Oh, thebookpolice - your comment on the last thread about Mr. Friendly reminded me of something. My husband and I were watching The Adventure of Brisco County Jr on DVD the other day (also produced by Carlton Cuse) and one of the bad guys was played by Mr. Friendly! He looked a lot younger, and he had a handlebar mustache. :)

speaking of Lost actor sightings, I've been watching the episodes of Dead Like Me that SciFi has been airing every week, and this week's episode had "Michael" in it--he was a Yoga instructor who died by breaking his neck while demonstrating one of the positions. Then when his soul was about to leave to go to a better place, he put his hands together, bowed, and said "Namaste" before he left... how crazy is that?!?

Yeah, it was totally weird... I always go nuts when I see people from other shows I watch religiously in a different show/movie (my husband hates it...), and this episode was full of those--if you're a fan of science fiction shows, you'll recognize lots of people... Of course there was Michael, and then there were actors from the 4400, the Dead Zone, and Firefly--all in this one episode! It was quite exhausting! ;-)

There's plenty in this game to complain about PERIOD.

It all feels like it did when this game began. A lot of us with the show (other forums like E!Online as well) were complaining about the air dates, getting really pissy about spoilers, just plain bitchy. So much was going on that people took out their frustration on comment/message boards (and chats).

THIS TIME, season premieres are gearing up, school has begun, and more religious rather than national holidays are occuring. Add onto that the pressure of this ARG coming to an end (prematurely upset that they'll let us down)... and that's one cluster**** of pissyness.

It's understandably, but I'd agree with THEBOOKPOLICE in that this isn't exactly the forum for that debate and MORE IMPORTANTLY, those conversations need to be handled with more respect than the usual internet-flaming.

Gotta go to a meeting. (btw, I'm PSYCHED that I actually get to listen in live to this DJ DAN podcast since I missed the last one)

hey guys! i had a fabulous time meeting everyone last night. the girls handing out the apollo bars were very nice, too... ;-) even the shade guy was fun to talk to.

a special thanks to Mrs. and Mr. O. My jeep would not start after we left. it seems i left my lights on the whole time we were at snuffers and the theatre, even though it was broad daylight when i got there... still havent figure out how that happened. i'm thinking Mittelwerk had something to do with it. But the O's and some random lawyer in the parking lot helped me get it started. unfortunately it was dead again this morning and i spent half the day getting the battery replaced (after these other 2 guys who didn't speak english helped me get it started). yay, fun....lol

even so, the Dallas event was great fun, only because meeting everyone was such a special treat. i look forward to all of us getting together again.

Okay, I have to admit, I've been putting off doing the DJ Dan stuff just because of the daunting task of cutting up two hours of material.

That I've been distracted by IRC (which is a compliment to those I talk to there, because that means your interesting!), uh, making random parody websites, playing Urban Dead (free online zombie thing) and generally procrastinating.

However I am now on it. The johnny remix I will do first because it should be easy. There is a LOT of DJ Dan talking to consider for the remix. I may have to just chop it into big chunks and make minor tweaks (which is pretty much what I did with the first DJ Dan track anyway, and people loved that).

It's actually the DJ Dan one that is the biggest problem. He talked A LOT, and he said a lot of crazy/funny things. That's the problem with Javi he talks a lot and is already very funny. It's a challenge to make him funnier. Then there is the various phone ins, I mean who do I include/exclude. Obviously I have to put my own shout outs in there. Would't be right without them. Lol.

Then the hardest thing of all, picking the music. I obviously want something I can be creative with so not a straight track sample, maybe one I can modify like with the Gonk (the music I used in the first track - I added a lot to that to make it my own). It's all hard. Plus I wanted to do not one, not two but FOUR remixes from that. Although it makes sense to put the Ninja and Speaker ones off as hopefully they'll phone into the new podcast and double my content (although got loads of Speaker audio thansk to his reader mail).

Anyway enough excuses. I have a deadline now!

Blogger DiggityDirge said...

