Lost Experience Podcast Episode 13

RyanDrumz joins David as the first ever "phone in" co-host. He did a great job discussing with David their "Final Four" important questions of The Lost Experience:

1) How does Apollo Candy fit into the overall plot of TLE...What will happen when we get enough "Golden Tickets"? Will we get the answer to "Where is Alvar" and if so, how?

2) We've been promised the "meaning of the numbers", what do we speculate that will be?

3) If there was to be one big twist in the plot what would it be?

4) What will be the final fate of Rachel Blake?

Admin: Sorry you had technical difficulties this week. Thanks for pulling it off anyway.

2Costa: But did you catch the cliffhanger with the keeper being put in a present for their son. I don't think they ever fully answered that issue. I wish stories from these universes could have gone on and on. But Star Gate and Babylon 5 had a good run. Firely/Serenity was just as good, maybe better in some ways, and it just got cut down! A million $ an episode will do that to you.

Love the Wal*Mart!

Why Wal*mart though...I orginally thought this stage would play out by visiting local Jeep dealers or Verizon Stores for "clues" that we would all have to share.

I'm dissapointed that every bar doesn't have a code - like the Coke/Pepsi under-the-cap contests. You don't even need to actually have a bar to post your picture... just a photoshop version is fine...

OK...off to listen to the podcast...

I've been thinking about that...I would love to keep this community going. This Experience is the first place I've actually engaged in discussions with people online! I used to always check the Numbers Forum during the season but it was always so confusing for me. I like the way the comments work. It would pose a problem for international readers who aren't on the same schedule. I also don't know what I would post...just a synopsis of the episode and then let people have discussions in the comments? What do you guys think?

tole212: Go, Croatians! She's an amazing actress that's for sure.

So do the UK and AUS have their seasons end this summer and then have a long dry boring period until their season starts up again? At least in the US we got to have the Experience while waiting for season 3, but they won't have that. Man.

Another idea would be to do character spotlights. Well, since each episode usually centers around a character that might be the same as a summary of the episode. Except that reviewing the information we have about a character can really help in interpreting an episode about them. I'm constantly forgetting tidbits.

I like those ideas. I just know that once the season starts, "water cooler discussion" will be unavoidable and Americans will gravitate towards those discussions. Can international viewers not get the iTunes versions or the ABC.com versions of new episodes? That would be one way for us all to track together.

David, I am just now listening to the new podcast with Ryan. Keep up the good work, don't burn out, and the "name callers" are just jealous.

Remember, Anna Lucia questioned Sawyers sexuality several episodes ago as the tail section crew were traveling to return Jin, Michael and Sawyer back to the losties of the mid section. So, acusations are just weak minded ppl attempting to intimidate. I wish more hetro men would feel secure in their masculinity to tell other men , "I Love You".

David and Jonathan of OT fame were manly men, and expressed their love to each other. I tell my adult sons I love them, and hug them frequently. Life is short.....TELL the ones we love, that we love them...one day it will be to late.

Be of good cheer...stay the course, and God Bless!!!

1) So the cool mysteries of Acts 1 and 2 were probably written by TPTB. Acts 3 and 4 seem to be turned over to marketers. We'll get some big reveals, but we've had so long to speculate on them they won't be total surprises anymore. I think that we're getting back to the part of the game where TPTB are back in charge and more of their brilliant plot planning will show forth. So I agree with the podcast, that the reveal for WIA.com will be big, and I hope the we get the answer to WIA.

All that said, I'm still confused about why a Hanso subsidiary seems to be helping the efforts of Rachel Blake? Is THF falling apart from within?

