Clue #145 - TheHansoFoundation.org Update

There has been an update to thehansofoundation.org. Alvar Hanso has written a letter about the restoration of the Foundation. But that's not all...click the word "humanity" at the end of the third paragraph for a creepy message from Mittlewerk.
Thanks to makomk, jetamo, DJP3DRO, and superdifey for emailing us about this update.

first??
oh well, second will do!!
"You've Taken A battle, But thats all it was, A Battle. Humanity needs me, now more than ever. I have the virus I have the will... and I will not fail..." TVM
lol... did he just leave that on hanso's voicemail?
Top ten! They're really setting this up for a sequel, aren't they?
wow... the old hanso site is changed! Good morning
Top 10 ?
What that means??!!!
Looks like the are setting this up for a sequel.
Reminds me of the end of Flash Gordon (the 1980 movie).
TVM = Ming the Merciless.
The entire Flash Gordon Soundtrack is now looping in my head.
I didn't think it was over
Top 15! Good morning all-
Time for lunch
be back in an hour
WAIT....WHAT!!!!!! Also, awesome!
Hey ange! How's tricks?
Kools

Why thank you :o)
Wow! Reminds me of the way the game was when it first started. Too cool.
bold, here's the link for the chat room
OMG! Mittelverk is still a threat! Get the Apollo bars ready and let's get him!
(I actually think this is kind o cool.)
yay sequel game!
Sweet, reminds me of Act 1, too.
What if you ate your tasty dark chocolate appollo bar...?
excellent,
ME too Minnesota - perhaps will be cocntinued next summer, since there is still a war waging
Bye everyone!
Mmn The Lost experience - ie the first battle is over but the war is just beginning.
Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few. (Prolonged cheers.)
All hearts go out to the TLErs, whose brilliant actions we see with our own eyes day after day but we must never forget that all the time, hour after hour, month after month, our TLECers travel far into the web, find their targets in the darkness by the highest geeky skill, aim their mice, often under the heaviest confusion, often at serious loss, with deliberate, careful precision, and inflict shattering blows upon the whole of the technical and war-making structure of Hanso power. (Cheers.)
After Churchill
I smell a sequel!!!
Good morning losties!!!
I just listened to the podcast, saw the RB video, and checked out the lastest update!! AWESOME!!!
I think that Mitts is not gone, we have not seen the last of him!!!
ok what does it say at the bottom of his letter? between Alvar's signature and the hanso foundation logo. It looks like there are some grey letters there. Is anyone else seeing this?
I found a link to this:
http://stophanso.rachelblake.com/Flicker/Flicker.html
at rachels blog.
Its probably old but can anyone tell me where/when it was from?
custmx1,
the grey letters are the logos for the hanso projects, the LEP and MFI etc
Gee, all that needs is,"BWAAAAAAA-ha-ha-ha-ha!" (evil laughter of the villain). Glad that ho-hum rachel video wasn't the comlpete end of this.
Morning Thrasher,
Custmx1 the letters are the logos for the different projects; LEP - Life Extension Project etc
Chixylix - sorry that's a very old clue - it was originally a flash slideshow with lots of images
good morning everyone! so they set up a sequel. alvar vs. mittelwerk in a cage match next summer! i hope they dole out a couple more loose end ties up until the season premiere.
Ooh, a podcast is ready? Where IS it? iTunes isn't picking it up and I don't see a link on TLEC page.
Maybe it'll be a celebrity deathmatch ;)
Hi Designermama
I think the podcast Thrasher is referring to is the MP3 of the DJDAN podcast under clue #143. The TLEC podcast won't be until next weekend I guess as the deadline for audio clips is Thursday.
dark angel - know i have the flash gordon song in my head.
Klytus: Most effective, Your Majesty. Will you destroy this Earth?
The Emperor Ming: Later. I like to play with things a while before annihilation.
de de de de de de de de de de de
Flash
A- ah
- I could go on all day
I think I'll have to put the DVD on tonight :)
Nice! I am a drum 'n' bass fan and the group Hive uses that sample at the beginning of one of his songs but never knew what it was from. I've got to go rent Flash Gordon.
Morning all. This latest development excited me. I'm so glad that that boring video wasn't the end of TLE. And maybe it's just because it's on the hanso site, but the new letter with the hidden link really reminds me of the first phase. Very exciting. Looking forward to seeing everyone in TLE 2: The search for more money. :)
Ah Classic movie theunrealcity - produced by Dino Delaurentis who produced Barbarella - very over the top and a stunning soundtrack by Queen
definately worth watching with a few beers
Woohoo! Epilogue! So exciting! So now we can infer that Alvar is no longer being held captive and will be in charge of the new Hanso Foundation. I bet he'll hire Rachel to work along side him and they'll be doing the "making up for lost time as father and daughter" thing now. Mittlework will be underground doing his nefarious pony-tailed Dr. Evil thing. The question is was he more a threat when he was part of a semi-public organization or now that he's underground?
I totally didn't see Alvar being freed and restarting the Hanso Foundation back on its noble purposes with Rachel at his side. Maybe they'll even let Joop have a quiet retirement? Anyway, bumps aside, I'm very happy with this ending.
