Fragment Code "QUARANTINE" has been found. Another Verizon ad (click HERE for close-up) in Entertainment Weekly combined with Retrievers of Truth chatting (password is still "Steinbeck") have led us to RicherDeeperBroader.com and to click on the baseball and then in the stands on the right side of the baseball stadium. Our new code pops up in the audience. The video fragment is of Mittlewerk noticing Rachel filming. Here is the transcript: "Is there something reflecting in the back?" (TM) "Oh God" (Rachel) "Some…somebody grab her!" (TM) "There she is!" (unknown woman)

Following up on admin's thoughts about TWM and a possible #2 inferiority complex...I've noticed in the corporate world that whenever a new leader comes in, they just can't keep to the status quo. In order to prove themselves, they always introduce new strategies to acheive the same goals. Perhaps that's what TWM is doing...he can't just keep with Alvar's vision ("we all know what happened. the DI failed.")
He became the heir, by fair means or foul, and he's finally got the means and the power to execute his own, more aggressive version of saving the world. He wants to prove that he's right (and possibly that Alvar's approach was wrong) so he's willing to crack a few eggs (or sri lankans) in order to show the world HE is the right guy to run the show.

I have a question: is there somewhere, where the topic of the glyph names is discussed. I mean some are words, like "quarantine" but most are just a mix of letters and numbers. Do you think those letters and numbers mean anything.
Yay! My question exactly! I've made a list of them, but you can get the info from MTP's site yourself too. I really want to know how these all fit together. What about the numbers for each of these clues or how the dialogue in the corresponding video might shed light on the word code chosen?
I can post the list but it's really long.
Maybe the word glyphs will be a list of some sort like the list on 43 Things. Also, trevtrevtrevor's flickr now says, "trevtrevtrevor doesn't have any photos available to you." Nanite and the other glyph are gone. I don't know if it has been this way for long, it has been at least a week since I have looked at it.
David-I agree that there are surely some questions about the how of pretty much everything Rachel has presented to us. I have been feeling (ever since the Cape Town Inq. hack) that she is hiding something from us that does not have to do with her parents. I have a sneaking suspicion (and I also secretly hope) that she may not be the Pollyanna that we all think she is.
Was anything gained by that "Delivering the goods" chat on ROT? It seems like the "end zone" chat pertained more to the Verizon game site. Did we find anything from that yet? THX

Twinkle and alecj-Lostpedia has a great entry on the Sri Lanka Video with the transcript for each glyph. You probably already knew that, but it is shorter than posting it:) Also, it bothers me that the glyohs are all different but some are similar. When I see them all together at Hansolow's blog it makes me think there there MUST be a meaning to the patterns. Maybe that will come when more info comes from wia.com.

Hi, ange! Yeah, but it's helpful to just extract the named glyphs. It's pretty easy to extract the information from MTP or Lostpedia so I won't post my list. I can't help thinking they were named to draw attention to them.

The first ROT chat of the weekend also talked about "her", and a possible note, "small token", etc. I checked RB's site, but nothing stood out. Then again, I don't find those subtle ones that require computer savvyines.
Question: Has Manny helped us find any glyphs? The reason I ask is last week he gave us some wierd clue about the songs "Physical" and "bad, bad Leroy Brown." I dont think anything ever came of those clues.
The week before that he responded to 2Costa to check ew. The next day the clue was found on monster.com.

the EW that Manny refered to contained a Monster ad which led to the monster site so that was a clue.
As to "physical, physical", "bad, bad": someone earlier suspected it might hint at Bad Twin but it could also mean that there is more than one clue in the RoT chatter or that there are two codes at RDB.

That is really, really weird. I first found out about the lostondvd.om site from the TV Guide DVD that I got last week. i was really shocked to see that there was no clue on the DVD, in the Mag, or on the site.

I had another close look at the 2nd season DVD flashfile; not only is there the Gwyneth pic thinbluemine found but a rake of links to trailers and behind the scenes looks of Casanova (the Heath Ledger one). I think it is possible that these are simply programming remnants.
Mind you, Manny's bits regarding Gwyneth, Se7en, What's in the box?, headless shark are nevertheless intriguing.

AGREED pharmacopaeia! I would say that Manny just likes to show a little personality when he writes. No need to analyze every little thing:). Manny is fun, and perhaps able to lead us in the right direction, sometimes he just likes to act like a real person. Let's not go all crazy looking into cereal and flicks from the 90's. I wondered about that, was Rachel intentionally trying to irritate TVM. Also assuming that she was filming through a gap betwen boxes how did she managed to reflect the suns rays back through the gap. I woyuld have thought the refractive index of the glass in the camcorder would have made it impossible.
Maybe it was a bored Hanso minion using his watch and TVM got distracted and then saw Rachel.
I found it odd that while Rachel was between boxes and there was clear pathway between her and TWM, he did not see her then.. there were several times he was addressing the crowd and looked up towards her...

Has Mittlewerk isolated a gene for "aggression" and then created a virus that kills only people with the "aggression gene"? Is this how he's planning to stop famine, war, and poverty? Kill the people that cause it? Is he only at the stage of testing this on small populations (villages)? I'm sorry guys, I've been racking my brain all weekend and feel like I'm not coming up with anything.

I mean, I like to think I'm a pretty bright guy but this puzzle is just stumping me right now. I feel like all the possibilities we've discussed have giant gaps in them.
i dont think there is preventing it. if the equation is real, (IF), then it would probably be concrete. no loopholes, or back exits.
I'd assume that the virus specifically is set to get rid of a certain gene sequence. Like the evil gene, as seen in the Simpsons.

