Clue #126 - UK's Final Glyph Hunt & Other News

Over on Channel 4, Other Girl has a post titled "Listen Up!!" about a press release she recieved and verified to be accurate. According to her, two more fragments are to be tracked down in Manchester and London next week in an unprecedented real-world glyph hunt race of sorts. Check out Other Girl's Blog for all the details.

Thanks to Grafik & Grissy42 for emailing us the info.

In other news, we're eager about continuing to build on the chemistry that our commenters have found with one another on this blog. When The Lost Experience ends (who knows when) and Season 3 begins (on October 4), we're hoping to leave this blog as a "time capsule" of TLE and move our community discussions over to a new blog we're calling "The Lost Community". It's still "Under Construction" but head on over, check it out, and let us know what you think!

Maven, your post reminded me of some research earlier in the game when bellydancer and I were trying to figure out the meaning of the cables in parthenogenesis. I don't know how valid the space elevator is from a scientific perspective, but I found the whole idea of it intruiguing, particularly in terms of how it could be used to store things for use after a nuclear event.

Tresbien: I don't know how realistic that space elevator thing is. Seems pretty far-fetched to me. Lindehof said the cuntdown glyphs meant "underworld" on July 31st. And an underwater hatch has been alluded to.

Hey all, I'm in Harrisburg as we speak and just got done picking up my very own Apollo bars! Despite driving two hours through a hurricane, the pickup was flawless. I was able to find the ABC television station's booth and the two men inside were extremely polite and nice. Their booth was stacked with boxes FILLED with Apollo bars and they were even kind enough to give me some for my five kids who were hunkered down in the van with my husband while I treked downtown Harrisburg in search of the nanite chocolates!

and on the bottom is says FLINCH FASTER. SCREAM SOONER. FEEL MORE. WWW.RICHERDEEPERBRAODER.COM 2006 Verizon. All Rights Reserved.

Hey Glyph-mad compadres,

Reading over Other Girl's post, I think she means the last two UK GLYPHS. Meaning the last two that were given to her/UK distributors. Like Ninja saying that he would be releasing his last two sometime (he didn't say this). It's the last two for the country.

Let's not presume that the glyph search ends Thursday. Inevitably it won't and then we'd just be pissed off.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am both ecstatic and annoyed right now.

As I have FOR THE THIRD TIME found a Glyph first.

And for the SECOND TIME...

it doesn't have a damn code...just the Glyph.

Yes, that's right:

The RicherDeeperBroader ad (with the woman who has a film for her eye) has shown up again in EW (the September 8 issue, with the Fall TV Preview cover.)

Once again, there is a Glyph there--and it's a different Glyph than before. I've checked and it doesn't seem to match any other Glyph.

So I went to RDB.com. I scoured the damn place.

And either I just can't find it based on the clues from the ROT board (and yes, there are some) OR it's not up yet.

So yet again, I'm first to give y'all the news. :)

And yet again, I won't manage to get ON the HE Leaderboard. :(

The trials and tribulations of being a Super Hero, I tell you.

Here is a link to the ad:

Blogger Fenris said...

Oh no, it's my infamous write a really long post before bed.

Okay so here is a different take on my previous theory.

I said that the "numbers" were the constants in the equation and that the variables were factors involving politics, environment, genetics, etc. The variables were what they were trying to change. The outcome was something different and pressumably meant the end of the world was soon.

So I have another theory. What if there are sub-equations. Like for instance six sub sections of the equation taking into acount various factors. Each one of those can be taken down to individual numbers which in combination are fed into the next part of the equation that calculates the end of the world. So by throwing off any one of those sub sections you force a re-caculation of the equation and therefore stave off the end of the world (though by how much we don't know). Now you must have seen where I was going with this. Six numbers? Yes exactly. It seems a little far fetches to suggest you can simplify something as complex as human genetics into the number (for example) 23, but maybe that is just how it works for the part that is moved on to the final part of the equation.

So what we have is six stations looking to independantly change their individual part of the equation, their one number. That of course brings us back to the speculation about the various stations and what they do but this information would help with that.

