Now that is interesting, with the whole flashlight thing. If I ever saw a blatant clue, that is it.

The "11766 Wilshire Blvd. in Los Angeles on Aug. 21, from 6 AM to 9 AM." seems a tad specifc.

Has to be a new glyph I reckon.

11766 Wilshire is not just the consulate. It's an office building known as Landmark II and is home to the Entertainment Weekly News Desk (in suite 1700). I'll bet that's where Doc Jensen works out of.

Re #42
Pondering some bits from RoT
To tell the sleuth. = To tell the detective who follows a trail (syn. sleuthhound)
Meaning? Who is the sleuth/detective? RB? Or just a word play on "to tell the truth"?

And I was crazy ... like a fox. = CRAZY LIKE (OR AS) A FOX - ".seemingly foolish but in fact extremely cunning."
So DSLerator was sly / cunning like a fox? In what way exactly?

And as for Comic Con? I was there and not there, if you know what I mean? We know BBB was not there, so how WAS he there? Incognito? As Mel0drama?

Don't know if this is at all relevant as at the bottom of that thread we got the clue for #44 but who knows...

My feeling is that today's clue is an outdoor bulletin, in which case it could be anywhere in LA. I could be wrong, it's just a guess.

Sunset Blvd on the westside is usually where the entertainment companies vie for outdoor ad space (I do media planning for entertainment clients...), but really if it's a bulletin it could be anywhere.

Also, he was giving the location for where it will be Monday morning, but I don't think we're necessarily limited to that area now. It seems like it's kind of out there "on the loose" so to speak for now, and if no one finds it before Monday morning, they will move it...

GLYPH - What is a glyph?
The term has been used in English since 1727, loaned from glyphe in use by French antiquaries (since 1701), from Greek γλυφη "a carving," from γλύφειν
"to hollow out,
engrave, carve" (cognate to Latin glubere "to peel" and English cleave)

Sigil - What is a sigil?

A sigil (pronounced /'sɪdʒ.ɪl/ or /'sɪg.ɪl/; pl. sigila or sigils) is a symbol created for a specific magical purpose. The term sigil derives from the Latin sigilum meaning "seal," though it may also be related to the Hebrew סגולה (segulah meaning "talisman"). The old norse binding rune is an example of the idea. However, sigila differ from runes as they are designed not to represent an alphabet but are created to form a glyph, composed of a variety of symbols or concepts which carry intent and inherent iconic meaning.

can't help it... I'm still thinking Urballoon (featured at Broadbandstories).
Urballoon is an urban media space: a balloon equipped with a projector and wireless connection to the web that enables people to submit content online and broadcast it in public spaces.

The balloon is located in open urban spaces frequented by pedestrians at sunset and night (e.g. plazas, parks). The ball is tethered and floats at a height of approximately 3 stories. The images and text submitted via this site are projected directly below it.

"exposed to the light of day" after 5pm Friday, and on display Monday from 6-9am outside Jeff Jensen's office building...

Does anyone think that checking the 17th floor windows of the building would be possible? I can't help but think maybe Jeff "exposed it to the light of day" by taping it to a window right as he leaves work Friday, showing outward, and then plans on also making a big display right before he goes to work on Monday.

What a crazy clue!

BTW, if anyone's going to that building on Monday morning, you can probably park right behind it in the Pavilions parking lot. It's really hard to find street parking around there. You could also take the 720 or the 20 and end up really close to that building (just across Barrington). I grew up right around there, so let me know you guys have any questions.

Do you think it could be an early Apollo Bar distribution?

I Still think we need someone to go to 11766 Wilshire and check the exterior windows of the 17th floor. Also, maybe go in and check the entrance to Suite 1700.

Jeff Jensen was given this code to get out. I don't think they'd make two big displays of it. More than likely the glyph is right now being "exposed" very simply, and more elaborately on Monday. Jeff is likely working by himself, so think more simply.

Good job you guys! Working so hard, but getting no glyph is not fair. But I guess we'll know tomorrow.

Ok on another note- this relates to the Apollo site. I don't know if this was mentioned already or not, but did anyone notice the time discrepancies in the history of M. David Benson? It says he was born in 1938, and that he served in the Korean War. The Korean War lasted from 1950-1953 which means that MDB would have been 12-15 years old when he shared the chocolate with his pals in the foxhole. Then it said that he envisioned the Apollo bar in that foxhole, and that less than 2 years later the vision had become a reality. Then if you go to "the company" story, it says he didn't start the Apollo company until 1962 (at least 7 years after the foxhole experience). Has this been pointed out before? Does it mean anything or do you guys think TPTB just made a mistake?

Thought I'd throw this out there since there isn't too much else going on right now **bummer**

Blogger RyaNDrumZ said...

good job everybody, but looks like we have to wait till monday. Scoutpost - Good catch on the apollo site, very strange that they put the incorrect for us to find. I couldn't imagine TPTB mess up like this again...Maybe we are missing something.

8/20/2006 01:23:00 PM
Blogger k.barrick said...

See, this is what confuses me today and did even MORE so yesterday.

TPTB give out the glyphs to certain sponsors/participants of the game. Verizon has their outlet (ads and ROT) to give out their clues. Jeep has their's (ads and LYCGU.com). ABC has Times Square/Speaker/Rachel's blog. Austraila has Ninja, etc.

