Clue #142 - LetYourCompassGuideYou.com Update

The LetYourCompassGuideYou.com site has been updated! Go there and you'll see a rather strange card with a snowman on the beach, as well as a message that the site has been removed. If you click on the word "remove", however, you'll be taken to this video in YouTube. Also, if you "Ctrl A" the page, you'll see the following link at the bottom: 13/9/19/19/9/14/7/15/18/7/1/14/19
It takes you to the Index of /usr where you can finally find the missing_organs.zip in the trash folder. The title of the document inside the zip file is "Evidence of the Hanso Foundation's Crimes". Also, you'll find that there are some new entries in the OpenersHep.log file regarding William T. Kilpatrick (WTK).

Thank you to makomk, Gavin, Scott, Wendy, and Dennis for emailing us on this!

posted this also in the last comments section. this is lostpedia's info on vialex from the june 1 cape town inquisistor clue.

Text of article page
CAPE TOWN INQUISITOR SOUTH AFRICA Friday, 26th May 2006 HOSPITAL RAID (CONT'D FROM PAGE ONE)

Some of the patients found with missing organs were in a comatose state -- kept alive by heart/lung and dialysis machines. Police investigators have also reported the discovery of a "chilling room" in which recently-deceased bodies were kept just above the freezing point. According to eyewitnesses, industrial quantities of Vialex -- a pharmaceutical agent for the preservation of organs for transport -- were also discovered along with several lots of an as-yet-unidentified chemical marked as "experimental." The hospital -- which has ties to The Hanso Foundation -- denies all accusations of illegal experimentation and organ harvesting, a growing problem in the developing world, but for the families of the victims, the nightmare is worse than any of the charges.

I'm wondering if there's something we're missing about this latest development. It seems kinda bleh to me.

We already were of the opinion that THF was evil. So, to be really shocking (TEAR THE FOUNDATION APART!!!!!), they'd have to be doing something either really really really evil that we'd never have thought of (pooping on spinach crops), or something good that we'd never have figured they'd be capable of.

Well, I'll just have to ask my son-in-law who works for Chrysler what the heck is happening and where they put their out-of-line employees..I'm sure he'd know:) Or...was it Hanso that go WTK?

Ange,
Random, yes. All the sponsors are probably just tying up their "storylines" as best they can. I doubt we're going to derive any solid info out of this. It's just jeep's way of saying, "here is what happened to the zip file and WTK." I've only glanced over the document and it seems like it's just reaffirming things we already have a good idea about.

I'm interested though to read through the document carefully and see if there is anything really helpful in it.

I'm 99% sure the video was filmed at a Potbelly's restaurant. It's one of my favorite lunch spots (there are 3 very close to where I work/live) They are known for having live music and the finish out/decor was very Potbelly-ish.

dante - I think what that means is that THF forged the DNR orders to make the deaths seem like "what the patient wanted," rather than "we killed him for his spleen."

However, I think we're looking at at least one typo. The date under the morgue photo for Daniel Bolda is a month in the future (10/17/06). I'm sure it's supposed to be 1/17/06.

Yesterday (9/20) at around 11:40 A.M. in Troy, MI, one of our former employees was abducted during one of our Jeep Compass Music Tour performances with Eric Hutchinson. The abductee's name is William T. Kilpatrick. He's about 6' 2" tall and was wearing a green Jeep knit shirt and khaki pants. The van that the two men were driving was a grey Dodge Sprinter. Local authorities have been notified but we'd like to use the power of youtube to spread the word. If you have any information, please email thejeepchannel or simply comment. We are working on establishing a tip line. PLEASE POST THIS VIDEO ON AS MANY SITES AS YOU CAN. Thank you for your help.

So, maybe Hanso has these hospitals where they take relatively young (in their 40's) patients with mild problems and have them sign a do-not-resuscitate form (after all, THAT'S not going to happen...it's just a formality) and then they do something to them that puts them in cardiac arrest. They can later show officials the DNR paper and it's all legal. They harvest organs without the loved ones knowing about it......

It might be a big deal the the DNRs were forged. There's something very fishy about the DNR on page 5. The "fax" looks like it is faded or didn't transmit, but the signature and the black-outs are perfect. It looks like they were added later.