Jayne! The man they call Jayne!
Oh he robbed from the rich and he gave to the poor
Stood up to the man and he gave them what for
Our love for him ain't hard to explain
The hero of CANTON, the man they Call Jayne

Our Jayne saw the mudders backs breakin'
He saw the mudders lament
And he saw the magistrate takin'
every dollar and leavin' five cents

So he said " you can't do that to my people"
Said "You can't crush them under your heel"
So Jayne strapped on his hat and in five seconds flat
Stole everything boss Higgins had to steal

Mow here is what seperates heroes from common folk like you and I
The man they call Jayne, he turned round his plane and let the money hit the sky
He dropped onto our houses
He dropped it into our yards
The man they call Jayne, he stole away our pain
And headed out for the starrrrrrrrrsssssss

SO do I officially get my nerd stripes now... lol

twinkle, I have no clue why they think it's believable that Rachel would be involved in the candy production, let alone that it's supposed to be undercover but there we are putting are pics up for the evil doers to see. At this point it's mindless fun, and eventually we'll see the original orientation vid and maybe how/why Hanso aged so much from that till the UN speech. I think for them to throw out there that Rachel is Alvar's kid is why they had to make him not so ancient. My emails to Dj Dan might have had something to do with that, lol, I told him Rachels mom liked wrinkly ol man arse, all I could think of was the Bunny chicks and Hefner, ewwww.

1. How does Apollo Candy fit into the plot? What will happen when we get enough Golden Tickets? Will we get the answer to "Where is Alvar" and if so, how?

re the "find out more at the giveaways"... they've only been giving the choc, so unless there was supposed to be something else happening but hasn't, it seems all we are supposed to get from it is the "whereisalvar.com" site. I think Apollo is involved simply as a means for Rachel to subvert THF (remove the bad things they put in it and put the website on it maybe?) to contact a bunch of people. I think when enough Golden Tickets, sorry... Golden Oracles have been posted on there we will get some form of communication from Alvar. I think this ties into the DJDan podcast and the message Malik... I think by now Rachel and Alvar have been in touch and I don't know if they have met in person or what... but I suspect we will get a video of Alvar that is recent, from within the last few weeks. But with any luck we won't have to piece this one together...

2. We've been promised the "meaning of the numbers". What do we speculate that will be?

I think they will be constants in the VE... but I won't be surprised if they are not :D

3. If there was to be one big twist in the plot what would it be?

something noone has thought of... or something people have dismissed as too outlandish :D I really hope it isn't something people have picked right from the start, but you never know.

4. What will be the final fate of Rachel Blake?

good question. I know most people think she is a relative of Alvar, especially after ComicCon, but maybe he simply played a key role in her life that brought her to where she is today. And once this game is said and done... why can't she be on the show in some completely unrelated role? We don't have to pretend any more... we don't have to suspend that disbelief... it's just like any other actor in another role... even those who play different roles on the same show :-P But... you know... I don't know that she will end up on the show other than as some minor flashback character as an in-joke for TLE players. But her fate... I wouldn't mind her being killed off, but it would have to be done really well... she takes one for Alvar who really is a good person that was over-shadowed by the evil Mittelwerk? I don't think we are going to get a happily ever after though.

Morning all

Wouldn't suprise me if the % counter was just going up based on time rather then bars found. But I've not been paying that close attention. Anyone been taking notes?

Anyway, my responses to the podcast questions:

1) I'm guessing, given the name of the site, the reveal must be something to do with Alvar Hanso. I don't think it will have anything to do with the chocolate bars themselves unless it's in relation to what was discussed in sign language (i.e. Mittelwerk tried to put his compound into the bars but got sussed, so it could be about whatever that compound was for (the "vaccine"?). Personally I think this stage is just a gimmick, so the reveal is just being held back until we finish the gimick off and getting the bars themselves (especially the oracle bars) will be meaningless. It's got to be the lead on from Malicks message on the live DJ Dan podcast. I.E. Rachel meeting Alvar.

2) I'm sticking with my theory that they are the only constants in the Valencetti equation. I'm sure a lot of people are still in the answers camp and while it may seem more glamerous I think the question camp is the one that makes more sense. Now the reason for them being the constants could actually be quite interesting. It would tie in with pushing the button every 108 minutes. Of course maybe the numbers are kind of the question and the answer. If you imagine there to be periods of time where the destiny of mankind can be effected and pushing the button keeps it on a non-destructive course, but only in such a way as winding back the countdown on the end of the world, it never stops the end of the world just postpones it. But maybe the sequence could only be activated when the countdown until the end of the world was some other combination of the numbers. Having said that, my brother pointed out that the button isn't pushed at precisely 108 minutes every time. So I don't know.

