But Are we sure that he as referring to this vide? Anyone can print a T-shirt glyph, film himself, and put it on YouTube with a name that's an anagram of Rachel Blake. We've seen quite plenty of fakes in the past. How do we know that this is not one? ABC wouldn't give out "encoded emssages" that were untranslatable (although, the Korean Peppershaker message comes to mind, but in that one you had all of the parts). Here the face is missing, and the video's low quality is kind of a giveaway.

Unless there's some evidence that I don't know about yet.

mstk - the only other evidence was on sublymanal.com If you type in Chocolates it gave us the anagram for the number.

And that led us to YouTube because the message you get when you call the # is "sod off, I'm watching the tube"

8/17/2006 08:08:00 PM
Blogger FYSB said...

mstk, worthy questions. i had my doubts about the last one with the torn up memo (still think it's lame that someone would rip up a memo, take pictures of the pieces in various settings, then post ALL the pictures on the same page, but....i'll let it go. also still bugged by the implied sprite/drug association).

however, one thing that leads me to trust the authenticity is that when 2costa inadvertantly figured out the password to the toll free number that started this gig, ninja asked (through tapdawg i think) that 2costa send him the password.

i'd like the thoughts of the rest of you on the authenticity thang

I think it's kind of amazing how much sites liek YouTube and MySpace has assymilated itself into popular culture. A reference of "watching the tube" immediately draws us to YouTube.

I still have some doubts on the credibility and authenticity of this video, but I can't really do anything about it. Right now it's our only lead on the Sod Off phone call, and until we have another one (if we do), we're going to milk this dry.

NIN_BrokenHalo5 - I know what you're talking about. It's these "unfolding" moments that really make TLE worth it. Unfortunately they are very hard to catch "in-motion", because tehy usually only last for a few hours a couple of times a week. If only there was a way to have them more often...

Wow, like no one else seems to have turned up to work yet today. Wonder if THF go them. Either that or it's Saturday and I've lost track of time. Still may mean I can waste my day on here instead of soldering. woohoo.

Just thought I'd share that. I may have something constructive later. Then again, maybe not.

8/18/2006 03:32:00 AM

so i spent some more time at WhereIsAlvarHanso.com and looked a little closer at the content.

In the first letter that Alvar sent the mystery person, there are a few italicized characters interspersed amongst the words, which spell out the word 'help'. Sounds to me like Alvar hasn't been on business trips or vacationing at all, but that he's on the run. From who I couldn't say for sure, but I'd assume some of his (former) colleagues over at THF.

The second note that came in the package Alvar sent is another matter. Firstly, there is a typo at the top of the stationery that says 'Form the desk of Alvar Hanso,' as opposed to 'From.' I can't help but think this is deliberate.

Next, we have what are almost certainly GPS coordinates. Upon entering them into Google Maps, I got three different locations:

23.115234375 -39.97712009843963: middle of atlantic ocean
-28.30078125 38.41055825094609: off the coast of africa, between south africa and madagascar; slightly south of madagascar
-47.021484375 27.293689224852404: directly south of the coast of south africa

What the significance of all these points might be, I'm not sure; perhaps a path Alvar was travelling on? Hard to say.

Lastly, both of the notes are signed with the acronym "YITB". Unless I missed something from earlier, I have no idea what it means. Could be helpful in figuring out more.

There's still that little bit from the page's source code that's bugging me; the long string of letters and numbers...I'm sure it's some sort of encrypted code, but I've no idea what algorithm it might be using. Hopefully somebody who's better with numbers could figure it out.

Sorry if any/all of this has been posted before, but near as I can tell this page only just very recently became active, so hopefully some of this info is new and potentially useful.

www.whereisalvar.com is the one that should go live soon.

Hey Lena.

One of my co-workers actually came in, was violently ill and went home. Lol. I'm gonna head home in a bit too I think. I'm just gonna solder one token loom (a big fat lead with lots of little leads inside) and then head off I think. Trouble is I've broken the caffine barrier now, even if I get back to my bed I won't sleep. Dunno what happened to me last night, but I tell you what, in the one hour I actually managed to sleep I had some whacky dreams about The Hanso Foundation. I think this is effecting my sanity. Well, what's left of it.

Btw, I think WhereisAlvarHanso is totally fake.

If you're referring to Verizon's chocolate phone, someone said something yesterday I think that I found interesting. Verizon wireless and Verizon's broadband services are two different parts of the company that are handled separately. So far, all of the in-game stuff has had to do with the broadband side of it, not the wireless, right? I have a feeling that half is not even involved in the game, so I don't think the Chocolate phone stuff is related IMHO

NiteSea, I think all we can do is take Ninja's word. He says he got it from RB, so I think he got it from RB. And if this is the only hint we get, but you want to wait for other things to point in the same direction you may be waiting a long time.