Another email from All_Games brings up something interesting in the new LOST Season 3 poster. There is something about the eye colors. All_Games points out that Sawyer's eyes should be blue and Kate's eyes should be green. She also reminds us of the episode with Jack as a child with brown eyes. Jack's eyes are unusually blue when he pleads with the airport attendant to allow his father's coffin on the plane. She points out that they appear to be 2 different colors when Jack changes his report regarding his father's sobriety during a particular surgery. She recommends watching the DVD where it is easier to make out things like eye color. There seem to be a number of discussions regarding the new Season 3 poster all over the web.
It would be interesting to know if any of the actors wear color contacts during filming of the show. I think the colors on the poster may be just for artistic purposes. Eye color changes to some degree based on the lighting so I don't know if this is really a clue.
My question would have to be: Why are the pictures taped together? I suppose it is because the survivors have been studied carefully and the poster makes it look as if the Others have a room with photos of the survivors taped to the wall. The DYMO label maker label is a nice touch. Twenty years ago, every scientist used DYMO labels to label stuff in the lab. I know this! :)

If you were talking about the license plate number on the van that took WTK away, it was on the first vid on youtube (the one from thejeepchannel) and it looked like they did a close=up of it on purpose. Anybody know how to look up ownership of a vehicle using the license plate number? its 1646HH, a Michigan plate

All the Hanso projects have to do with changing the Valenzetti Coefficients.

The WWPDP banner, under which THF built lots of hospitals, is the front for their organ harvesting network.

The organ harvesting feeds back into the LEP.

One of the drivers of the "unchangeable" Valenzetti Coefficients is human life expectancy.

As TWM says in the Sri Lanka video,
"We have tried changing these factors by manipulating the environment."

Maybe. But the MHA also included the Vik Institute, home of number crunching savants continually cranking through the Valenzetti Equation to see if any of the coefficients had changed yet.

I commented in an earlier thread that the giant banks of computers in the Swan station probably are there for the same purpose, but they have a problem with finite precision that the savants don't suffer from. My theory is that computation errors caused by the finite precision accumulate over time, and therefore the program has to be reinitialized with the correct values of the coefficients periodically -- about every 108 minutes.

Episode 2 spoiler:

September 21, 2006 - From BuddyTV/TheTailsection.com

This may or may not take place in this episode...but seeing this episode is Locke-centric I think it is pretty safe to say it happens...but you never know these days.

So just why was John Locke so whack as to name his for-pay-phone-friend after his ex-girlfriend? Is it just nostalgia? Or is the man bent? Well, sources close to the Hawaii set claim to have seen some footage being shot of Locke's woman being show in a death sequence. This would be the "original" Helen played by Katey Sagal. Segal has recently joined the cast of "Boston Legal". The death scene involves a car accident that wasn't exactly an accident.

My thoughts (this is an old theory of mine) Locke and Helen were under the peir that collapsed under Hurleys weight.

I think the problem is that TLE was a first and therefore a bit of trial run for ABC. Their simply not going to throw money at it unless they get a return for their money, and the same for the sponsors.

The bottom line is if TLE is more effective that say billboard or TV advertising then they'll throw money at it. In this case I don't think it turned out to be.

But hey we got a lot from it without having to pay a penny to ABC so I'm happy.

I know what you're saying with the trash can thing but you would be amazed at how careless people are. Non-technical people don't realise the trashbin does not destroy files, and people just get careless or blase.

It's like the new stories you get every so often of government laptops left on trains with no password protection, or top secret documents left in taxis.

dark angel: i think part of the problem we think abc had (lack of funding/interest from sponsors?) was the choice of products advertised. i mean, they could tell the greatest story ever written and i'm still not buying a jeep compass. who would make a $25,000 decision based upon the manufacturers involvement with their favorite tv show. and partnering apollo with acura in the us makes no sense. people are going there to get free candy bars, maybe they'll buy a $30,000 car on their way out?

9/22/2006 08:59:00 AM
Blogger Dennis said...

OTOH, they missed a big opportunity to sell Apollo bars. While it was nice to get some for free, I would have been willing to pay $1 a bar to get them, and I'm sure a lot of other people who weren't near a giveaway would have done the same (as evidence by sales on eBay)

9/22/2006 09:04:00 AM
Blogger Chris Procter said...

I agree oxillini - I can understand Verizon and Sprite but why Jeep? I am suprised as well they did not try for a more international sponsor, I don't know about Australia but Verizon don't operate in the UK. At least they weren't sponsored by McDonalds...

Blogger BarbaraJay said...

Designermama, I know what you're talking about. The little boo-boos don't bother me too much. The loss of momentum (and rationality) at the end was disappointing. TPTB may not have ever done this before, but other people have, albeit, on a much smaller scale. They could have picked up a book and learned how to do it. With such a big investment, one would think they could have spent a little more time on their homework.