People and EW magazine have had these ads. Because of a publisher deal or because of the obvious high-profile nature of those mags. Jeff "Doc" Jensen gets some glyphs. Because he's a decent-profile level fan, like Jimmy Kimmel? Fine. But how would he or TIME publications display the clue? Something suited towards them.

And since this isn't the FIRST glyph Jeff "Doc" Jensen has given out, WHY DID HE ENTER IT INTO HANSOEXPOSED.COM? He didn't last time. Why this time?

If this is the elusive #29 and Ninja was told that it was "traveling," did Jeff "Doc" Jensen have it ALL THIS TIME and just botch up the release. Is this last minute e-mail and hasty display schedule him trying to make up for a f***-up? A vague clue on DJ Dan's podcast is NOT the same as an equally vague clue sent in an e-mail to a fan-site's admin who didn't think it merited home page space (I agree with that decision, btw. Not being snarky).

I'm going to stop typing this epic now.

Excellent job. I read that history last night and thought something sounded off about it re: dates. Whoever put that together (creepy lookin' kid on the front page but only a sillouhette of the founder?) did it in a rush it seems.

The depiction of the Apollo Bar creation talks about a recipe for MILK CHOCOLATE. Not DARK chocolate.

As well as the whole story is kinda half-assed stupid. Son of a son of a son. Yeah, my friend knew this guy who's sister's babysitter was Mittlewerk's cousin. Right.

HANSOLOW---

Yeah. From what I could gather, Jeff "Doc" Jensen seems to have been on vacation from EW. Looking at the article publication dates, that is. That's what I'm thinking the "traveling" might have meant. Like, "Once that bah-stahd gets back from his vay-cay then he'll slap it up on the door of his building."

But I could be wrong about that. Someone can check the EW site if they're equally bored as I.

My word verification was "YENTII." Almost the abominable snowman.

Hey, 12 oz mouse,

:P

This intellectual statement is brought to you by the rule that I can be snarky about my boredom. Not someone else. Plus I was being slightly sarcastic. I'm surrounded by boxes to unpack and I'm enjoying speculating about this. So I reiterate:

:P

Where's the love?

Let me know if you think of any questions I should ask? Hopefully it will be resolved first thing tomorrow anyway, but just in case.

Belly...if you think, based on your communications with him, it would be inappropriate for me to talk to Jeff Jensen directly, I won't do so tomorrow. I definitely don't want to cross the line, and you are probably right that he doesn't know any more than what he's telling us anyway. He's probably reading this blog anyway so any questions we have will likely be answered in good time. I'm just trying to help any way I can.

TheUnrealCity and Slappy.....I'm in Knoxville, what is the Cooper Young Festival? I looked it up and it seemed like an educational gathering for kids. Do you think that anyone there will know what Lost or the TLE is besides you two (or we three, if I make it there)? Apollo schedule says they will be there on the 15th and 16th. I'd hate to drive all that way on the wrong day, if they will really only be there one day (pertaining to what was said about the 15th being a set-up day). Not sure what to do.

BTW, ditto about the X-rated Sublymonal-Myspace music, cheez-looeez!

I don't really want Jensen's head on a pike. A platter would be fine.

Seriously though, it's all good over-reactionary fun.

And LISA, I think you're the PERFECT person to go and talk to him. If ANYTHING, just meeting him will be good enough and pretty cool. We in the US need more real-life encounters and why not make that happen for ourselves!?!

In-game questions: What did his e-mail mean? Where was it displayed? Did he come up with the display method? What's his opinion on the video? IS IT REALLY HIM ON HE.COM???

Out-game questions:Thank him for the attention paid to TLE and TLEC.com. And what kind of stupid clue was "exposed to the light of day?" And what pisses HIM off about TLE? Does he not like the glyphs? Does he LIKE the glyphs?

But most importantly, just say hi and encourage him to reach out to TLE-ers more. He's welcome here.

re Apollo Bar:
Scoutpost pointed out some inconsistencies above. Another thing:
How did David Benson's mom source Benson chocolate bars during the late 1950s to send to her son and his mates at the front? She was not sent them from Scandinavia I guess, but bought them ("they were expensive, she was poor...").
Hmmm

Homer: Well I need something for my son's birthday.
Shopkeep: Ah, perhaps this will please the gentleman (points to a talking Krusty the Clown doll). Take this object, but beware - it carries a terrible curse.
Homer: Oh, that's bad.
Shopkeep: But it comes with a free frogurt.
Homer: That's good.
Shopkeep: The frogurt is also cursed.
Homer: That's bad.
Shopkeep: But you get your choice of topping.
Homer: That's good.

Bigakaz1.... I agree. Now the barcodes become hiddened with graphics as the page loads. I even tried going to some site to see how to read the barcodes and found out that they should be either 7, 11, or 12 numbers long. Something doesn't seem right with the code on the bar being 6 digits. I also downloaded a little program that makes barcodes and to me ... the lines do not agree with the numbers below.

anybody check the apollo site lately?
1. many of the graphics are different (the hot air baloon, the birthday cake, the chocolate swirl)
2. If you go to one of the links, say "The Man", and then link to the word Apollo in the upper right, you return to the main screen, but with a UK distribution button instead of a US one - but when I click it it freezes up the site.
Something weird going on there. I know there must be a clue somewhere in the graphics but I dont know what it is.
