The Lost Experience Podcast Episode 11

"Rough Re-entry" is the sub-title of this podcast. After missing a week and only having glyphs to work with, we had a tad bit of writer's block when planning this podcast. William and I fought about whether or not to post this recording...it's definitely not our best work...maybe even a little embarrassing. Regardless of quality, we wanted to give you something. We promise next week's will be way better.

[I don't know if any has posted this but figuring out frame order]

clips on HE.com are displayed from the LAST FRAME of the clip.
therefore this makes it easier to figure out the order...

eg if you see a picture of the island like in
3zgt and 1ey8azczna2
you soon realize that since both pictures have last shots of island,...
but when you play them
you see that 3zgt starts with another shot then goes to the island
while 1ey8azczna2 is the island the whole time...
so therefore 3zgt MUST occur first...

using this trick should help sort the order a lot easier...

Hi all, I have been just a lurky-loo up to this point, but now I'm ticked off. I spent considerable time yesterday putting all my fragments in order, and I saved it about five times just to be safe. Today when I logged on to plug in this morning's installment, all but eight of my fragments were back up in the holding area and I have to start all over again. Argggg! Does anyone have any suggestions on how to best save their configuration besides just using "save"? BTW, thanks mucho to everyone here for all the effort put into sharing and communicating together, and for the awesome laughs as well. I also happened to think a few days ago about what will happen to this "community" when all of the game is said and done. I just retired from "Big-Blue" (finally!)this Spring, and following the game and this TLEC and blog have been a great way to spend my first summer in retirement. Ciao, and thanks in advance for any help on my "save" problem.

in dealing with how slow this point of the game has become(waiting for two three clips that give us maybe a one minute section) i thought of a question. . .

is anyone looking into meaning for the glyphs or somekind of anagraming for the clip code names? Maybe when the clips fall together better there will be a message in the code names. . . This is something maybe for Dwights and e few Micheals

capcom-I share your frustration. here is what I had to do to finally get my sequence to save. Warning it is a process, but I haven't lost a sequence in 3 days now!
1. I put all of my clips in order.
2. I hit save and click my sequence link.
3. I go to view the sequence and if it says anything other than the correct amount of clips/#released (today would be 27/28 as an example), I go back to sequence edit.
4. Back at the sequence screen I individually move each clip from it's sequence slot to storage and back again, then re-save, and re-check until the #sequenced/# of clips is correct.
I DO NOT close HE.com until the number is right.
It is a pian but it has actually worked!

capcom,

I've been keeping a separate list of the order I think the frags go in so in case mine get jumbled by HE.com I don't have to go back and figure out where each one goes. With the glitchiness of that site, it's better not to rely solely on it . Some people are also downloading the clips to their hard drive and arranging them themselves in a playlist.

8/04/2006 10:51:00 AM
Blogger capcom said...

Copy that ange, thanks! I will try out that system for saving. It's still far fewer steps than sorting the entire sequence all over again! :-p

Twinkle, et al.,

I'm reposting this from late last night EST (Eastern daylight Saving time ;-) as I also made a "buzzed" mistake in giving credit to my Google Earth coordinate & tools buddy, Oodles for ThinBlue utilizing a theory that coincided with some of my ramblings...

I was trying to not be spoiler-ish, but it only makes things more confusing, so if I must talk like this I prefer to warn....

******spoiler*****************

The question is whether time runs at the same pace on the island as in the real world, but some of us have theorized that these 60 days or so on the island happened during our two seasons / years (won't even get into the weirdness of considering that ABC knows exactly what is happening on the island in our 2006 yet is just letting events unfold to profit from a TV series about it...)

So the fact that Desmond could read the date of 9/22/04 on the hatch log sheet / incident log, then Desmond would recognize whether or not he's been on the island long enough for 9/22/04 to have happened, which he has. Time is normal on the island and what we are watching (real or not) is taking place 2 years before the ARG does.