But basically, this is why Hurley was right. The Numbers ARE bad and changing them is what the Hanso Foundation was all about. So I was right in that they are the question, but wrong in saying the were the constants, they are the variables in a way. They just aren't as variable as THF or the world in general would like.

That is my final theory on Dharma/Numbers.

However it doesn't explain why Mittelwerk is a *bad* person. I'm still on what I said before with that. He needs to either be 1) Pushing the equation the wrong way, 2) ignoring a less drastic way for his own benifit (somehow?), 3) Following this drastic action while the equation is not true (which only makes him bad if he knows it is untrue). Otherwise he is trying to save us all from dying while Rachel wants the world wiped out.

I would vote for 3 of those. Final Answer. I reckon Alvar Hanso realised the equation was flawed and that is why he axed the Dharma Initiative, however Mittelwerk being high up in the company and benifiting from all the secret funding Governments and Companies have been giving THF to solve this problem didn't want to loose all that and the lifestyle to which he became accustomed. So he usurped Alvar and tried to kill him and stifled the info about the equation including Troups book that debunked the myth about it (something he and his publisher kept quiet). That would just leave this current drastic action, which I would put down as a government sanctioned operation that is really a ploy to justify extending the end of the world. Obviously when the date came and went Mittelwerk and THF would look pretty bad and so he decided he needed to do something big (bigger then the token stuff he had done before). Changing the number just sets a new date of destruction. It doesn't stop the end of the world, and if it was say 100 years time he would still have a good reason to keep getting funding for the duration of his (possibly extended) lifetime.

So that's my final Mittelwerk/Alvar/THF/plot twist theory.

The only bit that doesn't confortably fit in (that I can recall anyway) is Mittlewerk curing Pete Thompsons cancer. But then just because the equation is wrong doesn't mean they didn't discover stuff on the island. So it doesn't have to be fundemental to it.

Okay that's it, going to bed, finally.

Mountain Girl- yes that makes a lot of sense. I definitely think that "good" vs. "bad" has some other connotation/qualifier than morality.

Here in Phoenix they just showed an Entertainment Weekly Lost Survival Guide on ABC. It was primarily a summary or primer of what lost is, and the major story lines from Season 1 and 2 for anybody who might want to start watching. Nevertheless, it was entertaining, and I so can't wait until Oct. 4th!

Ok so I'm reading through the Unanswered Questions thread on the message board. Lots of questions that we still don't know the answer to- esp. info we got from the hacking of THF.org. I had forgotten about a lot of that stuff. One in particular that I am wondering about is where do missing organs and parthenogenesis fit into this story? We've had a lot of discussion lately on the VE and viruses- and maybe missing organs fits into that, but what about the parthenogenesis? Anyone have any ideas?

Last time there was a Verizon ad like this, it led us to the RDB site where we found the "VACCINE" clue by clicking on the drive-in speaker. Looking at the new layout for the RDB site, you can see that they've added a "game" section that includes a picture of an X-BOX 360.

As of now, if you click on the power button on the X-BOX, it will take you back to the homepage. Why would RDB use that as a link back to the homepage when there is already a link back home right below it?"

Hey, Hansolow! I raced over to RDB to have a look at the X-Box, and I'm guessing that the "power button" link is SO CLOSE to the "Home" signpost that it's actually the same link. See how "Home" brightens as you hover your mouse over the X-box button?

If I'm wrong, let me know. I didn't see any other button...

Yawn...getting late...

Morning all: One more day closer to Oct. 4th! LOL

This U.S. candy distribution has not been every well thought out. By giving candy bars away to anyone at different venues doesn't make for a very accurate distribution to TLE players. We've all seen the photos of thrown away candy wrappers in trash cans! They should have done something similar to the UK Forbidden Planet method. Go into a store with a password and get a candy bar! TPTB have really angered some players by "making" them drive long distances to find chaos and confusion at different venues.

