Clue #130 - Fragment Code "V4UMMA"

Fragment code "V4UMMA" has been found in yet another one of Speaker's fun and challenging glyph hunts. Speaker posted a new bulletin on his Myspace page saying: "The Fuselage is the place to be, Find the user, initials K.P." We know Speaker likes Kim Possible so if you view Kim Possible's profile on the Fuselage, you'll see "When DJDan streamed live on the net" as the Custom Title and "There was a comment from a coaltrain's pet" as the Personal Text.

During DJ Dan's live broadcast, Speaker started this thread on his blog. "Coaltrain's pet" is in reference to Rosco P. Coltrane from The Dukes of Hazard, whose pet's name was Flash. Scroll through the post to find a comment by the user "Flash" who says: "to top 8 number 4 is where you should prance, click on the winner of so you think you can dance.." Finally, go back to Speaker's MySpace page and click on his Top 8 , Number 4, then on the winner of So You Think You Can Dance to see the newest glyph.

Stay up to date with your hansoexposed.com fragment codes by visiting Matt the Pale's Fragment Code List.

Thank you very much to Albatross, Sleeper, Jed, Scott and SgtPepper for their emails on this!

I have a feeling there are selective edits from the video that will be a part of phase 5 or something. Maybe part of a Rachel Blake heel turn where we find out she edited the video to make THF look like the bad guys or something.

That, or I just need a nap. :)

"So the VE may be an equation that predicts the time left for us humans to survive. And just like the drake equation needs parameters so does the VE. In the case of the VE the parameters have so far always been the Numbers.

The goal is to change at least ONE of these numbers to delay the destruction of mankind.

So the numbers are not the output but the input of the VE."

I tend to agree. There has to be a "start" location or time to be able to progress to the end predicted by the VE

Ok, expanding on the question I posed above; If the numbers are variables of the equation or parameters or whatever, then is it safe to assume that the 6 research goals of the Dharma Initiative (zoology, electromagenetism, etc etc) are each specific to trying to change ONE of those specific variables?

On another note, the video doesn't need to be on the island to show up in season three, it could be part of a flashback or it could be shown to someone in the outside world, the producers have said that we will see things happening off island this season. I still wouldn't rule out the others having a copy though.

Maybe it's just me, but I'd be surprised if the last few frags yield much in the way of surprise. We've already found out that TWM is going to purposely kill people to find an answer to his problem, that's pretty shocking.

Problem is, this phase has gone on sooooo long, that we have had too much time to speculate a million different intelligent surprise endings, and I fear that whatever they throw at us now will not be too shocking since we've already guessed at it so much. I hope that I'm wrong.

RGMR and 56LHZJDCL7A4 can't go together I've tried it and Beardy has half a word at the beginning of 56LHZJDCLA4 that doesn't fit with the end of RGMR? The video makes no sense that way. Methinks were stil;l missing one beardy clip!!

Blogger oxillini said...

my problem with this explanation is that "the core numerical values" is the vaguest possible "out" tptb could choose. imagine you have 6 mysterious, seemingly unrelated words. they keep popping up everywhere you go. you comeup with many ideas on what they could mean. later, someone says, "oh, all of those words are in shakespeare's hamlet in no particular order." i'm left with a big "is that seriously all they have to say about it?!?"

9/06/2006 04:37:00 PM
Blogger oodles said...

Methinks we are still missing fragments 11, 24, and 28. Don't agree that RMGR and 56LHZJDCL7A4 are contiguous. The tilt of the head is different and there is something missing in the text.
Although the equation has been buried by those who commissioned it... [...] ...panic. It has always been my belief that we ignore warnings at our own peril; and thus, the DHARMA Initiative was born.", unless of course the video itself is missing a bit there. thinbluemime, you are totally correct IMHO. While it's probably futile to overanalyse the VE etc. in scientific terms I agree that you can't plug in population sizes, no's of nuclear warheads or whatever and have an equation spew out a DATE at the end. You would need a start date and then perhaps a numerical result could stand for the number of hours, days or whatever til the end of days. Which kind of reminds me of my theory about the Pearl log print-out - I think the starting timestamp of the log could be the number of hours that have passed since the time the arrangement of the trigrams in the Bagua were revealed to Fu Hsi, legendary ruler of China (traditional dates: 2852 BC-2738 BC).
Could this be the starting point for the VE as well?

interesting wikipedia entry on "on the rocks" other than just ice cubes. "On the rocks can also mean "in deep trouble" or "wrecked", as in "His career is on the rocks" or "Her marriage is on the rocks". In this sense the saying comes from nautical terminology, as when a ship is wrecked by going aground on the rocks.

The term can also mean that someone is in debt or bankrupt.""

Wrecked is obvious, but the marriage on the rocks and career on the rocks is oddly particular to Rose and Bernard and maybe Locke?

ARGH! Sorry, feeling really frustrated because I have spent all morning reading comments only to find if I had spent just a minute more I could have been in on a glyph hunt and helped clear up some confussion.