But anyway, saying the numbers are the answer or the question doesn't actually tell us what the numbers are or indeed their whole significance. I still say if they are nothing but the numbers that happened to be achieved in the calculation as a countdown from that point in time when Valencetti first did the equation, then there is nothign magical or indeed currently significant about the numbers. Similarly if they are constants in the equation then the big question is still WHY. Personally I'm not sure we will get the full significance of the numbers but my personal guess (i.e. what I think would be cool) is for it to be something to do with points of time in which you can influence the future (i.e. Destiny).

3) Well this difficult. Certainly the big theory that seems to be going around pretty much since the start (or at least by Act 2) is that Rachel is the bad guy and Mittelwerk is good. I don't think that's likely. But the obvious plot twist that Alvar is Rachels father is a bit too obvious to be the only plot twist for my liking. So my theory is that the plot twist will involve either the function of the origional Lost Island and it's current state, or to do with the Valencetti equation itself and the end of the world. Possibly both. I've always said that I felt that the equation was essentially a road map to either causing or preventing the end of the world and if that control can be had from the centre of the Dharma initiative then it could be that the power to end or save the world has mistakenly fallen into the hands of the Losties and that power is still active. We could be watching our favorite castaways stumbling around knowing that they could stumble their way to destroying the world. But anyway, I don't think there will be any big plot twists involving Rachel. She may have been related to people off the origional Island, she may be Alvars daughter or grandaughter and she may have been genetically altered as part of a hanso experiment. But none of that would be really suprising by now. Nor would the vaccine being nanites for that matter.

4) Well now this is about the only place they could give us an RB plot twist. I.E. Kill her off. Which will no doubt get some applauds and is therefore somethign I would find unlikely as it wouldn't be the reaction they would want (then agan maybe they weren't expecting the Rachating). I also think that the "Rachel Love interest" casting call was a Red Herring and so I don't expect her to go off into the sunset with our favorite IT guy/Assasin. What I suspect is that there will be some kind of continued fight or responsibility she will have to continue to fufil probably at some sacrifice to herself.

I guess a lot of my POVs are based around the assumption that I don't expect this to totally conclude. Sure they have to sort out the main things, find Alvar, probably take down Mittelwerk, but as Dave was just taking over from Alvar to begin with there is no reaosn the big Hanso/Widmore/Valencetti thing to be concluded especially with it's relevence to the series.

Alternative (non-serious) Theories:

1) Rachel has got a "fat" complex, and so is trying to get all the women involved in fighting Hanso to put on weight by the consumption of chocolate bars so she can feel better about her self. The chocolate is of course extra fattening.

2) It's periods of time between when Rachel eats a doughnut. See it couldn't be chocolate because then she'd eat her own product and ruin evil scheme no.1

3) Speaker is Rachel Blake - I mean you've seen how much weight he's put on right?

4) She decides she really does like chocolate, gorges herself on her own bars and get's stuck in a door.

Fenris: I agree that the Numbers or the power to end or save the world is finished on the island. Also I too expect some mysteries to be unresolved at the end of the ARG.

As for plot twists, we knew about hansoexposed before it became active. They did the whole Mel0Drama sign language thing to let us know about the URL on the chocolate bar when we already knew about that and had guessed what it was. We're finding glyphs before they're released. The Sri Lanka video isn't giving us much new so far except confirming that they're using an engineered virus for something. And even that we'd guessed at.

These pieces were pre-determined earlier in the ARG and aren't adapting for the stuff we've figured out. I have little confidence that anything they'll reveal will be shocking or something we haven't discussed. We're just too good.