I don't even have a bar yet. I'm planning on going to the Sept. 16th Santa Monica/Acura venue. But I'm very unsure about it as it was on then off, then on again. And I can't get confirmation that Apollo candy will even be there at all. I hope to meet up with some fellow TLCErs (and that will be fun), but I hope the trip is fruitful candy-wise!

Boulder; I already tried erasing the cookies and the ROT page still acted the same. My computer must be funky.

Fenris; I agree with your separate variable theory (unless I am understanding it incorrectly). I think that we got a hint about that on the Hanso website (under MFI?) at the different areas on the map where separate values were plugged into each location or situation. Those would be examples of the changing figures that feed or complete the variables of the equation. Unless I misunderstood that part as well.

It's also interesting what you said about TWM being the individual responsible for the burying of the Troop VE book, I always assumed that it was Hanso. Troop may have indeed exposed or put forth some sort of flaws in the equation's structure or accuracy, such that it could have appeared that TWM would have slower or more methodical and humane alternatives to his "fixes" for the world. E.G., changing the specific variables by more peacefull means (like feeding hungry nations) instead of controlling by forced tribal wars or the killing of precise percentages of people. TWM's need to take radical action would then be merely his own sense of urgency, to make the finale represent the outcome that he alone desires?

I liked your reasoning when you stated, "I can't help but think that one of the clues we were given the other day in the ROT chatter ( "WHAT'S IN THE BOX...WHAT'S IN THE BOX?") might lead us to our next fragment code. Maybe sometime soon (Monday or Tuesday?) that "X-BOX powerbutton" link will instead reveal the code."

From the beginning I've had trouble being all that upset about TVM. Rachel seemed to be overreacting to me. I thought if he was only a man with good intentions trying to do something questionable for the benefit of humanity then he wasn't really much of a bad guy.

Recently I've changed my mind. First I think (hope) some twist will be revealed that shows his true stripes. My second reason is much more complex. I'm going to have to think about it for a bit. See next post...

The more I see of the Sri Lanka video the more TVM disgusts me. It's not that he's taking lives to save the world or what he might do to Rachel, although that's part of it. I think it's his arrogance. By saying that with this equation he can change the world's outcome, by using any means necessary to accomplish that, by deciding for us, for all humanity, what is good and what is bad, he is playing the role of God. This makes me (in game) angry.

Famine, hunger, war, pestilence are awful things. It is right that we should work to end them. But not at any cost. There are only two ways to end these things: 1) By wiping out humankind all together or 2) By radically changing the human make-up.

If everyone on the face of the earth were wiped out, what would that accomplish? If the world were remade into the image of TVM, what is the cost? Not just the cost of actually doing it like lives lost and money spent, but what would be the cost to our humanity?

I know I'm treading on delicate waters here because my reaction is all bound up with my faith. But Damon and Carlton have said that they want to explore issues of faith and meaning in the show. It's just not right for any human to act like he knows better than God.

Hi Twinkle...

Not that I disagree with you about TWM (that pony tail alone is criminal), but I thought I would add some musings, just for the sake of argument.

For me, the question is..if you could save the human race, how far could you go before it's too far? If everyone is going to die no matter what, then anyone that lives because of your actions (vaccine, genetic manipulation) you've saved.

Of course, if everyone is going to die and you know how and when and yet you take it upon your self to make the decision on how to proceed, that IS playing God.

On a side note, I was reading a mag while the Food Network was on in the background and the designer that came on Restaurant Makeover was named something DeGroot. I sat bolt upright wondering if I had missed a clue. It's amazing how sensitized I've become to the names and places of TLE.

All these heavy thoughts on a holiday weekend (at least in the US)!

I've always thought TWM was the bad guy. Just by his demeanor alone -- and let's not forget that absurd ponytail! He just seems sinister, while Rachel seems ernest and sincere. Just my gut reactions to the way the actors are playing them.

But what TWM is doing is definitely evil. He is taking a god-like stance and making decisions that are affecting a lot of humankind. Like Fenris commented on previously, he is manipulating variables for his own purposes...changing populations, genetically changing people and/or viruses, causing tribal wars that wipe out populations, altering the lifespan of people, spreading disease. He is trying to control the outcome of what the Valenzetti equation predicts and to remake the world in the image he wants. Power is the ultimate aphrodisiac, and he seems almost Hitler-like in trying to create a perfect world with people that he deems perfect and worthy. That is pure evil.