I've asked this a few times and haven't gotten much feedback, so here I go again:

Does everyone agree with the frg order on Lostpedia.com? To me, it seems like the video is still missing more than just 1 piece. Maybe it is just the way the he.com player plays the clips, but I have watched it several times and still walk away thinking we are missing more pieces.

Feedback welcomed.

9/07/2006 05:38:00 PM
Blogger Passafist said...

I didn't agree with the order until yesterday when somebody moved a few frag around!! With only one clip left the Lostpedia one seems the most plausible!!! Glyph 70 will make the difference. If it happens to be a mittlewerk clip then Lostpedia is way off

9/07/2006 05:45:00 PM
Blogger Dt7 said...

@diggitydirge

Timdorr's latest arrangement on Youtube seems to make sense, and I think it's using the Lostpedia sequence. I do think the way the HE player skips a little at the end of each clip can make it seem as though there are more missing fragments; so Timdorr's smooth run through of it is much easier to work from.

Although, even on his version, I think the sequence is either missing two clips, or is arranged incorrectly. The "Someone is going to hel-" line still doesn't make much sense.

9/07/2006 05:50:00 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

diggity - You're probably right. Multiple segments are choppy. Rachel, unfortunately, likely couldn't locate the entire video. They've been incomplete all though Season 2, and those edits are probably very old, if not due completely to age.

9/07/2006 05:50:00 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

dt7 - Are you sure that the cut-off line isn't where he realizes Rachel's back there, and cuts himself short?

9/07/2006 05:53:00 PM
Blogger Dt7 said...

thebookpolice:
That's possible but it just doesn't sound/look right to me. Mittelwerk's head moves quite a bit between those clips... it also looks like Rachel moves the camera to the left, but then ends up back in the same position without going right again. It looks consistent enough but doesn't make sense.

Belly - We do actually say "Dude". But not as much as Americans. We also use "man". More UK like expressions though would be "Geeze" and "Boss". I've never heard anyone say "Gov'na". Some people call all women "Love" (I think the same ones that call men "Boss"). Sometimes people get called "Mush" or "Geezer" (which Geeze is short for).

Personally I have been known to say Dude and Man. I blame that on Wyld Stallions. Excellent!

FYI, Speaking of the Milgram Experiment (way back when), I remember seeing William Shatner in a PBS movie (the b/w TV days)about that experiment, and it was pretty darned creepy. With screeming "subject" and all. Over the years I have tried to find a video of that, or even just the title, to no avail. IMDB didn't reveal anything familiar, and I can't even remember if it was a pre- or post-Kirk Shatner. I did recognize him in it at the time, but that may just have been because of his "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet" fame. I know that probably not too many Tee-lekkers are old enough like me to have seen it when it aired, but are there any film-freaks out there that would know of it? Not important, and off-topic, just askin'. :-)

I have acquired Apollo bars! Yay!

Becky and I went to the Acura event at the ESPN Zone in DC. There was a nice lady with a zillion Apollos, handing them out one at a time. A guy who didn't know what he had got a Golden Oracle.

The best part was meeting TLE folk. We met Dazzedelf (Don) and his friend, Ron, KyleLane, LostBoy16, and Karen. We sat at the bar and talked LOST. It was great talking to people who understand what you're talking about. There was free food and beverages and when we left they gave us bags of goodies, which included Apollo bars. And the staff there were very nice.

We didn't win a car or anything but Becky and I got back in the Apollo Bar line and each got another. The lady still had a zillion of them but was sticking strictly to the one per person rule.

All in all, it was a lovely outing. I'm really glad I went. And we have extra bars for the trade!

And may I just say that missmegs and beachgrrl rule! They're making my Apollo dreams come true!

just a couple of theory things:

anyone ever think that hanso looking out the window in the beginning of the video is when they took the picture that is on the hanso website and in the show? he IS looking out the window of an office building, wearing what seems to be a similar suit. the video quality is even similar to the picture quality.

and second, has anyone discussed what the actual glyph symbols mean? are these just scribbles arbitrarily thrown out for aesthetic value, or do they mean something?

Great Theory, Mick (about Hanso looking out the window), that would tie the show and the ARG together very nicely.