Taking some of the facts that when the plane goes down it about 8 hours after take off (2:55pm Sydney local) would be the middle of the night in the South Pacific (around or 1:55 am in Fiji on 9/23 or around 11:55pm Sydney local time on 9/22) when the plane went down. Or it IS daylight and 9/22 on the opposite side of the world. Now, I'd like to believe that since this is a TV show about an event that happened within the reality of our ARG that LOST took poetic license and there are a number of possibilities as to where the island may be, but they are shooting the show in Hawaii ;-) and the log showed 9/22 as the time of the incident.

Oodles and myself have been playing with some theories as to the island's actual location and have gone the gambit on possibilities that the island is not only cloaked from the real world, but there may be a portal that takes you somewhere else on the planet, in the planet, even in some sort of self-existing tesseract (i.e. Desmond's remark about them being in a snow globe could just be that he thought he was going in a straight line but ending up sailing in a circle) OR also other portals or vortices that can bring things from other parts of the world to this phased out of synch island, etc. (i.e. African drug runner's plane)

Anyway, that is when ThinBlue mentioned that the reason no one heard a plane when the food drop happened is because the plane may have made the drop through this portal, wormhole, tesseract, etc. so it could pass through onto the island without anyone hearing how it got there...

Thank you Oodles for your feedback late last night already two comment blogs away(!!):

"The plane was in the air for about 8 hours. If it left on time it crashed about 23.00 Sydney time. I would put the island between Fiji and Tahiti in the northern Cook Islands area which is at Sydney time +4 hours. So then the plane would have crashed at about 3 a.m local time. Leaving the "it should have been dark"-problem out of the equation, there are a number of things that could account for the one-hour difference to the print-out (4.16 a.m.):
- The plane's take-off was delayed by one hour.
- The island is further east.
- The computers run on external time: The timezones and dateline are pretty messy in that part of the world (see http://www.worldtimezone.com/time-oceania24.php) and have repeatedly been revised in the late 20th century. The island that connects with 'our' island via the Pala Ferry and possibly the underwater cable Sayid discovered could well be in a different timezone.

As to "it should have been dark"-problem. Perhaps the producers had not contemplated that the show's every scene and every word spoken would be analysed to bits two years on.
It has been theorized that the island is not in the South Pacific but off the East coast of Africa (where it would have been afternoon at the time of the crash) but I wouldn't think that an airline pilot and two hardy sailors wouldn't know which part of the world they are in. Also, the Banyan tree is a native southeast Asia and overall the vegetation on 'our' island is humid tropical, not dry tropical as it is in the likely contender, the Cape Verde Islands region, where only interior valleys support lush vegetation whereas coasts and mountains are rather bare.

Anyway, methinks that the ARG is two years into the future from the show."

Oodles, the east coast of Africa, aye (I haven't viewed your opposite point on the planet coordinates),. All your points also allow that even in the ARG and Hanso's "reality", LOST is a TV show and with artistic license it was definitely more worthwhile to film all that awesome stuff in daylight, but, if TWM is preparing these scientists to go to their LOST island (in the future -- no need to play with whether they could run into our losties and end up on the show -- oy vay, I had to bring it up, LMAO. Ignore that possibility for now folks), would they be meeting in Sri Lanka to go to another part of the world... where is their ideal location that Dharma went to before which most likely is OUR Lost island?

All I was doing was trying to promote a discussion about these things or even end people trying to associate the outside world incidents and the ARG's being able to merge in Season 3. If time is running normally on the island then the ARG is taking place up to 2 years in the future.

Anyone else still trying to figure out how a Nigerian plane using a map including the Sahara desert, ended up on an island in the South Pacific or ANY thoughts on the mass above?

OK - i looked through this weeks issue (Aug. 11th) and there wasnt't any glyphs. If it was in the Aug. 4th issue - it would have been found already - that one's been on newsstands for a week.

Don't ask me why magazines are dated a week later than the day they are released. It's a mystery to me, too.

8/04/2006 11:36:00 AM
Blogger Ange said...