Another question is - What purpose does famine, war, and disease play in our lives? It is right and good to help those who suffer and to fight against injustice. But in our current state, what would our lives be like without suffering teaching us to be humble, to depend on each other and on God, to teach us how to truly love one another? It is partly the struggle to alleviate suffering in the world that can bring out the best in us. TVM can't know the consequences of taking that struggle away. Only God would and know what to do about it.

Twinkle: I can see your point about taking away suffering. I don't know of one utopian society that has succeeded, do you? Shangra-La does not exist in the real world.

People helping and aiding those who suffer or have less is one of mankind's great traits. Although it's that same mankind that causes a lot of suffering throughout history, people do eventually come through for eachother.

I do think more and more that people are aware of the evil in this world. This may be because of the current tensions with the Muslim world and how they perceive the evil Westerners. I really don't think that people are unaware of evil. We might be beginning to be complacent because we hear the same bad news over and over...a bombing here, kidnappings there. Even natural disasters are becoming mundane...another hurricane/earthquake, etc. (Even though the cable news plays them up, most people just go on with their lives maybe donating some money and feeling sorry for the victims.)
at
The face that TWM and his gang are putting out to the general public via their recent publicity campaign (the ads touting how great THF is) are covering up the real truth. Once Rachel and Alvar and all of us expose them, I think that this type of evil will not be overlooked. We think that with the defeat of Hitler and Nazism that this type of thinking died, too. But (in the ARG) it hasn't. Although, leaders of places like North Korea and Iran are pretty evil these days, too, and I think we do recognize it.

Yes, Fenris, keep it coming! Won't he be surprised to get back on and find we've all been talking to him! :-D

Maven: You reminded me of an article I read recently about the "distorted sense of reality" people get from watching the news on TV. Here's the link, but I think the full article is available only for subscribers. In a nut shell it says:

"availability heuristic"... describes how people base their predictions about the future more on the vividness and emotional impact of past events than on the probability of them happening again. So people rate their chances of dying in a plane crash higher after watching a news item about such an event.
...
They suffer unnecessary anxiety, and may waste money and time on avoiding or accounting for risks that are vanishingly small...

/end quote

So are we becoming more complacent or more anxious? Are we more immunne to evil or more aware of it? Or all of the above? No wonder psychiatrists can charge so much! ;-)

9/03/2006 05:25:00 PM
Blogger maven said...

Thanks for that article, twinkle. I think we are definitely become more complacent about events in the world. As the world become smaller and smaller due to the internet/24 hour cable new and instant communications, we all think we've heard the same thing over and over causing it to become an almost everyday occurance. For example, look at the suffering in Dafur. We've heard about the suffering of the African tribes over and over and there's no real worldwide outpouring. I don't know. I think a lot of people say: Someone else will take of it...I have to get on with my own life.

9/03/2006 05:36:00 PM
Blogger Capcom said...

Twinkle; that quote is very pertinent, and shows the double-edged sword of the "information highway". It's nice to be able to know what we want to know, when we need it. But it is not good for us to have info forced on us whether we want to hear it or not. One minor thing happens, and it's the shot heard round the world, in the news on TV, internet, etc. It used to be that people only knew mostly what was going on in their immediate community, except for the bit of wordly newspaper info that they got each day. And I bet that now that we know so much about what is going on all over the world, we actually know less about our neighbors and community. Just knowing about all the tragic and unfortunate events all over the world, would make us more aware of the possibility of those things happening to us, like you said. So today we learned about "availability heuristic" to go with what we've already learned in this game....man, I LOVE this game and show! :-D

Scientists will say science will address the problems, the clergy will say it's prayer, educators will say education, and politicians will say it's law or diplomacy. Bringing everyone together sounds like a good idea and that's what the public face of THF sort of looked like. The evil part comes in when there's another agenda. A self-serving one. As soon a Mittelverk thinks that he has more of a right to live than any one person in the world, he has crossed the line.