I'm interested in which side in this fight Peter Thompson is goin to fall. He obviously is attracted to the Alvar side of things in terms of helping humanity, and has questions about TWM's morality. On the other hand, he has a pesonal debt to Mittelwerk for curing his cancer.

The photo on THF of Alvar is darn near identical to http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0930787/
Doesn't do Alvar justice. He looked better in the RB video. Or, is it just his "bad twin" over at the IMDB?
Maybe TVM will set up a secret base on a tropical Island with a bunch of henchmen, secret underground hatches oh and say a defence system and ... oh wait a minute that sounds familiar....
Good question, engineer!
Linklane, I agree. I thought Alvar in Rachel's video was quite striking! *blushes* My husband is just starting to go a little gray. I can't wait!
I'm a little sad that season three is suppose to have less mythology. I would have liked to see more of a connection with TLE or "Reality" as DJ Dan calls it (which I thought sucked by the way). It seems as if they want to keep the two almost totally seperate, which annoys me.
But seriously, could the DJ Dan podcast have given us any less info or entertainment? Rachel finally had nothing to hide and still didn't give us anything. Thought that was dumb.
engineer: but peter doesn't have to pay back his debt to twm if big alvar will protect him, right?
This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
Well Linklane he is at least 80-100 years old so whatever he looks pretty darn good
Thanks, twinkle.
The writers for The Lost Experience, just like Lost, have to remember that it's character that really drives the story and keeps people coming back.
And the PT character is a really interesting one, given his sordid past, moral questioning, and vocal similarities to DJ Dan!
Will Alvar put his faith back in the Dharma Initiative?
Is RB now committed to her father's cause?
Is RB so techno-savy that she is the best choice to rebuild a technical infrastructure for THE island?
More importantly, will we see a remastered CD of Geronimo Jackson debut album?
Stay tuned, TLEC'rs
ox: Well, I have a feeling that even if Alvar is willing to go to bat for PT, he is still going to have a hard time winning Rachel over to his side, after she spent all summer digging up the dirt on him that she shared with us.
Could be a terrific story...
Totally vering off topic but Peter Thompson got me thinking about DJ Dan and DJ Dan got me thinking about about Donuts and Donuts made me think Homer Simpsons and I thought Isn't about time we had a Lost Simpsons episode.
Flight 815 out of Springfield crashing on the Lost Island. Ralph Wiggum being eaten by a polar bear, Homer eating the entire Dharma food drop, the comic shop guy in the hatch ...
Now that would be even better than the Star Wars episode of the Muppets.
good point engineer and it should make for a great story in tle 2: the two powers
also, nice avatar. go geek power!
World Geek Dominance!
I was so cheering Sunday night when Rachel proudly announced her Geekdom!
dark angel: i can already hear the comic book guy in the hatch, filing his issues of radioactive man!
remember engineer (i assume your an electrical engineer), the geek shall inherit the earth!

RE: last night's thread;
Yes, Matt, we get it. I wanted to know what YOU thought TWM's religion was, I should have phrased my question better. Having worked in the field of science for 30 years, with all kinds of scientific disciplines, I know the distinct differences between science and faith, etc. (Just ask Scully:-) But in the science world, TWM's voracity would still not be called a religion, it would be more to the affect of philosophical or theoretical obsession. Just because a scientist/theorist lets his scientific "power" go to his head (and almost become his own god--Lord knows, I worked with enough of those!) his/her obsessive philosophy doesn't turn into the literal definition of a religion. Heh, shades of L.Ron Hubbubb.
Dark Angel, intersting end-of-the-world thoughts. Although, TWM and AH kept saying, "The world as we know it", and everytime I hear that I think, well, how do we know that a change to the world from "as we know it" to something else, would not be a good thing? Just wondering. Could go either way.
Also DA, even though we say "Mom" in the US, I like the way you all say "Mum". I thought that it was especially heartbreaking the way "Mum" was written on the envelope from Princes Harry and Wills that was on the little bouquet on top of Diana's coffin. :-(
oxillini -- ROFL.
And you assume correctly. The "27" is not a randomly selected number, either.
True geekness is an art.
P.S. Dark Angel....TWM=Ming, that's great! And if you are speaking of the 1980's Flash Gordon soundrtack, that was excellent!
"FLASH! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Savior of the Universe!!!!!!!!!!"

Capcom:
I agree, the danger is in an individuals blindness to new ideas whether in religion or science or anything else for that matter.
If something is really valid whether as a religious belief or a scientific theory then it should be able to stand up to constant testing.
Blind, unquestioning faith in any dicipline is dangerous.
Oh and Aargh Diana - sorry one our Tabloids over here (The Daily Express - or the Daily Facist if you prefer) still print Diana storys virtually every day!
oxillini said...

True, but unfortunately perfection will have to wait. I need to go design some circuits now...
Engineer27
I'm meant to be working and now you've got me all distracted trying to figure out the relevence of the 27 - d'oh
And Dark Angel...thank you for Churchill, literally and in your parody way. :-) Too bad they are still milking the Diana thing, not too much anymore over here.
Oh yeah, what would Nelson and Milhouse be doing on the island? Well, they did give us that Lord of the Flies ep, Milhouse was pretty funny in that one! And there was a BOAR in that ep too, wasn't there? Deja vu.
