Beginning at 5 PM, a new clue will be exposed to the light of day in the greater Los Angeles area. It will also be on display outside 11766 Wilshire Blvd. in Los Angeles on Aug. 21, from 6 AM to 9 AM.

Now that is interesting, with the whole flashlight thing. If I ever saw a blatant clue, that is it.

The "11766 Wilshire Blvd. in Los Angeles on Aug. 21, from 6 AM to 9 AM." seems a tad specifc.

Has to be a new glyph I reckon.

And how much of this game has taken place in England, we have glyphs popping up in Australia and the US. But doesn't seem to be much in the UK. So it seems like the British Consulate would seem like a good comprimise.

Lena, did your husband get tired of the search for the infamous #29?

Wow, given current events in England, I'm amazed (skeptical?) they would encourage a bunch of Losties to converge at the Consulate early in the morning. My skepticism now marks the 107th time I've been wrong in this game.

11766 Wilshire is not just the consulate. It's an office building known as Landmark II and is home to the Entertainment Weekly News Desk (in suite 1700). I'll bet that's where Doc Jensen works out of.

Re #42
Pondering some bits from RoT
To tell the sleuth. = To tell the detective who follows a trail (syn. sleuthhound)
Meaning? Who is the sleuth/detective? RB? Or just a word play on "to tell the truth"?

And I was crazy ... like a fox. = CRAZY LIKE (OR AS) A FOX - ".seemingly foolish but in fact extremely cunning."
So DSLerator was sly / cunning like a fox? In what way exactly?

And as for Comic Con? I was there and not there, if you know what I mean? We know BBB was not there, so how WAS he there? Incognito? As Mel0drama?

Don't know if this is at all relevant as at the bottom of that thread we got the clue for #44 but who knows...

My feeling is that today's clue is an outdoor bulletin, in which case it could be anywhere in LA. I could be wrong, it's just a guess.

Sunset Blvd on the westside is usually where the entertainment companies vie for outdoor ad space (I do media planning for entertainment clients...), but really if it's a bulletin it could be anywhere.

If Kodak / Hollywood & Highland turns up nothing, how about the Griffith Observatory Satellite Building (since the main building is currently closed).

It would be a good place to expose something to the light of day, by placing it outside the planetarium. It would also feed into the extraterrestrial theories very nicely.

Aside to thinbluemime: I'm finding all of the fox references quite interesting. Speaker interviewed The Fox, now "sly as a fox" has been mentioned, plus there was the fox mask in the St. Germain flat. The Dogon tribe would enjoy TLE.

I don't think it has to be both something travelling and something they can leave on display for 3 hours. I think if it is not found over the weekend, they'll take it down from its current location and hang a sign out in front of the building or something...

Is there a bus or subway that stops near the EW building?

Yeah, I looked it up, but the address is for MANY consulates in Los Angeles including the Netherlands, Croatia, Romania & Switzerland as well as the British, so there could be an interesting reason why they're doing it there, no? GLYPH - What is a glyph?
The term has been used in English since 1727, loaned from glyphe in use by French antiquaries (since 1701), from Greek γλυφη "a carving," from γλύφειν
"to hollow out,
engrave, carve" (cognate to Latin glubere "to peel" and English cleave)

Sigil - What is a sigil?

A sigil (pronounced /'sɪdʒ.ɪl/ or /'sɪg.ɪl/; pl. sigila or sigils) is a symbol created for a specific magical purpose. The term sigil derives from the Latin sigilum meaning "seal," though it may also be related to the Hebrew סגולה (segulah meaning "talisman"). The old norse binding rune is an example of the idea. However, sigila differ from runes as they are designed not to represent an alphabet but are created to form a glyph, composed of a variety of symbols or concepts which carry intent and inherent iconic meaning.

can't help it... I'm still thinking Urballoon (featured at Broadbandstories).
Urballoon is an urban media space: a balloon equipped with a projector and wireless connection to the web that enables people to submit content online and broadcast it in public spaces.

The balloon is located in open urban spaces frequented by pedestrians at sunset and night (e.g. plazas, parks). The ball is tethered and floats at a height of approximately 3 stories. The images and text submitted via this site are projected directly below it.

"Beginning at 5 PM, a new clue will be exposed TO THE LIGHT OF DAY in the greater Los Angeles area"...

My two cents:

1) the expression "to the light of day" seem superfluous to me (the sentence would be as inteligible if it was missing). Therefore, it MUST be a clue. We should check for correlations between L.A. and a place, building or person known as "the light of day". (or somebody whose name resembles that expression). Perhaps some actor or actress represented at the walk of fame, whose surname (in french, polish or whatever) means "daylight"?