Capcom - Nice spot with the MFI. Yes that actually could well have been a very big clue and very early on. But if it is it was a crafty one doing it before we had the rest of the info. Just goes to show they did lay most of the groundwork down just on THF site.

The thing with the Valenzetti book is it was alwas a rumour it was Alvar that bought every copy, but of course it would have been the Hanso Foundation and if it was TWM at the helm, it would make more sense. He's obviously aware of the equation.

You know it also brings me back to the conversation he had with Pete Thompson and that woman. They were sceptical about the equation and Mittelwerk was trying to convince them by saying Alvar goes on and on about it in his initiation video. Hmmm.

Twinkle - I think, even though they are no doubt playing the moral question angle I don't think they will leave it open with a moral question. By the end of this there has to be no doubt TWM is the bad guy. Otherwise, well firstly the ARG would end with the end of the world still drawing in, which in itself would kind of (but definetly debatably) invalidate the Lost universe by the way it's linked to the ARG and the ARG to real life. Just too many questionmarks. It could be that the flaw is with the DI and not the equation. That is to say, the numbers just Can't be changed. But that leaves things still kind of muddled and the world still due to end soon.

Unless of course the pressumption that the world is due to end actually soon is wrong.

Oh yes, I was VERY suprised!!! LOL!

Maven - Good point about the power aphrodisiac. Actually excellent point. It could be that the DI actually sucseeded, but that TWM enjoyed the power too much and wanted to keep on manipulating the world like a true megalomaniac. He wants to have power over everything, people, envirment, genetics, life and death.

Also LOL. At the time I didn't know it was a holiday weekend in the US. :) But glad to get a discussion started! I wasn't sure anyone would even log in and see it let alone start a proper discussion. Cool. Oh yes, and it is veyr difficult to get to sleep with all those thoughts racing around in my head. Unfortunatly my mind get's very active late at night. Okay now just got to catch up on the general discussion (rathen then just ctrl+Fing "Fenris").

But before that:

Just wanted to make a point about world affairs and morality. As moral human beings we naturally hate what Mittlewerk is doing on principle. What gives him the right to manipulate the future of mankind, our DNA, the world itself? To kill thousands (maybe millions) of people because he thinks it's in our best interest. All that. And yes we should feel like that. But the tough bit is that when it comes down to it, the world sometimes is better off for taking imoral action sometimes.

Look at world war 2. We teamed up with Stalin to take down the Germans. Stalin it turned out was also a mass murdering paranoid pschopath (or sociopath at least). A megalomaniac that was so malicious he put to death so many of his own people, for no reason at all, including many of his generals in his own army! There are very good arguments for saying he was worse the Hitler (but I won't get into those right now, I think we all know they were both truly terrible people). But the fact is, it worked. Meanwhile the US dropped to atomic bombs on Japan killing a hell of a lot of people themselves in one of the most terrible ways possible. Yet without that action, where would the world be now? True it's impossible to say that we wouldn't have won out without those actions, but we did take those actions and we did win out. True we maybe didn't know the extent of the wrong of both of those, but I also doubt we were entirely innocent in that action. By We of course I mean our countries goverments.

At drastic times in history there have been decisions made that have cost lives to save more lives. Mostly in wars, but not entirely. I'm pretty sure if some kind of super virus broke out, you'd see whole cities quarentened and people left to die for the sake of stopping it spreading.

But justifications aside. What would really make TWM truly Evil would be if he was essentially just using the V Equation as an excuse and taking all these lives just to give himself power. That really would put him on Hitlers level. I suppose the big moral question would be, if his motivations are wrong but the outcome will still be better for mankind, should he be allowed to go ahead?

FEAR is a great motivational emotion. FEAR requires very little high brain function. To hell with reason...scare em to death, and they will become puppets.

How does one do an immoral act in the name of all that is good and holy?

S1E25 Hurley: Please, for the love of all that is good and holy in the world, let me on this plane.