OMG..THAT WAS GREAT
Dark Angel and others, you crack me up. I would LOOOOOVE to see the Simpsons version of Lost. Of course Lisa would be pointing out all the oddities and scientific stuff, and maybe the locker of food in the hatch would turn into the island's Kwik E Mart. ;-)
Oh, and thanks SO much for planting Flash Gordon in my head all day... FLASH! Ah--ahhhh!
Jumped the gun there a bit on the TLEC podcast, oh well!
i bet mayor quimby would be fenry!

Is there another?
GOOD MORNING TLEC!!!
WOW!!!!Very cool...I missed the music and all...Catching up on comments...
DA, Ox, Designer.....OK, now we eventually have to do a complete Simpsons/Lost cast equivalency list! Well, at least till we get another TLE message.
Gosh, I can't believe that TPTB are still thowing us bones, yay! Maybe they'll sort of defy ABC and try to continue with what they wanted to do, before they got the theoretical axe, as long as it doesn't cost anything. I'll take all the bones they will throw out, this is still fun, just reading THF website messages.
Good morning TLEC! I'm so glad this is continuing, since there are so many unanswered questions, I didn't feel like it could be over. Yay!
I haven't posted lately because I've been so busy with my new puppy, Hurley (check picture in my profile/blog). It's just like having a baby again!
Anyway....Looks like an all-out war is coming? It seems the success of Mittlewerk will depend on the people he has working for him. He won't be able to "wage war" alone. Just like Hitler, he needs his army to blindly follow even if what they do goes against their "humanity".
DA...I didn't know if maybe the original Flash Gordon serial had a soundtrack or not. Just checkin'. Would be neat to have the rocket and electrical sound affects from the serial! I bet that Filmfax or Outre magazines might sell something like that. But, I digress, as usual.
Maybe we should email Matt Groenig - although I am not sure whether ABC would be too happy with FOX taking on Lost!
Morning all (still get to say "morning all", yeah!):
Wow, and ABC told us it was over Sunday!
So glad it looks like TLE Part II is coming either during the season break or next summer! Hopefully, some unanswered questions will eventually be addressed.
TWM has the virus...creepy!

Sounds like a job for tonight
DA, the Simpsons seem to take on any pop-culture they dang well please. :-) Much like S.Park.
'Morning everyone who just came in! Yeah, we still get to say that, innit great?
Re: Simpsons parody of LOST
This year's Treehouse of Horror is set in stone, but maybe we can talk about it enough to put a bug in Matt's ear. It would be a great idea.
Ooooh, I want to help with that, I have a meeting. Maybe on my lunch I can jump in. The love triangle of Jack/Kate/Sawyer will be hardest to cast Simpson Style. Bart and Santa's Helper have to = Walt and Vincent, but then will Homer = Michael? He works more as Hurley. Then again, the video store guy could be Hurley. Mrs. Crabapple or the sister of Marge who married Troy McClure are the only single women to be Kate... oooooh, then Jack = Principal Skinner and Sawyer = ???? Oh, gotta think about this, I have an 11:00 meeting to go to! Bye!
Yes, capcom....it's great to still be here!
Oh... Maybe Mr. Burns = Fenry (bad guy in charge, right) and then Smithers = Mr. Friendly??? Ok, really gotta go.
And I thought I was done updating the Timeline!
Tommy can you hear me? Humanity and I need you, let's do lunch, call me. you hot piney dude.

Right on, brotha!
Remember we still have no idea what the spider protocol is. That whole memo is just out there.
Is the virus involved with the spider protocol? If, so presumably TWM is planning to go forward with it.
Seems thought that since the memo was talking about necessary environmental factors the island had, that this is ddifferent and separate from the virus.
So is Alvar going to go forward with the spider protocol?
Michael = Homer
Walt = Bart
Vincent = Santa's Little Helper
Jack = Dr. Hibbert
Jin = Bumblebee Man
Sawyer = Snake
Sun = Cookie Kwan
Hurley = Comic Book Guy
Desmond = Professor Frink
Kate = Lisa
Claire = Marge
Aaron = Maggie
Anyone else?
Ok... Locke = Krusty the Clown
Hey Bookpolice, you should have put a spoiler sign on that Simpsons link! :-) That's awesome, thanks. Well, maybe they will have thrown in an offside line or two about Lost. You know how they toss out popculture quips in the middle of conversations.
Re; "A dead looking Mr. Burns"? I thought that he was supposed to look dead anyway. :-)
Cute new doggie, Codysmom! Hurleeeeeeeeeeey!
Designer; Bart and Santa's Helper as Walt and Vincent, LOL!!!!!!! But Homer could be Michael, they are both always yelling their son's names!
Eww, Kate can't be Lisa, she's in 2nd or 3rd grade! Bart's in 4th, right?
Let's rethink the love triangle. I don't think Jack has to be Dr. Hibbert. He's married anyway. We need a lusty trio. Can you tell nobody's in my meeting yet.
My votes:
Jack = Ned Flanders (likes to help people)
Kate = Selma or Mrs. Krabapple
Sawyer = Lenny (Snake's a good idea, but he's a marginal character)
Any other nominees?
Good morning! Holy cow is the ARG over or not? Going to catch up on comments now.
"We've got to find my SON! My SON!!!!," Bart walks past Homer, "D'oh!"
