Clue #111 - Fragment Code "theflashlight"

Fragment Code "theflashlight" is now working on hansoexposed.com. We first mentioned this code in Clue #109 when it was found in this Jeep ad written on the curb to the right of the vehicle. The video fragment is of Mittlewerk saying, "without allowing for any more suffering than is absolutely necessary. (sigh)"

Thanks to dazzedelf, Bryan, and ib4uc for emailing us this important update!

I'm a nanotechnology researcher..

Cool! I'm such a wanna be. But science isn't my field, just something I like to read and speculate about.

The article could start with general definitions of nanotechnology including fictional uses from other science fiction genres. I found a great defintion in the Encyclopeadia Galatica online.

Then I was thinking it would be nice to take each of the areas Hanso is working in (from their old site) and describe how nanotechnology could be playing a role. Only I don't know enough to do that for all the areas. Nor do I know if such speculation would be helpful on a *research* blog.

So those are my current ideas? Any feedback?

8/21/2006 02:40:00 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Because, hansolow, it takes the game out of it.

Once someone else has done the work and everyone knows he code, it becomes a race to see who can refresh the stats page the fastest and longest waiting for the fragment to be released.

If they released the fragment FIRST who ever finds the glyph first has the change to enter the code in first.

Pretty simple concept.

8/21/2006 02:42:00 PM
Blogger NobleLawyer said...

I agree with Bellyofdesire's last post. I think that putting out the code without simultaneously releasing the fragment makes having a leaderboard pointless. Why call it leaderboard. I should be luck of the draw board.

I'm butting in on the conversation I know but I was just thinking about how hard it is to design a game that Dwights, Micheal's, and Jim/Pam's all like to play. I'm much more involved than during Acts 1 and 2 because it's more accessible to me now.

Although...I'm not keeping up with the fragments in he.com. I figure I'll just watch someone else's sequence and enjoy the theorizing on this board. To me, right here is where the game is. :-D

Okay - Tysons Corner update

The PR person for the mall - knows nothing of this event. She reserched and realized it was part of the whole LOST thing and she's not sure what's going on. She's gonna research a bit more and see if she can find anything more. Told her if I heard something I would let her know too.

She afraid that someone's gonna be walking around the mall and get mobbed. I somehow doubt that would happen - but they are really touchy with sercurity sometimes.

Actually, Tysons is a very nice place, if you haven't been in a while. They have some really upscale eatries in the new wing - very posh. Place has come a long way from being a one floor open air mall in the 70's to an upscale shopping center.

Gang! I think there are many ways people are enjoying this game. But I can say this, because I have been here from day one, and I was through it all with you guys. This phase of the game is not as fun or captivating as WE wished it to be. The real world stuff is nice and TLEC and Speakers way of having a clue hunt was more indiciative to what we are used to in the other phases. But I think that getting a clue is great IF it leads to the code. But when the CODE is there and doesn't work, why go back and try it? That is the major beef here. A code is released but doesn't work? That speaks of poor design. All this and a quarter may get you a cup of coffee at Dunkin Donuts! IMHO!!!!! never forget that part!!!

kyle - no prob. I'm hoping to make the Tysons Corner one - depends on the time, and it seems no one knows. Pick the wrong time and there's and it's a rush hour nightmare. Trying to think of the ABC type links to Tysons and all I can come up with is the Disney Store. But then ABC owns ESPN so why the change? What else is at Tysons (really an odd location to have this)? There used to be a Warner Bros store - it closed years ago. Disney is still my only connection.

I just want to encourage everyone who is "faithful" to this blog to do their best to be understanding of other people. So far, I haven't seen anybody being reactionary and I've been really thankful for that. You guys are awesome!

We may have done some things in the past to make us annoy people and I'm trying really hard to learn about what we did "wrong" and learn how to "fit in" better in the online community.

I don't think he's Speaker because it would keep him too busy and he does have a job (or several) already. I think the amount of work for DJ Dan would be about right though IMHO.