TWM is simple repeating what political leaders have done for centuries, assuming their intellect is higher then the lowly masses, who must be lead into salvation. Unfortunately, they ultimately, "save the world as WE KNOW IT".

And we repeat the process ad infinitum......

Teasing out morality and practicality is tricky business. Why do millionaires get better breaks on their taxes than minimum wage workers? Why do middle class people get a zillion dollar park in their neighborhood while there are people in the community who can't afford the medication they need to live? The people who make the decisions talk about economic stability and tax bases and such. I don't pretend to understand but somehow keeping those-with happy increases the probability that those-without will get some relief. I'd hate to be one of the people who have to make the decisions. It's too close to deciding who is "good" and who is not.

Fenris; I like your thoughts. What you said means to me that the difference is when this kind of action is taken when one (or a people) is already threatened by something, vs. when you take action in advance of a "presumed" problem, which is what TWM is doing. Defense is easier justified, than TWM's acting on so-called precise mathematical calculations. Equations and theories have been found to be wrong in our past, but he believes that he's totally in the right on this. (Unless as you also said, that he's speeding up the process, because of opposition, etc....) A one-man-earth-saver, he seems to be to himself. As you mentioned, it makes him very Hitler-esque.

Barbara - Yes precisely. That is the problem with power. Ultimately we are giving to one or few individual humans the power to control the lives of 10s, hundreds, thousands and sometimes millions of people. Yet we all know what they way about power. What we really need is some crazy form of Anarachy where people just do good by each other and don't set out to gaint power, strength, or have no respect for anyone else around them. Sadly that isn't going to happen. I think it was Lincoln that said something like "Democracy is a poor form of government, but I beg you, don't choose any other".

Ultimately the problem isn't with the system but with humanity. To fix i we have to fix humanity and that can only be done over time and starts with how we live our own lives.

Wow I'm getting all philosophical and preachy now (and probably a little hypocrytical but don't tell anyone)

....and yes, I think that we did get a lot of Hanso/TWM/DI info given to us early on that is more pertinent to the story now that we know what is going on underground with Rachel. I'm glad that we still had that Hanso mirror site to go back to after the real one disengaged, I got to retrace our steps and recall what we learned BSV (Before SriLanka Video) to fit it in with everything that has happened since, and it makes more sense now. I think that it was kind of dumb for TPTB to turn off the Hanso site, for the reason above, and because any ARG noobies will have a harder time understanding what's going on.

Fenris, I truly believe that individuals can make a difference by their actions. Sometimes, the good we do is so tiny that we can't imagine the impact it can have. I also believe that good acts are contagious.

Having said that, I still don't understand people, otherwise good people, who vote based on who says they'll cut taxes. Don't you know where they'll cut? You'll still get that county indoor swimming pool and the potholes fixed on your street. But somehow there won't be enough tax money for AIDS clinics and drug rehab centers.

Once again, as you said, it's the regular folk abdicating their responsibility and don't even know they're doing it.

Capcom - Thanks. I like your follow ups. It's good to bounce these ideas around. Yes it's true it's hard to consider any mathematical theory based on unpredictable sources (i.e. Us) as being irrefutable to the point where your willing to sacrifice so many lives. Of course, we haven't seen the equation, so we are in the dark. Personally I don't buy it. It has to be kind of chaos theory based and that makes it exceptionally questionable. I don't believe you can accurately predict human behaviour accurately enough to ever achieve something like this. We can assume the equation is true. But it's not testable. The only way to find out if Valenzetti's equation is true is to wait and see if the world ends when it predicts. In that regard it doesn't make him that different to the likes of Nostradamus.

So definetly from my perspective sitting here in the real world, I would have more faith in humanity then I do in a non provably chaos theory based scientific theory. But then without see the actual evidence TWM has it's hard to judge the outcome of the entire ARG (fictional work that it is) on real life faith.

TBM - Thanks :)

Barbara - Well I'm going to avoid talking politics. But I agree that small differences can have an effect. Back to chaos theory again, but there is a lot of logic to it. There was a good example I read about a horse shoe. Something like:

A horseshoe doesn't get fixed
The horse can't run fast because of it
The messanger to whom the horse belongs can't get his message to it's destination as fast as he would have been able to
The message is a key message to a distant king
The king looses a great battle because he didn't get the message
A country changes ruler because of the battle.