The second message contains characters both in bold and italics. Each typeface is an independent cipher. One is a simple letter scramble. The other is segmented. Each individual segment contains letters as they appear in the solution, but these segments are themselves scrambled within my full message.

This is kinda fun. I didn't think people would notice or care!

thebookpolice - Ish. (That *so* should be in the dictionary). I've never heard anyone string whole sentances together in cockney rythming slang except on random day time tv shows where they are talking about it likes it's this quant little fun thing. People do use elements of it. For instance it's not unheard of for someone to say they are "cream crackered". It should be mentioned of course that as it is slang from a very specific part of london and I don't live and never have lived in that part of london (or any part of london for that matter) I probably don't observe the bulk of it's use. I guess in a way, it was a verbal equivelent to hacker speak, except it's harder to learn so 11 year olds can't use it and it focuses on words rather then letters.

I'm far from an expert on it (and that is pretty much most people in England).

Capcom - I think that's just crazy Irish people :) But to be honest if you replaced Desmonds "Hello Brotha" with "Safe Geeze" it probably would have turned Lost into a comedy. Lol. But if they were going to do that they should have let Micheal do his "from the hood" speak and let Charlie have a broad yorkshire accent. That would have been hilarious. "Aye up luv", "Eee By Gum, I'll blacken thee eyes for thee in a minute!".

Damn, gotta go to work now. See ya all later.

fenris - Do people on the street (in the appropriate geographical area) actually use Cockney slang? It's fascinating, but I feel like, in order to be truly fluent, you need some sort of flowchart or other handy reference guide.

HA HA HA - I don't think I've ever heard a Londoner use Cockney slang, unless they're doing it to take the p*ss out of themselves. although, you use nicknames for stuff. me and a few mates use words like...

green = mints/chewing gum
nuggets = pounds
Kentucky = unlucky
russ = bad mood
Slaters = bye
hang about = wait a second (out of order)
How's the FTSE? going up! = is she putting on weight? YES!

Nothing to do with TLE at all - and I'm sure other people use stuff like that...

Hi Guys

Anyone there -

Love the stuff about Cockney Slang, My father in law is a cockney but dosn't really use much slang. Where as myself being half Scots and half English use itquite a lot.

For example:

I don't have a scooby (scooby doo =Clue)
Your having a giraffe (laugh)
Your telling me porkies (pork pie =Lie)

Of course it's constantly evolving Having a couple of Britanys means going for a beer and unfortunatley for you guys in the Northern US I have years Americans referred to as sceptics (Sceptic Tank - Yank!)

With regards to 9/11 - this is a sensitive issue and I agree this is not the forumn for heated debate - Like wise I think you have to be careful with religion. I'm pretty open minded as I'm Pagan and my wife's Catholic but it can be a pretty sensitive issue. I am sure we have a whole range of beliefs (and lack of here) and I would hate to see this great community becomming a flame fest.

Personally whatever your faith or lack thereof - I don't care - you're all a great bunch of guys and gals...

I better get on with some work now :)

Hi Gavin

I used to work in London and I live south of London, as I said I use it as do others but not like every sentence. I certainly say I don't have a Scooby or your having a giraffe a lot and I probably use some without realising it.

Saying that my accent is a bit odd as I moved around so much as a kid - a bit of a long dorset aaa, a bit of souf London a wee bit o' Scots....basically I'm a bit of a mongrel

I think your right - it's the problem with globalisation - supposedly the fastest growing accent among teens in the US and UK is Australian, the Aussie habit of raising the pitch at the end of a sentance making everything sound like a question is becomming very common place.

It depends very much in the time and the place. In some places if you accused someone of being a witch you were just told to shut up and go home. On the other hands bastards like Matthew Hopkins would hang you at a hint of the occult (or just because someone didn't like you) - although people saw sense in the end and hanged him instead!

Witches and Neighbours by Robin Briggs is very good

Not that I'm advocating violence you understand, generally being a pacifist at heart (yes I know I spent time as an army reservist but thats another story)