"travelling in the real world"... modes of transport... easily seen? I would think land based... a Jeep with an intersting paint job? A big honking truck? I can't decide where to go with this...

travelling could also mean en route to somewhere... but there's even less to work on with that.

Two early morning thoughts:
1. Could the ink dots on the glyph with no visible code be a code Braille? Can someone check that out?
2. I wonder if there's a real Apollo Candy Jeep being driven around the country to build interest in the giveaway and the ARG, and there's a code on it? That would be moving and where the Aussies won't find it.

Hmm, so the Glyph is moving and likely in the UK or US.

Anyone got a date on when that glyph went active on HE? Perhaps we can narrow it down and find the origional clue.

I would for the time being assume it is active because Rachel didn't email all three of our guides. Having said that Speaks has gone until tomorrow afternoon and TOG is just lazy and probably too busy getting beers in for the Big Brother finale tonight.

Mind you he also said "Sadly, there are no glyphs from me today."

There could be something in the mailbag, but with the above in mind I'm gonna move on to his week 14 round up in which there is only one smalltalk type comment, the rest is business and that was about MTP's glyph list:

"which he keeps up in between volunteer firefighting and taking every pro bono law case he can."

Pressuming Matt doesn't do the firefighting and lawyering, maybe there is something in that? Probably not.

Okay I'm gonna check TOGs sblodge now.

"Probably my favourite bit of last night's rather tasty episode was the sheer daftness of Hurley's 'explanation' of his Apollo chocolate bar's existence when he stumbled upon Sun... lovely!"

Joining the glyph#29 hunt...

In his last article, Doc Jensen said we should watch "Popwatch" for Lost Experience updates.

The only lost-related post on Popwatch on August 7 was this one:

who_should_lost.html

about a new Lost cast member. At the end of that post, Michael Slezak asks who else should be on the cast. Scanning the comments, I noticed one suggesting Rachel Blake be added to the cast. It's from "Therefan", and the name is linked. The link goes to thehansofoundation.org, which has not apparently changed. However, taking a look at the html source, the hidden tag which used to direct us to www.rachelblake.com now points to www.djdan.am -- I'm not sure when that changed.

Surfing over to DJ Dan's page, I noticed that in his sidebar he has a bunch of "Member of" logos, one of which is for "THERE".

At that point, I'm stuck. Anyone else want to pick up?

lavenda/Thrasher-per your earlier question about apollocandy and the ARG mon. updates. It is consensus in chat that the updates are the result of the distribution button being removed from the pages, and it seems that maybe a back-up site has been reverted to (maybe an accident). It would make sense though that the button's removal would make it look like changes were made on all of the pages, and a back-up would explain why the ad is haveing troubles again.

I had a look of the apollocandy.com flash files.
There are 3 changes I see:
1)The US distribution button gone
2) there is a small hidden icon for a movie in The Ad but it's not visible when you click on The Ad, so not activated yet.
3) The balloon in The Company is now an Apollo Candy Balloon!!! so maybe distribution will be by balloon? Bet ya.

jpike,
I believe the widely accepted interpretation right now is...

"TRAVELLING IN THE REAL WORLD" = the glyph appears somewhere in the real world, possibly on a mode of transportation

"YOU WON'T FIND IT" = Ninja won't find it, as in it's not in his neck of the woods, so likely US or UK

oodles-check apollo flash files again...on the site, the US Button is back, and the ad is now working again, but many of the pictures have changed. All except the jeep and the man. Also, notice how the new pics cover the bar codes and such....hmmm.
Also, there have been distribution DATES ADDED!!!

There's a Verizon ad in the latest people. I think the glyph code is in the eye or there's a glyph with no letters in the lower corner.

I couldn't make anything out. I don't have a very good scanner or good image software.

whoa, that's weird... when you go to US distribution and then click the "apollo" link at the top to return to the main page, the US dist link is replaced by a UK one, but it still doesn't work...

There is now a UK Dist. button on apollocandy too...although it just loads at the moment.

I am going to go completly nuts if they do not add the Philly date back in...Right now I am super angry with TPTB...there is no reason to put it up one day then take it away, if they add them back in, fine...otherwise...I may bail on this whole thing...I have made plans to go to this event on my day off...do they want to lose a loyal fan of the game and the SHOW???? This may be the straw that breaks the Thrasher76's back....I hope you are reading this TPTB!!!

belly,
don't hit the "APOLLO" link in the upper right to go back on any of the pages... it links to an incorrect version of the homepage I think where the US is replaced by non-loading UK link