I hope I'm wrong.

re numbers / Valenzetti
I have no idea how the numbers could relate to the Valenzetti equation but what has been bugging me is that TWM speaks of mathematical certainty in relation to the possibility of ending all famine, war, and poverty.
So Valenzetti predicts the end of the world with mathematical certainty, and Mittelwerk says he knows with mathematical certainty that the world can be saved.
A mathematical formula of that nature would contain a variety of constants and variables. Looks like Mittelwerk knows how to change the variables in mankind's favour? But that would make him the good guy, right? My theory: TWM is trying to do the right thing using the wrong means.

Link - Yeah, the UK distribution has at least avoided the mass releasing of bars to the oblivious public. Save for a few no doubt muched by Forbidden Planet employees and the odd mad guy that walks into shops saying random words and happens to say "Rachel Blake" (probably right before he announces "Cuckoo!" to the world), the bars have headed straight to the ARGonites (hehe). In the US they've been traded for ice creams, given away to people doing fantasy football draws and probably thrown into the streets to aid some gangsta's get away from overweight police officers (okay I made that one up). They probably should have stuck with the codeword plan universally, but too late for that now.

Oddles - That kinda fits in with what I theorized about the idea of effecting the variables in the equation to find a way to avoid the end of the world. Dave has the power to either stop, or create the end of the world and things are so hush hush my suspicion is those working for him think he's doing the former and he's actually doing the later (with a backup plan to save himself of course).

Twinkle - You are probably right. But we can always hope for some kind of "woah!" moment at least.

Ange - Once again, that unanswered questions thread rocks. They had something similar at the fuselage and even though I haven't posted there since the end of Season 1, I do go back and check it. That kind of thing is dead useful.

Right I'm off until much much later today. Have fun all. :)

So I just got back from the Times Square giveaway about an hour ago. I was up at 5:30 this morning to make it to the city in time to be one of the first to accost the Apollo distributors (talk about dedication).

I met up with Marcus around 7:10 and together we hit as many Apollo people as we could find. Dharmachick joined us not too long after and we had a nice leisurely walk around the city. I'd brought my mom along so we could spend some time together (and so she could snag me some bars too, of course) and between the both of us, we were able to get 26 bars ... yes, 26. The distributors were handing them out like ... well, like candy. After I take a much needed nap, I'll be signing up for the trade for anyone in need of a bar.

It was actually kind of fun wandering around the city tracking down candy bars!

Marcus and Oroku, good to see you again, it was rainy (again) but fun.

I got back just a little while ago, as I went down to Battery Park, too, to meet up with some friends there.

There were crowds, of course, for the marathon, and EVERYONE had bars.

It was kind of discouraging because there were wrappers and uneaten bars in garbage cans (and the streets, naughty litterbugs!)...

Here's a pic that I took of one: http://tinyurl.com/l7tyh

...and that was just ONE bin. :( I felt terrible when I saw that, knowing how many people don't have bars! Plus it is frustrating, because you just know that at least one of the Golden Oracles was in one of those bins.

The most frustrating thing is that I saw someone in Times Square who walked away with what I'm fairly sure was an oracle bar, but I didn't realize it until she was too far away in a crowd.

The problem is that there are a TON of these free handout type things in nyc. Most people are annoyed by them and pay them no attention, which I saw happening a lot in Times Square.

*****This may have spoilers for season 2, not sure where the other countries are*****

Hey, has anyone thought of the possibility that when TWM says that it is obvious that the Dharma initiative fail that he is in actuality speaking in response to the Hatch blowing up.

Maybe the Hatch being destroyed by Desmond with Kelvin's magic key was the very thing that set TWM master plan into effect. This is just my opinion but that is what I think happened. When the Hatch blew and the Island appeared on the plain of our dimension (or whatever it did to make it visible, EM pulse or something) That it only appeared for a little while. The guys in the Arctic made reference to the blip having been seen before. Most likely when Desmond failed to hit the button the last time, and crashed the plane. The Hanso foundation saw this blip as well since they actually knew where the island was located. This started the process of what to do if it fails (they knew it didn't since the island went invisible again) and start planning for it. Then the Island goes postal and reappears again when it blows, leading it to become visible again and actually shows evidence of going totally postal.. They then go into this frantic search for the island and start the process of doing what ever they can to fix the problem before its to late, and this process has been going on this entire time. All the projects they have been working on are almost ready for implementation but they need to figure out the last bits of info and do some stage three human testing to see if their work will really save the world in the end. All the while they are trying to figure out the equation because Alvar is the only one who knows what it is and he is in hiding, dead, or even cryogenically frozen.