Wow, those are great! And Locke as Krusty, too much. If we knew who "Him" was, maybe that would be Mr. Burns. Especially if "Him" is AH, you know, reeeeeeeally ooooold, like Mr.Burns. Who could Smithers be?
Who are Homer's work and bar friends, can they be anyone? Or just the cast of Others?
I dunno about Desmond, he's just too sexy to be anyone on the Simpsons! :-)
Maven- I knew you shouldn't have cleared out all your bookmarks yet!
Here's my list (second attempt)
Jack Homer
kate Marge
Sawyer Moe
Hurley Otto
Jin Skinner
Sun Miss Krabappel
Claire Lisa
Charlie Milhouse
Locke Bart
Michael Carl
Walt Lenny
Sayid Apu
Desmond Groundskeeper Willie
Boone Martin Prince
Shannon Terri / Sherri
Anna Lucia Patti Bouvier
Libby Miss Hoover
Rose Jaqueline Bouvier
Bernard Abe Simpson
Eko Rev Lovejoy
Fenrey Chief Wiggum
Zeke Dr Hibberd
Miss Clue Mrs Hibberd
Others Nelson, Jimbo etc
Vincent Santa's Little Helper
Alvar Hanso Burns
Dr. Candle Dr Fink
Assorted losties - everyone else
Designer; if Jack ever says on Lost, "Hi-diddle-doo neighbor!", we will know for a FACT that TPTB read this blog daily!!!!!!!!
Or Michael as Ned Flanders and Walt as Todd and Rod
Or how about just Homer and Family with the real Lost cast :)
designermama - "We've got to find my SON! My SON!!!!," Bart walks past Homer, "D'oh!"
That's brilliant.
I was kinda thinking that the romance angle would have to be scrapped. However, you could have Jack be Principal Skinner, Mrs Krabappel as Kate, and I can't let go of Snake as Sawyer. There's always marginal characters in the ToH episodes. And Snake's got a history of stealing women.
Lisa would then have to be.... I dunno. She never dies in the ToH, at least not to my recollection.
Yeah Maven, what Scoupost said! :-)
Oh yeah, guys! We're getting there!
Willie as Desmond???? Noooooooooo! But, OK, it fits. :-) But I can't kiss Willie. Blech.
dark angel - The problem with Dr. Hibbert as Mr. Friendly is that the Simpsons PTB have already cast him as Dr. Moreau. I don't know if they'd want to do that again.
Dark Angel, Capcom:
That's great!
My revised votes:
Him = Burnes
Fenry = Smithers
Mr. Friendly = Chief Wiggum
I love Desmond = Groundskeeper Willie, and Bart = Locke (scar and all!) and Carl and Lenny as Michael and Walt. This is great, now we're really going into the meeting. Catch up at lunch. LOL!!!!!!
And don't forger Hank Scorpio (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hank_Scorpio) as TVM
but who for Rachel B.?
so what to do with ralph wiggum. you can't have a truly great episode without ralph!
I'd be worried if I were Rachel. A loving Daddy coming out of nowhere. He might want a kidney.
Got it - Jessica Lovejoy as Rachel Blake ( cute and anoying)
You're right Bookpolice, the Simpsons could be on an island/planet/scaryplace and around the cast of Lost/Simpsons. That would simplify things.
Designer; yes, the "My Son/D'oh" thing was exceptionally good! Especially since Michael had a "D'oh" look on his face when Fenry told Michael why he wouldn't tell anyone about the island.
rachel b is one of those purple haired snotty twins!
Mittlework = Side Show Bob?
TBP: Are you saying anything we say might be held against us in an episode of Simpsons?
Noblelawyer: My theory is that the simplest explanations are the most likely. TPTB don't seemed to have thought things through as much as we have. Therefore probably everything related to the SPIDER PROTOCOL was in that packet Rachel got from Darla and Hugh and not much more. Virus, test site, ship to transport and spread infection. The video revealed that the SPIDOR PROTOCOL was the development of the virus to kill exactly 30% of the world's population in order to change one of the factors, one number, influencing the Valezetti end of the world date. Does it make total sense? Maybe not, but I think we're being asked to take this stuff largely at face value.
Oxillini said:
so what to do with ralph wiggum. you can't have a truly great episode without ralph!
Too true - you could recast Otto as the Pilot (Dude, how do you fly this thing) and fit Ralph in as Hurley although not sure if that would work though.
Oh yeah! Fenry as Smithers, I can see it. "Him's" go-to/go-fer guy. You guys are too fun! I think we've made our own TLE:the Simpsons ARG.
Then I guess Alvar would be Side Show Bob's brother.
Wow, that little message was a better ending than having to listen to an hour and a half of DJ Dan yelling and screaming. Definately leaves the door open for more. Definately closes the door for this having anything to do w/ the show. Thank the Almighty Thor RB won't be showing up in season 3. They'd be getting into Globtrotter territory there.
Just something funny I noticed earlier today.
On www.msn.com, above the entertainment section which contains a picture of some of the Lost characters is a coincidental story "Mayan calendar pegs doomsday for 2012"
TWM is already working his media campaign. :o
Twinkle, TWM as Sideshow Bob???!! Perfect casting!
And Otto as the pilot, perfection as well.