Speaking of frustration... 2costa, I completely disagree with you on your comments on "it's not what you know, it's who you know", Ninja and Speaker groupies (WTF?), and people "in the know". The only people in the know as far as I can tell are characters within the game, and they only know their portion of things from what I figure. I really do think you have the wrong end of the stick on this. You have complained about glyph releases suiting non-Americans when I find it completely the opposite: it seems to me most glyphs are released when I have gone to bed (or should have). Sure, there were a bunch of real-world glyphs in Aus, but I think the glyph distribution is up to those in their respective countries (whether that is Speaker, Ninja and TOG or someone that they answer to), and even with those real world glyphs there are people complaining that they can't get to them (me being one of them! But complaining out of frustration, not that I feel hard done by or anything like that). You're complaints about people seeming to have inside information (that is the gist I get from your recent comments) seem unfounded to me also - the leaderboard (if you want to use that as the example of people who get glyphs) is a mix of people from all over the net, so I just don't see what you are basing that opinion on.

Sorry, that dragged on a bit.

I know this comments thread has moved on from a lot of what was in the last one... But I'd just like to say I love the way Ixalon posted TOG's photo! I could go on more about that but... meh.

re the 30% population comment. When Mittelwerk is talking to the people in the video he is talking to those that are there to deal with Sri Lanka. 30% of the population of two villages in Sri Lanka wouldn't make a huge dent in the world's population... they are presenting it as a means of perfecting their virus not as a way of fulfilling the Equation, to my mind at least. However... what if this is then to be repeated on a global scale? What if it is already being done, just in spits and spots... 30% of local populations repeated here and there over time till the optimum global population figure is realised? But at the same time as culling people they are trying to make people live longer... which can't help with population growth... so THF have to, for example, start tribal wars to cull more people to counteract those that are part of The Life Extension program? Then back to the good/bad thing... why kill certain people? Are they targetting places they think they can get away with it, or is there another reason?

ok... going to catch up again and see what I can sniff about the glyph...

Woohoo! Only 3 more to go! (I've been gone all day.)

I was reading the new issue of a science magazine I subscribe to when two pages caught my eye. (Sorry, no glyphs.) First there was an article about food and new ways to add flavoring or keep supplemental nutrition fresh so that less degrades. Here's one paragraph that caught my eye.

"...most progress in this area has been in encapsulating the bacteria [like the bacteria in drinkable yogurt] within spheres of digestible 'biopolymer' ...A large number of labs...are developing biopolymer capsules designed to release their contents in response to different triggers, such as a particular pH or light level ...'You can target particular organs or even cells.'"

Ewww! Nanochocolate is real world!

Then on the following page they had an article on some scientists who are expirimenting with and succeding in connect nuerons with nanowires. "...connected neurons to their silicon nanowires to create a simple circuit that acted as a logic gate, the basic buidling bloxk of computers."

Next step, Data from TNG. I wonder if that's why the Black Smoke seems so smart?

Below that was an article titled "Nanoslaves set to work driving a treadmill" where scientists convinced bacteria to turn a "hamster wheel" to drive a rotary motor.

Yikes!

Justafan: I haven't posted here much, but I think I have a good theory to answer your question. They broadcast the numbers because the island itself (and the series of stations it contains) is an on-going, live experiment to manipulate the factors the can control the equation. If the factors are changed, the "main system" of the island recomputes the new values and the numbers change! THF "hears" the numbers change on the radio broadcast and knows the DI has succeeded.

What happened to the supposed encryption is still an excellent question. I like the idea that the DI participants got fed up and rigged it to not be encrypted any mor (perhaps as a sort of SOS).

Hi Guys just catching up on the posts.

It is an interesting question on the question of how to spread the virus. In Rainbow Six they were going to spread a virus by aerosol through the air conditioning at the Olympics so that all the infected athletes would go back to their own countries.

I would say timed releases at international airports would be the best bet. If your really clever the virus could have a really high transmission rate, a long incubation period (2-3 weeks) and although it only kills 30% of the poulation it doesn't mean the other 70% couldn't get it.

Hi Guys

I have a bad feeling well just get general information about the numbers. Such as they are the variables for the Valenzetti equation without finding our what each individual number actually
represents.

We also have to bear in mind that the explaination will have to make sense to the non-fan lost viewer, like my parent for instance who watch Lost each week but don't think about it between seasons and to be honest are not even aware of you Hanso are.

Hi DazzedElf - Mine too :(

Shakey - It's a difficult one the numbers - they have certainly been a Water Cooler issue - I think you are right though - It could be we ARG ers find out a more detailed explaination of the numbers in advanced whilst the TV viewers get either a more basic explaination or have more of the DHARMA/HANSO back story filled in in Season 3.

I wonder if Jack will be shown the Orientation Video from the Sri Lanka video at some point.

Peaceandnamaste,
I'm very much in your camp as regards theories. Nicely put.
The thing is: what is destiny? Can destiny be changed? If it can be changed it's not destiny, is it? Is it mankind's destiny to destroy itself or is it it's destiny to think it's going to destroy itself, come up with the equation and do everything to prevent it destroying itself?
It's a conundrum, much like time travel (change the past and eradicate your grandparents which means you were never born and never time-traveled and never changed the past....).
Perhaps the Dharma Initiative never had a chance, no matter what weird and wonderful (or horrible) stuff they came up with in their research. But that would also mean that TWM efforts are equally futile. What makes him think that he can change destiny given that the greatest minds of the century were not able to do so in so many years even with unlimited funding and support (every scientist's dream)? What is his real agenda?
We got some answers and a ******* load full of new questions.
I wonder what #70 will bring...