I know I for one have become complacent Thrasher. I have looked at the usual suspects for glyphs this morning , but the pattern seems to be one easy one (on an in-game site like DJ Dan or GaryTroup), then one in a randomly weird place like a foreign blog or in an actual location that is nowhere near where I am at the moment. I figure since the DJ Dan one is out there then the next one will be the obscure one that we will need a further clue to get. My theory may be wrong, but it seems like that is how it is going so far.

Marcus/Oodles/Thinblue: I have been "lurking" over your lively and informative discussions about the crash, time and location problems. Everything is so well-laid out and presented elogently. Great points are made and backed up. The 2004/2006 issues has always bothered me. It's an easy out for TPTB to just say time is not what it seems on the island. Belly (sometimes I refer to you as bOd, but I going to use the 1st part of everyone's name so if they do go back and check, they'll know that I was commenting to them), I started thinking that people were passing my comments by for some reason as I could spend a whole day without anyone acknowledging anything I'd typed. As to your mention of my courtesy... I believe it's kind of an extension of who I am. As I don't have an online persona that differs from mine in real life (you should read my insanely accurate dating profile ;-)

I am lacking in one area in particular, as others have been interested in theories, thoughts & posts, et al., that I've typed. There have been queries as to if I was collecting or blogging it them and my research somewhere, but until now I've only had short stints of free time (I've probably mentioned some long shoot days, yes, I am an actor, but have also work behind the scenes. BTW, I don't think I ever responded to a past query of yours - it was you, right? - my icon is not me on the set of Regis & Kelly, LMAOwms Just a photo taken with a camera phone a few stories above a B'way theatre and right "in the heart of it" where I live).

You have been a stellar contributor to TLE and I've done more than scanned your separate blogs as well as your posts here, so thank you for your thoughtful & worthwhile participation in this community of great TeamPlay. I've been on the net for a long time and tried chat rooms (in the beginning and the nutters scared me off so I've never been back ;-), various communities & even been a long-time participant in internet dating (sshh- yeah, I'm still horribly single and looking for love on the internet because the only single people I meet in real life are Dancer/Actress/Model/Singers, DAMSels, uhg! Of course those somewhat true stereotype are probably why I'm having a hard time finding a serious date as I'm a professional actor - my ONLY job). This is my first time involved in something like this (blog or ARG-wise); although, I have a background in medicine, research, the sciences, and had quite a healthy / advanced education before I chucked it all to pursue the life's blood of my split-brained existence, performance.

My life is full of "theories or otherwise" and I seem to do a lot of consulting & problem solving for many who cross my path (taxes, career counseling, help with homework / term papers, personal psychology & life issues), but I really appreciate and want to thank you for your consideration, etc., and would like to continue this in any way I can as part of this "community".

Marcus: some great thoughts there on the time 2004/2006 stuff... i want ot think that time on the show/ARG is pretty much normal, and that this can really go sci fi and i dont thinkt hats where TPTB want to go...

that said where there is smoke there is fire and the time difference thing seems to be popular everywhere... if time is different i think its somehting very subtle...

i like your ideas, ill have to re-read it.

also you said you dont have alot of times, but (like me) have a ton of theories. if you dont have time for a blog maybe you can post your thoughts on our LGT message board. this way you can have it all in one place ona board that is there to discuss theories...

i created a new thread for "time on the island"

you can post in any of them... i created a new thread for "island time threories" I already copied your post from above. you can just post and add to it whenever you want, and since it is its own theory it wont get lost in a bunch of comments:

Here is the link to that thread i started: Island time theory

here you go joe:

Now this is the story all about how
My life got flipped, turned upside down
And Id like to take a minute just sit right there
Ill tell you how I became the prince of a town called bel-air

In west philadelfia born and raised
On the playground where I spent most of my days
Chilling out, maxing, relaxing all cool
And all shooting some b-ball outside of the school
When a couple of guys said were up in no good
Started making trouble in my neighbourhood
I got in one little fight and my mom got scared
And said youre moving with your aunte and uncle in bel-air

(only the first three episodes of season one)

I begged and pleaded with her the other day
But she packed my suitcase and sent me on my way
She gave me a kissin and she gave me my ticket
I put my walkman on and said I might aswell kick it

First class, yo this is bad,
Drinking orange juice out of a champagne glass
Is this what the people of bel-air livin like,
Hmm this might be alright!