TWM's big sigh meaning that he knows that there *will* be great suffering by the "subjects" after the genetic alterations, so let's not create any more agonizing affects then we absolutely have to, maybe? And give them comfy pillows on their long steamer-ship trip to the island too.

Also, I sort of fall in line with the theory that if you know your future, that you are doomed to make it happen. It would be funny for TPTB to end this whole thing with TWM actually starting a virus crisis and killing us all off. :-)

Belly, ange - you are obviously not geeks if you didn't immediately pick up on the star wars reference in hansolow's name.

Uh oh! I caught on right away but didn't think I was that bad. Time for some personal reflection. ;-)

BTW, Melissa and I took this test. Anyone else want to give it a try between glyphs. I think Melissa was a 24% and I was 27%. Inner Geek

Put me in the "I miss Rachel" camp. The video is interesting, but the game seemed more, I guess, personal, when we had her around.

I hope she comes back for the big finish. She does owe us some answers after all.

Belly: I stand in awe! :-D

Thanks too, Punchy Sue and boyfriend! :-D

Now we just need an updated quiz with Lost stuff and other new sci-fi thrown in.

Higher is geekier but the test is old and doesn't account for some forms of geekiness in my opinion. The question is how geeky do you want to be? Hmmm? Maybe we should send that to ask Javi?

Of course if we made up a newer quiz my score would be lower because I unloaded a lot of geek stuff at the garage sale this weekend: Star Wars pez dispensers, Dilbert plush desk top toys, and all my Riven-style, role-playing puzzle games. Can you imagine the geek score of the person that bought my stuff?

I'm not really less of a geek, just making room for more stuff. Right now I'm trying to hold myself back from buying all those neat Lost puzzles. Tapdawg and Melissa have really whetted my appetite to see more.

Betcha all feel better knowing that. ;-) I'll stop rambling now.

18%. It's gotta be the Food Network and History questions b/cuz I know nothing about computers. Though I bet my score has gone up because of this game...I even bought HTML for Dummies when Persephone started all those hacks and I didn't know what the heck people were talking about with all the "hidden text in the source code" lingo.

I got 35% or so.

They should include "Do you criticize the continuity of a movie or television show?"

Second question, "Do you voice these complaints to the creators of the movie/tv show?"

Third: "Do you post these on the internet with great detail?"

The geekiest thing I've done was Star Trek related. For a job interview to prove I could teach, I introduced people to some basic Klingon.

At our house passive participation is the only approved form of geekiness, no dressing up, no conventions, no blogging, no talking theories and spoilers. (Although we did dress our 1 year old son up in a little Next Generation captain's uniform but that was given to us.)

I'm breaking our rules by being here, but it's been worth it. And I'm living vicariously through all you wonderful geeks who do like tapdawg and really get out there! :-)

O.K.

I just took the test and can (proudly) say that so far tonight, I have the highest score.

Super Geek - 52.09701%

But I have to believe that there are others who should score much higher than I did, due to some of the clues that have been worked out that I could never have done. I failed miserably on all the scientific questions, but everything else was very high. The other exception is Star Trek. The only one I have every liked was The Next Generation. I'm sort of a geek snob I guess. Too good for Star Trek, although the documentary Trekkies is amazing.

And as for the geekiest thing that I have done for Lost, I wrote a "love" song that can only truly be deciphered by a Lost fan. I have thought about emailing it to Admin and seeing if he will play it on one of the podcasts and if not, I'll just put it up on MySpace.

BTW - if you read this entire novel of a post, you are also a geek (not to mention that if you are on these comments at all, you definitely qualify for geekdom in some capacity).

I sent you my copy to compare. Nothng looks different yet on Apollo but I didn't dig deeply. Or it could have been a preplanned event to advertise the candy giveaways and whatever Dr. Hackett is going to do at it.

The only reason I can think of that admin and I may have gotten one and you haven't yet is because we were listening to Comic Con and went to he.com right after Rachel said to. They might be sending out the e-mails in the order that people signed up. I highly doubt they'd leave anybody out because that'd just upset people. Either that or it's false.