Twinkle, I like what you said about the Protocal. But I would have felt more closure, if TWM actually said,"We all know what happened, the DI failed. Hense, my Spider Protocal". But, then I could refer back to what you said about TPTB not actually thinking of all the answers to the questions (X-Files shivers again).
Probably makes the most sense to do what DA suggested and just have the Simpson people spouting "Lost-isms" and associating with the Lost characters. Or make the marginal characters in Simpsons equate to Lost characters while keeping the core Simpson characters themselves. Then Selma and her sister could become "Jack and Sawyer"-ish and some new love interest of theirs could be Kate. Or maybe in some other instance, reversing the gender of the characters could work?
Scoutpost and Capcom: I didn't delete all my TLE Bookmarks! Just did a little housecleaning...important sites are still there! Yeah!
Love the Simpson/Lost casting! I vote Mr. Burns/Mittelwork. Great work guys!
Well, the virus seems the most important thing that came out of all the Valenzetti discussions. Changing the population figures seems to be core to changing a factor of the equation. At least Alvar and Rachel will be working together now (with our help), and we can get to Mittelwerk (maybe during the Season 3 break or next summer if he hasn't killed off 30% of the population yet!
Well guys time for me to head of into the sunset...
catch you later
Namaste
DA
I can't believe they dug up James Coburn to play Alvar. Not so much in the video, but the .org pic looks just like him. It was a great game most of the time and I hope, I hope, I hope that there will be a sequel! Too much fun! I just hate coming in here and not seeing a new update anymore. =o(
Question on the Mayan doomsday calendar: is that the one that's the big round calendar with the sunface sticking out its tongue? I guess if I check out that article, it might show it. Wonder who it's sticking its tongue out at? :-) Mankind? Chris Carter? Mittlewerk? The Aliens?
Yeah really, Maven. TWM has the virus, how do we keep him from using it until next summer...or seven weeks from now? Hmmmmm.
Dear TPTB- please give us something else to do or we'll start scripting an episode of the Simpsons LOST.
capcom: OT - I just went to a workshop this weekend that gave a brief overview of moderism versus postmodernism and it is definitely influencing my interpretation of TLE this week. The desire for final closure, for specific evidence in order to make conclusions, is more modern way of thinking about it. (And that's also what I'm more comfortable with.) The postmodern way of thinking is more comfortable with allowing ambiguity. It seemed obvious to me from the DJ Dan podcasts that we were meant to assume things as true even though there was hard evidence for them. So I've been trying to look at TLE from a more postmodern mindset and it's working better. IMHO some of the disconnects and frustrations with TLE have been caused by this modern/postmodern mindset difference.
shouldn't alvar be doing something about getting rid of the helgus antonius? noblelawyer, got any use for a slightly contaminated container ship? it's available for the low low price of 1,000,000 apollo bars.
You know, once we finish disecting the Simpsons, we can start on a Futurama/Lost ep. The one they did about Star Trek (the Apollo planet ep) was side-splitting.
"Welshy, nooooooooooooooooooooooo!"
"Say it in Russian!"
"OK, the wessel!"
sorry "even though there was not hard evidence" we were supposed to assume some things were true, i.e. that Mittlework's virus was designed to kill 30% of the population of the entire planet even though he was only using it on Sri Lankans at the time.
I agree with you twinkle: We were given many things over the course of TLE that we just had to accept as true even though we continued to dissect every little detail. I always said that we should "go with the flow" and accept some unbelieveable or unproven things. TPTB wanted the story to go a certain way which sometimes stretched the reality we know to the limit...so we were constantly pushed in that direction. Even something as simple as Rachel=Persephone was a major point of contention all summer, but it was just a simple story point. We just had to accept continuity errors (how can she be here, when she was just there?), scientific impossibilities, human errors, etc. Suspension of belief was vital to this ARG!
wow so much for this being over.....
Sweeeeeeeeet! YES YES YES
Back to some flash hacks!
Apparently TWM's IT team was able to tell him how perpsephone did her hack and he thought -- hey I can do a flash hack too!!
Hah I love it.
Oh yeah, Twinkle! Modernism and postmodernism, delicious stuff! Our pastor refers to that alot in his Monday night "university" class where we discuss current events vs. history. It really explains a lot about the collective mind of society.
Well I'll be wiating for it to pick up again in 7 weeks or so so dont delet this blog or anything.
maven: i think tptb kind of painted themselves into a corner. they wanted to tell a story, but that story was so interwoven with science and theory that the two were inseperable. then the problem is, science must stand up to exacting inspection. once we gout our magnifying glass on their story, the holes look mighty big.
Hehe, glad I did the clean up myself before checking the comments so I can pat myself on the back.
Well, hmmm, still disapointed with the ending (especially the all to obvious Rachel is Alvars daughter thing and the way Malek just comes to the rescue whenever needed). But I'm starting to like Mittlewerk a bit more as a bad guy. Seems he can hack websites well enough himself. I'm not convinced at how good the new Hanso Foundation is either.
Also still too many loose ends. I want to know if Mittlewerks blood change was because he *is* in his own genetic target group.
Anyway, I don't think this ARG is quite concluded just yet, even if it will be continued only in the form of a sequel. If it does get a sequel I hope they can convince Javi to stay on board.