I whistled for a cab and when it came near the
Licensplate said fresh and had a dice in the mirror
If anything I could say that this cab was rare
But I thought now forget it, yo home to bel-air

I pulled up to a house about seven or eight
And I yelled to the cabby yo, home smell you later
Looked at my kingdom I was finally there
To settle my throne as the prince of bel-air

you can watch it here Fresh prince theme

Just a quick pop before I get out of here...I was reading the Grand Theory and my compliments, it is really well done. I commented over there, but afterwards I had a wacky thought I wanted to run past the smart people here. What if, as part of the original experiments, THF/DHARMA came up with some kind of method to distinguish between good people and bad people for surviving the nuculear fall out. And it turns out the Mittelwerk doesn't make the cut? Now TWM is mad that he's going to be annihilated like everyone else, so he's trying to create his own little island to be kept safe during the nuclear ho-down...

I wrote my code sequence down this time, but I've had it with the HE site, I can't get it to work for me anymore and I barely have the patience to sort all 70 of these things as it is, let alone when the site is acting buggy and fighting me. Considering the lack of activity it was actually a pretty good podcast. I was particularly impressed with the Fresh Prince bit. That was sheer class. It's funny what people can get up to when trying to fill up the space.

Plus I think you dealt with the disapointment over Act 3 pretty diplomatically. I know a few people in the chat room that have had much harsher things to say about it.

TVM, DHARMA, island stuff:
I think it's entirely possible that TVM and Alvar Hanso aren't on the same side of things. Something happened that caused Alvar to disappear. TVM took over but may not have been let in on all the secrets Hanso had. I hope that we'll get to see some kind of drama happen between them.

Hi again,
The only thing resembling a hint I've seen + heard today is OtherGirl going on about watching Dr. Who (a VERY popular UK Sci-fi series - I've never seen it though) PLUS an e-mail by a guy called Daniel to the admins in todays podcast who said he reckoned OtherGirl might sound like Billie Piper from Dr. Who (leaving the podcasters a bit at a loss it seemed).
That cannot possibly be a coincidence.
BTW Speaker also mentioned Billie Piper back in June for some reason.
The only bit of news today on the Channel 4 site that mentions Billie Piper is http://www.channel4.com/news/content/news-storypage.jsp?id=25756020
Smack in the middle of it is an ad for a music event: XBOX LOST & SOUND
If you click on the ad you get to a flashy flash site. Go to the "Tour caravans" and under 'gaming caravan' it says "Take in the unique decor & discover some hidden treats". Right underneath are links for downloading wallpaper (taking in decor?). I downloaded both hoping to find a glyph inside but no.
The xbox lost & sound caravans are visiting Rip Curl Boardmasters in Newquay from 31st July-6th August, so maybe there is a real-life glyph in the gaming caravan? Anyone in Newquay UK?

Blogger Fenris said...

I don't even know where Newquay is and I'm in the UK. Lol.

I'm shocked people don't know of Doctor Who. To be honest this last season was disapointing, largely because they ruined the Cybermen. Plus they laid on the romantic involvment between the doc and his assistant a bit too heavily. But regardless, it's worth a watch. The first of the new versions seasons (save for the finale) was excellent.

Anyway, I digress. I'll keep my eye out for Doctor Who related stuff this weekend. Even though it's obvious tOG will be giving out links to real life clues, I still find it hard to pay attention to her. I don't know why. I think maybe it was because she kept going on about Big Brother (for me, "Big Brother" is ironically what is in my personal "Room 101", if you catch my drift). I am betting she isn't Billie Piper, so either it is a clue or just some wierd co-incidence.

I've always felt it was wrong to call Oranguatangs monkeys, they may take offense. Lol. But anyway, My Monkey is called "Spider". How confusing is that?