They need they equation because as long as the Hatch was there it was doing it's thing and the world was safe, now it's gone and they not only need to make a new one, but they need to figure out the equation and train people in what to do with it. The Sri Lanken island is just another location that had been planned for the original Dharma experiment and the only one that THF could locate and start anew. The only problem is that this island has a population on it. The infected in this population could have any number of medical problems and they use this knowledge to go in and actually give them a virus that will wipe them all out, the genetic targets are the people on this new island who are most easily infected by this virus they will unleash on them and also the most likely to spread it on to others with in the social community.

With all the villagers dead they can swoop in and do there thing from the safety of their quarantined ship, build their new Hatch and continue to save the world in the way they happen to think is the best way to do it.

JMHO, but hey you never know.

And Happy Birthday Kristen.

Happy Sunday T-LECrs. I have some confusion about why TWM thinks that he can do a better job than the D.I. at the world-saving task, but perhaps that is only because we do not know the reason that the D.I. went all to heck eventually, as the situation on the island shows in the series. But still, I can't help thinking that (so far to our knowledge) TWM himself seems oblivious to the possiblility of the Chaos variable (didn't TWM see Jurasic Park?!) happening to his plan as well. He seems extrememly confident that if everyone follows his plan to the letter (assuming that everyone will), that nothing can go wrong with his version of the cure for the equation prediction. JMHO.

Interesting theories Dedjezter,
but I would quibble with the 'wipe-out the local population theory'. SE Asia is very densely populated and if the Sri Lankan island is where I think it is, (http://www.fallingrain.com/world/CE/31/Vallan.html) such a horrible deed would not go undetected.
I have also wondered whether the Dharma Initiative 'failed' in 2004. But looking at our Losties' island I would think that it failed earlier. The Others did not seem too bothered by the whole electromagnetic pulse thing. They were acting like someone who lives in a low-flying military zone - "just cover your ears, it'll be over shortly", like they are almost used to it or at least they must have known exactly what's going on and thus I guess they have experienced the blast before.

N.I.K., that's a good thought. I agree that TWMs immediacy in rushing the project now is, to him, crucial to making it happen and making it work once and for all. But TWM must also be ignoring good ol' Benjamin's saying that "haste makes waste". :-) For us viewers/gamers, the missing variable is still WHY the D.I. failed on the first try. I am dying to know the answer to that, and I hope that S-3 will reveal some of that to us.

***Possible season 2 spoilers***

Thanks for the link to the possible island. If the Others were used to the electomagnetic thing, it would explain Fenry's flippancy about it to Locke. I think they made it clear in the show that entering the numbers allowed the system to vent some of the electromagnetic charge to prevent some kind of event. But the big blast didn't seem that bad of a thing to prevent. My questions about the numbers and the Hatch are, what happened so that some point in time they had to start entering the numbers to leak energy slowly? Why did they choose the numbers related to the Valenzetti equation? Why didn't they set up a computer program to do it automatically?

I also want to chat with someone about the episode Dave. But I'm going to wait for interest and go ahead since it could be spoiler material for some. UK, AUS, and US have all seen the episode Dave as of last week, but I want to talk about it in light of the season finale. Anybody interested? Anybody think it's best to wait?

Finally, TVM is playing God, thinking he can choose what are acceptable casualties in order to end poverty, war, and famine. The ends do not justify the means, TVM. Maybe I'm starting to feel as disgusted by him as Rachel.