Oxillini: Half the fun of the summer was poking holes in their story! Very big holes indeed! But, it was still a story they wanted to tell...they just underestimated our search for the truth and what this great community was capable of. They probably just didn't think it through as thoroughly as we did! However, I still say somethings just had to be accepted at face value so that we could rationalize the direction of the story.
LOL Joel, the first thing I thought too was, hey, TWM hacks just like Persephone!
Ox, I agree. For a non-scientist to write/create scientific fiction (not to be confused with scifi and scifantasy) one must be very careful to not go out of the bounds of the realm of verification. But, I decided to myself that Lost is scifi/scifantasy, so I'm trying to not hold TPTB to too much scrutiny concerning things like, how exactly does the VE work, etc. (covers eyes)
Not everyone can be like Arthur C. Clark and write a story that invents satellites and geosyn orbit. So, I cut them some slack, since it looks like *so far* TPTB are *trying* to stay within the realm of scifact within the fiction where possible.
By the way whatever happened to Joop? Is he dead? I love that stupid monkey!!!
Well, I'm off for a while...so glad we still get to "check in" here a while longer and continue great discussions! See ya all later!
'Morning Fenrisulven. What did you mean that TWM is his own genetic target group? Sorry if I'm dense.
Too true Maven, the poking of holes was one of the best parts of the ARG. :-) No offense of course to TPTB. They had no idea of the intellect that they were up against in their audience. :-) But in all fairness, they probably thought that they were merely writing the ARG as another TV script, more or less, and didn't realize how many people were going looking at the plot and science with such scrutiny, i.e., leading us to connect it to things such as tesseracts, e.g. Although, they do seem to throw out the little tidbits that lead us to those informatioin searches though. But we don't want Lost/ARG to be a Nat'l Geo channel documentary anyway, we want it to be intelligent but fun!
maven, i wasn't disagreeing with you re: accepting things at all. that is certainly what tptb wanted us to do at times. i was just pointing out that it seemed very inconsistent. at one point, we're supposed to look at things and try to find patterns and hidden meanings, other times, we're not supposed to look at the details at all. it's a tricky situation they were/are in! i don't envy them one bit!
Agreed Ox, about wanting us to notice patterns/meanings and then not wanting us too. *coughxfilescough* Which ones do you dwell on and which ones not to? Maybe we need a list for that too.... "pay close attetion here" vs. "take note and forget". I hope that Joop is not in the "forget" category in the ARG. I have a feeling that in the series there are a lot of "take note and forget" areas.
capcom said: What did you mean that TWM is his own genetic target group?
I think that is a very reasonable conclusion, Fenris. TVM had to innoculate himself and probably other members of his team who would die if exposed to the engineered virus because they were part of the 30% percent. Although that fudges on TVM's "exactly 30%" speech.
capcom continued: [TPTB] had no idea of the intellect that they were up against in their audience.
I agree. Seems to me that what we have here are postmoderns who care more about story, process, and philisophical questions than conclusions writing a story for a largely modern thinking audience who care more about details and science, with a few puzzles thrown in because "that's what you're supposed to do in an ARG."
Like ox said "tricky situation."
Good morning everyone... I'm here... just busy (it's taken me 45 mins to type this one comment) :/ I should be around more this afternoon. I actually like that they gave us a little more. Hopefully they'll read all the letters we wrote in to ABC asking for more closure. We don't know who Liddy Wales is and we still haven't seen the end of the Gary Troup video... unless it's still out there somewhere and we still haven't found it...
Good old Alvie... I hope we see more of him in the future... on the island, off the island... at LA hotspots... parties... somewhere... speaking of parties, I really like the confetti flyin' outta mittleworks nose...that was a nice effect... makes me wanna party like it's 1999...
Dark Angel: lol.. love your list... it's dead on on some of them.... looking forward to a simpsons lost episode... hopefully someone from TPTB at Fox is watching us...
Belly - Did you get your Apollo yet?
David/Admin - When do you need me for th egrand finale podcast? I work Wed. until 6 pm and will be free from 7 or so on...My microphone died while trying to record for DJ Lena, so you will have to call me via skype again if that is ok...if not let me know and I will come up with a microphone if I have splice a USB to a can...
All in all I am happy with the ending...if this were to be a short film it would have been pretty good. I think, hope, pray that we get our fix of TLE, ahem, I mean I need a sequel!! Where is that dang 7 step process for kicking TLE????
I'm still stuck on Simpsons. You guys are great...
Mittlework = Side Show Bob (Perfect!)
Otto = Pilot (Perfect!)
Oh, and why didn't I see it before, Ned Flanders makes the perfect Michael, with Ned and Ted sharing the role of Walt. Santa's Little Helper can still be Vincent. We don't have to be perfect. ;-)
Rachel Blake as BOTH of the snotty purple haired girls (one's Persephone) but they just walk through talking to eachother and nobody sees them.
What to do with Ralph Wiggum? How about making him Bernard? But then who is Rose? Lisa could be Rose. (??)
I think Jessica Lovejoy could be Shannon.
Who can Milhouse be?
Oh, I know, Moe can be Mr. Eko. he's good with a stick.
D'Oh, I mean Rod and Todd, what am I thinking??? I need lunch.
Simpsons flashbacks are just too scary to even contemplate.
Belly...u-2-funny!