It does kinda fit in with the "good people" theories however. As for how killing "bad" people can stop famine....uh, I'm stuck. Maybe because the good people would share their food?
I feel like we're "leaning" in the right direction. Like I've said before, the Others' language of "good ones" and "bad ones" and their general demeanor has always come across as "cult-ish" to me. Strong convictions but just enough out of touch with reality to make them crazy. Believing and saying that you have found the "one true way"...well, this gets us back into our philosophical "playing God", "who is God", discussion that everyone tap-danced around earlier this weekend. What happens when someone firmly believes that they alone possess the one true way to save humanity? People are divided rather than united.
So what if you believed you knew the one true way and you predicted who wouldn't believe you and you figured out a way to kill them before they got in the way? You saw the division coming and attempted to kill it in advance...Is Mittlewerk killing people with a "free thinking" gene?

Problem is (and I speak from experince here as I studied genetics at University). Genetics is a highly complex subject, there is no gene for agression, or hair color or whatever. A gene is basically a map for a specific protein. If a gene is switched on the protein is produced (which may be for example a hormone). A single gene (or the protein it encodes) can be involved in many processes and any specific process may involve many genes. For something as comples as agression you are looking at inumerable factors from genetic makeup, diet, socila situation, culture upbringing etc. It would therefore I imagine be impossible to create a virus to erradicate a certain trait.
I think however the idea is along the right lines. In animal populations there is often a critical population density, beyond which behaviour changes. This has been shown in mice where male behaviour suddenly changes at a certain population density and high levels in infanticide and killing of other mice occures.
Now if we transcribe this on to humans, as population increases, so does social pressure. We fight for resources; oil, water, food. This is a real problem. I think the valenzetti equation relates to the point where the population gets so great that it self destructs, either due to war ( a nuclear was between India and Pakistan or Iran and Israel for example) or disease. Strangely enough I did my degree thesis on increased levels of disease in high density populations.
The obvious solution would be to kill off some of the population. But the problem is; kill too many of the population and society crumbles - Kill 75% of the population and your equally screwed as if you don't kill enough, society breaks down, bang go your nuclear power plants etc.
Therefore in order to avoid disaster THF have to reduce the population enough to avoid disaster whilst maintaining civilisation (I don't know say a 15% mortality rate).
This is no easy task, you have to have a virus with a fixed mortality that will spread too rapidly for mankind to find a cure in time. However there is a more accurate method. Develop a virus with near 100% lethality (THE SICKNESS?) then you develop a vaccine. You can distribute the vacine to a percentage of the poulation say in Apollo bars, or even a combination of foods that X% of the poulation will consume to to ensure that you get correct survival rate. You can also target individuals, doctors, nuclear technicians, your favorite rock band for vacination to ensure their survival. You could also exclude whole racial or social groups from vacination - don't like the French - Merde Alors! no vaccine for them.

I must admit some if it(my idea, I'm not suggest plagerism here) taken from the plot of a book I started to write five years or so ago and dumped after 110 pages, but it seems to fit.
Is the virus being tested on the Island? It seems and ideal area cut off from the outside world if it gets out of control, is Tanzania stage 2, Sri Lanka stage 4.
Is that why Desmond asks if the World is still out there? What if the 'Jump the Shark' part of Season 3 is the release of the virus in the outside world? - OK maybe that's a bit far fetched but Cuse and Lindeloff did mention The Stand!
I definitely like the idea of the Apollo bars holding the vaccine rather than the virus... makes me feel better if I do get to the Kentucky event this Friday....
Would be a good marketing tool wouldn't it " Eat Apollo Candy bars... or die a horrible death".

Funny the "REAL" Doctor Doom (Pianka), in a lecture, proposed population reduction. When the media picked up on the story, Dr Doom almost joined the population reduction Himself :)
Just a week prior to Dr Dooms lecture, Lindelof and Cuse mentioned DR DOOM, in their podcast, in relation to a comic book figure.
The two incidence did not appear to me to be coincidence and I talked about it at the time in April or May 2006.

Plus, messing with people's body chemistry to eliminate aggression has been done in sci-fi recently. I got the strong impression the wriers were trying to avoid stuff that's been done.
I don't see how TWM can be a good guy even if he thinks he's a good guy and suceeds in heading off the apocalypse. His methods make him evil.

Great Article about Dr Doom Thinbluemine - this looks a very credible plot line. It remids me of the pronouncments of a particualrly radical Bishop (who's name escapes me at predent) who suggested a similar thing.

It's all a matter of perspective. TVM might think he is the good guy. It's a difficult one if humanity is really doomed then he is doing what he has to do to save humanity and maybe even the planet as we know it.
It's s a difficult dilema - do nothing and 5 billion humans and countless species of animal and plant are wiped out. Act ruthlesslessly and you kill 4 billion say but you save humanity and all that goes with it - Hendrix, Motzart, Shakespeere etc plus you prevent the extinction of all those species.
The Earth has breathing space, Co2 levels drop, the forest return, tiger poulations expand etc etc.
It suddenly becomes a very enticing view - especially if you are a survivor.
Ultimately the question is what is more important the short time survival of all of us or the long time survival of the planet?
Of course TVM may just be a paranoid Meglomaniac with a God complex!

I like your theory presented above. How do you address the idea that Mittlewerk seems to be after specific "genetic targets"? You're saying targets for the vaccine or the virus? How did they evaluate a population's genetics?