Hereandthere, I think you may have something there. The W.I.A. could very well be artifically slowed down by TPTB. The fulfilling of the percentage could definitely trigger the next step and if they have the timing planned out, it wouldn't be good for TPTB if we finished before they planned it out. :-( They certainly underestimated the players/fans then, if they thought that it would take us a long time to do a project as simple as retrieving an object and plugging it into the program. :-D

re WIH.com
Their numbers seem to indicate that 4000 = 100%.
They probably manufactured 40.000 hoping that one in ten would be entered on the website. The 24hr rule is there in order to even out the opportunity for each person to get their picture up, given that the distribution events will go on for a while yet. Also, they probably want as many pics of different individuals as possible, rather than 20 shots of one person.
I'd also hazard a guess that we will get some info from Rachel when there are 100 and 200 golden oracles respectively. Mind you TPTB might have to revise that figure given that there is a total of ONE US oracle bars entered so far.
And yes, I agree that Lost Ninja and Speaker seem to share our disappointment. I love Speaker, he has such a sweet sense of humour!

n.i.k.: Have you seen the rest of Season 2?

**Season 2 spoiler**

In the final podcast, TPTB revealed that we have seen the monster elsewhere in the show but didn't recognize him. Lostpedia says: "...according to the May 26 podcast, we have seen the "Monster" in season two without realising we were looking at it. Gregg Nations later claimed this sighting is to be situated somewhere after episode 'The 23rd Psalm'. "

We know that the monster can pull images out of people's minds like he did with Eko in 'The 23rd Psalm'. I submit that it can also project them. I believe many of the visions on the island including Dave to Hurley (and two others after 23rd Psalm) were the Monster. The visions seem to have special information not available to the persons' own conscious and seem orchestrated for a purpose.

Just found the theory suggested on Lostpedia too. I have the same questions you do too. It certainly acts sentient.

If Dave was a manifestation of the Monster, the question is what was it trying to do to Hurley? That makes Dave a much more interesting episode.

But Hurley was one of the ones the Others required Micheal to bring. Did the monster know that they would want him? How do the Others see Hurley? Why did they want Hurley only to do with him what they did?

So I just got an e-mail from rachel telling me that I am only allowed to upload one picture per 24 hours, which is funny, because I only tried uploading one picture. I know other people have gotten this, but I'm not sure if anyone responded to her. I'm sure it'll either bounce back or just end up in some mailbox, only to be deleted by an ABC intern, but still ...

Here's the exchange.
HEY THERE, AMBIENTBLU. MAYBE I WASN'T CLEAR ON THE RULES.

I'VE GOT AN UPLOAD LIMIT OF ONE PIC PER 24 HOURS. YOUR UPLOAD TO WWW.WHEREISALVAR.COM WAS DENIED.

SORRY, BUT YOU'LL HAVE TO TRY AGAIN TOMORROW.

- RACHEL

******
Actually, you were quite clear on the rules, but perhaps all this running around trying to expose the Hanso Corporation has impaired your ability to calculate simple math. This is the first and only time I have attempted to upload a picture to whereisalvar. Perhaps you should check the coding on your site and make sure it's all correct. Otherwise, you'll be hard pressed to get your supporters to post their pictures on the site and prove to Mittlewerk that you're serious.

Jack, I'm glad you mention Gary Troop. After all, we are still missing the last two parts of the book talk video. Been doing a bit of hunting around for those parts a while back but no joy. Perhaps that's what we'll get in exchange for the Golden Oracles, one video segment with every 100 Oracles? More likely they'll just get dropped in our lap...

Speaking of Gary Troop, it would be fun if in one of the final phases of TLE all of a sudden Rachel, and whomever is helping her, found an old copy of the V.E. book and reprinted it for sale in the "real world" like The Bad Twin. Well, she made chocolate bars, so it could happen. TPTB would have had to do some serious pow-wowing with mathemeticians to help with writing the book, if the book would focus on the equation. But if, as the G.T. info alluded, it's only about the speculation of the equation's existence, it wouldn't be that difficult. It would be nice to know some more details about the V.E. at this point in the game.