Having said that, I've had fun and, at this point, almost anything more they could do will make me happy.

dark angel: yes, i never understood jeep or acura's involvement. verizon makes some sense, bu why not t-mobile? they operate in more locales, right? and i figured most of the sponsors would have more to do with ciomputers and the web given where the game was taking place. why wouldn microsoft advertise their new vista software, or apple try to sell you a mac? and i know i've harped on this before, but that sprite ad campaign is just plain awful. the only people paying any attention to it are the arg players and it has been insinuated to us that sprite is laced with something dr. hackett is researching. nice!

regarding the overall feeling on mistakes. i know this is abc's first arg and the first one associated with a tv phenomenon, but it is not the first arg ever. just friggin hire some of the killer bees (halo video game arg) production guys instead of farming it out to the interns! long story short, lost is a cash cow for abc. regardless of whether this arg lost money or broke even, they had the chance to fatten up the cash cow that is the tv show. so you lose a couple thousand on a web scavenger hunt over the summer. what do you think a 30-second ad during the season premiere costs?

designer: good point regarding advertising for the sake of brand identity. my question with jeep is, why did they keep showing us the compass, the least "jeepy" of their product line. it is a car based crossover vehicle, not a serious off-road vehicle and in the same vehicle category as the acura rdx promoted at apollo giveaways (although down the price scale several thousand) if jeep wanted to cultivate their image peter thompson would have ordered jeep wranglers unlimiteds for their increased cargo room and legendary off road capabilities. perfect for when that stolen lung absolutely has to be delivered across the great rift of africa! see, i should have worked for abc! tptb, are you listening (taps mic) is this thing on?

Sure, sublimaly (not sublymonally) there might be a connection later on down on the line to buy Jeep, but Verizon and Sprite makes more sense for the majority age group in the game.

CAN ANYONE GET A GOOD CAPTURE OF THE OPEN BACK OF THE VAN IN THE VIDEO? IT KIND OF LOOKS LIKE SOMEONE'S IN THERE WITH BIG BLACK JACKIE-O SUNGLASSES ON. I DUNNO, MAYBE RACHEL? SHE WORE THEM ONCE OR TWICE.

RB-font off. :-) I agree about how it seems that ABC/TPTB maybe didn't have an experienced ARG producer/director overseeing this game. ABC could have probably found one in the Disney Imagineering employee pool, for heaven's sake.

Good morning friends! :-)

Rachel misreads the Danish language gearshift on her Jeep Compass and accidentally puts it in reverse, crushing Joop.

That one made me laugh out loud FYSB(not good when I am at work :P)

Anyway peeps - time to go home bath the kids, walk the dog and of course watch InEnglandandLost's You Tube video with sound.

Probably be back on line sometime later.

Namaste

Morning belly! Wow, it's about to be the "last time" for everything as the countdown to Sunday begins...

Natevoodoo: Those errors were pure laziness. No spellcheck and didn't want to look it up anywhere! :)

Fysb: Yes, a gag reel of TLE would really be something! You make me laugh every day! Bloopers would really be funny, too. I'm betting there's a million of those!

Hey, ryan! Love your new avatar!

IF I TYPE IN CAPS AND BOLD DOES THAT MEAN I'M "RACHEL-IZING" LOUDER THAN ANYONE ELSE?

Ok, Ox, I think you should take....

The How Do You Know if You Are Parthenogenically Related to Rachel Blake Quiz

1. Do you have an irresistable need to type in either uppercase or lower case, ignoring all social conventions to use them both appropriately?
(hmmmm, ok that's one yes)

2. Are you compelled to videotape all of your exploits, then edit out the really interesting parts?

3. Do you stalk secretive billionaires for no apparent reason?

4. Do you find yourself assaulting strangers with small appliances, only to become oddly drawn to them in a romantic way?

5. Do you write your grocery list in a combination of binary and hex?

6. Do you end your conversations with irrelevant movie/tv quotes?

I'm sure there are more telltale signs...TLEC - a little help?

definitely. while i do respect punctuation, the upper case letters are dead to me.

2. Are you compelled to videotape all of your exploits, then edit out the really interesting parts?

my employer videotapes all of my exploits at work, but i have no idea if the videos are edited in the room all the cameras ffed to. i bet they make weekly highlight reels a la sportecenter's plays of the week.

3. Do you stalk secretive billionaires for no apparent reason?

no, the recluses i stalk are far more destitute.

4. Do you find yourself assaulting strangers with small appliances, only to become oddly drawn to them in a romantic way?

my wife and i met during our now infamous "blender incident of 1999."

5. Do you write your grocery list in a combination of binary and hex?

yes, i assign each aisle at the grocery store a hex value and categorizing the binary encoded items into the hex aisles. for smaller stores, i use octal.

6. Do you end your conversations with irrelevant movie/tv quotes?

nope, never.

how'd i do fysb?

here's lookin' at you kid.