Thrasher, yeah...My name is Capcom, and I'm a TLE-aholic. Or, rather, a Tee-Lekk-aholic.
Designer....one of the stuck-up purple girls as Rachel, oh yeah!
Completely off topic.
http://www.magicdonnie.com/themuppetmatrix.html
I think Oxillini first cast a purple haired twin as RB, I added on the other twin could be Persephone. ;-) Just giving credit where it's deserved, I think that's funny!

OK, I've deleted temporary internet files, cleared the history, refreshed the page, and I'm still seeing the old Hanso site, with the comment about the hacker.
Does anyone have a transcript of Alvar's letter?
And here all this time when people said "purple haired girls" I was thinking of Marge's twin sisters and not Bart's classmates!! LOL!
tdciago, make sure you put www.thf.org, that's what fixed my problem.
Hanso's letter:
To all:
The path of secrecy is a slippery slope. While necessity may dictate, at time, that we shade ourselves and our work from the all-too-often harsh light of inquiry, haitual secret-keeping can mire even the noblest of intentions in shadow. It is this shadow I fell prey to, blinded not only to the actions of colleagues like Dr. thomas Werner Mittelwerk, but also to the works of my own hand.
I fear the lessons learned have cost many their happiness. Some few have even lost their lives. My regret for this is endless. But, I assure you now, as I did then, that the work of The Hanso Foundation has always been intended to bring rebith to a dying land and a dying people.
Our methods must change. As of this moment, The Hanso Foundation enters a period of restructure and overhaul. Transparency and oversight will be our fuiding principles, excellence in communication and response to feedback our greatest strengths. To save humanity, we need first tap into just that -- our humanity.
Much time has passed - perhaps too muhc. Thanks to the tireless efforts of my daughter, Rachel Blake, and a worldwide movement set against the dark entity that was Thomas Mittelwerk's regime, I have been exonerated and freed from imprisonment. Thanks to the grace and foresight of the Global Welfare Consortium, we at The Hanso Foundation have been given a second chance to build a future that can support, enrich, and cradle us all in peace and joy.
It is to this I dedicate my life and my Foundation. My only hope is that you will join me.
Namaste,
Alvar Hanso
BTW, someone may have mentioned it, but the topic of ROT 's latest post could refer to a sequel ("wasn't a one hit wonder")
This is what Alvar's letter looks like... and after you click "humanity" at the end of the third paragraph, you are taken to a flash animation of Mittlewerk that looks like this, in which he says:
"You've Taken A battle, But thats all it was, A Battle. Humanity needs me, now more than ever. I have the virus I have the will and I will not fail."
Over and over again...
The animation is just what looks like him saying "you" forwards, then backwards, then over again...
Thanks very much, belly0fdesire, for the transcript. miniver_cheevy, I tried adding www, but still no go on the new page.
After reading Alvar's letter and his references to shade, dying, and rebirth, I'm sticking with my interpretation that:
Hanso = Hades
Rachel Blake / aka Melanie Walker = Melinoe, daughter of Persephone & Hades
Malik = Keeper of the Hellfire (in the Koran)
OK, I missed that, duh, twins, Rachel and Persephone, perfect :-)
Hey, Belly, do you have a few extra hours today? I could use some help?
Or capcom? You've been on a lot today. Is it a light day for you? If you do have extra time, please e-mail me at twinklestarmom at yahoo dot com. Thanks!
Roger that, Twinkle. Email on it's way.
twinkle: I'm busy almost everyday, but I've still been in-game everyday, so today's no different... i'll do whatever I can to help... I'll email you.
Thanks for the constant updates with TLE. I think we'll all be back sometime in the near future now that mittlewerk is threatening us all. Ciao
Twinkle- I sent you an email too. Let me know if I can help.
designer, thanks! the twins would have to be identical in every way except intelligence. guess which one is the smart one!
BellyOfDesire...thank you *so* much for typing that letter in here. I will add it to the message board as well...The font, spacing, and color on the THF site made is just about impossible to read for those of us with less than stellar eyesight...
It looks like it is very well articulated from first couple of sentences but then my eyes went cross-eyed...so am off to read the rest now.
here's an interesting question. who put mittelwerk's message in? did twm suddenly become an expert hacker?
Twinkle, did you get my email? Just checking in case I typed the address wrong.
I got it. You all are just terrific! I've written all of you back.
here's an interesting question. who put mittelwerk's message in? did twm suddenly become an expert hacker?
Good question Sean....perhaps one of his IT people made it out of the building with him....
And here's another...since when is Hanso Flash-savvy ;o?
hey ervery1 i just got home from skool. THERE HAS TO BE A SEQUEL! ther just has to be. or maybe its not over??? maybe abc hasnt told us EVERYthing. ?????
Hmmmm...he's holding Malek hostage with baby pictures that he's threatening to show to Rachel? They surrounded him with goons pointing Apollo Bars at him while he hacked the Hanso site and left TVM's message? Ooooh, I know! They put Joop up to it.
Hmm... I wonder what will happen with THF.org once season 3 starts? Will ALvar's letter stay up or will it revert to something different. I aslo wonder about some of the other sites like Gary Troup, Valenzetti, or even Oceanic815??