Nothing on the German Lost forum... looked around most their site too and didn't see anything that might point to glyphs. They haven't even started on Season 2 yet, though, so it seems they wouldn't be much involved in the ARG, not even knowing what's down the hatch, let alone who THF is (though they do have a THF commercial with a German voiceover on the site). So maybe we can narrow down the countries we look at based on who's into the 2nd season...?

That's freaky about Billie Piper. However, I kinda suspect there is nothing in this, at least not directly to do with Billie herself. Just because Doctor Who is *VERY* BBC, and I can't see Channel Four doing any kind of link up likely to publicise a rival channel. Of course Billie has left Doctor Who now, but as far as I'm aware she's not due to start doing anything on C4. It's a bit random. There could be something going on at a music event though, that would be very C4. But getting anyone to there may not be so easy.

Oodles - you don't know Dr. Who..? I can't speak for ALL of america Fenris, but Dr. Who aired on the Sci-Fi channel where all of us geeks watch Stargate(s) & BattleStar Galactica and it got a good rating; otherwise the 1st season is completely available on DVD. I enjoyed it immensely more than I thought it would including the infinitely grinning Christopher Eccleston.

GreenFalcon- freaky, yes, but that IS Billie's B'date. I remember seeing one of her pop videos and thought she was completely my type (those who've noticed my earlier mention of DAMSels know otherwise), but at the age of 19, she married 35 y.o. popular TV & radio geek Chris Evan and I moved on :-( but the show and she won many awards in Britain and I think all of you should go out to Blockbuster or put it on your NetFlix list NOW.

Fenris, i can make a few stabs at your Room 101 as I saw the 1st season of Big Brother when I was in the U.K. (Dina scares me for some reason) and we're in the midst of Big Brother All Stars right now where favorites from the past 6 seasons are competing for BB7. Give me a laugh and explain your room 101 as well as what else is on the list or I'll send you twin monkeys named Butt & Arse ;-)

Hey, you guys know I was just being (somewhat) funny, right?

As to the original announcement back in April, I believe, ABC, Channel 4 (UK) & Seven (Aus) about TLE incorporating over 20 broadcasters from 5 continents... Although the "Lost Experience" is primarily internet-based, participants should not assume that clues will be limited to the online world. Any and every platform has the potential to contain hidden secrets of the mystery. Given the different broadcast windows around the world, this challenge is specifically designed in a manner that is not dependent on information specific to either Season One or Season Two, allowing for the participation of those who have not yet seen either season of "Lost."

Do you guys REALLY think that they're using non-english websites to release clues? I wouldn't put it beyond them and I don't know exactly what they meant by 20 broadcasters from 5 continents (broadcasters could include the characters in the game like Speaker, DJDan, Rachel, UK's other girl or anyone who distributes audio, video, text,, et al., to a number of recipients through the mass media...

They never announced any collaboration outside these three channels, but that doesn't mean to exclude it... so if you have the time, happy searching!!

Hey smokey,

Thanks, but still no mention as the actual time in Pacific Summer Time...

LIVE! LIVE! LIVE! ConspiraSpies! Friday, the night of August 11th (PST - USA). For all you Brits and Aussies, that's... Saturday, August 12th? Is that right? Tonya, where's my international time conversion chart?

More details to come! Til then, keep your voices yammering, your hearts beating for the truth, and your EYES ON THE MAN! ---with a link to http://www.djdan.am/danspot.html ---

I took 8 years of Spanish so I have a fairly decent command of the language. I checked the Lost Spain site which is interetstingly aired on a FOX channel and found nothing. I also checked the Chile/ Mexico/ Argentina and found nothing of much use there although it does appear that they are on Two For the Road, which is further along then lostpedia indicates. I will keep and eye them to see if there are any updates, but I doubt it.

AXN seems to be the channel that airs lost in many countries around the world. It was on one of its affiliates websites that the "catseye" code was found so I will look into that a bit more.

Before I sign off...
Marcus, looks like I'm missing out on a good series but Dr. Who simply hasn't aired in Ireland yet, or at least not on the four channels we get out here.