2) exposed "to the light of day" at 5 PM? When is sunset time these days? I don't live in LA, but I imagine The sun is probably way down by 5 PM (edit: well, I just checked and the sun is setting around 18:30, unless California is under "daylight saving time').

It seems to me that the clue (a) will be released somewhere that is illuminate by the (about to be) setting sun, or (b) it has nothing to do with actual daylight, as would be the case if my forementioned 'walk of fame' theory is correct. I wouldn't be surprised if we found a gliph inside a star near the Chinese Theatre...

Blogger fgradel said...

I googled "Light of Day" and found a 1987 movie and also a quote from a Springsteen song: "I got a little lost along the way, but I'm just around the corner to the light of day." Sounds to me like a lament from a gliph-sniffing lostie...

I also googled "light of day" with "Los Angeles", and discovered the "Light of Day" concerts in LA, sponsored by the "Light of Day" foundation. It's a NJ based foundation, but they had some concerts in Hollywood in 2005. Perhaps there's anything planned also for this year?

http://www.lightofday.org/releases/2005-11-28.shtml

Or maybe there's an office in LA for the "Light of Day Foundation"...

Anyway, these are just examples, the gliph is probably someplace else. But I suggest more extensive research related to the "light of day" mention. Me, I'm going to bed now... (almost midnight here in Brazil). bye!

So here in LA there are what one would call travelling bill boards. It is basically a truck with a bill board on it's back and they travel the freeways during rush hour. It would be easy to park somewhere and then on the 21st, move it to that building. Just an idea.

"exposed to the light of day" after 5pm Friday, and on display Monday from 6-9am outside Jeff Jensen's office building...

Does anyone think that checking the 17th floor windows of the building would be possible? I can't help but think maybe Jeff "exposed it to the light of day" by taping it to a window right as he leaves work Friday, showing outward, and then plans on also making a big display right before he goes to work on Monday.

What a crazy clue!

BTW, if anyone's going to that building on Monday morning, you can probably park right behind it in the Pavilions parking lot. It's really hard to find street parking around there. You could also take the 720 or the 20 and end up really close to that building (just across Barrington). I grew up right around there, so let me know you guys have any questions.

Do you think it could be an early Apollo Bar distribution?

8/19/2006 11:58:00 PM
Blogger uniquin said...

What I found interesting is the very precise wording used. It's not in "LA" or in "daylight" but the "greater LA area" and "light of day".

I also found the Train named daylight but brushed that aside. What I settled on, dear readers, is the DAY BUILDING, located not in LA proper but in the greater LA area, which focuses it's wild structural motifs around *natural light*. The "light of DAY".

Anyway, someone might wanna check it out if they are close. Happy hunting!

It's seeming more and more likely to me that 29 & 42 were intended to be revealed in some manner involving the show. Since they yanked Lost off ABC so quickly, these two were lost in the shuffle.

Or it's intentional. 42 IS one of the numbers, and if you break down 29, it's 8+15+16.

Be most amusing if the fragments we get from these two are just the film damage scenes...

i explained everything to teh security lady inside and asked if she knew anything, but she didn't... she said the art has been there for years.... there was some yellow tape outside, which the security lady attributed to some "filling repairs", so I don't think it was relevant at all... i told her that when she sees something going down outside on monday morning, she'll know what's up.... then we went up and down Sunset and Hollywood blvds, looking at billboards and signs, but didn't find anything.... picked up a free "LA" paper... going to look through it and post anything I find...

I wish I could help checking these places out, but alas, I on the wrong coast. I've been thinking about the "exposed" to the light of day. Which made me think of tanning. Then the greater LA area led me to think Venise Beach. From there I don't know? If we do think it is moving (travelling) - maybe the Urballoon, maybe a plane flyer, or maybe on some really fit rollerblader? Maybe it's written in the sand or flying on a kite?

My second guess with exposed to the sun, would be Sunset Blvd. It's been so long seen I've been to LA, I can't think of any thing specific to look for. If it can't be found, then at least we know it will be on the Wilshire Building tommorow - that is if Doc Jenson isn't full of poppycock!

Just my interpretation. Good look and good hunting!

I Still think we need someone to go to 11766 Wilshire and check the exterior windows of the 17th floor. Also, maybe go in and check the entrance to Suite 1700.

Jeff Jensen was given this code to get out. I don't think they'd make two big displays of it. More than likely the glyph is right now being "exposed" very simply, and more elaborately on Monday. Jeff is likely working by himself, so think more simply.