Hafta say that talking to you all via e-mail really tickles my funny bone. I mean I know you all are real but getting an e-mail from you is like confirming that this TLE isn't all in my head! LOL! Anybody want to keep my TLE e-mail address twinklestarmom at yahoo dot com, feel free. I'd love to hear from you during the next season of Lost. And if I get spam, I'll know where it came from. ABC
Oh and anybody who's talking on storiesofthelost and wants to talk to me offlist (or whatever) feel free to do that too.
My thoughts on the letter...
Am glad to know that Hanso got out of his house imprisonment okay... but I for one, would like to know more details about how the change took place in THF...i.e. what was it that led Alvar to realize that Mittlewerk was going too far and what events led to his house arrest?
Interesting how its all turned around so that now we are supposed to be *supporting* the Hanso Foundation...that will take a little bit of adjusting on my part ;o! I admit, I am still a bit skeptical on all this...am just not quite ready to throw in my support for THF until we are given answers to the above questions..what if this all turns out to be a big hoax, and Alvar is still in league with Mittlewerk?
a creeper mittelwerk is
*******TLE SPOILER*******
DJ DAN REVEALS HIS TRUE IDENTITY! He also opens the door to questions...
*****TLE SPOILER*******
Admin! How do you find these things!?
admin, whoah, nice reveal
so, will there be a cast list or something? that would be interesting.
Theory --
Check out all of the commrecials during the Lost premiere. I speculate there will be a clue -- a phone #, website URL -- something. After all, it isn't logical to let Mittlewerk run around at large for another 8 months, is it?
Not a spoiler, not fact, just my pure guess in the matter . . .
GFD613
Okay from the previous thread first:
Campcom - Don't worry I'm sticking around and you'll certainly see me in TLC. Although even cheating I will still be at least a day behind the US on the actual episodes. As for Holywoodland - Wow, that one really slipped me by. Looks right up my alley however. I will give you an opinion on the matter as soon as I form one! As for Black Dahlia I'm going to see it this friday. Hopefully the IMDB rating is misleading. As for the track. Lol. Yes it was a bit like performance art. Given most of the backing was recorded in in one take and not edited to smooth it out or take out the duff notes. The bass line is completely unrelated to the rest of the song (and a relic from a previous version I didn't really like as much), but I kept it in there because it kinda worked. Anyway I am going to tweak it now and there will be a more professional version up soonish. Heh, that wasn't even the track I have been working on it was just me deciding a Mittlewerk track would be a lot quicker to do then another DJ Dan one and I would be more likely to get it out before the ARG concludes.
Twinkle - The thing is we don't know whether that 30% actually had to die or whether they just needed to remove the key genetic code that they contained. So Mittlewerks blood change could have been an alternative to extermination. At least as far as the equation goes. It could be that it was just something that was overlooked by Valencetti (what happened to the finding Valencetti thing btw?), that someone like Mittlewerk could make the equation technically change but not actually prevent the end of the world because the actual element that will cause it has become invisibile to the equation. In other words he is cheating to cause the equation to give a meaningless answer. But naturally he doesn't believe *he* could cause the end of the world.
I don't trust Alvar though. I think his blood problem suggests he had the same kind of treatment which at the least puts him in the potentially "bad" group.
Also, LOL@Me for not actually clicking and just hovering my mouse and trying to figure out what was being said. I'm tired.
Twinkle...
(And Everyone Else!)
CHECK THIS OUT! Talk about a sweet souvenir!!!
gfd, i don't think they'd wait 8 months, i'm still hoping they give us more to do after first 6 episodes, since after that, the rest of the episodes won't come until January or somthing.
P.S. whoever has their profile picture at http://brunerd.com/pics/bagua.gif please take it off or find somewhere else better to host it, i had to walk away from my computer while it was loading the page, the second page i opened when i got up is still trying to load it
I agree, Fenris, we don't know. I'm only saying, based on the way DJ Dan was talking, that we should just assume the simplest explanations. After all DJ Dan didn't know much in the ARG but Javi did and he let it slip through in his intonations and the wordings he chose.
We'll see how much better TPTB get the second time around!
I think the time delay could be easily written into the story: he's rebuilding his lab, it takes longer because he has to work in secret, he doesn't have enough of hte virus to produce the effect he desires, etc.... But I hope they don't wait until next summer too.
Admin: If I won that my husband would seriously think I was daft! I want a stuffed DHARMA shark anyway, not a boat! ;-)
bah, it's joel's profile picture, at least now i'm logged in so i don't have to wait for login box anymore :P how do you ignore someone again?
i got it, you click on the word "said..." after the name of the person you want to ignore, there, no more waiting for non-existent pictures to load :P
DJ Dan is responding to questions really quickly on hansofoundation.livejournal.com. He talks about how frustrating it was to have the phones go out on Sunday. Matt the Pale just asked some great questions... awaiting answers. Thanks for the link Admin!
Has someone tried to phone the hanso foundation again? Maybe somethig's changed there too? Maybe there is a message from Alvar...
Let me know :)
i've been trying the hanso foundation number again for the past week, no change yet.
is that Rachel(Actress who played RB) in the photo of DJDAN
Javi answered my question! Be still my heart. :)
Apparently, he thinks I'm daft and don't realize that the numbers are on the show, but what can a girl do?
twinkle, you still here? I started The Other puzzle this weekend! Should be done today or tomorrow :)
bigdog - yeah, that's her