Fenris, it's interesting that you say a music event ('hosting' a glyph) would be very C4. After all, it's called Lost & Sound and the site talks about a 'hidden treat' in the gaming caravan.
That must be it.
I think Newquay is in Cornwall?

Blogger Marcus_Isn't_Lost ;-) said...

Anyone out there... can you confirm that the "catseye" code was found after the posting on some website or even the one you claim was on an asian website?

That would make it easier to believe that it may be outside the websites we tend to look... you know you can find a code on a foreign language website, but unless you know when it was posted (taking the time zone into account) and approximately when it was entered in HE.com, then I'm more likely to believe that it was gotten through some form of hack. Can anyone prove the code was on a website BEFORE it was entered on HE.com?

Blogger washu2010 said...

I can't prove that it was put up before the code was entered but the website does provide the entire glyph- image and all. I have yet to find any other place where the image is located.

Oodles, my man...

Which Ireland, ROI, as opposed to the UK bit? And no possibility to rent it or something... sorry, in some ways (taking into account the bygone era) the new Dr. Who is much better than the old series, but wouldn't be as good as it is without that one having come before. Kind of like the new BattleStar Galactica except that BG is REALLY awesome!!!

G'nite

Marcus,
The 'catseye' glyph was released on the 24th, found on the 25th, and finally 'delivered' to us by Ninja on the 26th.
The AXN East Asia site was last updated on the 24th so I guess that shows the glyph was out there on the web alright but on a site that none of us knew about. Catseye probably just doesn't frequent the US/GB/AUS blocks.

ps
yep ROI (but I watch too much telly as it is... it'll come along one day)

Thanks for giving me a kick, Washu- I'm forever the Devil's advocate and The Devil Wears Prada, too LOL (I'm just an advocate).

Oh, so an image... never heard about the image!! Makes one think... I'd heard catseye was a hack and the korean one just listed the code when I looked before.

When they'd come up previously, I must've checked HansoExposedFragments.com and not MattThePales list as when I checked the other day he hadn't updated it yet, so
I must not have gone back.

Wow, AXN is an english language website for Hong Kong & more, kewl, I guess... BUT on the Korean site with all those question marks, I looked the other day... the fragment picture wasn't up, then, only the code. Guess I'm going to have a HARD time believing that one as I had checked it out, hmmm?!!? Thanks though.

The only thing I found weird about the glyph on the Korean site was that the image didn't link to HE.com like the rest of them have so far.

8/04/2006 09:45:00 PM
Blogger Ange said...

marcus- Did you see on TLEC clues main page where they had the link to the Korean glyph with a picture under clue #91?

nitesea- Not all of the glyphs we have been given have linked to HE.com...3 that did not are:
-The first Doc Jensen one on EW
-The most recent one on Channel 4 linked through Rachel Blake and The Hansos
-The one on garytroup.net
It is very likely that the Korean glyph was legit even if it didn't link.
My question, why wouldn't there be glyphs on non-english web sites?

8/04/2006 10:20:00 PM
Blogger Marcus_Isn't_Lost ;-) said...

Ange- I was only supposing that there were the BIG THREE english speaking countries (ok, all of that is not entirely true - Oz has a small population ;-), but there was no mention of complicity from other countries and yet if you look above at my quote from the ABC press release:

20 broadcasters on 5 continents... so then I guess, (quoting Debbie Gibson, USA, 1990) Anything Is Possible

And yes there are now 28 credits on the leaderboard (counting justwillow x2)

Hi guys. I'm a long time lurker that finally has something to contribute.
I was just reading my wife's People magazine. I noticed an ad/article written by speaker. I saw nothing "glyph" related in his writing. I then noticed the page opposite speaker's article was a Sprite ad for SUBLYMONAL. Ther was a picture of a sprite can with its partial reflection below. In the reflection was a small word NANITE. I tried it in sublymonal's website with no result. I then tried it in HE. It worked. Again, the new code is NANITE.