Swag indeed! :-) When all is done with this series/game, I think that it will go down as a defining pop culture page of this century. If only for the breakthrough blurring of fiction and fact with the series and the ARG. And yes, the book would have to be either seriously math heavy and alienate even myself, or it would be so vague and thin (in G.T.'s description of the "possibility" of the V.E.'s existence and the life of Enzo --since G.T. never actually saw the equation , right?) that it wouldn't hardly be worth the $24.99. :-)

hey NIK i think part of wht the AH fragment film is of higher quality than some of the other arg stuff is my theory that they made it as part of season 2, I remeber months ago in the middle of the us season 2 run some talk on the internet was of a couple flashback episodes, one where it was some 18th centurty girl and one showing them buld the hatchs and island myhtology(as in the clip from the fragment film). The producers probably decided to hold back on the other orientation and made it the payoff of the arg. I agree with someone theory that the film we are peicing together will be on the season 2 dvd. Like i mentioned a few days ago they do not want to alienate the 30 million plus veiwers to appease us 30 thousand tle players, so any thing we find out will be introduced to the oridnary lost veiwers

the producers are known to tweak things down to the very last second. Remeber when they edited out something in the one where locke's dad said " do you think that you are the first person I ever conned", that showed some link between Sawyer and Locke. I guess they did not want to hit us over the head with it. The same might have been the case with the fragment film where it might have told too much too soon, but from what I have heard season three is gonna do that too because we are gonna see where the others really call "home"

My theory on the WIA counter is that it only goes up. Apparently alo of pictures (one of mine included) are being rejected, after being posted. When the pic goes up, so does the counter, but when it gets taken down the counter remains the same.

Now oodles,
My point about the DI failing back then, is that, yes while the other hatches seem to have been permanently retired, the Hatch itself was still an active project that was actually doing something, when it went POP! Things really did go Bat Nutty.
Of course they have said that you didn't have to have watched the show to understand the ARG, but it gives some great insight into the game. As well, we have seen the game and show stories criss and cross a few times, so It could always happen. IMHO.

On a + note I wanted to mention how I think that the US distribution of the Apollo bars has gone horribly wrong, it has done a good thing as far as I am consirned. It is creating places for like minded fans of the show and the ARG to meet and see just what peoples ideas are. A ten minute conversation takes turns and twist that direct the flow of information in new directions. While These comments and other forums tend to keep things on track an organized. Sometimes the chaos of a conversation is the best thing for expanding theories.

You have a point there. The Swan was still active and the Staff was also still active until sometime after the arrival of the Losties. Perhaps the 'failure' happened in 2004 after all. Or perhaps the Dharma Initiative hasn't failed at all and TWM only made that up to get the scientists on board with his agenda?

A note on the pics for WIA.com:
Make sure they are .jpg files. Just read the instructions again and it looks like the system might only accept .jpg (so no .gif .bmp or Photoshop / PSP internal formats). Perhaps that's why so many get rejected?

Marcus: RE Research Blog - Thanks!

It's likely that DI was trying to prepare for the end through training while TVM is preparing through genetic engineering.

It's also possible that DI didn't fail at all but Alvar made it appear to TVM that it had. Or that Alvar kept parts of the island going for some other reason.

re: podcast questions. i think the big twist will be along the lines of rachel is the bad guy trying to find hanso to kill him. a bit predictable, so i'm hoping i'm wrong and tptb come up with something to blow us all away.

re: continuing the tlec blog past tle. i'm all for it. as most others have said, this is the best lost community i have found. you can throw ideas out there and they actually get discussed rationally instead of just attacked. as far as how to handle spoilers, i'd say make the front page post "Season 3, Episode 1 'Title of Episode'" and then those who wish to can discuss it in comments. the only problem, then would be the non-US people would finally see an episode, go to that episodes comments section, and there would be very few people in there to discuss with. a bummer, but i don't know how else to handle it.

Anyway, I ran some scans on the upc barcode on the apollo bars since a few people asked me to, and it translated to be the numbers underneath the barcode.18592. Nothing hidden or embedded as many people suspected.

Anyway, hope something happens today. see y'all again later this afternoon.