Of course you could go further back/forwards then that.

That's kind getting off topic mind. :)

One thing though: I imagine loads of people must have entered bars over the weekend but the numbers have not gone up (except for the percentage). I think the numbers of bars & oracles have not been processed (no new pics either) but the percentage has. I'd say we see a massive jump in the # of bars & oracles tomorrow morning as they get processed, but no corresponding percentage increase.

It's been good discussing these theories. With things drawing to a close it would be a shame if everything comes to a head with most of the cumminity just shrugging and hardly paying attention. I'm just trying to ignore the slow movement of Acts 3+4 and see act 2 through rose tinted glasses. Then I may even enjoy the conclusive act 5.

Anyway, I've posted elsewhere about Steve Irwin this morning. But I just want to say I was gutted to hear the news. He was unique and a real personality and will be missed a lot.

MTP: Actually in maybe yesterdays post or the day before someone linked to a message board somewhere (love the ambiguity, huh?) where a person in the UK had already received their copy of S2. I heard another report of it too. People who had ordered it online were sent it as soon as it was in stock and not when it should be officially released. Maybe if you search the last few days comments you can find it? But nothing much was revealed because the person was not a TLE player.

Glad to hear Irwin died doing what he loved though. I pray comfort for his family.

It seems like TPTB or the writers give us a lot of credit, planting that Sri Lanka hint in the very first phone message and then having us search half of Act 2 for an island. And it seems like the marketers or distributors of the clues don't give us enough credit.

While I have been wrong many times in this TLE, I can't imagine the Sri Lanka video would be on the DVD. It wouldn't make any sense to the hundreds of thousands of people who bought the DVD and are not playing the game.
Also, the release date has been known and publicized for months, so why wouldn't they have finished the glyph hunt last week, knowing the DVD is coming out tomorrow?

Feel free to mock me tomorrow when I'm proved wrong.

I think that it is a little of both really. After all, WIA would go on forever if they didn't manipulate it a bit, or have a tiny goal of bars to reach. That said...I am feeling excited about the ending of the glyph hunt...giddy actually that there are just ten to go, and that the end is near. Things have been slow for this part, but having my positive glass-half-full hat on today, I feel something good is coming, and that we will get some answers to many of the questions from acts 1 and 2.

Going to Wal-Mart later to see about the DVDs. I agree with you Fasten about the Sri Lanka film. There was mention of an Orientation Film at Comic Con, of which I can't find a transcript to save my life, but I have a suspicion that is the orientation film that may be on the DVDs.

Fasten-While Wal-Mart has the DVDs, I am sure they won't let me have one...but it is worth a go.

After catching up on comments from yesterday about the affect things have on one another, I have to agree that I don't really know if I buy that things can be prevented when there are so many human variables in the mix. I just don't see how TWM and a series of numbers can accurately predict anything, let alone change things by "working" them. Something like the end of the world seems too fragile to be figured in a group of numbers (too fragile too to be in the hands of a random person in a hatch in the middle of the ocean alone as well, but that is to think about another day). That said, I think that TWM may have stumbled on what he though could help change an outcome...although I still haven't figured out how I feel the VE and whatever genetic test, vaccines, etc. that TWM has going will connect. I am working on that now that my brain is getting back into this game. I do think though, that he may be trying to be up to more good than we have been led to believe, but maybe not going about it in a very moral and ethical way. Also, just an addendum, there was mention above somewhere about some type of good anarchy...I am a firm believer in paying it forward, and try to do so whenever I can....anarchy, maybe not, but it's a start.

Going to check ROT...

Well, when they said season tickets and with all the football tone, I figured it was a football team reference... I just asked my hubby if football was on ABC this year and he said no, they don't have to play football on ABC cuz Disney also owns ESPN.

I read him the poem and asked if he had heard it before... he said he had not but it definitely is about football....
